They say it takes up to 2.5 hours. That's not true. It took over 2.5 hours. They are slow and don't work with a sense of urgency. Also, I didn't appreciate the lack of privacy during the entire process. I shouldn't have to give answers to invasive questions in front of others. When I first arrived I met with Mike, he assisted with the initial intake. He is friendly, patient and answers all your questions. Be aware this intake can take around 2-3 hours. Give yourself time and depending on how busy that is too. Fridays I check in with the amazing Kathy. She is awesome, friendly and I always look forward to seeing when I come in. Great experience and location! I came in as a New Donor not sure what to expect, but the entire end-to-end process was incredibly easy. The staff is kind and helpful, and very efficient. I never felt like I was waiting long periods of time (Tip: Going earlier in the morning helps) and was moved along pretty quickly. I felt very informed and taken care of during the process. [The five stars for this update and the previous one is to provide evidence that the intent of the research and reviews of Octapharma in San Pablo is improvement, not to damage a business with a low star rating. Since posting my 2-star review on 11/14, 5 new 5-star reviews have appeared--mostly from people out of town. This is the response you can expect if you have a concern about a needle injury inflicted by a phlebotomist at this store. ] I was ambushed and pulled into the back office by Earvin, the assistant manager, after writing a review recommending changes in communication practices by phlebotomists who injure "donors" by misplacing needles and/or using too much pressure. I expected I may not be welcome back. Instead, since both my arms were badly injured by phlebotomists in this store (Earvin and I discussed those injuries in the back office only a few days earlier), Elena the intake tech said that I would not be allowed to sell plasma until they healed. Frankly, I was relieved. The stress from these experiences is considerable, and I don't need the money in the same way I did previously. This time, I could walk away. I just needed to confirm for the research the lack of accountability for any injury caused by the phlebotomists here. Elena retrieved Earvin from his office where he'd been alerted I was in the store (there were, like, 4 people there on Sunday morning, so it was very obvious when one of the techs went into Earvin's office to tell him I was there while I stood first and only in line. It was all in my line of sight.) Earvin came out, I told him I was recording to keep everything transparent and accurate. He acknowledged and agreed. I asked him to confirm that the reason they are denying access to their marketplace to sell my plasma is because Octapharma's phlebotomists had injured both my arms with misplaced needles to such an extent that the infiltration (the internal bleeding causing severe bruising) made my arms unusable in this context. He would not confirm that. Then the assistant manager insinuated that the bruising wasn't caused in this store by saying, "Maybe the bruising is from here, we don't know that." Sowing doubt about my credibility and trustworthiness in front of staff and other "donors" is enough to demonstrate not only an active attempt to cover-up the cause of injuries in this store (he knew where the bruises came from), but to shift the burden of responsibility and liability out of the realm of Octapharma's practices and onto the "donor." I got home and began writing an article for a series on LinkedIn and a piece in a series on Medium for An InJustice magazine. Friendly staff. The process as a first donor can be long but they put all your concerns at ease!

