This park is great for walking and one of the best places to play Pikmin bloom lol. Fire pits look nice here and not competitive to get one. The bay brings in a nice breeze. I was walking here at night one day and none of the streetlights came on and it was pretty scary. I also think the bathroom situation is pretty grim. read more

Mission Bay Park is a huge, beautiful area right on the water. Instead of crashing ocean waves, the bay has super calm water that is perfect for paddleboarding or just wading in to cool off. There are miles of flat, paved paths all around the water where you can ride a bike or take a long walk. It is also an amazing place to bring dogs, especially with Fiesta Island right there. read more

Great spot for a relaxing weekend outing! We come here all the time with friends for BBQ since it's a convenient location for families with kids. Plenty of space for the kids to play, at the sand area or the playground. It can get crowded so parking can be tricky but we always manage to find a spot so no complains. Piece of advice...stay away from the public restrooms there! read more

This was a great park to hang out on Easter after brunch and enjoy a gorgeous day by the water relaxing and taking in the sun. We spent some good time just taking in the sun and watching the tide splash againt the rocks. It was a great time and super easy to find park and just enjoy a few hours away from crowds at the beach . We caught some cute little crabs crawling up the rocks too. Parking was easy and the water is low enough fo walk in knee deep and also do some paddleboardibg. Had an amazing day Easter weekend. read more

Mission Bay Park is truly a staple in San Diego. It is like a playground for all ages. Recently, in my training for a marathon, I have been to Mission Bay Park at least twice a week, so I felt it was a good time to write this review. Mission Bay Park is huge, so there are a variety of different areas, with various activities to enjoy. First, I run there all the time. There is one trail that is just over eight miles, and another just over 12 that are both loops, which I much prefer to out and back runs. Fiesta Island, known for the off leash dog area, offers runs of approximately 5 miles or 3 miles. Mission Bay Park is really beautiful, with a variety of vegetation and many different types of birds. I love the wildflowers in late April. They are truly a sight to see! Through the years, I have gone to bonfires, gone windsurfing, floated around on the bay, had several picnics, taken my dog to run loose on Fiesta Island, and simply sat admiring the water and the sky. There are several restaurants and hotels just the other side of the walking/running trail with views of the bay to enjoy. I have been to a few weddings in Mission Bay park, a couple of birthday parties, and have been many times for other functions such as concerts, or alumni events. I sure hope the City of San Diego continues to uphold fire pits for the public as I heard they are trying to remove them. I also do wish they would change the hours when dogs are allowed. After all, how can we really enjoy the outdoors without our best friends? If you are visiting San Diego, I highly recommend you visit Mission Bay Park... and check out various locations of the park. I won't go into the long or short history of San Diego's Mission Bay, because this area probably should have remained a tidal estuary or whatever sort of natural feature it was before they dredged it, created fake islands, and brought in tourists. All of that is done, and it's unlikely to be undone, both because it's generally very difficult to undo urbanization and because it's way too expensive to try to save fragile places that have already been destroyed. Mourn the dead and fight like hell for the living, right? I'm going on about Mission Bay because Mission Bay Park is almost synonymous with the bay itself. Again, no matter how greedy or shortsighted or ignorant the original planners' ideas were, they managed to create an amazing park that contains many smaller parks, including fifteen different sites that you can rent for private parties. There is the bay itself, obviously, but there are also islands and coves and peninsulas and bridges and beaches and trails. There is plenty of parking throughout, and we used three separate restrooms when we were here, and all of them were clean--surprisingly clean for beach restrooms. There are opportunities for every non-open-ocean interest, from boating to swimming to sunbathing to biking to dog-walking to general frolicking. San Diego does parks so well, and while I've driven through and around most of Mission Bay Park, I have yet to experience most of its little parks, and I've never been out on the water. It's huge but also has a charming scale. I know that doesn't make sense, but spend some time here, and you'll know what I mean. I've been here at least a half-dozen times, including on summer weekends, and I've never seen it truly crowded. I want to explore more! read more

Mission Bay holds a lot of nostalgia for my husband and I. When in our dating phase, our first weekend getaway together was here and we had great conversations about our future walking along the paths. We were in town from LA for the weekend, had just had a big brunch nearby, and found our way to the Bay Park. We had only intended on walking a mile or two but we got to reminiscing and talking, just as we did almost 8 years ago. Our brunch walk, turned into a 6 mile walk with a sunset ending. I'm not mad about it at all. Beautiful park and bay with several activities taking place. I had no idea there was a winery/restaurant. We will be back to hang out there next time. read more

Enjoy coming to Mission Bay whether it's to just go on a walk or have a bbq or bonfire! As all park bathrooms, it can be a little gross, but thankful they have flushing toilets so can spend the whole day out here. Bonfire pits go fast especially in the summer, will need to get out there early! read more

Gotta love Mission Bay Park. I have been here a few times after hanging out at the beach. Park is still near the ocean, but it is still a short break to get away from everything. Nice running and biking trails we have indulged inside before. Great scenery of the ocean and city here. I just love it. read more

