The first is they will prioritize the visit schedule and will not make you wait if you pet is on death's door. Some of the other reasons include a thorough and complete exam with options for treatment and concerns discussed along the way. We had an incident with our 10 year old cat and his chronic asthma who was turning blue and couldn't breathe. We called several local vets including one that was new to our area with no luck scheduling an appointment despite the graveness of the situation. Excuses ranged from "you haven't been here in 2 years to no appointments until late next week." Choices beyond Little Egg Harbor are few and far between. As a last resort, we searched google for Animal ER/hospitals and discovered Jersey Shore Veterinary and made the call. After listening to us the response was "bring him right over now". The cat does not travel well so going to Barnegat was a challenge but thankfully a little O2, steroid shot and some loving kindness from the doctor literally saved his life. I see some had bad experiences, passed judgement on staff's outward signs of immaturity, doctor's dismissing input from owners but that was as far from our experience as possible. Going forward, we used the vet several more times and never waited for an appointment more than 24 hours for routine care or an hour or less for urgent/emergency care. The best part they are interested in your animals health and not "upselling" unnecessary procedures and studies. As with most pet owners, the health of one's companion is priority #1 and this office shares that feeling with every pet that comes through their door.

She calmly said, unfortunately he left already!! My cat was so bad he came out from under the bed once but immediately ran back upstairs under the bed and had stayed there all day! I was furious! I was yelling! She was so condescending and just acted like a victim because I was yelling while never apologizing! I asked for the manager. I was put on hold for 10 minutes and she came back saying the manager left and the owner could call me the next day. I said obviously they don't give a **** about us and we will go elsewhere! I got wonderful help and care at Berkley Vet Center who were compassionate and caring. They didn't have an appointment available but referred me to Garden State Animal Hospital in Toms River. My boy Lou got excellent care and the treatment he needed, and he is doing great today with proper medication! In the future my new vet will be Berkley Vet Center. BTW, I had gone to Barnegat Animal for the last 20 years or so and had never been treated so poorly! Never again!

When I went out to ask what was going on the lady at the front desk was extremely rude telling me I was over an hour late for my appointment (not true). I tried showing her my appointment confirmation time but she didn't even want to see it. I have had pets my entire life, have been to many vets, and have never been treated with such nonchalant attitudes.

The visit involved our family's young puppy, who had a single fractured tooth. I was present, responsible for the puppy's care, and fully engaged in the appointment. The clinic recommended a full dental cleaning, X-rays, and up to three possible extractions--a plan that felt excessive, especially for a puppy. I sought second and third opinions from other licensed veterinarians. All of them agreed the original recommendation was unnecessary. The issue was resolved with one simple extraction--no full cleaning, no X-rays, no multiple extractions--at half the cost and with far less stress to our pet. This was never about money--it was about care. I chose not to proceed because the clinic's plan didn't align with standard veterinary practice. In addition to the aggressive treatment plan, I was disturbed by how I was treated when I asked questions. When I requested a clear explanation and an estimate, the practice manager (who is also the co-owner and the veterinarian's spouse) became visibly irritated and abruptly walked out of the room without answering or providing a quote. That level of unprofessionalism was shocking and disrespectful. What followed was even more concerning: an emotionally charged, unprofessional phone call from the veterinarian, in which he raised his voice and defended his staff rather than addressing my concerns with objectivity or care. I also question the clinic's ethics. They later referenced what they claimed was surveillance footage and quoted my child (inaccurately) from inside the exam room--raising serious privacy concerns. And while the practice manager is described as a "scientist," I could find no public licensure or credentials listed. If such titles are being used, transparency is essential. As a professional and an attentive pet owner, I expect respectful, informed, and compassionate care. That is not what I experienced here. Veterinary care should be rooted in medical necessity, empathy, and ethical conduct--not personal defensiveness or intimidation. Our pets deserve better. And so do the people who advocate for them.

She will use generics where possible, as opposed to most vets who will cash in on selling brand names. She will, at times, sell you things for her cost or VERY close to it.
