A hidden gem to get random things for less! They have a huge section for pets: mainly dogs & birds. Also SO many snacks, beverages, seasonings and outdoor items. I didn't expect so many items and so much variety of things from snow boots, clothing, dry pasta, hygiene items, chips, home goods... you name it. Name brand items at that! Went to this Job Lot since I was in the Johnston area. This one has a nice large parking lot and a very nice facade. The inside is also bright and roomy. went to get some spices and some cleaning products for my car. You really can't beat their prices. The "customer service" people tend to be very unpleasant - think "please don't ask us to help you". They disappear on you and never return, which is so weird. It is often difficult to find things, and they will give you incorrect answers to get you to give up on the item you went in for. I got 4 different wrong replies on my last visit. It was a big waste of time and aggravation, and they DID have the item (they said they don't carry it and alternately that I have to order online - which I previously checked and is not possible). I had done my research before going to the store, because I expect these issues. I usually leave feeling like they did everything in their power to get me to leave them alone and not buy the item. One cashier (with the nut allergy sign) is *extremely* nice and helpful! She's a gem and I wish the other staff members were like her. read more

I had already caught a glimpse of unpleasantness before I asked if my gift card had a balance, she said " it's on the receipt". As I was struggling to find it on the receipt. Went in at 6:55 to grab some pool chemicals and was greeted by the rudest person at the front desk telling is we had 5 min to shop. Prior to going I checked the website and it stated the store closed at 8pm. I would never have went into a store 5 min before closing. I informed her that the website states 8pm she repeats 5min to shop. She does not belong working in customer service! As we were walking out I witness her rudeness with yet another customer! I can sum Ocean State Job Lot in one statement: I can buy a 100 ounce bottle of extra virgin olive oil for ten bucks. Need I say anything more? I can also buy Manner wafers en bulk here for $3 a box which I normally pay more for when I'm in Germany or Austria. Here I'll buy ten boxes and bring them to my office to share with my staff or patients. I can also buy scented candles for 5-6 dollars rather than spending $20 elsewhere. Some spices for food, toiletries when I travel, odd's and ends for the garden or holidays. It never disappoints me when I'm there, and usually if I go looking for one item, I'll leave with multiple items I didn't even intend on buying. Prices are phenomenal, the staff are friendly and always willing to help. The inside can be a mess or not the tidiest but, when I'm here I'll always give them a pass. read more

Well this luggage didn't make it through the first leg of my trip. It was the worst piece of luggage I have ever purchased. No one from the company returned my texts. I love this Job Lot, and visit almost every time that I'm home. The weekly coupon section is almost always stocked, and the cosmetics aisle is any nail polish junky's (aka me) dream! The seasonal aisle always has something I didn't need but couldn't live without, and the food section has a great variety of things! The employees are all very nice; though they're always collecting money for some charity, and I'm a sucker and can never say no. This is the nicest Job Lot I've ever set foot in. It is huge, occupying the left two-thirds of what used to be a Shaw's supermarket (a Planet Fitness gym occupies the right one-third of the building). There is tons of parking, and a traffic light at the main entrance to the parking lot. The store is well-organized and is the cleanest Job Lot I've ever seen. And the deals ... lemme tell you! I needed a new, retractable leash for my dog. Yesterday, I visited PetSmart, and they wanted about $40-$45 for one! I tried Tractor Supply, and theirs were $40 - no way, Jose. Then, I figured I'd try Job Lot, and whaddaya know, theirs was ... wait for it ... only $9.99! I had no trouble finding a sales associate to direct me to the pet section, and the associate was polite and helpful. The cashier was pleasant also. read more

I purchased a fire pit @ this store less than a year ago. I recently went in and spoke to the front desk and told the employee that it was falling apart and I couldn't find my receipt he told me to purchase a new one and bring the old one back. I did exactly what he told me and they would not take the fire pit back. I basically bought the same fire pit twice. This is the mecca of Ocean State Job Lots. I love me some Job Lot. You can find the most random of things....but I buy all my gardening tools and seeds here. They sell Burpee seeds and they are always on sale at the beginning of the season. We also bought our patio set....the chairs are the most comfortable that I've ever sat in. And the price for a table and 6 chairs was HALF of what it was for sets at Home Depot, Lowes and Benny's. The location is an old supermarket. It is GIANT. It is clean and well organized. It is not as crowded as other locations can be. I will go back again and again. read more

