First of all, I started coming here when I was about 6. I am almost 60 years old. We came here at least once a year until I was about 17. Stopped coming here after the owner died. The place fell in disarray and started going elsewhere. Came back about 5 years ago. The places definitely need some fixing up and they are not worth the price. We should not have a huge pile of poop right off of our back deck. The furniture is uncomfortable and the bed is no better. The memories I have will have to stay that. We will not be back. read more

UNBELIEVABLY COMFORATABLE! Everything you need. Only complaint, directions for finding this wonderful place, indicated right next to Cranberry beach approach. There are TWO named that! We drove around the block five times before stopping and getting directions lol. It is the northern most approach and indeed the cabins are right on the approach. What was supposed to be a day-long road trip resulted in an impromptu stay at the Ocean Spray and man... are we glad that it resulted that way! Diane was a gem from the moment I called the resort to check for vacancy and during our check-in process. My partner and I read the history of the Ocean Spray prior to arriving and wow... we were so happy to support a family business and even more so after experiencing Diane's kind hospitality. Also, let's touch on the fact that the Ocean Spray is literally WALKING distance from the beach -- perfect for sunrises, sunsets, picnics on the beach etc etc. The location definitely makes for a perfect beach getaway. We stayed in cottage #3 with my doggo (a big plus!) and were pleasantly surprised to be in such cozy, homey, and adorable accommodations. The amenities were thoughtful, the cottage was impeccably clean, and we felt right at home. Thank you, Diane, for your pleasant hospitality and such a delightful stay. What a quaint little set of cabins. So clean and such friendly people. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay in Grayland. The cabins are uniquely done in different flair, our was a Hawaiian theme. The cabin met all of our needs, was spotless and very clean. The owner was incredibly friendly, they had a swimming pool set up for the kiddos and a very nice playground for them as well. The cabins are so close to the beach, it was such a pleasant walk to the beach every morning. The sun just filled the air and made the sounds of the surf like music in my ears. The housekeeper was the friendliest gal we have ever met. Easily got us new towels and beach towels at the drop of the hat . We can't wait to come back again. I spent one night at this "Resort". I don't see how it has the rating that is posted. It has a new owner and this place is a dump. As we walked into the "Hawaii" cottage we were immediately assaulted by the smell of mold. As I closed the door it was filthy. The Resort allows dogs and it looks like dogs had pawed the door as it had layers of dirt smug. I can only imagine the dogs were trying to escape the smell. The rug was filthy and as you walk in you are greeted by what is clearly a stain made by a dog urnating on the rug. The reclining chair had a stain I don't even want to consider how it was made. We went to get a blanket or sheet to put over a couch as it was visibly dirty. The blanket had a very strong oder of urine. Perhaps the dog got tired of the rug. I found the smell was less in the bedrooms. unfortunately we were unable to lock a one of the bedroom windows so when we went out to eat we had to load everything back in the car. The beds were lumpy and because the floors are uneven the head of the bed is lower than the foot of the bed. You cannot close one of he bedroom doors for the same reason. I am sure the group of people next door were nice but I have a thing about pitbulls and rotweillers. and 8 people in a small cabin. I am in my mid 60s and prefer a more "resort" like atmosphere. I called the number to complain and the answering service gave me the owners phone number. around 6pm I called and left a message on the owners cell phone that it was unhealthy and we couldn't secure a window. Around 7pm I sent a text and did not hear from the owner until I sent a message the next morning telling her we were leaving. I was sick from smelling the mold and could not secure the house. I got a response later in the morning. She was sorry and didn't get the message until morning. She would come and board up the window. Who doesn't have their cell phone with them? I find it hard to believe she did not have her phone with her until the morning. This place is not what you think it is. It is not near the beach and it is certainly not a resort. If you are in your 60s you are now warned this is not a place you will be comfortable in. read more

First of all, this rating is considering the location of a little tiny town on the Washington Coast and is being compared to the other little places in the same location, not to huge massive chain hotels in the middle of San Francisco. We have stayed at at least 4 different motels in Grayland and Westport over the years and this one is by far the best! The recent remodel moved it to the top of my list and on our next visits, we will definitely be staying here! Our cottage (#3) was freshly painted and adorably decorated with a beach theme. The towels and bedding were freshly laundered which left a homey feel compared to the starchy linens of every other place I've stayed in, ever. The shower made me a little uncomfortable, it seemed a little rickety and the bathroom was tight, so tight that I couldn't do my hair or make up in there. Luckily there was a mirror in the bedroom that worked just fine. The cottage was a little musty but that is to be expected when you're in a damp location. We opened the windows and it seemed to air it out ok. We had a little electric fireplace, small flat screen TV with cable and DVD player, a full kitchen and a little mud/sun room at the front of the cottage which was perfect for drying off our dog. That's the other really nice thing, they allow dogs and were seemingly as excited as we were to be able to bring the Beagle on this trip with us. They had a beautiful, big, friendly kitty that greeted us when we checked in. He was so adroable and sweet. This place is friendly, genuine and attentive. $153 for 2 nights in the middle of winter. Sure beats camping. I highly recommend this little place! read more

