We missed our ferry to Cedar Island and had to get a motel on a whim. All I can say this place is a hidden gem. Very nice people and very clean place rite on the water. Would definitely stay here again.

Nice Inn but the staff was Snooty! My wife and I recently visited the Ocracoke Inn for the conclusion of a 2 week driving vacation around the Southeast. I looked on both Yelp and Trip Advisor and decided the Ocracoke Harbor Inn would be the best place to finish the vacation on a good note. Shortly before our arrival I called the Inn and updated them of my later arrival as I was coming in on the Cedar Island ferry. The slender older lady at the desk that evening appreciated the update and suggested the Dajio as a good place to eat given the later arrival time. After check-in I found the accommodations to be great and the restaurant suggestion to be excellent. In the morning breakfast was your average bagels, coffee, cereal, juice, milk, fruit and granola. Everything was GREAT up until the time when I preceded to check out, that the younger lady had a snooty attitude with me. I didn't think much of it and asked if I could checkout two bikes for the "half-day" rental. My wife and I had decided the bike were the best choice for transiting the island and found the we were able to visit all the stores in the area in that 4 hour time span. It was the highlight of our short overnight stay on the island and made for a great day, minus all the heat.LoL Nearing the end of our rental time I promptly returned the bikes back to the Inn and it looked as if the younger lady had left and this time it was a different older lady. She thanked me for returning them and then I briefly I asked about the Island's Ghost Tour if they knew anything about it and I received yet another snooty attitude, she stated that she wasn't into that sort of stuff nor cared about it. Talk about a "debbie-downer!" As I walked out of the office and said, thank-you and my wife commented to me about the attitude of the Staff and how rude they seemed. Atleast I wasn't the only one to notice, I know its Inn and not a Bed and Breakfast, but they way everything was setup sure felt like it was. But then again out of all the B&B's we've stayed at I've never had any of the innkeepers be rude with guests. **Overall, I was excited about the Inn but now I have mixed feelings about staying again after dealing with the staff. I would be willing to try, but Im not sure if I would recommend then to others as the old lady said she didn't care about a question that I had about things to do one the Island what if it's the same for others? Cheers!

Location is excellent, price is very good. Continental breakfast is included. Free Wi-Fi for guests. Sanitation score was 100.0! And it is absolutely accurate!

Came to enjoy an off season weekend of fun and get in some beach time before the weather turns cold. The room was nice and we had a time.

We ended up at Captain's Landing more or less by accident (at the last minute we decided to take…read morethe Cedar Island-Ocracoke ferry instead of driving via Manteo to Hatteras Island, and this was the only hotel we found with room -- most hotels on Ocracoke close in winter, and one that was open, Pony Island, didn't answer its phone or return our calls.) A helpful person at NC Ferries gave us the tip on Captain's Landings. We're so glad we did! We got the next to last room available at this inn, and probably on the island, a one-bedroom, one and a half bath suite for just $110. Rates in summer rise to $280, but there's a discount for weekly stays, and I would guess that this place stays fully booked much of the time. The inn, painted a light yellow and patterned after another, long-gone hotel on the island, the Ponzer Hotel, is owned by a ninth generation Ocracoker, Betty Chamberlin, and her husband. It is perched right on Silver Lake (the Ocracoke harbor) in the heart of the village, within walking or biking distance to just about everything, including one of the best and most pristine stretches of Hatteras National Seashore beach on the entire Outer Banks. In a Frommer's guidebook I wrote to the coast of the Carolinas and Georgia years ago, I rated this 14 miles of Ocracoke beach the best beach in the three states. In my view, it still is. You're also just a short bike or hike away from the lighthouse and the shops and restaurants in and around the village. Although they are closed in winter, you'll probably find as most do that the Flying Melon and the Back Porch are the two top restaurants on the island, and that Howard's Pub is a great watering hole. On this visit, we ate at Jason's for dinner -- it has good, fresh seafood and probably the best pizza anywhere around. The views across the harbor, including the Ocracoke Lighthouse, are wonderful. Our first-floor suite had everything we needed -- fully equipped kitchen, a balcony overlooking the inn's 10 boat slips and the water, a pleasant living room with a large flat screen TV with DirecTV and DVD player, and a comfortable bedroom with a quality queen bed. There's free Wi-Fi. The manager is very friendly and helpful, and she gave us good advice on the three restaurants that are open for dinner this time of year. We've visited Ocracoke many times during annual stays at Avon or Rodanthe on Hatteras Island, but I have only stayed overnight on the island only a couple of times. This visit, in late February, we lucked out on the weather. It can be surprisingly cold on the OBX in winter, but this time it was sunny and around 70 degrees in the day, perfect springlike weather. Ocracoke is one of the jewels of the North Carolina coast, and in our book Captain's Landing is the top place to stay on Ocracoke.

For a last-minute, impromptu trip we were able to book a room with them for the night. We had 4 adults and one infant and they were one of the only places we could find last minute that would fit all of us. Their apartments were perfect! We stayed in Apt H and it had 2 rooms, 2 bathrooms and a FULL KITCHEN! This is great for folks who want to make any meals at home and save some $$ on their trip. The rooms were SO MUCH NICER than we had thought they were and I was really surprised at how cute they were decorated (with modern furniture). One of my favorite things about this hotel (aside from the fact that it's owner/operator were BORN on the island!) is the "Game Room". What a great, safe, fun spot for older kids and young teens to hang out. I spent summers on this island and that Game Room would have been AMAZING for me and my siblings when we were there. On top of that, you can rent bikes and golf carts from the hotel at much cheaper prices than any other rental place. They even have baby seats and helmets for kids and infants. The staff was also incredible. They were kind, friendly, helpful, hospitable and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was great. If I ever need a night or two in Ocracoke, I'm coming here!

