I went here for blepheritis - Dr told me to use baby shampoo on my eyelid w/a q-tip - that lasted 2 weeks. I went back to cleaning my lids really well & continued using visine. I guess there's no medicine to clear it up. But, my score is as a spectator of the following, who may/may not return: I drove someone here for dilation. I was told to inquire about an upgraded procedure that costs $30 extra-well worth it. I asked the front-desk staff, she told me to ask the treating staff. I told her I was asking her, so we could find out the fees & pay for it. She was useless & made no attempt to find out. Registration - all pts are sent to the kiosk. I did it for the patient. We waited about 20 minutes then were called in. I stayed in the lobby for the show! In walks a patient (most were elderly); she was w/someone, who helped her at the kiosk. Had they bit their tongue, I might've offered to help - but I didn't want their smoke . This woman let them have it so well - the fact that they wouldn't bill her the copayment, she couldn't register at the kiosk w/o help, she said she's there because she can't see! I mean, the front desk was useless & the lead or mgr justified their laziness. She showed no care for the patient. Hopefully they fix their issues. You should be extra gentle with the elder community. And more helpful when it comes to using the advanced technology. The staff at the front desk should be ashamed. read more

This place is terrible. Why is it so hard to get someone on the phone and get an appt. OCLI, I called a competitor, got someone on the phone the first time I tried, and had an appt within the week. Why can't you do that in your offices? I actually like one of your Dr's but refuse to go see him bc it's so hard to get anyone on the phone or get an appt. You need to try and do better. read more

I previously was a patient of Dr. John Wittpen for over 35 years, since retired, who was excellent. I am now a patient of Dr. Vacarro who will be doing my cataract surgery. My pre-surgical appointment was comprehensive and she and her assistant were patient,, answering all my questions. While I still have anxiety about the surgery, as my eyesight is at stake, I believe I am with a highly competent ophthalmologist who has increased my confidence about my upcoming surgery. They don't answer the phone and they have a phone system that goes around in circles and goes nowhere. As soon as they get your insurance, they bill you and if you have to contact them they don't answer the phone. What a shame that people have to put up with this when they are ill or need medical attention. I won't go there anymore or ever recommend OCLI to my friends or family and anyone who recommended that I go here is losing my business also. Total sham. Very very unprofessional. read more

My wife and I have been patients with OCLI Garden City and Patchogue for years and have been extremely happy being cared for by Dr. Hufnagel. Recently we visited OCLI Port Jeff and were seen by Dr. Chubach because Dr. Hufnagel was unavailable and we needed our annual exam before we left town for the winter. To say we were disappointed is an understatement. Dr. Chubach treated us like we were on an assembly line and he even said to me "I don't look at names, I look at the data", but he examined me in two minutes and less than a minute for my wife. We were then both ushered out the door. We spent more time with the techs who were pleasant and accomplished than with the Dr. We will never visit this office again and we will share our terrible experiences with others. read more

I arrived 10 minutes early to a filled waiting room for a 2:15 appointment.At 3:00 o'clock I was still waiting and saw people before me there that were still waiting. I told the desk person I had to leave. I am now looking for another eye clinic. I was previously a patient and was happy with my cataract surgery performed by Dr John Wittpen, now retired. This is by far the worst managed office compare to the other offices, if you want to make an appointment you have to drive because no one will ever answer the phone! You leave a message no one will ever get back to you! If they ever leave you a message you could try to reach them at least 10 times with no result! You drive all the way ti your appointment to find out the office is closed! Use their practice in other locations but not Port Jefferson one! read more

OCLI violates FTC Prescription Rules! I paid for and received an eye exam at OCLI PJ. on the way out I asked for a copy of my Prescription. The Desk Staff there said there would be an additional charge of $50 for a copy of my Prescription. there's also a sign posted saying this. THIS IS IN VIOLATION of the linked FTC regulation that states: "You can't require patients to pay an extra fee, or buy eyeglasses or contact lenses, in exchange for the prescription." If you want to go to a factory type of an eye examination, OCLI is the place to go. An incorrect prescription was given to me for new eyeglasses. Using this prescription, I could not see clearly. After four(4) calls to their office, I finally spoke to someone who did not apologize nor accept any responsibility for the error. Goodbye OCLI, never again. read more

