Definitely get there early for free and close parking. Great area to play with other dogs and shallow for dogs to swim. Highly recommend this beach!

What. A. Treat! Took my doodle, Kai, for her first ever visit to the ocean! She ran and ran on this unleashed dog beach for an hour the first morning and many more the next 3 days! Met all kinds of dogs with their hoomans and had the friendliest and funnest interactions. Everyone was chill and easygoing regarding their dogs. We all cleaned up messes quickly and trash cans easily accessible. Everyone hoomans wise either playing with, walking alongside. Chasing, or talking with other hoomans . This is truly dog heaven!! So glad we stayed the closest you can to this beach as it was a 3 minute walk from our hotel room! Highly recommend this if you have a dog and Kai gives this a 2 full paw rating(5 star in hooman view) !!

I brought my 11-month-old Pitbull puppy here and he had such a great time! So many fur babies running around, unleashed in their own paradise. I kept my pup leashed as it was his 1st time. Everyone there was super friendly and understanding. I loved seeing responsible dog owners throughout. The beach is clean and has free parking. I recommend getting there early to make sure you find a parking spot without hassle. I will definitely bring my dog here again as we had a beautiful day.

You need some dopamine? Your dog needs some dopamine? Look no further, this is your go to spot! Dogs, dogs, dogs, everywhere, hence the ocean beach dog beach name. This was our first time here and we weren't sure what to expect but what an awesome beach where dogs can be off leash and go crazy. This is basically like a playground for dogs to have fun, socialize with other dogs, and get some water time in. It was super cool to see people come together and let the fur babies play.

What a nice and clean dog beach! The sand was so soft and there was a lot of space for your fur baby to run around and mingle. My family had a great time just wading in the water and watching all the dogs play including ours. Will definitely be back here when we are back in town.

Dear beautifulbig Husky dog, my dog is smitten. Barky: "Thanks for the kiss!" When people and pets get along with each other, it makes me smile.:) My little rescue pet pal is scared of other dogs, he's had a tough life! But the veteran beach dogs here gave him a warm welcome and even a big hug! I left a few peace signs in the sand in your honor. I hope we can all learn to be as welcoming to others as the big beautiful beach dogs here. Five stars.******

LOVE that no leash is required and can play in the ocean with your furry friend Dogs here were well mannered and the dog parents were attentive on our visits. Parking is free (but you may need to walk just a little.

Great spot to bring a dog! Very walkable to local food spots. More of a walking beach, would not recommend setting up a blanket since there are a lot of people and dogs running around

I love dogs!!!‍ My client, and I had a nice time petting all kinds of dogs. There was the pug whose name was potato and she definitely looked like a round potato. They have doggy bags, but you should bring your own Water and the surf is up!‍ Six o'clock p m.

Our dog loved the atmosphere, easy surf with tiny waves, all the other dogs and sunshine. Perfect spot for an outing with your baby.

My four fur babies had such a blast! The beach is absolutely clean, everyone is so sweet and kind.

A dog's paradise! There's a large parking lot available and a considerable amount of space edged by the ocean and channel for your pups to play. After visiting Ocean Beach with my sister and her dog, we made sure he got some time to play in his favorite place in the San Diego area. My gf and sister took him way out across the expanse. So far, in fact, that I lost sight of them! I was wearing socks and shoes and didn't want to remove them. Nevertheless, I enjoyed myself immensely sitting on a bench dog-watching. So fun to see the different types of dogs and behaviors. This is a popular spot, and little Jasper made a friend along the way.

My 16 year old dog loves coming here with me! One of the best dog beaches in California

Ask the Community - Ocean Beach Dog Beach

    Are there restrooms?

Yes. There are regular public restrooms nearby with outside showers as well.

    Are there dog-friendly restaurants nearby?

Some restaurants with outdoor seating. But not sure what do you nearby, because I don't think they are walking distance, you probably need to drive.

Looking at having a dog beach day, mid August, are there any CV-19 changes, ie Parking lots still closed? Masks? No laying out? All still enforced? Any info is helpful.

Parking lot is open, mask on, sunbathing ok just keep 6 ft with others

Is this beach open since COVID?

It is fully open. Some people wear masks, most don't. Super awesome fun always!

