First, Katy is a valuable employee for OOV. She was on top of everything in the reservation process and helpful when things went sideways. We arrived after 4:00pm, as instructed. The lockbox was empty - no key. I phoned the office in Yachats and left a message. No response. I called ten minutes later and left another message. No response. I seriously have to pee by this time after our 3 hour drive. It was also getting chilly and the website said the office closed at 5:00pm. Both of my calls were made before that. I remembered I had corresponded with Katy and located the email. I called her number and she answered right away. I explained the sitch and she said the manager just saw the message and was on his way from home to the office to get the spare key. She estimated about ten minutes and he'd be at the rental. Here's where it gets strange. About 25 mins later, the manager shows up, exits his car, didn't introduce himself, tells us the key is probably sitting inside, and has a screw driver in his hand. "No spare key?" I ask. "No, but I have a solution." He then starts to try to Jimmy the door lock. I'm thinking 2 things: 1. So we'll be in a house without a lockable front door? 2. How does one Jimmy a deadbolt? Fatigue, bladder rebellion, and chillier winds made me say, "I don't think that's going to work and you're going to ruin your door. We'll just take a refund and find a motel in Newport. He pulls a set of keys out of his pocket and says there's a rental just down the road we could use. And it's a better one. Ok, I always appreciate it when a person tries to make things right. The driveway into the property had multiple mud holes and going in I bottomed my car a bunch of times. We had to maneuver those holes every time we went out and came back. The house was bigger. We could use the hot tub, but the original rental didn't have one so none of us had bathing suits. The house was clean but it seemed it hadn't been readied for guests. There were few towels and 5 of us (in a house that was for 8) almost ran out of toilet paper. The table cloth had recent juice stains on(we just took it off), and the dishwasher was full of clean dishes. We unloaded so we could use it. I know people have bad days and things can go haywire. What concerned me in this experience was: - no response to my calls before closing time - no spare key - a screw driver to Jimmy a lock and a dead bolt? - having to ask for a refund to trigger the offer of the other place - not aware of readiness status of the place offered Hopefully this was a Murphy's Law one off crazy day. first off, I'd like to say ocean odyssey is a really good vacation rental business. I've had no problems with them. they're very good at what they do. the houses have been very clean and mostly comfortable. the last house we rented, however, had a problem that I mentioned in my review. the floors are tiled but the house is older and the floors weren't exactly level. two of the tiles stuck out a bit and I tripped on them and did a face plant. I cut my lip, which isn't serious but when I put that fact in my review ( I thought for safety , I should mention it to other renters) they wouldn't print my review. it's been two days and I thought maybe they'd post it, but they removed it. We have rented a vacation home from them every year for 7 years now and Katy is always quick to respond to any concerns and the easiest to work with when booking , the home is usually mostly clean on arrival although on some stays I am cleaning up dog hair from previous renters on furniture and the on the sliding glass door after that I can relax and the home is perfect for us and beach access is right out the back door .the check out process is usually not a problem although washing and drying the sheets and towels is sometimes time consuming. We have continued renting from them due to the reasonable rates as long as that does not change we will continue to rent from them in the future. read more

The property was as described. The location is great and the furniture is comfortable. Some things need to be replaces however. The refrigerator makes a loud clunking noise when it turns off. The cookwear is in pretty bad shape and the kitchen faucet looks like it will fall apart any moment. Our biggest issue is that we arrived at the house at check in time but it had not been cleaned. It took a few phone calls to be resolved but we weren't able to get into the house for 3 more hours. It made for a very long day. The property manager said that he "would make it up to us" but we never heard from him again. read more

We have been coming to our little vacation rental house twice a yr for over 20 yrs. Peter at Ocean Odyssey Vacation Rentals is a delight, and has made our stay and the process of it so much easier. He worked alone during the pandemic to keep everything afloat. The cleaning staff has kept the place clean. We are already booked for two more stays. We rent the "Endless Sea" home from Ocean Odyssey at least once per year and have always had a great experience. The home is gorgeous with an amazing view and excellent furnishings. The kitchen is to die for. Whale sightings, a hot tub with a starry view at night, a beautiful beach right outside, comfy beds and armchairs that face the ocean make for one of those vacations where you actually get to RELAX. When we had a potentially major issue with a booking, it was handled gracefully and ended very well. The staff always does everything they can for us, and we have total trust in them. One must consider this a fortunate find: integrity, conscientiousness, and true care for your property are three factors not easily found elsewhere. Communication with the owner-client is always prompt and accessible, and a genuine concern for the owner's renters is readily apparent no matter the time of day or the season. It has been easy for us to remain loyal to O.O., and its principal, Peter, who also earns the respect and loyalty of not only his staff but the surrounding community of neighbors, repair/maintenance folks, and sometimes most importantly, local government. Indeed, he charts your course over the sometimes tempestuous seas of distant home ownership, keeping your interests paramount and facing any unexpected events with calm and deliberation. After renting a house for the week, my partner and I departed thinking we had everything we brought in the trunk. On the way home we discovered she had left her suitcase on the porch. We called the rental folks and they said they would go pick it up and we should get it at their office which we did thirty minutes later. When we unpacked we discovered the suitcase had been rifled through and items of clothing and jewelry were missing. The house was on a very secluded little street and the porch where the suitcase was left was not visible from the road. Who would have had the opportunity to go through the suitcase and take some items, but leave the rest? We suspect it was the cleaning person. We called the rental folks and told them about the missing items. They claimed someone must have pulled up in a car, wound their way through the driveway and garden, opened and perused the belongings in the suitcase and then made a get-away before they or the cleaning lady were aware. They also said we should consider adopting their attitude of "if they stole it, they must need it more than me" about the Columbia Sportswear jacket, jewelry and personal items that were missing! read more

