Based on the information on her own website, she does not appear to have any formal qualifications in resume writing or career coaching. Her primary credential seems to be that she personally received offers from jobs she applied to and then decided to start writing resumes for other people. The process itself was incredibly disappointing. I spent a significant amount of time filling out detailed forms describing my experience and accomplishments, only to find that much of what I wrote was copied almost verbatim into my resume. There was very little added value or strategic thinking. I could have done that myself. The LinkedIn "optimization" was equally poor. It consisted of little more than rewriting the summary section. There was no discussion of headlines, skills, services, keywords, languages, profile structure, or how recruiters actually search for candidates. It felt like there was no understanding of LinkedIn as a recruiting tool. The most frustrating part was the lack of collaboration. When I asked why certain wording had been chosen and requested a different format, instead of explaining the strategy or discussing alternatives, I was met with, "Why did you hire me then?" That response alone told me everything I needed to know about the level of professionalism I was dealing with. Charging $1,500 for this service is, in my opinion, completely unjustifiable. I expected expertise, thoughtful guidance, and a resume that reflected strategy and experience. Instead, I received a lightly edited version of my own words with little explanation and poor communication throughout the process. This was the biggest waste of money I've ever made and one of the worst service experiences I've had. I cannot recommend this service to anyone.

Before finalizing payment, I simply asked to see a sample of her work, which is a reasonable request when hiring someone for resume services. Instead of responding professionally, she abruptly told me we weren't a good match and refused to continue helping me. In addition, During our communication, she also mentioned that I was asking the same questions, but I was only reiterating to make sure I understood everything clearly before paying. Fern doesn't live in my area, so communication was difficult -- she often didn't get back to me right away, and her process appears to take around three weeks to complete a resume after payment. I found her response rude and unprofessional, especially after I had already spent time communicating and providing my background. When paying several hundred dollars upfront, I think it's fair to expect transparency, courtesy, and timely communication. There are plenty of other career counseling services that charge far less and offer a much faster turnaround time. I even found one that includes a cover letter for just $220 -- much more reasonable than $335.

I got in touch with Fern because I was out of ideas. Fern met with me first to talk about what we might do and did not charge me for the time. We then met several times after that for career counseling. Her prices were reasonable, which I really appreciated. She's a great listener, really supportive and very courteous. She really lifted my spirits. She also knew a lot about how hard it is to go back to work. She helped me figure out new ways to do things. She suggested consulting, because it wouldn't require physical labor and instead would use my knowledge. I really liked the idea and wouldn't ever have thought of it. Then we looked at my website, which was very outdated. Fern rewrote the information and had me add photos, which I never used on the website before. It looked and sounded great. After our meetings, I decided to take consulting jobs and hire subcontractors for the labor. I was able to get consulting jobs, and the customers who got in touch said positive things about the website. I appreciated being able to get back to work without the physical risks and having a chance to get out there again doing work I really missed. I recently returned to full-time retirement, but I enjoyed several great years of consulting, thanks to my work with Fern. Her counseling helped me see my choices and that I had a lot to offer, and she really lifted my spirits. I'm very glad that I worked with her. She's a terrific career counselor.

The part that I DID mind was the fact that they asked me to give them a phone call to discuss what I needed help with, and then were never available for the phone call. My call was rescheduled 3 times in less than 2 weeks, then it was postponed indefinitely. Finally a few weeks later I got an email asking to reschedule and I was all set at that point. The person I was in contact with seemed to be very nice and everything, however if a new customer is reaching out for your services you should definitely pay them more attention before you just lose their business to another service. I'm glad I didn't waste my money, but it's a shame that they lost out on business because they didn't think I was important. Update for clarification: I've received a response from Spring Forward stating that no one by my name has ever done business with them. I specifically use a nickname for Yelp reviews so that I can't be personally attacked in reviews, emails or phone calls that the business does not approve of. Not having my name in their system does not invalidate the honest review I've posted.
