Lindsey was my midwife for my first pregnancy, and even though it ended in a transfer with a difficult caesarean, we knew immediately that we would ask her to be our midwife again once we were pregnant with our second. The care she gives is unlike any other. She is incredibly knowledgeable, intuitive, and nurturing, and she was instrumental in my emotional healing after my first. During my second pregnancy, I was fearful I would end up with a transfer once again, but at every appointment Lindsey was encouraging and helped me work through so many of my doubts and fears. She would send me photos from other clients getting their VBACs, and she reminded me over and over that I could do it. Almost two weeks late, I finally went into labor, and this time, it came fast. The moment she walked into the room, she held me, and I melted into her. Her warmth filled the room, and I instantly felt safe and surrounded by peace and love. Where do I start with the care and knowledge that Lindsey provided... I was pregnant in the first trimester before COVID-19. Then the dark scary outbreak happened. Lindsey continued to care in the best possible way. Checking in through FaceTime and text. Lindsey never abandoned me or any other clients. Was she overwhelmed, possibly but she continued to remain professional and giving the best care for us mamas in fear. As I reached my third trimester my body began to feel all the aches and pain. She quickly advised me to get chiropractor care and it helped sooo much. Lindsey also never steered me away from working out daily doing CrossFit. First, let me start by saying that when I chose to pursue more education on midwifery and birthing at home, I knew NO ONE in my immediate circle who'd even come close to entertaining the idea, or so I'd thought. I feel so honored to have been able to give birth at home with Lindsey and her team. When researching midwives and home births, no one was as responsive as Lindsey. I loved being able to take my toddler to all my appointments and she would have such an awesome time in the welcoming playroom while I could spend as much time as I wanted/needed with Lindsey (or sometimes my toddler wanted to sit in the appointments so she could find baby brother's heart beat which was also cool that she could be a part of it). When it came down to laboring, Lindsey gave me all the support I needed from the moment she and her team came through the door. Lindsay was magically brought into my life 11 weeks into my second pregnancy. I was looking for a more personal relationship with my midwife. I wanted the same midwife for every appointment. I wanted more attention. I delivered my first at home using a midwife through a birth center. I was fortunate that my delivering midwife was my favorite of the group but that was just lucky, as most birth centers have many midwives on staff and you get who you get when the time comes. When I got pregnant the second time I just automatically called the birth center and made an appointment. The midwife team that I had with my first was no longer working there and my experience was less than satisfactory. I called my doula from my first and asked her what to do. As the universe would have it she was actually working as a birth assistant for Lindsay. I called Lindsay immediately and made my first appointment. From the moment I set foot in the door to our first hug I knew she was the one. Her energy was infectious and uplifting And calming all at the same time. Lindsay listens to all my concerns, and addressed every single thing. Each appointment felt more like a hang with girlfriends rather than a check up. Lindsay is always on time. I never waited for more than a few minutes for my appointment. My water started to trickle at midnight on June 26, 2017. I texted her to let her know what was happening. She with with me every second I needed her. Lindsay taught me to listen to my body and trust myself. She also guided me when I was struggling. She made suggestions for different positions during the deepest hardest contractions. When I wasn't feeling one position she suggested another. She even had her assistant, a chiropractor, adjust me mid contraction, when my baby felt stuck. At 6:00am I birthed my baby with Lindsay and her team. When I became pregnant with baby number two, there was no doubt that Lindsey would deliver our baby. I've never felt more comfortable or at home with a care giver as I do with Lindsey. She respects her clients' intelligence to do the work of asking questions and being an involved member of the birth experience, and she respects her mamas enough to let them trust themselves and their bodies. Very grateful for and impressed by Lindsey. I was unable to get into my midwifery group for a checkup - after finding Lindsey through Yelp I reached out. She squeezed me into her schedule (over the weekend!), which meant a lot because I am not an existing patient. What can I possible say that hasn't already been shared? I remember the first time I saw Lindsey it was at a movie screening that she spoke at. I instantly knew that she was going to be my midwife at my next birth (and I wasn't even pregnant yet). After the traumatic hospital birth of my first daughter I became a birth doula. I had seen all sorts of births by the time we got pregnant with our second daughter and knew that a home birth was the route we would take. Surprisingly, my husband was pretty on board with the thought of a home birth and when I took him to meet Lindsey (even though my mind was already made, she was going to be our midwife) I was even more surprised at how excited he had become over home birth and our amazing midwife. Every visit with Lindsey was like a visit with a close friend. I knew she was a busy woman but I never felt like our time with her was any less important to her than it was to us. She remembered details about our life, relationship, and past that made me feel loved and truly cared for; like I wasn't just another number on a chart, my pregnancy and I actually mattered. I will never forget when the first anniversary of my father's unexpected death had arrived and I tried my hardest to shut the world out for a day and wallow in my own misery, my phone beeped a text message for Lindsey. It was as if she had this telepathy knowing how heavy and hurt my heart felt. She had said "I want you to feel your father with you and baby today and the love he has for you". This is when I realized exactly how different the midwifery model of care is compared to the medical model of "care". Lindsey is the first one to say that her clients become her family but let me tell you that there is nothing but truth behind this statement. It is because of her true and unadulterated love for women, babies, and families and her belief in birth that makes her an amazing midwife. Unlike many other providers, the relationship developed during the most intimate and vulnerable time of a family's life with Lindsey does not end after the 6 week postpartum visit. The relationship established is one that will remain for a lifetime. Ask any of Lindsey's clients and I'm sure they will all refer to Lindsey as a dear friend, not just their midwife. After 3 hospital births, I finally found the courage for a home birth! It was not done without the help, love, encouragement and strength from Lindsey. She talked me off every ledge of doubt that crossed my mind, made me feel like I was part of her family and never rushed me out the door. The day of my birth was quiet, full of excitement but peaceful due to her calm energy. It's hard to even put into words how much I appreciate, admire, respect and adore Lindsey Meehleis. Unlike most women who seek out a midwife, I never expected to have a home birth. However, when 2020 hit and hospitals weren't allowing husbands into appointments I finally looked into the possibility of having a home birth as my friend had recommended I do for nearly 7 years. She had birthed all her children at home and I thought she was nuts. After looking into it more I realized that everything I've ever known about birth had been highly distorted. I'm so thankful that 2020 caused me to look into home birth and now I can't imagine ever birthing in a hospital. Having Lindsey as my midwife was so empowering, educational, and the best experience of my life.