This place is great. We've stayed here numerous times and have always enjoyed our stays. The cabins have always been clean, dry and well maintained. I have never seen or smelled mold. Diane is the long term owner and is friendly and greats us warmly. Her cat and two small dogs are very friendly. Rocky, the cat, is one of the reasons we like our stays. In fact we bring cat food for him so he likes to join us in the cabin. There is an outdoor picnic area with barbecues, table, fire pit and fish/clam cleaning area. I highly recommend that you give Ocean Spray a try, you'll want to come back. read more

Wow what a dump. Please stay away. Recently stayed here for 3 nights and my primary complaint is that we did not get the cabin we paid for and reserved on the website. We reserved Cabin 7, we paid for cabin 7, we have stayed there before(pre-covid and pre this place being utilized as apartments for long term rental) and it was nice, had a big table for family games, clean and had what we needed. After trying for two years to stay again, I learned that during covid the cabins were used as apartments which kinda raised some red flags about how the quality had remained. Finally some cabins opened up again and we booked 3 nights in Cabin 7, same as before, but we somehow got jerked around by management who put us in cabin 4, and boy what a mess. Furniture was very uncomfortable, dining room table was too small for family games and very uncomfortable to try and sit at, no windows had screens and ot allowed bugs to enter the cabin as we tried to cool the cabin off after a hot day, the front door did not lock forcing me to use my skills as a maintenance tech to try and fix with no tools. The bathroom smelled horrible and the reason was the toilet needed a new wax ring and lacked water whenever the toilet was flushed, this is a simome maintenance fix of pulling the toilet and replacing the wax ring. The bathroom blinds were missing slats forcing me to hang toilet paper over the window so my family felt safe using the bathroom. The shower had a Brad nail sticking through from some crappy molding job on the opposite side, it could easily be stepped on and cut someone's foot badly. There were so many maintenance issues, whomever is fixing or has tried to fix these cabin should be fired with extreme measures because the person is a certified hack beyond measure. There was little good about this place, it was made worse by the fact that we did not even pay for this cabin, we booked and paid for cabin 7 and got royally messed over. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere, but maybe the other cabins are nice and we just got robbed and put in a crappy cabin, I would love and explanation as to why we did not get the cabin we paid for. read more

This past weekend was our second stay in Cabin #2. It's still wonderful. The only thing I found was that the dish drainboard needed a bit of cleaning. (It would be easy to overlook since it is usually housed under the sink. Not a biggie. I just sprayed it with some cleaner I'd brought.) Otherwise, it was all as great as I remembered. You can tell they've put a lot of work into the cottages. We can see the improvements even from last time. It's clean, cutely decorated, private, easy access to the beach and perfect for a romantic getaway. The price increased a little bit, I think to $89/night-- still a great deal for such a lovely place so close to the beach. Check out Pomegranate, a lovely home/gift store across the street. To know: TV/DVD, full size fridge with freezer, full size 4 burner stove/oven, coffee maker and a small microwave. I like to bring some of my own kitchen things for cooking just because they are familiar (cooking utensils, cutting board, knives, large nonstick skillet with lid and kettle), but they have some basic small pots, skillet and utensils. read more