Is this beach currently open now that CV-19 restrictions are lifting?

Yes! But parking lots are closed- so get there early to find street parking!

Has this dog beach opened back up yet?

It opened at the end of April. However the parking lot was not open and they had restrictions like no laying out, ect. Keep moving rules.

Does anyone know if it's open right now?

    It is!! (:

Is Dog Beach currently open? I'm concerned about fully open access to the parking lot - street?…

The dog beach is OPEN! People are very respectful of maintaining distance. You still have to keep walking or running so no laying in the sun while the dogs play... Parking lot is closed but usually you can find street side parking within two blocks…

Is this beach off leash 24/7?

    Yes

Am looking at going to Ocean Beach with my pups on the Thursday, Friday and Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend (not Sun & Mon). I've never been over a Holiday. Too busy? Too many dogs and too little parking to make the out of town trip worthwhile? Thx!

Hi Julie! My wife and I and our two dogs just returned from OB where we spent Easter break week. Happy to tell you that, just like last year, if you go during the week there is plenty of parking in the middle of the day.…

What time does it open? Can I take my dog at 4am?

The parking lot closes during the night and opens again in the early morning but if you park elsewhere you can go to the dog beach at anytime as far as I know, at least I did.. The earliest I was there was 5 a.m.

Has anyone had a problem with fleas or ticks after visiting the beach?

We haven't had any problem...bring flea / tick spray if you feel so inclined, though.

What's the best time of year to visit Ocean Beach/Dog Beach. Will there still be plenty of dogs (and it is warm enough to wear shorts) in November?

You can visit Ocean Beach Dog Beach year round, there will always be a at least 10 dogs. Historical Ocean Beach temperatures for November are: Minimum 42°F…

    Are there public bathrooms nearby?

Yes there are restrooms/showers at the end of the parking lot. It isn't super close, but like a 2 minute walk.

And on the outside there are other openly wide u gated grass areas. 1) there are (open using) homeless around so I don't know how I feel about my dog here as there may be drugs on the ground. What I do like: - the dog park has some grass - mostly clean (of course some leave their mess) - limited seats - parking What I don't like: - landscape is weird, uneven and hard for dogs to play without sometimes stumbling - kind of close to very busy streets, in the event a dog escapes the areas or from owners, it can be very dangerous for them - homeless with their unleashed dogs roaming the areas (sometimes)

In the fenced dog park, we've had the good fortune of nearly always coming across other friendly dogs & dog guardians (with only one exception that happened a few years ago) so I feel like that's been pretty great for us socially. The terrain at Fiesta island is slightly rocky, hard packed sand and looser sand closer to the shoreline. I usually wear flip flops if I'm going to play with Cali in the water, but sneakers or trail shoes can also be practical here to avoid stubbed toes on the steeper inclines. We can easily get close to 10,000 steps just walking around the perimeter of the dog area. The walking path for all of Fiesta Island is 4.2 miles! In the springtime, the dog park has experienced wildflower superblooms which are magnificent to witness. There are a few benches under the copse of trees, but otherwise, if you want to sit, it'll be on sand or a chair or blanket you brought. Make sure you bring plenty of drinking water! It can get very hot, and there's no public potable water in the park. Recreationally, I have also had the pleasure of riding a horse at Fiesta as well. So much fun! Fiesta does mean party after all, right? I've seen all sorts of other recreational things happening at Fiesta outside of the dog park area, too... kayaking, jet skiing, swimming, grilling, chilling, and enjoying the water. Of course, there are designated fire pits! I've also seen a little 4x4 action on the sand, boating, kiteboarding, and model airplane flying... Fiesta really does have something for everyone. Notes: It can get very busy and crowded in the summer though so I avoid it on days when I know everyone is going to be out! Portapotties here and there... not that many though! "Fiesta Island, situated within Mission Bay, is a sprawling park that attracts numerous charity walks, runs, bicycle races and special events. It is particularly renowned as the host of the annual Over-the-Line tournament. Accessible from 4 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, this peninsula offers a plethora of recreational opportunities. Notably, Fiesta Island welcomes both dogs and horses, making it a pet-friendly haven. Dogs can roam freely, either on or off leash, but owners are kindly reminded to clean up after their pets. On the island, visitors can find the Fiesta Island Youth Camp and the Aquatic Center, which cater to the community's diverse interests and needs. To ensure safety and preserve the environment, fires are permitted exclusively within the city-provided fire rings that dot the island's shoreline. These fire rings operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Portable fire containers and fires directly on the sand are strictly prohibited. For water sports enthusiasts, there is a designated 5 m.p.h. zone on the island's east side, which serves as a favored spot for recreational activities. Additionally, there is a permitted water ski area called Hidden Cove, and those interested in water skiing can obtain permits exclusively from the City of Diego Lifeguards at their headquarters, located at 2581 Quivira Court." There is plenty of parking - we've come at all times of the day and have never had an issue. You climb up a small hill and at the top you reach a large open grassy field. The trees are surrounding the border so you get a little bit of shade on the edges depending on the time of day. Also around the borders there are concrete benches to sit at, but we usually bring our own chairs. Our dog loves the open space here! So much room to run after her frisbee or chase other dogs. She definitely had good interactions with the dogs here, most seem very well socialized and the owners we've met have been friendly. Some things to keep in mind: - There are no poop bags, so you should bring your own. For a place that doesn't have them available, most of the owners here appear very responsible and have their own to clean up after their own pet. I've seen other parks with bags on site and the owners still don't pick up after their dog. - there are no water stations/fountains. However there are bowls around so you can bring water to fill them. - there are no fences. So once you climb up the hill, you're in an open park that has a natural barrier of shrubbery but I think there could be potential for dogs to wander away or out of it. We feel comfortable with our pup because her recall is pretty good. - lastly, no bathrooms!

