This is a beautiful, free park. The trails are totally flat. The old growth trees and boardwalk views were stunning.

Relaxing and quite a bit of a walk if you are looking for a nice time to get some steps in. I saw a dolphin in the water, a crane and some other birds. The shell tree area is cute and we hung a few ourselves. read more

It seems to be a pretty busy place I guess it's one of the very few places where you can bring dogs. I realize that along the beach is definitely not dog friendly. I brought my dog on the beach down the road and got a lot of dirty looks and apparently beaches aren't dog friendly for some reason. So a lot of people had a lot of dogs here walking around. They had two Porta potties that are not well-maintained. You can walk along the walkway, they have a few regular porch swings and a few kids swings. There wasn't any grass for dogs to go to the bathroom which would've been nice. read more

I had not looked at the map, but I was surprised to find that this turn off was just before the state line between North and South Carolina. This park includes some fantastic boardwalk goes through wetlands that ecologically look more like what I expect from North Carolina than South Carolina. Great sights either way and plenty of wildlife. It is free to enter, though the gates were closing before dark, and the weather was not great. There is a graveyard that one passes on the way in and it is a testament to whoever is in it that this land was dedicated for public use. read more

Fantastic nature spot with fun wooded trails and a boardwalk options! Plenty of parking available close to the trails, little markers throughout the gardens to help identify some of the creatures living in the marsh and the general area. We mostly followed the boardwalks and didn't really get too close to the water but had the opportunity scout the beach area and relax at one of the boardwalks that turned into a pier. There were several people walking their dogs, exercising or doing some fun water activities but the overall vibe of the area was a relaxing one. By the parking lot were a couple swings and places to sit in as well as a portable bathroom for visitors to use. Could be a great picnic spot! During our walk, we saw some blue crab, fiddler crabs, and a few schools of fish in brackish waters. Also heard and saw several species of large birds just chillin' and hanging out. Nature at it's best! read more

What a beautiful place to go and just enjoy walking and peace and quiet , so many gorgeous photos to take and a great atmosphere

A nice mix of boardwalk and natural trails. We took our jogging stroller and were able to walk most places, we did have a few very bumpy spots with lots of tree roots but were able to make it over them! The boardwalks overlooking the salt marsh are nice, but I do wish they had them marked as one way during the time of covid! When we were near the water the bugs were not bad at all, but when we got back into the more wooded areas the mosquitoes attacked! Be sure to put some bug spray on before your walk! read more

A really nice place to take a walk with family, friends and your dog. Great views and nice paths for walking. There are a few swing sets for children, several swings for adults and shelters for sitting. Nice cards along the walk educating about plants and native animals. Bring a Sharpie pen, find a shell and write a wish on the shell to hang on the wishing tree. The county parks and recreation could make this ideal with some indoor bathrooms closer to the waterway parking area. A nice place to visit at no cost although donations are welcome. read more

This is the definition of a hidden gem. I've been visiting the Myrtle Beach area all my life and I had never even heard of this place but it will be a staple on our trips from now on. We were in town over the Fourth of July and were looking for something to do with the kids while also avoiding crowds. A tall task in Myrtle on the 4th of July... After some Googling and time spent on Yelp, we decided to head to Calabash for food and ice cream then visit the gardens to end the night. We only had about 40 minutes to visit before the gates closed but it was a lovely, quiet time for our family. We found birds and fiddler crabs, we put shells on trees and made wishes, and said hello to a few friendly faces who seemed like regulars. The boardwalks and paths are easy to walk and there is so much beautiful nature to take in. We ended with some swinging, watching the sun lowering over the marsh. This is a very unique, FREE (!!!) offering in the Myrtle area and we are so glad we discovered it. read more

One of my favorite places to escape! On a quiet day it's magical. The breeze blowing through the trees, and the sound of shells that people have tied onto the tree limbs clinking together; like a natural wind chime. I love hearing the birds and looking up as sofly filtered sunlight makes its way through the canopy of leaves to the forest floor. Absolutely beautiful! read more

