The OC Dance Studio c/o Rostislav (Owner) Dear Sir, I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration regarding an experience my husband and I had at your studio on September 18, 2024. We were excited to join your salsa dancing program, having visited your studio several times and prepared to start classes. However, what we encountered was both humiliating and unacceptable. Two months ago, we missed a class. My husband had already purchased classes in advance. Specifically, he has a receipt from February 2024 for class credits, as well as a monthly pass purchased in December 2022. During a previous visit to your studio, we were reassured that these purchases were still valid and could be used without issue. On September 18, we arrived early to clarify the validity of these passes with your staff, particularly Val, who requested that we send her the receipts via text. After reviewing them, she informed us that she would allow us a "2 for 1" deal for the evening, citing that the receipts were over six months old. We returned to the studio, prepared to pay the necessary fees. However, when we attempted to explain what had transpired two months prior, Val refused to listen, stating that as the manager, she was the only one who could authorize such matters. While we were simply trying to explain the confusion, she responded by scolding us in front of other customers, inside the studio using a raised voice to inform us that discussing anything related to COVID from four years ago was irrelevant. Her dismissive and aggressive tone was not only unprofessional but deeply embarrassing. She further threatened that if we were to pursue legal action, we would lose, as their policy allegedly states that receipts over six months old are not valid. We did not even raise the issue of legality. When we requested to see this policy in writing, she refused to show us and claimed it was printed on the receipts--yet, upon reviewing the receipts, we found no such statement. It is unacceptable to expect customers to rely solely on receipt fine print when employees should be trusted to provide accurate and clear information about company policies. Do you expect customers to read every line on their receipts, or do you hold your employees accountable for informing them of important policies? To add insult to injury, after we left the facility, we received a message stating that the receipts would now be honored. After the humiliation we endured, we do not feel comfortable returning to your studio. We were treated with unprofessionalism and disrespect, and we cannot help but wonder if our treatment was influenced by our skin color. We would appreciate for you to review your camera on this date and provide an explanation for Val's behavior and perhaps an apology, which was far from acceptable. In addition, please consider having your employees take training and classes on customer service. No one deserves the humiliation we encountered. read more

Such a fantastic dance studio... Everyone is so welcoming and friendly! I initially started taking group salsa and bachata classes on Monday and Wednesday nights. A variety of beginners, to intermediate, to a few experts, but this helps people who have never danced before feel so welcome even if they don't have any experience. Val was our amazing dance instructor for our wedding first dance. My fiance and I visited several studios before choosing to take private lessons with Val at OC Dance Studio for our wedding first dance. My fiance did not have any ballroom dance experience. I had some social dance experience. In the first dance lesson, we stepped on each other's toes and neither person will let the other one lead. It was quite comical to watch us dance. After assessing our skills and experience level, Val created a dance routine which we could learn without getting frustrated. In the beginning, it was difficult for us. We didn't know how to dance to the proper rhythm of our song. Val's teaching technique makes it fun and possible to learn, but the couple must practice after each lesson. We started with learning the basic steps, then we built on to the previous lessons. Our wedding was last Saturday, October 1, 2022. My husband and I danced beautifully for our first wedding dance. We had so much fun. Our guests loved our dance. It was a perfect evening for us! I normally looked forward to going to Wednesday night salsa. But tonight was very irritating when in our small group I was without a partner for almost twenty minutes. I understand not having enough partners, even though tonight was almost even, but almost any time I got a partner, they were used as an example then after the example we were told to switch till I again was partnerless yet again. i eventually went to the restroom to cool off and since I wasn't learning anyways and just left. I'm disappointed because I really look forward to coming to this class and learning as slow as it is coming to me. but tonight I felt I paid to do something that I could have done at home and left with a sour taste in my mouth, that Ieft me not really wanting to come back. if it hadn't been for the other few weeks I had gone there tonight would have made it a 1 star. read more

