I asked my sister to look for a place for the four of us and she picked the Beachfront Inn. I was a little skeptical because our travel tastes are different. I like luxury and she is more economy. That being said all four of us LOVED our stay. I believe the innkeeper was Stan and he was a delight. My husband and I stayed in the biggest room with the en-suite and we did not need to concern ourselves with the lack of AC because the ocean breeze was amazing. I loved the location, we were on the beach and could walk from the ferry and to Circuit Avenue. The innkeeper makes the difference at any bed&breakfast and Stan made us feel like we were literally at home. We enjoyed our stay so much when we looked to book a place for guests to stay for our 25th anniversary, he was our first call. I saw the negative reviews and couldn't hold back my review so that's why I'm writing after all these years. As a matter of fact I am writing this while sitting on the beach in front of the Beachfront Inn and telling my friends what a nice place it is. So I am not sure about the negative reviews but that was certainly not the experience of four people from NYC. Hopefully, you'll give them a try.

I do not like lots of flowers and lace so this was nice for me. I stayed in the Apricot room, and it was clean, light, and airy, with minimal lace. (It was kind of pinkish, but then again, it was the apricot room.) -Ceilings are high and while the smaller rooms are small, they're not cramped, and the high ceilings kind of make you feel like you're in a treehouse. I loved that feeling. -There is wifi. -The owners and everyone staffing the B&B were very nice, warm, and welcoming. I have stayed at some B&Bs were it was just kind of awkward, and this one was not like that. They were genuinely pleasant. -They make it clear on the website that the rooms don't have AC, but do have fans. Honestly, we barely needed the fans-- the house stays fairly cool, and so did our room, even though we were on the second floor. -My parents were there at the same time we were, and their room had a little balcony overlooking the beach, which was awesome. -The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable. Definitely as good as top of the line hotels that I have stayed in. And a ton better than many budget hotels. It also happens to be better than my own bed, although that may just say more about my own place. CONS: -It's an old house. Floors creak, walls are thin, etc. If you're the kind of person who avoids rooms near the elevator in a standard hotel, beware. You will hear people walking around periodically. It didn't bother me, but I thought it was worth mentioning. -I would describe the style of the house (not the rooms) as older. Not kitchy in the way that someone deliberately tried to make things overly floral, but in the way that it's full of older pieces and antiques from someone's life. Not my style, but I made good use of the rocking chairs on the front porch and was quite content that way. -Breakfast is not full style breakfast, but continental (toast, jam, tea, etc). Again, this is something that's clear on the website, but if you're looking for the traditional hot breakfast of many B&Bs, this is not your place.

Don't rent with Mart Vineyard Rentals and Real Estate!! I rented what was supposed to be a luxury…read more5 bedroom home. It had several problems. The first night of a 7 night stay, my daughter broke out in hives after sleeping in one of the bedrooms. We disinfected the room, sanitized the sheets and after the second night, we had to take her to urgent care the next morning. Needless to say, that room was off limits. On the third day raw sewage backed up into the only bathroom on the ground floor. The toilet and shower was overflowing with untreated feces and urine. When the septic repair person came, he indicated that the tank was not properly maintained and had not been serviced in more than 3 years! When we arrived, on day one, we contacted Lisa Silvia, our rental agent, to tell her the refrigerator ice maker and water dispenser was not working. Lisa's response to us was "the ice maker and water dispenser were not guaranteed to be operational" (excuse me- for over $20k per week, we expected a fully functional refrigerator for our luxury rental). The cabinets were full of the homeowners glasses and dish ware. The panty was locked. We had no place to store our week's worth of groceries. Someone had to be sent over to clear two shelves for our grocery storage... we had to move the grocery from the countertop to the dinning room table and back before and after cooking each meal. The gas grill didn't have propane...we had to get it filled and replace it. Please keep in mind this was listed as a luxury rental. During the sewer backup, we had to cancel our plans for the day and stay at the home to wait for the repair people to come. We wasted another day for a cleaning staff to come to clean and sanitize the only downstairs bathroom. My 90 year old father had to navigate the stairs to use the bathroom for two days!! Electric circuits were not working in one room. Sliding doors and blinds were not functional on the main floor. The garbage had been piled up for weeks in the outside storage bins... we couldn't fit our garbage in on the first night!! And the front door never locked!! It was a disaster!! The rental office was non-responsive. We actually managed the property during our vacation. We told Lisa we expected a refund of some sort. It has been a month and a half and we have not received our deposit and we're told we would not receive a refund. We may have to take legal action. Do not use MV Vacation rentals & Real Estate!! They are the worst!! If I were able to give negative stars, I would.

You can literally walk from the hotel to all the restaurants, shops, and everything else you'd want to check out in the area. Being able to leave the car alone and just walk around Oak Bluffs was definitely a plus. The staff was mad friendly and accommodating throughout our stay. We were there during the height of the summer season, when the island was PACKED, and everything at the hotel was still on point. Great location, cozy atmosphere, and excellent hospitality. I'd definitely stay here again on another trip to Martha's Vineyard. Highly recommend!

All doubts were put to rest the moment I walked in. The Flying Seahorse is a wonderful treasure. The cottage is beautiful inside. Rooms are spacious and decor is fun and beachy. The location could not be better--a stone's throw from the beach and short gorgeous walks to town, tennis, basketball courts, playground, the campground and OB marina. The owners are new, a lovely family eager to help and accommodate guests. I would give more stars if I could!
