I actually adore stopping by OC Succulents every now and then (lately more often than not...). Not sure what it says about me as a woman in her 20's when I admit to loving spending time at a succulent/plant nursery... but I'm not ashamed! The employees here are all super helpful if you have no idea what you're doing - aka me every time. Sometimes they all seem super busy but if you stop someone and ask, they'll either happily take a break to answer your question/help you out or find someone who can. There is a good selection of pots and accessories for all of your plants as well as the plants/succulents themselves! I often come by and purchase a few 2-inch succulents or air plants to fill space in my apartment or to fill a new pot I found. They are always offered at a great price! Much cheaper to buy them here than to pay for an expensive arrangement elsewhere. Plus, one of my favorite things about OC Succulents is that they have a complementary potting station! So once you find the perfect pot and succulent, you can purchase them and take them over to the potting station. I have always learned to start with a pot that has a draining hole and a layer of rocks so the water can run through without too much soil loss. Then pack in your succulents however you so desire. Whenever people make arrangements for me, they seem to pack in the soil a lot more than I tend to... so maybe I need to not be so delicate next time... I like to then top everything with some moss. This keeps the soil in place and also just looks very nice! I recently added a new addition to my room with a hanging succulent arrangement and I cannot wait to watch it continue to grow! Maybe one day I will venture into the land of real plants (I have had a particular interest in a pothos plant or something of that sort...), but until then I will stick to my affinity to succulents (and my rare ability to keep them alive...). Be sure to look around outside as well! If you can't find exactly what you're looking for, I highly recommend asking for some help because all of these employees know exactly which plants have had good or bad seasons/years and if they have any extras in the back. read more

This great place offers a beautiful and huge selection of plants, attractively-arranged. I love the large succulent "flowers"! Being my first visit, it took a while making my way through all they had to offer, both inside and outside. Staff members were busy working, placing new plants out for display, cleaning, and assisting other customers -- busy place! Recently, I had my 1st negative experience at a nursery in Laguna Beach (how's that even possible, when surrounded by such beauty?), making me aware of how much I appreciated the attentive, professional, and friendly cashier here. LOVE THIS PLACE!!!! I have been coming here forever but truly didn't know how good I had it till I was looking for a nursery closer to where I live...after visiting about 4 diff ones I came to the realization that NONE compare to the service, availability, options, prices, cleanliness and ease of this place! I am a plant momma and all my plants indoor and outdoor always thrive after taking home from here. The staff is always very attentive and so very knowledgeable, I also appreciate that if they do not know the answer they will find someone to answer my questions correctly and always in a friendly manner since I'm sure some of my questions are pretty basic to a well seasoned gardener :) I will never go anywhere else! I found exactly what I was looking for...mini succulent gardens with at least 3 varieties per planter. I also needed decorative planters for the succulent gardens. Came here for free OC Succulent day. There wasn't any sign stating only one free succulent per person or price signs. (Everywhere else had obvious price signs) I saw many people walking towards the exit with more than one succulent in their hand. Also while walking to OC Succulents, I saw people with more than one, too. Turns out, only at the door someone will stop you and tell you only one is free, so that you'll want to buy everything you have. Underhanded practices like this I can barely ignore, but what I seriously pissed me off is someone demanding if I paid them and treating me like I *intended* to steal them. She could've politely informed me that only one was free and I would have to pay for the rest. I would've been completely okay with that, albeit sad. I also saw that lady angrily yell at the employee at the door, "I was only gone for five minutes and I already caught five people [that walked out unpaid with more than one succulent per person]!" I'm sure those four other people didn't intend to steal either... After going back to pay, I told one of the staff while walking out that they should really put up signs (if they don't want anyone accidentally stealing) and he even agreed! They had all day to put up signs or have someone shout that only one is free, but they chose not to. (I was there for over a hour and left at 4) Here I was planning to gift some to my friends who couldn't make it and come back and buy some if these succulents turned out well, but no way after being treated like a thief for an honest mistake on a day they give out succulents for free. Not to mention, they're the ones trying to deceive people. I had high hopes for this place, seeing the reviews and FB comments, as well as the quality and variety of succulents. I'm just downright severely disappointed at the ethics and attitude here. (I saw some girls heading towards the exit receive the same rude treatment by that lady. Unlike me, they didn't even reach the "check point" yet!) @Chris, thank you for replying. I think you misunderstood my main disappointment, and the reason I bothered to leave a review, which was NOT about the 1 succulent limitation but the *attitude* and *rudeness* of one of the staff that I and few others have experienced. As mentioned in original review, if she had just politely explained about the limitation, instead of talking to me like I intended to steal, I wouldn't have been so upset to write a review. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!! Since moving to Irvine, visited the place multiple times and made several purchases. A few weeks ago I purchased a $80 Dracena plant. Since bringing the plant home it started showing signs of distress and I started noticing bands of dried bits through the leaves. Being a novice I started fussing over watering the plant right and was even checking the soil moisture very day without realizing a possible pest infestation. Finally brought the plant back to the store today for an evaluation and was flat out told there was an infestation of mites that was picked up in its new environment and absolutely no further assistance provided. I find it very hard to believe that a plant which was housed in isolation could be infected with mites in a few short weeks. The only logical explanation is it was infected when I purchased it. This is unacceptable for the price tag. They lost a very good customer. read more