Yes to Ocean Spray; No to "Beachy Day" (1 star lost because of management company's confusing/contradictory info--see below) While we enjoyed our stay at Ocean Spray Beach Resort, the biggest problem was the complete disaster of a rental management company they have hired. Note: I am not referring to Diane, the on-site manager, who is absolutely wonderful. I am instead referring to a terribly unprofessional operation called "Beachy Day Vacation Rental Managers." Upon booking the room, I received an invoice, and about 8 pages of additional information in a PDF--the most critical parts of which were either incomplete or incorrect. First, the resort's business hours were listed as being until 8pm PST, every day. When I called the number listed in the PDF at 7:10pm, the voicemail system told me the hours were until *9pm* PST, every day, but there was no answer. I left messages. Later, I found out that the resort's office actually closes at 7pm, not 8 or 9pm. Next, the PDF and invoice specified a check-in time of 5pm. I later learned that check-in was 3pm. The PDF also included elaborate instructions on how to find the keys to the cottage in a lockbox next to the door, which one opens "by typing in the access code indicated on page one" of the PDF. I checked Page 1. No access code. Nor on any other page. This is what prompted my 7:10pm call, the night before my check-in day. I later learned that one checks in to the office and receives keys, just like any other normal resort. Why Beachy Day got all of this information wrong is beyond my comprehension. But there's more! The documents I received stated that pets were not allowed, but I later found out that dogs are welcome. I was also charged an extra $50 "cleaning fee" in addition to the posted rental rate. I later discovered that this is not regular policy for the resort. I could have saved $50 of a $165 charge if I had called the resort office directly. Oh, and just to add one more straw to the camel: the word "refrigerator" was consistently misspelled throughout the document. Ever heard of spell check, folks? Very sloppy. All in all, then, this "Beachy Day" outfit is bad news, and they badly misrepresented the policies of Ocean Spray Resort, making the whole experience confusing and a bit stressful. My understanding is that the resort made the mistake of signing a contract with that company, and they are stuck with them for at least several more months. In the meantime, I suggest avoiding the apparently incompetent "Beachy Day" operation and contacting Diane, the on-site manager, directly to make your reservations. You'll get correct information and won't get hit with the bogus "cleaning fee," which I suspect the "Beachy Day" people just added on and pocketed. My husband and I stayed in cabin #1 last night and it was delightful. Loved the fireplace and it was so cozy, clean and lovely! Had a great visit with the owners and we definitely want to go back and stay there again, only for longer next time. Another Great Stay with Diane at Ocean Spray Beach Resort We have stayed here 4 times since they opened 9 years ago. We first stopped by after we got rained out at the Grayland Beach State Park. The cabins weren't ready but were undergoing extensive repairs. We were there the next year, We have our favorite cabins. Diane is the best hostess. Her staff are very friendly too. It's like staying with a dear friend. Our cabins have always been clean and ready for us. I don't know where the previous reviewer (traveler Michael) stayed. I have never had any issues with mold. These are beach cabins. This is not the Sheraton. Do not stay here if you are expecting a 5 star hotel in a major city with impersonal service and attention. We have visited 3 times in August and once in October. Whenever Diane is off-site she lets us know or leaves a note on the office door. Yesterday we could not get the closed captioning off on the TV and she came right away and fixed it for us. All the cabins are themed and decorated by Diane. It's like a home away from home only better. I highly recommend the Ocean Spray Beach Resort. Also, there are two canine hosts Bailey and Sandy Beaches and one feline host Rocky Beaches. Rocky goes above and beyond to make you feel at home. The kitchens are well equipped with coffee beans, grinder, coffee maker, toaster, salt, pepper and various spices, a variety of pots, pans, utensils and silverware. Tons of fresh towels too. Extensive DVD collection to borrow for free. The beach is a short drive (1 minute) or a (7 minute walk) which is an added bonus. It's a great way to unwind. If you want a homey, friendly atmosphere and great customer service, this is the place for you. read more

Wonderful place to stay! My parents used to bring me and my brothers as children, and my mother's family came when she was little. The cabins are small, but functional. We stayed at the Ocean Spray Motel for 4 days in September. The owners and staff were very friendly. The cottages were cute and clean, each individually decorated and very reasonably priced. We enjoyed the barbecue area with the fire pit and it was a very short easy walk down a access road to the beach. We brought the dog, they are very dog friendly. read more

YOU NEED TO TRY THIS ONE!! We have been going to Westport/Grayland area for 50 years and when we needed to find a new place to stay we were told the Ocean Spray had new owners and they had completely redone what used to be an "old cabins". *** 0h My Gosh!! Did they every redo it! *** We just got back from our second vacation at the Ocean Spray and have already booked for next year. The cabins are darling and each is decorated differently and with real charm. They have flat screen TV, DVD players and DVD's in the office and I think WIFI if you need it but I can't think why you would. The owners, Diane and Gary are wonderful and so accommadating. They go over and above what anyone would expect from owners and make us feel so welcome. Unlike big hotels we get 2 bedrooms, nice living room, fully supplied eat in kitchen, and bath for the price of a mid to lower cost one room motel unit and it is only about a hundred yards or so from the Pacific Ocean (you can hear it at night with your window open). Last week our family had a reunion in Grayland and we had 20 people staying at the Ocean Spray...it was wonderful, wonderful, wonderful...........and they take dogs!!
