The Park is situated in an oceanfront maritime forest with a beautiful beach and stunning oceans views from its free fishing pier. The park offers boardwalks to easily reach the beach as well as outdoor showers to rinse off, there are plenty of bathrooms and changing facilities just a short walk from the beach. With a mile of beach it has six cabins available to rent just several hundred yards from the beach, for those that enjoy camping there are 278 campsites nestled under the towering trees, 138 of them have full-hookups (water, electricity & sewer), there are also 30 designated, seasonal tent sites. There are 2 hiking trails available in the park, both the Sculptured Oak and Yaupon trails lead to the beach. There are 2 gift shops to do all your souvenir shopping or pick up last minute supplies for camping or fishing. There are seven picnic shelters for group gatherings, reunions, etc. The Park has an incredible nature center with programs for kids of all ages. Programs and Guided Tours include fun, engaging and educational programs on a variety of topics and are offered year round to raise awareness about the natural resources of the park. Pets are not allowed on the beaches from 10am until 5pm (7 days a week) May 1 through Labor Day, Bikes are also not allowed on the beach during the same time periods as pets.

One of the cleanest beaches I've been to, it's great for beach combing. The kid in you would rejoice if you love shells :) Important: There are no lifeguards on duty so please don't stay late after sunset. Although it can get extremely chilly and windy during cold seasons, it is a must-visit for people of all ages, especially families with kids. Free parking is limited and sometimes impossible to find during peak seasons so recommend going there early.

Clearly they make a lot of money on fines. For example, I got a parking ticket when I was parked in a public parking spot at the south end of the island. If there was signage, it was not clear. But fine, I guess I missed the signage and so be it. But now take a look at their parking violation. $25 - IF I pay it same day. I didn't even notice the violation on my window until the next day. So now I just paid $50. After 3 days, they Jack it up to $75. After one week it quadruples to $100. This is just shameful and disgraceful and I hope the town of Sunset NC lives to regret being so petty. Everything on and around the island is already pricey so I suppose the Sheriff and parking folks feel quite entitled. Get your act together Sunset and stop ripping people off you power and money hungry fascists.

Most of the time you'll probably have it to yourself though. Just head to the very northern end of OIB to find it. It's great place to sit and relax with a book if you need a change from the beach, just bring a chair with you. Overall a great hidden gem of OIB.

The Park itself is situated next to the Skywheel, just off Ocean Boulevard, located at the end of 10th Avenue in Downtown Myrtle Beach. Plyler Park is also home to some of the most sensational concerts as well as kids' shows throughout the year. You can also enjoy the stunning fireworks displays that often occur at the park. There are a number of attractions nearby that you can enjoy too. Take a ride on the gigantic Myrtle Beach Skywheel, one of the largest Ferris wheels at the Family Kingdom Amusement, or take a break from the sun at Splashes Water Park, which is located within a short stroll from Plyler Park itself.

It's not huge, and there aren't any amenities (eg a bathroom or playground), but if you're looking for a space to take in a bit of nature and wildlife, this is a gorgeous option. When we visited there were a few people fishing off of the deck, so if that's your thing, it may be worth looking into.
