Edgartown was the first town we visited at Martha's Vineyard. Located on the eastern side of the Island, Edgartown is a quiet, lovely village with a deep history of its New England whaling past... we enjoyed some shopping at local souvenir shops. We had lunch at the Seafood Shanty and stopped by the Ice Cream and Candy Bazaar for some ice cream and chocolates. This is the town where they filmed some of the scenes from Steven Spielberg's 1975 blockbuster "Jaws." The original sign used for Amity National Bank was displayed inside the Edgartown Nat'l Bank. We hopped on the VTA Bus #5 that took us to the Town of Aquinnah. It is the least populous town on the island. Here we were able to view the the multicolored clay cliffs of the Gay Head Cliffs and its surroundings including the Gay Head Lighthouse. That lighthouse was featured in Jaws too. Lastly, we got off the VTA Bus #13 at the Town of Oak Bluffs located at the northeastern shore of the island. This town is contrast to the old world charm of Edgartown and the vast fields at Aquinnah. Oak Bluffs is a vibrant and happening town. We saw the the Flying Horses Carousel but we totally missed the Gingerbread Houses! ... now I want to go back to MV again and see those pastel-colored cottages. Don't rent with Mart Vineyard Rentals and Real Estate!! I rented what was supposed to be a luxury…read more5 bedroom home. It had several problems. The first night of a 7 night stay, my daughter broke out in hives after sleeping in one of the bedrooms. We disinfected the room, sanitized the sheets and after the second night, we had to take her to urgent care the next morning. Needless to say, that room was off limits. On the third day raw sewage backed up into the only bathroom on the ground floor. The toilet and shower was overflowing with untreated feces and urine. When the septic repair person came, he indicated that the tank was not properly maintained and had not been serviced in more than 3 years! When we arrived, on day one, we contacted Lisa Silvia, our rental agent, to tell her the refrigerator ice maker and water dispenser was not working. Lisa's response to us was "the ice maker and water dispenser were not guaranteed to be operational" (excuse me- for over $20k per week, we expected a fully functional refrigerator for our luxury rental). The cabinets were full of the homeowners glasses and dish ware. The panty was locked. We had no place to store our week's worth of groceries. Someone had to be sent over to clear two shelves for our grocery storage... we had to move the grocery from the countertop to the dinning room table and back before and after cooking each meal. The gas grill didn't have propane...we had to get it filled and replace it. Please keep in mind this was listed as a luxury rental. During the sewer backup, we had to cancel our plans for the day and stay at the home to wait for the repair people to come. We wasted another day for a cleaning staff to come to clean and sanitize the only downstairs bathroom. My 90 year old father had to navigate the stairs to use the bathroom for two days!! Electric circuits were not working in one room. Sliding doors and blinds were not functional on the main floor. The garbage had been piled up for weeks in the outside storage bins... we couldn't fit our garbage in on the first night!! And the front door never locked!! It was a disaster!! The rental office was non-responsive. We actually managed the property during our vacation. We told Lisa we expected a refund of some sort. It has been a month and a half and we have not received our deposit and we're told we would not receive a refund. We may have to take legal action. Do not use MV Vacation rentals & Real Estate!! They are the worst!! If I were able to give negative stars, I would.

I liked that you can store your belongings before check in, and they offer a fully stacked back patio with snacks, coffee, and drinks. The room was very spacious, well stocked and clean. Our family has stayed here many times over the years, but after this recent interaction, we won't be coming back. We booked a stay for next year, received a confirmation email, and had a deposit withdrawn from our account -- only to have the deposit refunded days later without any communication whatsoever. When I called to find out what happened, Julia told me there was a "website issue" and that we never should've been able to book because next year's rates haven't been set yet. This directly contradicted the confirmation email, which clearly stated our rate was locked in. When I asked if they could honor the confirmed rate -- a basic standard in most reputable businesses -- Julia became defensive and irate. She told me, verbatim, that if I thought she was a terrible business owner, I probably shouldn't stay there. She was rude, condescending, and completely dismissive. Julia may claim the business has "integrity" and a long history on the island, but it's clear the current management does not reflect those values. This place might have had a good reputation in the past, but it's absolutely not the same under her leadership. A hospitality business with no regard for basic courtesy or professionalism is one to steer clear of.

I was scared by the online reviews I was reading about the unit; it being outdated and dirty, but alas, it was fine if you manage expectations. $315 is a lot, but not in July on Martha's Vineyard, with 10 days out, let's be real. Every other option at this time was $700+ at some fancier hotels. The unit had a little kitchenette, it was clean, dark, air conditioned. It was simple, and yes, not the most stylish or up-to-date, but we spent barely anytime in the room. The Inn itself is great for families. A little playground, tennis courts (although you probably need to make reservations well in advance for a court), a nice pool area, some grills, fire pits and lots of open space. On site, there is a hopping restaurant with a ton of outdoor area, perfect for families. Communication was great, they sent me 3-4 emails leading up to our stay with all the relevant info, and I was able to check-out via text. We'd come again here and definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a simple, family friendly stay that won't cost ya.

We booked property #718 located at 60 Old Purchase Rd almost nine months ago. We are a young family of 5, three children six years and younger, that has to put in a lot of time for planning and frankly saving for a trip like this. When we arrived we knew we were in for a long week ahead. The house was a complete beat up, run down, tired mess. We arrived to a house with no hand soap, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, useable pillows, mixing bowls, Saran Wrap/tin foil/ziploc bags, trash bags, cutting boards, missing furniture, do I dare continue? We let the broker Paula know how upset we were and frankly there was no sympathy nor help offered. Someone dropped off two pillows, but that's where the help ended. We notified the company of a towel rack ripped off the wall and that wasn't rectified either. We were supposed to be at the house to have the caretaker access and fix the damage, but we hated the house so much we were out the door at 10AM and didn't dare come home before 5PM. We weren't going to be coordinating someone to fix damage we didn't do during our vacation. At the end of the day, all we needed was somewhere comfortable to put our feet up or a good night's sleep, but that wasn't even possible with the conditions of the mattresses and the couch and chairs. We love the beauty of this island that we have been visiting for nearly 7 years, but this last trip might be the last for a while.

I needed to spend several hours of our family's summer vacation cleaning the house myself. When we sent through photos/videos of the condition to our Sandpiper rental agent Judy Murray, she agreed that it was unacceptable and that we should look for alternate accommodations, even offering to help. Judy confirmed in writing that "the owner would refund our money." Therefore, we booked last-minute accommodations for the back half of our stay and moved out of the house. Afterwards, we were refunded for 15% of our stay with no explanation. Then, they went radio silent on us. Judy was totally pleasant to us throughout the process, but in the end, she didn't keep her word and didn't take accountability. DO NOT USE SANDPIPER and definitely do not book 19 Navy Way in Edgartown.