I *heart* Ocean State Job Lot. It's the local answer to Walmart- they have tons of seasonal items and lots of random things I need for super cheap. Spices, bakeware, housewares, toys, etc. On my last trip, I scored a bunch of stocking stuffers for kids, a few office supplies, and disposable pie plates (for holiday baking) for well under $40! Wow. Talk about as good as an Ocean State Job Lot can get. This is the place to go, folks. I promise you will not be disappointed. I'd driven past the "Job Lot" sign several times but figured it was just another small, dumpy spot and didn't think twice about pulling into the parking lot... until yesterday. I was on Atwood Ave., and I took a left into the parking lot. I was shocked at the size of the lot. Then I remembered, this used to be a Shaw's Supermarket. This Job Lot is going to be huge inside; guess what, it is! I was in shock when I stepped inside this Mecca of a store. Isles and shelves and rows of underpriced goodies up for grabs. I saw a lot of the usual stock I see at other Ocean State Job Lot locations, plus more! I spent a good hour just walking around each and every corner of the store to make sure I didn't miss anything. This is definitely my "go to" Job Lot from now on. No doubt about it. I can't believe it took me since October of 2011 to figure out this place even existed - shame on me. read more

I was really bummed out when the Scituate location closed down to make way for the Johnston location, but now I must say that I am SO GLAD. This location is HUUUGGEEE. It is about the size of the OSJL in Brooklyn, CT and Wakefield, RI. It is always clean, and has Bob's Red Mill AT ALL TIMES and cheaper than the Stop and Shop down the road. I can often find gluten free cookies and snacks too, which is great. They are also good for staple foods like rice. The clothing selection (I often buy my hosiery here for work) is large, and the store is really organized. I try to come at least every other week to see what's new. The only reason why this location is NOT getting 5 stars is because they often don't have enough cashiers, which can be annoying. I often have to wait 5 minutes or so to cash out, even when it seems slow. read more

Job lot is a necessary evil. They have all those odds a ends at close out prices. Typically I buy things I am not 100% concerned or dead set on a brand with here. Towels, scales, kitchen utensils, condiments, and snacks are usually in my basket at job lot. Job lot is good in my book because they always have inexpensive coconut oil, maple vile farms salad dressings and bobs red mill grains an mixes. They also have fantastic deals on polar seltzer and sodas, but I can't commit to a whole flat of them and normally want more than a six pack. Why only 3 stars? It's messy, it's sort of crowded, and it's hit or miss. Sometimes I make the mistake of coming here on a mission and that has probably brought it down a notch. read more

I'm a fan of OSJL in general...even when the stores are a mess/in an inconvenient location, you still find great products at awesome prices. This location is by far the biggest, brightest, cleanest, most organized one I've been to. The aisles are a bit tight, which makes it difficult to navigate with the carts, but that's a small price to pay for aisles chock-full of goodies. I love this store, and the staff is incredibly nice. The store is always immaculate, and the deals are great. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Great home goods, like drapes, high thread count cotton sheet sets, rugs, kitchen items, even great dresses and high end clothing at times. I've bought a few dresses, jackets, etc., and received So many compliments on them. Also, school/office supplies are deeply discounted (great for teachers and students alike). Really nice quality sweatshirts etc in cotton for half the price of other stores. Definitely worth stopping in! Warning...you can spend a lot of time here wandering and looking. I really like OSJL and this is a good one. It is a bit larger than others I have been in, so they have a great selection, especially of the food stuffs. It does feel a bit on the dis organized side at times, but if you can live with that, then you will be pleasantly surprised. read more

By far the best of all the locations as far as size and availability of items. It's really quite large and they carry most everything you can think of from Olive Oil, to pet beds, to garden beds.
