OC Placenta Encapsulation and Courtney are absolutely amazing! She was highly responsive through IG, text messages, phone calls, etc. She didn't require a deposit or retainer fee to be available, which was a bit worrisome. Prior to delivery she asked to keep the placenta in ice and to place it in a styrofoam cooler. We notified her that we were going to be induced such date and she said to text her when placenta was delivered. Our doula text her at 10:02 pm that placenta was delivered. Courtney arrived at 10:28pm to pick up our placenta! The hospital wanted the placenta to be picked up within 2 hours. Talk about responsiveness!! She had our placenta encapsulated the next day and delivered it to us at the hospital at 3pm! We obtained a picture of our placenta, dried cord, capsules, and we are waiting for our tincture which takes 6 weeks. Overall, we have had a wonderful experience with OC Placenta Encapsulation. This review is long over due as I had my daughter in August 2016. But I knew I wanted to leave a wonderful review for Courtney. After some research, I decided I wanted to encapsulate my placenta. I turned to trusty Yelp to find someone local. I found Courtney, reached out to her, and she responded back immediately. The process is simple: 1) Make sure your OB/nurses knows that you'd like to keep your placenta. I needed to sign a release form at Hoag 2) Text Courtney after the baby is born 3) Hospital releases the placenta 24 hours later, Courtney picked it up right from the hospital. 4) A few days later, while I was still in the hospital, Courtney brought over the capsules with directions I was so happy with how responsive Courtney was and how quickly everything was handled! read more

If I could offer *any* advice to a soon to be Mama -- it would be to hire a Doula! Wether or not you have a homebirth or a hospital birth, a doula is a steward that will be with you through the journey of your baby's delivery. I did my research up front and knew that in addition to my amazing midwife, I wanted a doula to be there to support me and my husband. I didn't need to look very far however - because OC Midwifery (see my other reviews) is partnered with OC Doulas. I hired Courtney Ellis immediately after meeting with her. Her contract was simple and straight forward and I knew that wherever my impending birth was to occur, her support would follow wherever I needed to be. Her pricing is very reasonable and some insurance companies might even reimburse you for these services! During my labor and birth, Courtney was at my side. She provided me the space I needed - and the support that I so very much wanted. Having taken a Hypnobabies course, I was prepared as I could be going into the birth of my first child. However when practice goes into real life birthing - you NEED someone to help guide you back on path when you're venturing into uncharted territory. Courtney provided massage to my neck and back, cooling cloths for my forehead, nourshiment and fluids for my (and my husband's) journey, as well as copious support to the midwife team. During the delivery, Courtney captured photos and videos of my daughter's birth that I will forever cherish. She aided me in my noviceness to breastfeeding - immediately helping my daughter & I forge this special connection just minutes after birth. As I basked in the glow of my new daughter - Courtney prepared to take home my placental for encapsulation. She even made a print of the placenta for me (see photo) that i will forever cherish. It reminds me of a dandelion! The 2nd bit of advice I'd offer to any new natural mama is to have your placenta dehydrated and encapsulated. You won't regret how great this thousand year old practice makes you feel, not to mention the littany of positives you derive (increased breast milk, hormone balancing, no PPD, you can even save the extras for when you enter menopause!) I received my dehydrated placenta less than 2 days later - with a keepsake bag containing my daughters precious umbelical cord wrapped and dried into a heart for her baby book. If my family is blessed with a second child - Courtney will be on the list of my first calls! OC Doulas and OC Midwifery feel like family - and that kind of bond is exactly what I want with my birthing team. read more

I recently had my second baby and decided to have my placenta encapsulated. It was the best decision I could have made. This experience has been very different from my first child.