We rented a house on the coast and it was not near as advertised, carpet had stains all over, smelled like dog pee, only half the hot tub worked... We went and bought Frabreeze and scented candles to make the best of it. The worse part is after we got back I emailed Odyessey and they never replied, never returned call. read more

I can't say enough about our experience with this wonderful vacation rental company! We stayed for a week at the Seventh wave house! It was clean, fully stocked with amenities and location location location! The view from the deck never got old, we actually extended our trip! Peter the office manager was just delightful to work with! He gave us great weekly rates! Checked on us by phone to make sure our stay was comfortable, and even went out of his way to make sure the new very extensive cable package was transferred during our stay so our teenagers could get all the premium channels in the very large media room! We stayed here while waiting for our new home to close, near the end of our stay we found we wouldn't be able to close on the day promised! We were so stressed! After a quick call to Peter in the office he personally made sure we had affordable options in our price range for the extra week with no additional fees! His care meant so much to us in this stressful transition! It allowed us to enjoy a vacation with our kids while transitioning into our new home! And by the way Yachats is epic! Stunning nature, great restaurants, awesome community vibe and the weather was beautiful! This will be our go to rental for the beach from now on!! read more

Maintenance issues throughout! Recently I visited some out-of-state friends who rented this location for a week. First, this location is fantastic! The sights and sounds of the coast were wonderful. I'd love to recommend this place to others however, the house needs some TLC desperately! There are several things that need to be repaired/updated. 1. There was an issue with the provided grill. Was gas supposed to be provided by the house? Should the grill have been cleaned prior to use by the renters? 2. Why are all of the outlets installed "upside-down" (ground plug input above terminal inputs)? Also, the downstairs bedroom was missing plate covers on two of the outlets. 3. The house has 5 "TV's". I use quotations because the lower level bedroom TV was an old-school tube-TV that wasn't hooked up to anything. No cable, DVD player, VCR, or power for that matter. It was a dinosaur with a blank face starring at those in the bed. The lower level living room TV was HUGE and had an active Hulu account (that was stumbled upon). This discovery was nice but the plethora of remotes and other components were overwhelming. The upper level living room had 2 TV's, of which 1 worked? The smaller one. On a table. Below the larger wall-mounted one. This was the best TV with full cable and a DVD player although the smallest modern TV in the house. 4. What is up with the fireplace? Great idea.... poor location/design. It is too big and the chains suspending it from the ceiling caught every arms/elbow/shoulder if you were aware of this thing in the middle of the main thoroughfare of the main level. 5. The lower level shower surround needs repair/replacing. It was warped and removed from the wall on both ends of the shower. There are many other items I could mention but I will end it on this. My friends enjoyed their stay but I wouldn't be returning to this location again. There must be better maintained rentals in the area. read more

Overall the service was ok once we got there, however when I was trying to book the rental, I could not get a response to my emails. I sent an inquiry with a few questions and a tentative date in mind. Instead of replying to my questions they blocked out my tentative dates as if they were already booked so that when I actually tried to make the reservation, it showed as unavailable. When I sent another email about it they did not reply but instead just made the dates available again without telling me. Also, the house was not properly described or reviewed. When we arrived after a long drive in the dark and rain we could not even find the access to the upstairs even with three people looking for it. I had to call the emergency number and he seemed to think it was funny that we couldn't locate it. It was actually a door on a side porch right next to the door going out on the porch. It was basically a separate apartment with its own exterior entrance. Very steep narrow steps going up, lots of other steps to the kitchen, to the living room and even three steps up to a weird built in bed. The house was in a great location right in the middle of town but did not really suit our needs. The master bathroom does not have a door and if two people are sharing there would be no privacy. read more

We rented a cabin this summer. This was not our first time with this company and the last two had been hit or miss. The cabin did look as advertised once we arrived. It was unfortunately absolutely unclean and downright neglected. We lost food to a non-working fridge, wrestled with a half-working barbecue, sneezed from the dust and discovered very old grease drops falling into our fresh cooked seafood dish from an unbelievably disgusting and unclean kitchen extractor. It's OK because OO's manager came around and did what he could to remediate the issues. He looked very upset and even reimbursed some nights. But had we not asked for that last gesture, I think it would have never gotten taken care of. Too bad. I would have gladly paid the full price + 20% for a clean house and a more pleasant week! There has got to be a hard-working struggling house cleaner willing to do a better job for OO but they keep letting the properties ferment in their juices! read more