I just came from an appointment at their Setauket office (there is also an office in Port Jeff) & upon entering I noted there was no one in the waiting area, as the office is usually quite busy. There are kiosks lining a wall, despite having people sitting at the desks. I know the routine as I have been going OCLI for about 10+ years. Each time you go, even if it is multiple times a year, you must enter your drivers license & insurance cards info, even if nothing has changed. I was about 10 min. late as I mistakingly turned into another of the multiple parking complexes & had to make my way back. After completing my info at the kiosk, I took a seat. Shortly 5-6 people entered separately (not one went to the kiosk) & gave their name. After approx 20 min or so it became apparent that all but me had been called in. I went up to the desk & mentioned this & was told they all had earlier appointments than me. I said that's odd, then that would mean they were all late, because they all came after me! It soon became apparent that I was being penalized for being late. As I have a serious medical eye condition that must be followed, I dare not leave. All in all I was there over 2 hours for an eye exam. I inquired & was told the office manager name is Stacy, who obviously allows these people at the desk & elsewhere during the process to treat their patients like this. I am sure whomever owns the practice would not be happy to know this, as the bottom line is, it still is a business! I do not recommend them, find another eye dr. who appreciates their patients & doesn't allow their staff to run ramshackle over their practice & their paying clients! read more

So far so good. They definitely know what they are doing here. The wait was fast , very organized and the staff is friendly. Social distance and cleaning between patients is enforced. Dr Oats has a great personality and a wealth of knowledge. read more

As one reviewer stated, I believe I was double-dosed for eye dilation. Still can't see 10 hours later. I am not denying doctor knows what she is doing, but I also chose an office for the friendliness/kindness of the staff. Well, not at OCLI at PJ. Only 1 lovely lady who first took me to the back. Other than that, I viewed the back of so many heads, I'd never to be able to tell you what they looked like. No-one smiled, no-one said have a nice day. They may not realize it, and shame on them, but well-care to me means all around. Treat me like I am a human being please, not just a body in a seat waiting to be shuffled to another room. One star for staff and doctor friendliness. As to medical care, can only hope I am being treated well and so far so good on that. Try to do better please read more

I had an appointment with a Dr at this vision center for the first time and it was a very pleasant experience. I was very nervous and the dr. and staff made me very comfortable. I would recommend this vision office to anyone. There was no long waiting I was called in 5 minutes after I arrived. read more

Facility is dirty (and it was certainly the first medical facility I've been in which had no soap in the restroom...) Everybody in the waiting room seemed to be annoyed due to the wait time. The waiting room was PACKED and they had clearly overbooked. (And who likes sitting in a crowded waiting room in the era of Covid?) I overheard multiple people walking out saying "two hours is ridiculous". There was even a sign in the waiting room asking for patience, so this wait obviously happens all the time. I waited for 30 mins (which, whatever. Places are busy), then an employee took me to the exam room and did a basic exam. She then tried to bring me to another waiting room and said it would be another half hour before I would have my time with the MD because there's three patients in line ahead of me. I then left the facility because I had already taken time off work for the appointment and I couldn't afford to miss any more. The staff are nice, but you really can't disrespect people's time like this. Large scale medical companies like this tend to overbook so that they can bill as many insurance companies as possible in a day. read more

OCLI in PJ is always overbooked. Your average waiting time is 2.5 hours, and sometimes you're there for even 3 or more hours. The second waiting room is always packed. Everyone there resents the wait time. It's obvious that top administrators are awfully inconsiderate and don't think patients' time is as important as their time. This is a huge problem. Also, the medical assistants see you in a tiny space in the hallway. You see them slouching toward the eye equipment because there is no space to have their own chair. It's sad to see them working in such uncomfortable and unpleasant conditions. I think doctors there should speak up on behalf of their patients and medical assistants. read more

I do not typically post reviews, but this one is well deserved. Very disappointed in service. I have been in several times now for vision checks and eye lid issues. I got sent around to other partners at OCLI for further care, only to have the next Dr. totally contradict what the Dr. before said. What a waste of my time and money. The final straw was eye appointment where they gave me a double dose of eye dilation. I could not see clearly for over a day afterwards. On top of that they gave me the wrong prescription, so when my new glasses were made, they totally screwed up. Now six weeks later and i still have no new glasses i can use. What a bunch of yutzes! Never seen so much incompetence in one location before by a supposed group of professionals. Don't waste your time on OCLI. read more