He even took the time to teach my friend and I how to care for these. There is a wide selection of not only succulents, but also other plants, vases, and decorations. Love this place! I came here yesterday for the first time to create my own potted succulents and ended up purchasing two. From the moment I walked in, Chris asked if I needed help, he was so nice and helpful. I picked out a white wooden pot for my outdoor succulents and a silver glam looking pot for indoor decoration. This place has so many different types of succulents and other plants. If you come here on a weekend and when they're not busy, they can put the it together for you with no extra charge. Chris did a beautiful job putting my succulents together (see picture). I spent around $70 for the two potted succulents. I'll definitely come back here again and highly recommend this place! read more

I found OC Succulents because all the nearby garden places had failed to diagnose or sell me effective treatments for my cactus which had becomes COVERED in (what turned out to be) scale. I'd been fighting a losing battle for over a year. This time I took my pictures into OC Succulents and I was given a diagnosis and treatment plan in less than 2 minutes! It's been only 3 days but when I checked the plant over this morning the scale was on the run. I can almost blow it off. This is a very large beaver tail or prickly pear cactus. I've called all other nurseries and none of them knew how or were willing to help me put together an arrangement in a bubble vase I had. Just left this place. Unfortunately, they have very basic succulents variety that you can find in Home Depot for much less. Their prices in some cases were even more than Rogers garden! I saw the same ficus for $200 less in Armstrong and in Rogers. Exact height as well and the same size 5 gallon plant. The cashier was rude and didn't even get off her phone during the entire transaction; I had to ask her if we were done so I can leave. Kinda regret even buying some plants but wanted to at least make it worth my time traveled there. I believe most of the reviews in this Yelp are probably internal! The only pro I would say is being around large volume of plants that I enjoy walking around; otherwise there is zero saving and certainly paying more in this place! Never going back and could not with good conscious recommend this nursery. read more

I was so happy when i found this place today. First time going there. Bought a bunch of plants and 2 driftwoods. I thought i got a good deal from my purchases. I guess not...cos At first i thought 6" is $9.95 and 4" is $3.95 from the signs they have but turns out when i paid at the cashier prices vary depending on the type of sansevieria i picked up. So i guess the sign is only for succulents. I didnt know this until after i paid because they dont have price tags on the plants and price tags at the tables where i got the plants. No label whatsoever. But when i was talking to the guy who works there and inquiring about the plants and which one is a better deal (6" or 4" pots) He said the big pots cos theres lots of babies so i was like yeah cos its only $10. And he didnt even say a thing. Maybe he is not familiar with the prices too cos it turns out prices vary depending on the plant. Anyways what really ticked me off is when i reviewed my receipt at home and found out they double charged me for the driftwoods. I made a quick scan of the receipt at the store and didnt notice at first. Its late when we got back home and thats when i reviewed my receipt and found out the cashier charged me $100 instead of $50 for 2 driftwoods. They are closed already i can't call them anymore and turns out they are closed tomorrow too( Sunday). So i guess i have to wait til monday so i can call them. in the meantime i emailed them already and im waiting to hear from them. I hope they will message me soon cos their giving me a headache thinking about the double charge. No wonder i paid a lot. i pray that they dont do this often. Im not from irvine and its a long drive to get there. Imagine the hassle for me. OMG. Not so happy with my experience today because of their cashier. The guy who helped me with my sansevieria IDs is nice as he took time to tell me the names of each one im getting. The other sales rep. (Or store owner maybe im not sure) helped me with the driftwood when i inquired about the price cos theres no price tag. She priced both the driftwoods for $50 and she was supposed to ring me up at the cashier but the other guy said he already have my plants so i went with him instead. But apparently he is not the cashier. Its another woman who rang me up. Maybe a newbie? Im not sure.So anyways, the cashier double charged me for my driftwoods. Instead of 2 for $50 which i clarified with her while she was ringing me up. She charged me $50 Each. I dont know if she understood the pricing cos its both for $50 and not 2 for $50 each...apparantly not ‍. I dont know how she came up with the price Cos the sticker on one of the driftwood is $35 and the other one doesnt have a price tag. When i asked the other sales rep. She said i can have both driftwoods for $50. So ‍. The charge in the receipt says 2 for $49.95 each making the total of my driftwoods $99.90.... i should have just went with the other woman who priced the driftwoods cos she knows better. If only...Oh well... What if i didnt even check the receipt at all. I would not have found out. I even clarified with her (cashier) but she still made a mistake...Oh my... So bummed hence the 1 star rating. I pray that they will fix this soon. also i think its best for everyone if they would put price tags and labels on all their products for transparency on pricing and so that customers know what plant they are buying. Also i believe it will help their cashier makes less/ no mistakes at all. Edit: i called early morning today and got a refund on the driftwood. All good now read more

I heard about OC Succuulents when they had their free succulent day (Irvine PD wasn't happy with the last event so for now the free event is on hiatus from what the staff informed me) and braved the crazy crowd to get a free succulent. Had no idea this place existed and was pleased to see it was close by where I work. They have such a large variety of succulents, as well as other plants and they come in all sizes. Staff was friendly and helpful when I told them I was thinking about doing centerpieces for a work event. Will definitely come back to make my succulent piece since they they have a set-up area with different colored moss and pebbles for you to decorate your piece complimentary of course you have to buy their succulents. read more