I've been coming to octapharma plasma in San Pablo for a few weeks now, and my experience here has been good. I designated 2 to 3 hours for my first visit, because I knew that I would need to sign documentation, watch videos, go through a physical exam with the nurse, and get everything set up. you have to bring your photo ID, proof of address, and Social Security card. I was actually turned away for my first visit, because the phlebotomist looked at my veins and told me that I should drink more water. They wanted me to have a good first experience, which I appreciated, but I was also bummed out that I could not continue, especially because I live 25+ min away and I have to pay a bridge toll and gas to get here. But it made me more aware of my nutrition and water intake. Every time I donate, I have to make sure that two days prior I am not drinking caffeine, or alcohol, because it will dehydrate you, and I make sure that I eat a lot of protein, more than usual, because after you do a donation they're taking the plasma out of you that includes some protein so you have to make sure you eat more. The other day I actually was also bummed out because they turned me away after not having enough protein in my plasma. On top of that they have a March bingo card and the nurse would not sign off on any of my spots because I did not donate so it was just really upsetting. she seems like she was new here so I just left disappointed but because of this situation, I made sure to up my protein and come back two days later. The nurse that helped me today was really awesome, her name is Jomaine! Actually, a lot of the staff here are really great, the more often you come here the more you get to know them and you can see which nurse you like to check you in, and which phlebotomist you prefer to stick you. You don't really get to choose, but you can choose the hours that you come in and see if their hours line up with yours. I don't really like needles, so I always ask them to cover my injection spot for me while donating. I really like the incentive especially the 35 day promotion and when you refer friends. Of course, I also like that donating plasma will help a lot of people who need blood transfusions. So when you come here, just make sure you are healthy, hydrated, you eat a lot of protein, veggies, you stay away from fatty foods like cheese and dairy the two days prior and be prepared to stay anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes to complete one donation. Carlos and Robert are awesome phlebotomist, there's another woman who is great too but I can't remember her name right now, I'll update this when I do. Candice is a great nurse as well and so is another nurse who I cannot remember her name but I know she is a little older and has many years experience as a nurse. She's the one that taught me that when they are checking your blood when they prick your finger she likes to squeeze the finger before pricking it, I swear I feel no pain! read more

This place robs people for the money, in Oakland they give me 60 for a 46 hematocrit Pablo stole 10 dollars for my hematocrit, damn shame.

I have been coming here for three years. If I could rate the staff, I would give this place a 4.5. The low star rating is due to the fact that their strategy of docking routine donors on their protein check. I routinely donate and my protein levels are always in check at my initial screening. Whenever a quarter protein check comes, somehow my levels drop, even though I have eaten plenty of protein for the days leading up. The protein check somehow takes almost two weeks to be completed, even though Kaiser/Labcorp can get results in 4 hrs. I advise donors to be conscious of the fact that even though your diet will be fine, the lab Octa uses will mysteriously knock you down ~1 point to keep you from donating for two-four weeks to intentional drop down the tiers so that they pay less $ with the same amount of plasma obtained. Also they even prolong timing of eligibility to come back again for donation by dragging time with the excuse that they need a doctor to clear up for re-donation which takes up almost another week. In all sincerity, how can their own protein tests be so off from what a lab uses? This has been the wicked tactics they have used to multiple good and loyal donors including my friends so that they pay less $ to donors read more

Ive been a donor since September 2021 & love coming in here. All the employees made me feel so comfortable right off the bat, especially Naeleen who did my initial startup. They made sure I had all the information I needed and let me ask any and all questions without making me feel like a burden for even the most obvious questions. This review isnt towards the staff or center, more towards the corporate office or whoever is responsible of changing the hours. This center now closes at 4pm, this is extremely inconveniant. No one is getting off of work before 4pm, most get off at 4 or 5. I am no longer able to donate and so are countless others because we have a job!!! Closing at 4 was the worst mistake they could have made, its extremely immoral. Their excuse was because they werent getting enough donors so they cut hours. I guarantee you the donor rate has dropped drastically since the new schedule change since people cant leave work 2-3 hours early to donate!! This is affecting donors and staff, how greedy can a company be?? Change the time back or this place will lose out on a lot more money since there wont be much plasma to donate. Horrible decision by corporate and management! I just dont understand the thought process, ridiculous! If anyone else is having this issue please dont hesitate to post a review too. I had never donated plasma before so I was a bit nervous about the process but with the help of the friendly staff and the comfortable environment I had a successful first donation. To start off, the facility was clean and spacious and I was greeted kindly by Ervin. I explained to him that it was my first time and he was very patient and welcoming and introduced me to Shelia who would be assisting me with the process. She was also so kind and took her time, which I was very thankful for. I was worried they would just try to rush me in and out to donate but that was not the case at all. At the end of my donation, I felt overall satisfied with my experience and will definitely go back again and if you have the means, you should donate as well :) read more