OC Dance Studio is my second home, and I wish it was my first. I take hip hop classes with Mitch twice a week, and you couldn't wish for a kinder instructor. Every class is totally different, with different combinations in different styles. But you never feel stupid because Mitch is such an amazing teacher, who breaks everything down into simple steps and then encourages freestyling anyway. There's always something for beginners to latch onto, and for experienced dancers to test themselves. In addition to this, Mitch talks about connecting to your own body and using dance to bridge mental hurdles, and he is just so dedicated to his art. I leave every class feeling like a new person. I also want to point out that Val, the studio manager, knows everyone's names and stories and is incredibly welcoming. She takes videos of each class that you can watch yourself improve over time (it really works!!!). And she is always happy to see you. The whole studio has such a warm, welcoming feel. It really is like having a family to take you in at the end of the day. I am 36 years old, and would never have anticipated taking up hip hop a few short years from 40. But it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The joy of dancing again in a judgment free zone is priceless - that said, classes are ridiculously cheap and at times that make them really easy to attend. And they're drop in, so if you can't make it one week, no big deal. I cannot recommend this studio highly enough!!! As an adolescent, I attended this dance studio for two years. I enjoyed the ballroom classes, I participated in various competitions, and multiple showcases. My experience was amazing and I loved my instructors. Both Val and Rosta helped me improve my skills as a dancer. They taught me meaningful lessons that I still carry with me to this day. After those 2 years I became ill and lost the ability to walk. Dancing and returning to the dance studio was what helped me get through my vigorous physical therapy sessions. Such a great dance studio! I have been dancing for years but wanted to try a hip hop class that is offered to adults and isn't the cheesy hip hop dance that seems childish. shortly after my first hip hop class here, I knew I came to the right place!!! The hip hop class was challenging and very fun! Not only did I get a great workout in but I also felt like I was actually grooving to a hip hop style dance not the jazzy hip hop style that is usually taught in beginning classes. I've never been to this place but heard great things so I decided to email them about the rental fees and stuff to teach a class. I called the next day cause i wanted to know quick and i wanted to change the time (fyi i havent paid in advance or comfirmed the booking) but found out they emailed me already so they said "why don't you check your email, cause i sent you the fees already" so I said okay and i'll call back if i have anymore questions. which i did!? I called and asked about how big the floor is by square feet.....guess how she answers me..... This place is awesome! My husband and I have two left feet (I guess that would make it 4 left feet) and we needed help for our wedding "first dance" as to not bore everyone or royally embarass ourselves in front of 180 of our closest friends and family. I called and spoke to Val, told her that I was getting married in a month, and if there was any hope to squeeze in some lessons before our big day. She was sweet on the phone and got us an appointment same day. Rosta was our instructor and god love him for his patience with us. He is definitely a talented dancer and even so, never made us feel uncomfortable with our less-than-graceful attempt at following his steps. He never got frustrated with our slow learning, either. let me tell you... watching us dance together would be like watching two elephants stomping around in a daisy field -- and even that comparison is an insult to elephants! We went in hoping to learn the basics of a wedding dance and ended up learning an entire first dance - We were able to learn an entire choreographed song in 4 dance lessons! I can't say we were the most graceful but rosta pretty much performed a miracle by prepareing us for our dance! I would HIGHLY recommend them to anyone who is considering dance lessons. In fact, I would like to come back and take up some other classes that they offer. This is a review for their hip hop class, formerly taught on Thursday evening. I was at a juncture in my weight loss journey and going to the gym just wasn't cutting it. I thought to myself, what better way to shed some pounds than to start a dance class, which is disguised exercise essentially. With a combination of eating healthier, a normal fitness routine, and this hip hop class, I was able to lose close to 30 lbs. I was excited to attend the class weekly. The instructor at the time (Miss Katie, yes, like her younger students, we too called her Miss) was fun and did her best to get in different mixes for us. Over time though, I had noticed that the routines were getting repetitive. It seemed that every time a new student would pop into the class, we would go over the most recent routine move by move for the entire hour. It became habit forming to the point where we were on the same routine for a good month (and you guessed it, those students that showed up once never returned again). To add salt to the wound, these newbies would practically learn the whole routine in one session whereas the vets have spent a few weeks on it. I don't know how they would address this issue as getting new students was inevitable, but the class wasn't moving at a pace to justify me paying $8 every week to come back. So overall, large studio, good instructors but the way the classes were paced didn't suit my needs- and hey, I'm just dancing for recreation! read more

