Our Waikoloa Scouts Troop and families went on our annual whale watch on March 8 aboard Sea Smoke with Ocean Sports, and after doing this outing for more than 9 years, I can honestly say this was one of the best trips yet. We had about 30 Scouts and family members join us, and the whales absolutely showed up! We saw pods everywhere, tail slaps, and even a full breach. The highlight was when a humpback surfaced about 10 yards from the boat, giving the kids a once-in-a-lifetime moment. The crew also dropped the hydrophone, allowing everyone to hear the whales singing underwater, which was an incredible learning experience for the Scouts. Moments like that truly connect our youth with the ocean and the amazing wildlife here in Hawaiʻi. Ocean Sports continues to impress us every year. Booking was easy, waivers were handled electronically, check-in was smooth, parking simple, and the hospitality from the crew was outstanding. They were knowledgeable, welcoming, and fantastic with the kids. Loved the experience! The staff was very friendly (at the beach and on a boat). The vessel was clean so we could see everything clearly. Boat crew made sure we encountered every creature possible so they had to "chase" manta for a bit. Pretty good value! Highly recommend! read more

The staff were very very nice and helpful. The trip was peaceful and so beautiful! The ocean was very, very rough! But the staff still kept our drinks coming and with a smile. I was apprehensive about getting on the boats, but it was super easy. You will walk in the water a little bit so I don't recommend long pants or shoes. We wore shorts and flip flops and it was perfect. Loved that they give a Kama'aina discount! We'll go again during whale season! Very enjoyable, relaxing, beautiful experience. read more

This is the BEST snorkel tour we've ever done. Not only did we snorkel in such pristine waters, we got to see many whales, and even experience a little bit of a glass bottom boat. This tour encompasses literally everything one would want to do in Big Island. The staff were top notch, helping everyone where they needed. Another great thing about this was that they had many flotation devices, like pool noodles, floating belts, and boogie boards. The kids had a lot of fun, especially jumping off the boat. The food they provided was delicious and plentiful. I, though, personally loved the snorkel spot a LOT. I cannot thank the crew enough for this enjoyable experience. No Hawaiian vacation is complete without a catamaran / snorkel cruise. Ocean delivered with great off the beach shuttle from our Marriott resort, totally beats driving or getting picked up for a long drive to the dock. The team of three were great! On the outbound we got an earful of information about the fish we would see, even got two juvenile turtle sightings during the outbound and while snorkeling plenty of wild life but a few yards from where we anchored. After the water adventure had a simple hearty lunch and open bar and they put of the sails for our ride back. All in all crew and excursion kept the memories of a must do for every Hawaiian vacation!!! read more

We purchased our tickets on line, perfect. They were calling our names as we checked in at the grass hut, goat! little baby goat..so adorable. (on the beach) Then, came the gameplank.?..anyway, We had plenty of room on the very clean boat. The two guides were very knowledgable and we learned about all the fish we floated over, like, Tangs and were taught- how and why they do not need to be exported anymore!! We agree!! Never export Tang fish! We learned about parrot fish, lots, and Really?!! amazing guides. They provided us photo guide sheets, chldren were excited and I was amazed how smart they were. I pointed out an eel and the driver backed the boat up he got excited too. We saw a sea turtle. It was worth the cost. Thank you guys! Don't worry about getting sick I usually do and nope no motion sickness. Pants may get wet going up the plank but they dry no problems. read more

Absolutely fabulous glass bottom boat tour! Captain Mason and our guide Nolan were absolutely the best! As we glided out to our viewing spot and then floated over the beautiful coral below, our site viewing was extremely clear. The glass bottom boat allows for perfect viewing with a large amount of reef area, and many beautiful fish. We even saw a sea turtle swim by under the glass boat area! We highly recommended this excursion and recommend, as was recommended to us, to book 1st thing in the morning when the waters are super clear. read more

My family took a snorkel tour with Ocean Sports this week and it was amazing. From check in to the end the staff was friendly, professional and helpful. The boat is clean, has snacks and drinks and they staff spends extra time to help everyone. Our tour was lucky, we saw a whale in the far distance and the captain turned the boat towards it and we got a good 10 minutes of watching the whale and her calf swim! The snorkeling experience was great too. The staff helped everyone get in the water, provided all the equipment and pointed out interesting things to see. After the swim they had lunch - wraps, chips and drinks. Overall I highly recommend Ocean Sports and would do another tour! read more

The best ocean tour I've taken on the Big Island... large comfortable catamaran offering indoor covered and outdoor space, leaves from convenient port above west coast hotel area. We saw 4+ pods of whales this March plus also snorkeled in a great area for fish, and turtles; heard dolphin sound nearby. Nice lunch with drinks offered. Knowledgable and friendly crew. Think i'll do this trip yearly when here in spring; worth the price which was reasonable. read more

We went on the glass bottom boat yesterday morning. We had excellent conditions on the 9am trip. Captain and naturalist were knowledgable and friendly. We brought our 10 month old! A big thank you to Ocean Sports for having everything we needed for a super fun day at A-Bay. The day prior to arriving, I was referred by our hotel to give them a call to make beach day arrangements. With that being said, we made arrangements to rent a cabana for our day of fun. When we arrived, our cabana was already set up and ready for us. The cushiony chairs are so comfy, and the little shade thingy gave us just the right amount of coverage when we got hot. First glass bottom boat tour of the day. Absolutely stunning bay. Two wonderful staff members guided us through the reefs and we saw some great fish. Saw a turtle, lots of yellow tang, lots of sea cucumbers and some other fish I can't remember the names. It was a short tour, 30 minutes but because they didn't have another tour right after, they took us out further and it was closer to an hour that we were out in the ocean. I would definitely do it again but maybe we would try one of the other snorkeling excursions. read more