The "Bay Side" is so relaxing. With playgrounds, sidewalks for biking, and calmer waters; it's much more enjoyable. My kids still love the play grounds here and they're getting to that age where it's not going to be fun to them. The covered pavilions offer a much needed break from the sun as you eat... Lunchtime and much needed nature immersion! Today took me too this park right off the 805 Freeway. I just needed some sunshine and really wanted a moment to recharge with my Vons Onion Hoagie, homemade vegan Tomato soup, and crunchy baby carrots! Best unpaid 30 minutes, I've had in a while! Anyway, when the sun is out and there is a cool breeze, this place shimmers, with a quaint presentation of the rippling and calming Bay. If you want to experience another area most do not know. This is definitely a lucky break, but I say most may not know, because the parking area was empty midday. (Possibly the fact I went during a weekday) Unfortunately my smile went away when I was forced to catch a whiff mid-bite of smoke. Ehh.. it happens, so, not a mood-ruined moment. I was a little on the weary side, only because I was over dressed due to being in at work. So, I spent the better part of my meal and soaking of sun calming my nerves and occasionally checking my car. It doesn't hurt to be cautious. There plenty of space to run, walk, fly a kite, throw a frisbee, picnic, ramp for your water vessels, and bathrooms that are attended by the city park attendants. Places like these are great, but a caution to the tell, they are widely used, but if you're there for a positive experience, you're able to make one. Be weary the roads and parking lot, they appear to be in disrepair, a little old and worn with softball deep size pot holes. But if you are smart and lucky, you're able to traverse without too much trouble and the sunshine and green grass will erase any irritation or discomfort. Oh just remember the pot holes are still there when you're leaving too. read more

Worth the price of admission! Free99... With tons of parking and clean restrooms, it's an ideal spot to have a relaxing bbq. You can easily see baby showers, birthday parties and even small weddings here on any given day. With the water as a beautiful backdrop, it's easy to see why it is such a popular spot for locals to tourists to visit. I used to frequent this place often as a child when my uncle had his boat. It's nice to see people enjoying their water sports including kayaks and paddle boards. If the water isn't for you but you still want to put in a workout, you can easily walk jog or even rode a bike here on their paved walkways. I plan to visit more often now that I have my own children. Maybe I'll see you there!? read more

What a beautiful park. In SD for a short vacation and enjoying all the lovely places we are experiencing. This park is simply gorgeous. Beautiful landscape and so well designed for the little ones. Ample slides, swings, climbing opportunities, pretend play, green grass areas and of course the beach. Spoiled for choice. Bathrooms quite clean and there is an area with sinks to wash the Lil ones afterwards and change them. Had a great time. Our children had an amazing time playing non stop. Beautiful. Amazing peaceful serene views? Then you have come to the right place! This was my go-to when I first moved to San Diego back in 2007, I would come here as my stress-reliever. You will see people running, biking, roller blading, walking and playing in the sand to flying kites. You can also release your boat at the dock. Parking can be somewhat tricky during the summer months but today was a perfect 80 degrees for February and while somewhat busy - it is not half as busy as it would be on a Saturday in June. The great thing is you can come here anytime of year and it is beautiful with hotels nearby, PB nearby and best of all - this is free - so bring your friends for a BBQ, bring your family for some fun or come here by yourself to get away from it all! You can also get a permit for larger events and groups to reserve the area around Mission Bay Park. If you haven't been here and you've visited or lived in San Diego, you are missing out! read more

San Diego is most definitely "America's Finest City." With absolute perfect weather year-round, it's no wonder people from all over want to come here! Mission Bay is a wonderful part of this beautiful city. It's got something for everyone: beaches, bike trails, jogging paths, amazing hotels/resorts and of course, tons of places to EAT!! I came out to bless my new S.U.P. on a Friday, and loved every minute! The beaches weren't crowded at all (probably because people were out shopping on Black Friday, ha!) and parking was a breeze. Normally parking is crazy on weekends, but I guess I picked a good time to go because even the roads were empty! You'll see a lot of people out in the bay, on boats, paddle boards, kayaks, etc. I like that the water out here is calm for the most part. You can hit a few waves when the big boats pass you by, so if you're paddle boarding, I hope you can balance well or you'll fall into the water! As you cruise around the bay, you'll be able to soak in all the views. It's pretty epic to paddle under the bridges and see them from a different angle vs. what you would see from standing on land. I passed the Paradise Point Resort on my way back to the Bahia. Best part is knowing you're getting a full body workout and it doesn't even feel like it! I'll have to come back to bless my kayak. Weather is getting cold so that might not happen until spring, but I'll be looking forward to that! Mission Bay is glorious! Nice place to spend time with family, friends, or even solo for some good soul reflecting. It won't disappoint and I highly recommend it, especially if you're an outdoorsy type. Let loose, get some vitamin D, and have fun!! read more