I came to this studio to build more confidence and to try something new, and had a unique experience. The class was very diverse, with women of all backgrounds and ages ranging from mid-20's to mid 60's. It was fun working with women from different backgrounds. I took the ladies Burlesque class. It felt more like hip-hop than Burlesque, as I was looking for something more, risque. *wink wink* The other ladies in the class were friendly and sweet for the most part, and we even sometimes hung around the studio after class for a glass of champagne, wine, or shots. I would love to say that I had a great time, but there is only so much sarcasm that one person can stand. After hurting my back in a serious car accident, I was rallied with rude, sarcastic jabs from the instructor. I once was bending down to stretch my back and she actually asked me if I was "scratching my fleas"?!!! As a well-educated and well-bred woman, I will admit, I was shocked. I've never been treated with so much disdain in my entire life! I noticed that certain other members of the class were given compliments, attention, and encouragement much more than myself and others. I guess these were the "important" people who mattered? Between this, and endless instances of being dismissed when I was asking a question, having my personal fitness goals broadcast in a room full of people (which I had shared in confidence with the instructor), and just being treated like all-around crap, this studio is not the best. As if this is not bad enough, I feel that the recital details should have been clearly delineated up front. In the end, purchasing tickets on their first-come-first-served system had no effect on their ultimate seating chart. I was dismissively told that the best seats for the recital are reserved for those buying multiple tickets. The one saving grace was that when my husband and I were given the wrong meal at the recital dinner we were offered a month of free classes to compensate. However, given the maltreatment I withstood, I declined. In a nutshell, I will keep it moving (no pun intended) and find a dance class where I am treated with respect, and as if I matter, while also getting more of a true burlesque experience. read more

I don't know what the problem with Yelp is, I have left a review twice, yet both times, the review has disappeared. So let me try this again. This place is amazing! The owners and staff members truly care for the clients that walk through that door. I first came for the latin cardio with body pump, and I was extremely overweight and out of shape. It was very hard, but with Val's encouragement I came back for the next class, and then the next. Soon after, I was coming to every group class, since every little bit of motion helps when you're trying to get healthy. After a month or so they convinced me to perform in their showcase, so I started taking private lessons. It was not something I ever expected to want to do, but I love it! So far, I have participated in two showcases and I'm getting ready for my third. I have been coming here for about ten months, and have lost 33 pounds so far. With Val's help on diet changes to exercise, I am confident I will take off the rest of the weight that needs to go! I would, and do, recommend this place to everyone. I have seen some of the negative comments about rudeness and bruskness, and I think these comments come more from misunerstanding and perception. Also, some personalities just don't mesh. I can tell you from personal experience that the staff and owners at this studio care about every single client who walks in, and wants to see us all do our best. This place is great, especially if you want to learn salsa. Gonzo is a fantastic instructor and so are all of the others. They offer classes every day for various types of dances. Private lessons can even be squeezed in on the weekends--they really work with your schedule when needed. Compared to the competitors they offer more classes more often and host parties every few months for holidays. About once month they also take their students to a club for really cheap and it's a lot of fun. Came here for a trial class with a 4 year old. They have one big room devided by curtains. There's 2 classes going on at the same time so there's two speakers blasting different songs at the same time! I know I personally wouldn't be able to learn and enjoy that environment. I decided to try something different for my daughter's 10th birthday. Was tired of indoor trampoline parks that smell like stinky feet. Val helped me set up a hip-hop class/birthday party for my daughter and her friends. We got the whole studio to ourselves!!! I was able to bring my own food, drinks and party decorations. My daughter was to turn 7 yrs old when she first step foot in the studio. Mind you, she's never had any other dancing lessons or have showed confidence in dancing prior to her enrollment in the summer of 2013. By the end of the first 2 weeks I've noticed improvement in her self-confidence, as well as participation in the dance studio and in her academics. She look forward to dancing! It transformed her shy personality into a little sparkling gem with dancing shoes. Hence, she never stopped tapping away, whether she's home or we are strolling in public. We took Rosta's classes for our first dance for our wedding this summer. We both have crazy schedules but Rosta was always willing to accommodate us, be it dinner time or late night. DO NOT TAKE YOUR TODDLER TO THIS PLACE! I just took my 3 year old son to OC dance tonight for the free trial Thursday 4:30-5:30p ballet/hip hop class. There were 4 other little girls in the class who have been before, 2 of the girls happen to be my son's best friends from our neighborhood. He was so excited! He loves dancing and was talking about how he want to take dancing classes. The first half of the class was ballet and I think he did a great job, he was following directions and listening and after 30 min when they had a break he was smiling from ear to ear. But then after the break they started the hip hop portion and after a few minutes he came running back to where all the parents were sitting. We asked him if he wanted to continue to dance and he said yes and we told him then he needs to go back and follow instructions. He would run to the class try something and then run back. I told he couldn't do that and we would have to go if he didn't want to participate. He said no I want to dance I want to watch. So I let him slowly walk back to the area but he stopped and was hiding behind a pole, just peering from behind it