This particular Job Lot Is filled with good quality items! I went today hoping to find the aluminum containers with clear lids that I like to fill with cookies as gifts. Unfortunately they are experiencing the supply chain shortage of 2021 & their selection was incomplete. I did buy pecans & walnuts, a couple of bird feeding supplies, nice wool socks (great place for those). I also bought tape and gift bags, and a few packets of flower seeds. I have to think most people are familiar with these stores, so I won't go into describing everything inside. This is a nice & clean store with friendly staff. I wish the music was kept on a much lower volume setting. read more

My name is Dan, and I'm an Ocean State Job Lot addict. It has become one of my guilty pleasures. It all started back in the Winter of 2007 when I was layed off by my employer and I started six months of unemployment until I found a really great job. During those lean months, I started to frequent the Canton OSJL, the one closest to my home. It was a nice way to kill time and not spend a lot of money. How do you describe what they sell in OSJL? Short answer is they sell everything- clothes, food, hardware, housewares, health and beauty aids, toys for the kids- just about everything. These are not the smoke damaged seconds you'll find in Building 19- this is first quality new merchandise. They have a nice feature that saves you even more money -their Internet Coupons. Every week they feature about 20 coupons for deeper savings on all kinds of stuff- you have to go on their website and print them off. Every store has a dedicated section for the Internet Coupon specials. The Southwick location is one of OSJL's nicer locations, ranking in my book second only to Canton, and easily ahead of the adequate Bloomfield, slovenly Windsor, and horrendous Berlin stores. In Southwick, the shelves are well stocked, the store is neat, the signage is easy to read, the variety is stellar, the service is attentive and the prices are of course very good. I get a particular kick out of seeing OSJL staples such as Paul Sorvino pasta, Red Mill grains, and Peanut Butter & Company flavored peanut butter sold in fancy gourmet stores for 3 or 4X their OSJL price. If you like Salsa, try their Brad's salsa- its one of the best I have had for just about $2 or so. I also get their Polar Orange Dry Diet Soda 6-packs for an embarassingly low $1.65. read more

We go to this Ocean State a few times a month. The employees are beyond friendly and so helpful! We think it's the cleanest and tidiest Ocean State we have had the pleasure of shopping at! They always seem to be open whenever we need to go - even late enough on Sundays. Love this place! read more

There are plenty of places to shop - and given the times - if this store is going to require masks but not enforce it- I will stay away. Several patrons not wearing masks - no staff doing anything about it until I asked them about it and then they apologized. Ample staff to address but no enforcement. Stay safe and stay away from this store. read more

This new policy of adding a 2% charge to prices is deceptive and very misleading. Yes, if you read the fine print it says you can decline to pay it, but that shames the customer into paying it or risking embarrassment. If you want to pay your workers more, put the 2% in the product prices. Don't advertise artificially low prices and add a surcharge at the register. That's a sneaky game you're playing. read more

I love me some Ocean State Job Lot. They have always been a great value, and have actually gotten better in the past few years. They've started carrying pricier items, such as generators and heaters. How good are their prices? A buddy of mine used to work at a hardware store that bought their wheelbarrows from Ocean State because they were cheaper here than from their distributor. Yup. I come here often for the dog toys and treats. When my dog is just going to destroy the thing in a few days time, I'd much rather pay $2 or $3 than the $10 or $15 you'd pay for the same thing at a pet store. They also have quite a bit of stuff for around the home. Candles, kitchen utensils, cleaning supplies. It's all priced great. Their food section is decent. The spices are typically great quality, but make sure to check the label. Their curry powder and other blended spices have MSG. Also, double check food prices at a grocery store. I have seen plenty of stuff here that is more expensive than at the store next door. Still, there are plenty of values to be had. Ocean State Job Lot has many great values. Job Lot has been the only store I was able to find Lysol wipes a month ago (all the other stores were out at the time) & currently, angel hair pasta, a decent sized olive oil, & an herbal blended alcohol spray for hands (yesterday). On top of that, they are giving away free either a table cloth material (that ='s 11 or 12 masked) or 5 separate pieces, maybe they were cloth table mats (that equal making 10 masks). I'm glad to see they have strong safety measures in place (3 -4' plexi glass at registers, cleaning scanner area between orders, etc) & the cashier came out to alert people to stick "to the tape" guides for distance. My store in RI had signs everywhere about the 2% increase to help pay the employees $2 more per hr. Signs were every 2'-3' on each aisle. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to fig 2% added to your total or decide if you really need the item at this time with the surcharge, or want to wait to buy later. I thanked the employee ringing me up, & said I thought most people would appreciate what he was doing & Job Lot could probably do 5% so the employees got more then $2/hr more (for putting their lives at risk mingling w/ all these people in an enclosed space...come on). He said, "no, so many people are complaining about the 2% already". Where is appreciation? Now I see Jon L's review w/ the same complaint. Really, you think employees should go through EVERY item in the store & change every sticker/front price point to mark it up 2%? How long will that take while your waiting for them to unload deliveries, waiting to be rung up by less employees, etc? COVID 19 is bringing out the best & the worst in people. I just wish those nasty ones would just stop, breath, appreciate, & be thankful. read more

I had not been in the Southwick store for a long-time & it is getting very run down - some canned good were very dented & items were dirty! I bought 2 boxes of crackers & took one bite today & noticed how stale they were - Bought on 3/4/19 - they are dated December 2018!! Tasted awful & they are going back tomorrow! I think I will stick with the Westfield Job Lot from now on. Sorry to say this store is in bad shape! read more

OSJL basically buys up odd lots of merchandise, and sells them at a discount. They have some things all the time- and a lot of stuff that they may have once, and never have again. You never know what you're going to find there. I get my Olive Oil there- they always have the best price for that. Some other staples are also worth getting regularly. There is a great place in Agawam, called Building 501, near Dave's Pet Food and Soda store, that is family run- and similar, I go to both places, to see what new stuff they have. In a chain store, I know exactly what I'm going to find. Which is good. At OSJL, I don't know what I'm going to find. They have the most incredible deals. They had sweatshirts on 100% coupon- that is, you paid for them- and they gave you a gift card, for 100% of what you paid, that you can spend on other stuff at least 24 hours later. How can you beat a deal like that? I buy clothing there to donate to homeless shelters, on deals like that. They had military combat boots there at less than half of retail, for a time. I bought some for me and family. Years ago, I had to go up Route 5 in West Springfield, to one; now they are closer. This store used to be an Ames, which I miss, but this store has really good staff, too, always helpful, from the part-time college students to the regulars. They get unusual stuff, from time to time, also, and they're always running deals. My parents love this store; they remember stores like this when they were young, mostly sole proprietor back then. I drop over $110/week there, for good deals, and am happy to do so. read more