Every time I drive by I want to stop and enjoy the park. You notice the by and all the people enjoying it it as you are driving by on the 5 freeway. You see people jogging, walking, relaxing, barbecuing, eating, jet skiing and a myriad of other activities that are available to do there. There are paved sidewalks to ride bikes on or walk around. There are rental places where you can rent bikes, boats, and other items. There are pagodas for gatherings and plenty of trees you can sit unde and relax,enjoy the sights, and the breeze. There is plenty of parking but it can get crowded and parking harder to obtain. At night you can see the Sea World fireworks if they are doing their fireworks show. read more

There are also restrooms all throughout the park as well. They do a great job keeping this park clean. Sweet spot to take a stroll or jog on the paved path. We had a picnic at the NW lot and a bonfire in one of the pits. The bay feels more like a lake as you can't quite look out into open waters. However, the water adds an air of tranquility against the sky. It's nice to see people using the space in different ways to enjoy the outdoors. Large parking lot close to the highway. read more

Such a low key, relaxing spot to check out and spend the afternoon. We stopped by around noon on Sunday and were pleasantly surprised! Plenty of parking and a very busy park. There are public showers available. This park is a perfect balance of land and sea, there's people paddle boarding and kayaking in the water and others having picnics and BBQs on the grass. There's a nice paved sidewalk that goes around the park as a walking trail. The amenities are well taken care of and maintained. It felt like a very safe park on our visit and I would recommend it as a family friendly spot! read more

At over 4,235 acres, it's the largest aquatic park of its kind in the U.S., with 27 miles of shoreline and eight official swimming areas. There are also lifeguards at these swimming areas. So it's huge, and it's a good place for walking, running, bicycling. I also saw a lot of jet skiers (Wave Runners) in the western area of the park -- a good place to go if you don't feel confident in the open ocean. There's also a ton of parking and bathrooms (did not use the bathrooms) and if you're feeling peckish, you can grab food at the Mission Bay Beach Club, which is centrally located in the park. But ... how can I say this ... there's definitely a sketchy element there. There are a lot of people living out of their cars and vans in Mission Bay Park. Some of the vehicles have graffiti on them. When I was walking, I had to skirt by a couple of small encampments in the parking lots. Is it safe there? Yes, plenty safe in the day. But would I go for a run by myself after dark in the park? Love coming to Mission Bay Park for my morning runs. Although it's kind of far for me, it's worth it when I'm looking to do my long runs of 8+ miles. I start from the parking lot right off the freeway, and make my round around fiesta island loop then back around. GoIng around 7 oR 8 in the morning, there's slot of ppl but not enough to get in the way. The park and water is makes a beautiful view. It's a veery peaceful place to be. When I was in college... At USC... I ditched class quite a bit, I'm headed down to San Diego to see friends. I know - - but I wasn't always a principal. During my southern jaunts, hanging out at some part of the greater Mission Bay complex was usually part of the plan. One of my best buddies lived in Clairemont, and doing keg stands on his balcony watching the fireworks at Seaworld? ... well friends, those are the precious moments... They don't come back again. It also became something of a stupid tradition for me to do a loop around Fiesta Island every time I went down there. But aside from the stupidity, we often enjoyed the beauty that is free parking, lots and lots of open grassy spaces, and the miles of shoreline. On my most recent trip, Mrs. and I took the kayaks, and had a leisurely paddle around the bay. We put in very near Clairemont Blvd. and I have no problem finding a parking spot, even though it was noon on a Saturday. We had our choice of going south or north of Fiesta island, which sort of splits the bay in half. The water had to be 85°, and there were many folks out in paddle craft and small sailing vessels enjoying the no wake zone south of Fiesta. I chose the southern route, completely forgetting about the virtually impossible gauntlet of jet skiers in the southwest corner of the bay. Still, we enjoyed getting out on the water, doing a little people watching as we cruised along the shore, and checked out the small "sensitive habitat" island where lots of wading birds and other assorted critters were hanging out. I also took my fishing rod, and made a few casts at one of my old spots, where there is a sunken reef. I had a tough time accessing it, however, as there was a big houseboat with 20 sorority girls on board, anchored practically on top of it. Mrs. Picante encourage me to fish someplace else. I tried to explain to her that this was really the most likely place I was going to catch a fish in the whole bay. After about ten minutes of trying, I realized that they were probably scaring all the fish away every time they went down the water slide. Despite my efforts, I didn't catch anything... But strangely, I didn't seem to mind. Just another nice day on the water. Next time, I think we'll go north of the island, head up to the bridge, and maybe go see the parts of the bay closer to the ocean. Love me some San Diego... read more

If you need a great park with great views and a little water to go along with that outing well, Mission Bay Park has it all. I'm a Native San Diegan and I have been here many times over the years for varies reasons and I have never had a bad experience here. I usually come here to get a good walk or to fly a kite, not to mention take an occasional nap here and there. You can bring your dogs, some areas they need to be on a leash, some places dogs are not allowed, and others such as the Fiesta Island, they do not need to be on a leash. There are restrooms through out the park, some areas are designated for camping, and I am pretty sure you can fish from pretty much most shores and on the bay. Fishing here is something I have never done, but I see many fishers early in the mornings so it must be a good thing. The park is pretty well kept and the grassy areas are always nice and green, but I do wish visitors would remember to pick up after themselves. read more
