Whether you're experienced or just beginning, this place always has a welcoming vibe and really lives that community ethos that CrossFit promotes. Marcus (head coach) looks out for his athletes and knows when to push his athletes or when to pull back to teach. He tailors his coaching to the individual's needs and takes his time so you don't feel rushed. The gym is spacious, clean, and organized. There's enough barbells and weights to go around. After a year of individualized programming and just 5 months of macro coaching with Marcus, I'm leaner, fitter, and healthier than I ever was while playing collegiate basketball, training hours per day. Never stepped foot in a box before I came here. I was a go to the Crossfit main site for a Crossfit workout of the day and YouTube any movements that I didn't know how to do type of guy. I liked doing my workouts at my convenience and in my garage. That type of mindset was okay at first, but once I started to seriously get into Crossfit, I noticed that no video on YouTube was able to provide me coaching on proper techniques and movements. I quite frankly didn't want to develop bad habits and techniques that would cause damage and injury to my body later in life. I registered for the crossfit open just for my own experience. When 16.1 was announced, it had lunges as one of the events. I didn't have room in my driveway nor did I want to measure out the distance in my backyard. So off I went to look for a box to do this workout at. Inveniam was the only box that picked up the phone when I called around. It was Saturday morning and they were doing 16.1. I asked if I could come by and be judged for it and Marcus, the owner and head coach, without hesitation said come on down we got another heat starting in one hour that you can join in and do. On the way there, I was nervous and was wondering what the hell was I thinking of going there since I thought I was going to look weak by comparison to everyone else. As soon as I entered, I wasn't mobbed by anyone nor was I ignored. I was in awe and intimidated by my first box visit. I think it was obvious by the look on my face that this was my first time in a box. Less than 10 seconds later, Marcus came up and introduced himself. Very friendly, respectful and directly answered all of my questions. He surprisingly ran me through a quick warmup, went over the events and I started 16.1. 16.1 broke me off. Those were the longest 20 minutes ever. When the timer reached zero, I laid flat on my back gasping for air. Boss, Marcus's dog and the box's mascot came over to me and put his face close to mine without touching it. I thought I was going to be attacked by Boss like Leonardo DiCaprio got destroyed by the bear in the movie The Revenant. At that point, I had no energy to move a finger and accepted my fate of being a chew toy. Instead I noticed he checked to see if I was breathing and once he determined I was alive, he trotted back to Marcus and gave him the look of don't worry he's not dead, he'll be alright lol. I was hooked. I had to leave the next few weeks out of the area on business for a month so I wasn't able to sign up that month. Because of the great initial experience I had at Inveniam, I joined a box at my business trip location to get started. As soon as I came back, I went to Inveniam and signed up to continue the momentum. Facility is awesome. Great variety of workout equipment. Very well cleaned and maintained. I'm allergic to dogs and have had no issues with Boss. That is how clean it is there. I can actually pet him and he is not one of those dogs that jumps on you when you come in. He just chills and relaxes and stays out of the way during workouts. There are shower facilities to use in case you are trying to save time and go to back to work, home, school or date. Marcus is very knowledgeable and a great coach. His workouts are very challenging and he is very good about teaching and enforcing proper technique. There are no egos there at all. Everyone cheers and encourages everyone regardless of background or fitness levels. The schedule for the daily classes are great for any type of schedule. Very military friendly. If you call or send a message or email, be prepared for someone to answer the phone or get a quick response back to your electronic correspondence almost immediately. Great price for membership. The location is close to JBLM and from onpost it takes 10-15 min to get there so it is real convenient. I love how when you sign up you get an online account and access to their phone app where you can reserve the class time you are coming to, check to see the workout of the day and post your performance from the workouts. This gym has been my introduction to CrossFit, that being said it has been a great experience to learn through a coaching staff that takes the time to make sure you get it right. I have to say after going through a few Crossfit style gyms, I have finally found a place that ignites my passion for lifting. After having a horrible experience, I had almost lost my passion, which is a big deal to me. After training with the lead coach in this gym I signed up right away. He's knowledgeable in multiple levels through many different fitness related subjects. hes attentive and very professional.
