This time we arrived early and asked for a floor level room due to having a wagon and two kids. They graciously allowed us to have a floor room but informed us it wouldnt be ready until 2:30pm which was fine because the check in time did state 4pm. We ended up come back around 4pm from the island. The room was 2 queens and it was massive! Insanely massive and better than the king one we had. The room was clean and thankfully the toilet worked. We went to the pool and it was nice and warm and empty at that time. Only sad thing was there is no tub in this room so it was hard to wash the kids but we managed. Breakfast is upstairs and sadly no elevator nearby. The food wasnt too bad. The kids ate a little and then we checked out. I will say that the staff was super nice. He was nice when checking us in an out. He had such a positive attitude.

The first night we noticed that the carpet by the door was a little wet. We figured it was from the recent rains. The next morning the first 3 feet inside the door was soaking wet. I took a shower and every now and then a cold drop of water hit me. I could not figure out where it was coming from until I look up and realized that the shower on the floor above us was leaking on me - gross. Since we were staying two nights, we went to the front desk and asked for a new room. We went to the second room and there were flying bugs on both beds. We went back to the front desk and told them about the bugs. They told us that the bugs were everywhere and that we needed to live with them. I asked for a third room, and it was much better and it did not have bugs. The towels are old and a little gray. The toilet paper is very rough and turns cardboard brown when it goes into the water. If you are looking for a cheap place and can put up with old hotel features this might be the place for you.

Where do I even begin? My wife and in-laws stayed in the lakefront facing building for a few nights this summer (my first trip to Mackinaw and this part of Michigan), and everything about the building is a disaster. The exterior of the building is caked in mold. The exterior stairs to get to the 2nd floor room we stayed in covered in the oldest, dirtiest, dumpiest rug I have EVER seen. It must never have been changed. It's SO moldy and slippery that our entire party almost slipped while walking up those stairs. Our room wasn't much of a different story. The room and bathroom were in terrible shape. Dirty, moldy, and un-kept. It looked as if it hadn't had a thorough cleaning in.. well, ever. The exterior balcony had the same carpeting as the stairs with the same issues - dirty, moldy, damp, and slippery. The room was also damp and humid. We all felt like we had to walk everywhere in the room/bathroom with our shoes on because it felt so disgusting. The balcony was screened in, and parts of the screen were taped where there were large holes. Same for the sliding screen door - holes were taped where there were huge holes. This place needs to shut down for a month and hire a crew to come in and do a complete gut cleaning job - from the inside out, and all around. You can see the potential of a place like this, in a location like this, but management/ownership has to put in the work to keep it up. And these folks don't. I'd be embarrassed to sell this as a hospitality experience in Mackinaw City.

Instead, we got one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I've had. At check-in, the manager casually told me breakfast was just "grab and go" no hot food, nothing like the continental breakfast I was promised. Our room was shockingly small, with a bed that felt like a cardboard box. The carpet was stained, and there were electrical cords running across the floor to reach other outlets, which felt like a safety hazard. The pool was the final straw. It was green, clearly not maintained, and filled with spiderwebs and actual spiders inside the pool house. When I brought this up, the manager flat out refused a refund and kept insisting the pool was fine. He only offered to move us to a lakeside view, which did nothing to address the actual issues. We even used a blacklight in the bathroom, and what lit up told me everything I needed to know about how "clean" the place really was. We ended up sleeping on top of the bed with our own sheets and pillows because it felt so dirty. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel!! Choice should reconsider having their name attached to it.

The all in one tv/closet/cabinet was very dusty/dirty on the bottom outside of the refrigerator. One of the handles bars in the washroom was rigged to stay up. The balcony is a decent size with table and 2 chairs. They could use a wiping. You can visibly tell the balconies do not get wash down periodically as there were huge and plenty spiderwebs with trash and dirt in them. They do not spray for bug as they were visible. Bring a can of out door bug spray. Beautiful lake view, beautiful beach. The bedspread was worn with stains but it was clean. The sliding door to the patio did not lock properly. Only 1 elevator for this massive size hotel. Plenty of carts to transport your luggage. The Comfort Inn Motel is connected to this hotel as well. Dining hall: buffet style. Plenty of options (powdered eggs, Canadian bacon, cereal, breakfast bars, fruit coctails, pancakes, waffles, muffins, coffee, juice, y3a, etc.) Dining hall is huge as it is shared by both hotels (Comfort Inn and Hamilton Inn). Its a bit dark and gloomy in the room. Hall ways are sometimes blocked by large cleaning carts and some of the house keepers look at you strange when you move them out your way. They do not have any room door signs for do not disturb. The swimming pool water was not clear. Very cloudy. The hot tub at one point had lots of suds. Its wasn't the cleanest area. Plenty of parking. Side and outter doors need better security as anyone could walk in off the parking lot or beach and enter the facility. Desk Service (3 women). They are not the friendliest. The supervisor is the worst of them all. She appeared to be very bossy and boarderline unprofessional to her coworkers. They talk to you like you did something wrong if you ask a question. They were all well dresses and groomed. Again, they should not be the face of the resort with bad atritudes. The hotel is walking distance to the Ferry that you will take to Mackinac Island. All the hotels are next door to one another (like the Las Vegas strip) so everything in walking distance (2-4 blocks). Shopping, activites and restaurants are also walking distance in this same area. They hotel had lots of guest as it seems to stay very busy. Overall, I would stay again if 1 or 2 other hotels were not available as I now know what to expect here at the Hamilton. The owner just need to invest and address a few minor and cosmetic details and it could easily be a 5-star hotel. Due to the flaws identified, the price needs to come down a bit and should never be over $160 a night. I paid $217 - $237 a night.

Our "chalet" was tiny - barely big enough for the queen bed. Black mildew all over the yellowed shower curtain. Half a roll of toilet paper stacked on top of an empty roll. Mineral crust over the shower head. Black hair all over the blankets. Stains on the carpet. Burnt out porch light. Burnt out streetlights. Half the "amenities" listed are a lie. There's no breakfast. No laundry. No "business center" (wanted to print my ferry tickets). No beach access - unless you count the sandy area across the street with drainage pipes from the other hotel parking lots. Staff aren't friendly or helpful. This place should be shut down. I can't believe it's passing whatever health inspections take place.

Awful room, sticky stains on the nightstand, bed sheets two sizes too small, no mattress protector on our bed, bathroom toilet roll holder was missing, broken door handle, TP in the cubby, shower curtain so long it blocked the drain & caused my 11 year old son to stand on it by accident and fall in the tub. We even found a previous resident's retainer behind the nightstand!!!! The wifi was non existent, they advertised three SSIDs, Cabins, EconoLodge and Crowne (which I assume they were associated with) none of them worked for more than about 10 minutes, and when they did, it was like trying to run up the dunes at Sleeping Bear, with 40lb weight around your ankles. When we complained, they seemed disinterested, it took 4 complaints on the wifi to get it resolved, next day it worked for about 10 minutes before going off line again. The only positive thing to say about this place, is the location, but that is essentially the same that can be said for any hotel on the strip there. It is essentially an Econolodge (which they don't tell you). At best it's a Crowne, and I guess if you pay through the nose you might get a cabin! They had the cheek to call me in the afternoon to make sure I was showing up, and it hadn't even gone checkin time yet. Horrible experience, don't ever stay there. BTW, check out the disabled parking, how does that work?