What a fabulous hidden gem! We came across this place as a place to get our pup out of the house and it was perfect. There's parking at the top and bottom of the trails (we prefer the ones inside the park) and there's plenty of parking to be had. There are maps located near the restrooms and plenty of benches for just taking in the views or catching your breath. Part of the trail goes near the water and there's a lot of people fishing or playing with their dogs. The trails are easily marked and are typically flat/sandy which makes for easy walking. I would recommend it for all skill levels! read more

This is a mostly tree-covered park with easy walking trails. There are trails that lead to the beach on the intercoastal waterway (ICW). There are bathrooms too. The access is on the road to Calabash, NC. It's a nice park to walk your dogs. read more

We're spending a few weeks in North Myrtle Beach and found this place to do some walking. Flat trails with lots of trees and the boardwalks we're enjoyable. Stopped by the small Vereen family cemetery on the way out. An enjoyable way to spend an hour or two. read more

We just discovered this amazing natural area that flys below most people's radar. A natural nature preserve on Little River, Vereen Memorial Gardens features numerous hiking trails and wooden boardwalks that extend across several beautiful salt marshes and small islands, with a nice gazebo that overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway. You can park and take a stroll out across some incredibly scenic pathways to find yourself at a wide observation deck extending into the waterway. There are several trails that meander through the gardens making it a fantastic place for your daily walk. The Gardens have several picnic shelters for gatherings. Fishing is allowed and the gardens are pet friendly. Admission is free, however donations are gratefully accepted. read more

What a lovely spot! Quite a contrast to the attractions of Myrtle Beach! When you turn off hwy 179 and enter the garden, you are in another world. The woods, the plants, the picnic shelters and bench swings. The huge Live Oaks with their long, low branches, the boardwalks and fishing pier create an outdoor paradise. There are plenty of places to sit and relax or read. We visited in mid May this year, and there we no bugs of any kind to annoy us. My Love spent a couple of hours fishing and caught 20 or 30 small croakers using shrimp for bait. He released them as he caught them. I walked along the shelly water front, collecting shells to create my Shell Wish Tree back home. I also sat on a shady bench in the woods and read. This is a favorite spot for locals to visit and to walk their dogs. Everyone we encountered was thoughtful and removed all wastes and trash. There was absolutely no litter to be seen anywhere. read more

Our family of four (two kids ages 4 and 6, parents, and a grandmother) all enjoyed this beautiful hike while visiting Sunset Beach for spring break. The trail map is a bit confusing and we did get sort of lost...all in good fun. There was a nice mix of boardwalk over marshes, riverside trail, packed forest trails, and even a picturesque pond. We all enjoyed the elevation changes, shade, and the sights and smells of nature. Very relaxing and meditative! We saw crabs, a snake, many pretty birds, and insects such as butterflies, a roly poly, an inchworm, and ants, in addition to a variety of flowers and trees. We all left happy. The swing set and oyster wishing tree were nice additions. My 6 year daughter said this hike was the best part of the whole week! Pro tips-Bring your own water and use the bathroom before you come, unless you enjoy port-a-potties. Great free park! read more

Son-in-law found this place while scoping out places to fish near our condo. It's just a short 10 minute drive to Little River from where we were staying in Cherry Grove. Free admission, but they do have a donation box to help with park upkeep. Son-n-law and I didn't see that much of the park 'cause we were on the pier fishing. Its on the intercoastal waterway and boat traffic including large boats can be quite heavy, but that didn't stop the black drum from biting that day. Its cheaper to get a non-resident saltwater fishing license which is only $11 for two weeks and fish here or surf fish than pay $10.50 per person per rod per day plus $8 parking to fish on the Cherry Grove Pier. Nice gazebo with benches just before where the pier starts that we all had a nice picnic lunch at. Wife, daughter and granddaughter walked around the trails and visited the cemetery on the grounds of the family the park is named for. It has some civil and revolutionary war tombstones for you history buffs. Next time we are in the area we will be coming back for another visit. read more