Beware: We Paid for a Deluxe King Suite but Were Given a Standard Queen Room…read more I booked a Deluxe King Suite through Booking.com and immediately received a confirmation message directly from Blackbeard's Lodge asking whether I would be bringing a pet. I confirmed that I would and was informed of the additional pet fee due at check-in. This showed that the hotel had received my reservation details. When we arrived, we discovered we had not been given the Deluxe King Suite we paid for. Instead, we were placed in an old, worn Queen room that was clearly not the room category we had reserved. I spoke with Cynthia at the front desk. Rather than acknowledging the mistake or offering to refund the difference in price, she repeatedly blamed Booking.com and then offered several different explanations as to why it happened. She even agreed that I had every reason to be upset and told me how I could seek reimbursement. However, when Booking.com contacted the hotel on my behalf, the hotel refused to approve any adjustment. The most disappointing part wasn't just receiving the wrong room--it was the complete lack of accountability. We paid for one room category and received another, yet no one at the property was willing to make it right. If you book here, I strongly recommend confirming your room type before arrival and verifying that you actually receive the accommodations you paid for. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this hotel.

But this place delivered. I can honestly say there was nothing to complain about. I was 100 percent pleased. The rooms are clean, modern, and the bed is very comfortable. I know the difference between a $500/night resort and what you get in the low $100s in the off-season, and this far exceeded expectations. Seriously, this was perfect.

Like if someone mixed the wrong chemicals when cleaning. The microwave was broken. It being January not much is open, so we were going to heat up dinner & breakfast in our room. We called the number provided but no one ever called us back. We would have changed rooms last night!! I woke up with a migraine!! I ran the bathroom fan on trying to get rid of that smell to no avail. UGH! This may have been a 1 off room, I didn't see anyone else complaining of their room issues outside. We won't be back. What would I do differently? I did everything I was supposed to do. 1) I told the front desk there was a "chlorine like pool smell in our room." I smelled it the minute we walked in. They said "It's coming in from outside and blowing down the pipe, it should clear up." IT DID NOT *** 2) The microwave was broken, I called the number on the paperwork they gave us. It went to VM. I left a message, no one ever called me back! 3) I woke up 2 hours after going to bed with a migraine and I was having trouble breathing. I went out on the balcony for fresh air. It was so cold out but at least I could breathe. My head was pounding!! I went down to my car in the parking lot and sat there for a while. I finally went back upstairs & got my husband, who wasn't bothered at all by whatever this was. I told the lady at the desk about what is going on, it wasn't the same lady so she had no idea what was going on. I went back to my room & changed & left. As we were getting ready to leave I noticed that the cleaning lady was using Clorox. I told her the room smells very strongly of bleach. She said "some people don't like the bleach because it smells strong so I mix it with Fabuloso." I quickly realized what the smell was & looked up what mixing Clorox & Fabuloso would do. It creates a gas! I went down stairs and told the front desk about it. She said she'd give us a discount. Thanks for torturing me, can you pay me now? WE WON'T BE BACK!!! BTW, my husband has been a P-1 Master plumber for 35 years and NEVER heard of BLEACH smell down 'a pipe' before. These folks are crazy!

Now let's see what happened to the other 3 stars. I got a call from Silver Lake just before boarding the ferry from Cedar Island. Nice enough lady, telling me that the office will close at 5pm, and that my room key will be in the late arrival box. Late arrival? Huh? Most travelers don't even roll into town until 5. Okay I thought, my adventure will extend beyond the ferry ride. I did arrive late. I got there at 6:30. Sheez, late at 6:30, in what world is 6:30 late. Well, in Island world 6:30 is late. Laid-back, I'll get to it....eventually. Sure enough, as the lady told me, my key was in the box, the "Late arrival box". LoL. I found the room charming, in a 1930s kind of way. Wood everywhere, floors, wall paneling, shutters, furniture, you know, homey, IF YOU'RE A LUMBERJACK! I attempted to log on to the WiFi, but no matter how many times I tried, numerous number variations, upper case, lower case, it just wasn't happening. I know, I'll go to the office for help. Oh, that's right the office is closed. I was a 6:30 late check in. So, no Internet. Maybe I'll watch a few minutes of TV before dinner. I pop it on, fuzzy channels. It's probably a bad cable connection I thought, so I checked the cable. It wasn't hard to get to, it was coming out of the wall, at eye level, above the T V, right next to the plug. Curious place for an electrical outlet, but I guess that's the way it was back in the 30s. I managed to get some fairly decent reception. The show I turned on was Bar Rescue. Bad timing for The Silver Lake Motel. The Rescue guy was pointing out everything that was wrong, and most applied to what I was experiencing. Bottom line, lack of pride in ownership. My advice, stay away from Silver Lake. If enough do, maybe it'll close down before it reaches its 100th anniversary. Quick Tip: If you're a glutton for punishment, then book a stay at Silver Lake. But if you want to avoid being a late arrival, I suggest getting there before sunrise.