and watching, sort of acting shy all of a sudden. We were watching him hide behind this pole. He was just standing there watching. At no point did I hear the teacher ask him to come over or encourage him to participate. I noticed he wasn't at the pole any more so I walked from behind the partition to check on him. When I came around the partition the teacher was gripping his shoulders and he was trying to get away from her. He had a very scared look on his face. I caught something about "do you want a sticker?" Or "you are not going to get a sticker" something about a sticker and then I clearly heard her in a very rude tone to her voice again gripping his shoulders after he shook her off the first time she grabbed him again say "you need to go to your parents or be here in class!" I think I caught her off guard when I said "come here son" she looks at me and all of a sudden puts a big fake grin on her face and says something about how she just was worried with him playing with the pole. Well he wasn't playing or swinging on the pole, he was hiding behind the pole and watching the class, probably afraid to participate because of something that happened earlier that I did not catch. My 3 year old son goes to preschool full time 3 days a week, he has been in My Gym since he was 9 months old, he takes music classes and has had 2 ski school lessons, never have I had such a horrible experience with a teacher/instructor. Boys are a different energy than girls and this was his very first dance class ever at a place he has never been to with a teacher he has never met. I felt that this dance teacher/instructor's conduct was completely inappropriate for a 3 year old. There was no understanding or compassion just complete annoyance from her from almost the very start. I heard some hesitation in her voice when she asked me son if he was taking the class, it even made me go to the receptionist and ask if it was okay that my son was here! Are boys not allowed in this dance class? She said boys were welcome and that they have a few boys who come to class. After I called for my son to come to me, the look on his face was complete terror and he burst into tears. He was not comfortable with her grabbing him and either was I! He was extremely upset that we had to leave and he couldn't dance with his two best friends. He was sobbing "I just want to dance!" It broke my heart. It was just absolutely horrible driving home listening to him sob for 30 minutes straight about how he wants to go to dance class, how mean the teacher was, why he couldn't go to class. As we left I told the woman at the front desk we would never be back and told her that the teacher was grabbing my son. Avoid this horrible instructor who clearly can't handle rambunctious toddlers who have a short attention span and doesn't have the soft touch or understanding to reign them in. It was actually traumatizing for my son. read more

The instructors were great, broke down the steps in a way beginners could understand, and didn't make you feel dumb. The studio is very welcoming and Val is such a sweet soul. BALLET TODDLER REVIEW...... HORRIBLE!!!!!... welcome was nothing but cold and unwanted.. waited 15 mins before someone came to us and asked if we were signing up our 3 year old.... (would help if they hired a receptionist) when the class first started the instructor already seemed like she was having a long and frustrating day- we saw no patience in her and to be frank, seemed extremely rude with the children. kids are kids and we all know dicipline needs to be enforced; however, the way she was conducting herself and communicating with others made my daughter and myself uncomfortable. This was her trial class; we didnt get off the first hour before we realized these people did not deserve our business. My daughter attended a different ballet studio a few miles further from us, this is the reason why we decided to bring her closer to home, but after the experience we received today, a few extra miles for better customer service and warmer instructors all of sudden seemed reasonable. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE no one likes to see their child being treated rudely...... I attended OC Dance for Salsa and Bachata group classes but the instructors unfortunately are very poor. They go over too many steps which they don't explain properly. They also don't teach the woman's steps so as a follower it's very difficult. They are good social dancers but not qualified to teach. I have attended several dance schools for Salsa and Bachata but they are further so I thought I try this close to me. Since I have attended different schools I was able to see the difference, compare quality, professionalism and communication. The price is fair but the the lessons are poor. When I tried to explain this to the owner Val, in a very nice way she got defensive, not rude just defensive so I just stop going. I do not recommend it, there are my more schools in the area that are professional and care about their students. My now husband and I desperately seeked a dance instructor a week before we had to leave for our wedding in a different state. That's when Val came to the rescue. Ever so sweet but can be stern when its necessary, she was so patient and taught us to learn a slow and fast routine in 4 lessons. We didnt make the lessons easy on her, because my then fiance and I took turns messing up on the steps learned...unplanned of course. At the end of each lesson, she would video tape us and would send it as she got home the same night. We practiced with this until our next lesson. The end result? we nailed the routine at the reception. An unforgettable moment for both of us and cant disregard the guests too, they loved it equally. My husband and I made a pact that we will return to see Val, not only to see our new friend but to take more lessons for future use.