Recently rented a beach house through Ocean Odyssey. Cannot say enough good things about Ocean Odyssey. Reasonable, helpful, up front and clear about everything. When I checked in late Friday I discovered hot tub not working. Sent an email late Friday night to let them know. At 9:10 on Saturday morning the service man, a nice and pleasant man, was on the deck dealing with the issue. This company is without question my go to outfit in the future. read more

We just returned from Ocean Odyssey's Valhalla property in Waldport, OR. We've rented other properties from Ocean Odyssey and consistently receive great service during the rental process from their office staff. We were really looking forward to treating our children and grandchildren from Virginia to a great time at what appeared to be a beautiful beach home. As soon as we walked in the door I was disappointed; it felt dirty. The windows AND mirrors were filthy, not just outside as you expect at the coast, but inside too. There were handprints and smudges all over, in addition to the outside coast grit; tarnishing the thrill of having an "ocean view." Topping off this initial feeling, we found clipped toenails on the floor beside the master bed, which was just gross. There is NO WAY anyone could have made the bed and not seen them; leaving us to wonder... As our stay continued we discovered that the hot water did not work in the kitchen, the fireplace was awaiting repairs and most of the dishes in the kitchen were dirty and had to be washed before using. The kids really would have liked to use the foosball table in the bunk bedroom, but there was no ball anywhere to be found. We also didn't find the furniture to be very comfy. The house itself was nice and very roomy for a group of 6-9. There were lots of games and books to entertain. The walk over the dunes to the beach is much steeper than shown in any of the photos; they should be more honest about that because it is a chore for folks who have problems walking. I would do business with O. O. again, but I don't think I would stay at another of their properties in Waldport on the beach front; most don't appear to be well maintained and this one and another we saw just felt filthy THAT is the main reason for the 2 stars. read more

We loved our stay in the Acqua Vita over the 4th of July. The house was so spacious and comfortable. The view was great, access to the town within walking distance, and the kids loved having their own space in the HUGE room over the garage! Ocean Odyssey were wonderful to work with. Wendy (who I am sure was tired of my array of questions) was so helpful and patient. We locked ourselves out of the house and they responded with help very quickly. The view and location are incredible! Too bad my week long trip was somewhat spoiled by a very grubby cabin. My mother and I stayed in the "HI-TIDE" cabin in August of 2010 in Waldport Oregon. Upon entering it looked cute and cozy but as we explored the kitchen and the bathroom the lack of cleanliness was revealed. The toilet smelled of urine, the shower stall was grimy, rusty and very moldy. The shower curtain was revolting, with scum and black mildew on the bottom. The kitchen dish rack was totally filthy and the floor needed a good cleaning. The garbage can sitting in the kitchen was covered with the previous guests gunk. My mother and I spent the first hours of our vacation cleaning these things in order to feel somewhat comfortable during our stay. I did not pay 1 grand to clean up after other people! The place was also very dusty and filled with cobwebs. The lace curtains that were supposed to be white were BROWN. I don't think they had been washed in years. I do not mind rustic, shabby, or older accommodations but there is no reason a bathroom and kitchen cannot be thoroughly clean. Get a cleaning schedule for goodness sake! I live in the Pacific NW I know mold can be a problem but it can be managed. There is no excuse for such filth. I will be returning to this area of the Oregon coast but it will not be through Ocean Odyssey. read more

We used Ocean Odyssey to rent a home in Waldport (Morgan's Beach Bungalow) in May 2010. The house was great and Ocean Odyssey was great to deal with. Wendy was a awesome during booking and went out of her way to tell me about the house and answered all my silly questions. They were a little lax about remembering to give me the code to enter the home (had to call and request it) but they readily gave it to me over the phone. Great service. So about the house itself. It was beachfront on a quiet little community north of Waldport. I wish the had better pictures on their website as they did not do the cute little cottage justice. It was much nicer in person. They need to get some High Res pictures. The house was well equipped with everything you could need (well except a hair dryer - I mean they had an iron but no hair dryer - which makes more sense at a beach?). Anyway they had sand toys in the garage for the kiddies and everything you could ever think of needing for the kitchen. The one weird thing was when we arrived we found a huge sand dune had taken over the "patio" - which was okay as the kids played on it for hours but it did impede our ocean view a bit. However one day we were out sight seeing and upon our return the sand dune was GONE! They had brought a bulldozer in to knock it down and we had a patio again. Really cool view then! I wished I had that the prior two days I had been there as the view was quite beautiful. All in all this house rocked and the service at Ocean Odyssey was great! read more