Even street parking was full so I circled around couple times until I found one of the little league parents getting ready to leave. I got a little confused about where the dog park was because there's no fenced area. I asked one of the ladies sitting at the bench and she pointed at the picnic tables further in the park and said that's the dog park. There were only two dogs there but Gibbs had a blast playing with them in the unfenced area. The grass was in relatively good shape and the area was pretty clean. The only down side was there's no water fountain for the dogs. There was a bucket of water probably provided by some nice dog owner. I brought my own water bottle for Gibbs but the other dog owner didn't have water for her dog so we shared the one I had. Overall it's pretty nice for the dogs and for me because the view there was nice too.

I live next door to this dog park and used to go every day after dinner with my two dogs…read more The biggest change is that a partial fence between the dog area and the children's playground was installed after some run in between an off-leash dog and a little kid in the playground. The dogs used to run around and through the playground, and the new fence helps distance the dogs from the playground. The off-leash area is not completely fenced so if you're dog is a runner, this is not the park for you. I had a big rescue mastiff who would randomly get in fights with other dogs, even after I muzzled him so I stopped going. My other dog died a year ago, and the mastiff recently succumbed to cancer. :( I now have a 10-pound toy fox terrier, and I just don't feel safe taking her to the park with all the big dogs. It just takes a second for her to get trampled or attacked by a bigger dog, and I don't want to risk it. I will sometimes take her late in the day when there are only 1 or 2 dogs about. We have a big yard though, so she has the opportunity to run around off-leash at home. The dogs and owners here are very friendly for the most part. Although someone commented that the dogs don't necessarily interact that much, if you go regularly your dog will make doggie friends and you will probably make friends with other owners. People are very chatty, so you do need to not get distracted and miss seeing your dog pooping so you can clean it up. I think most owners pick up after their dogs, although you will sometimes find abandoned poop on the periphery near the canyon. There is a poop bag dispenser available. There are not any tables or chairs within the fenced off-leash area so people will often have their dogs off-leash on the wrong side of the fence (by the playground) so they can sit down. There is disappointedly no water source for doggy drinking water, although I know of at least one regular who has a key to the water and fills up a bucket during the after work bust time. Some people take their dogs onto the fully fenced baseball fields when they're not being used for a game/practice. I'm sure this is prohibited, but I've never seen or heard of anyone getting in trouble for this. There are restrooms, but I'm not sure when they're open. I've never needed to use them since I literally live next door to the park. There is a parking lot and on street parking, but parking can get very crowded during Little League games.
