Bait and switch. All photos are of the 8 or so two-story log cabins. Everything else is a tiny shack or a hotel room -- you won't see these pictured in their advertisements. Our "chalet" was tiny - barely big enough for the queen bed. Black mildew all over the yellowed shower curtain. Half a roll of toilet paper stacked on top of an empty roll. Mineral crust over the shower head. Black hair all over the blankets. Stains on the carpet. Burnt out porch light. Burnt out streetlights. Half the "amenities" listed are a lie. There's no breakfast. No laundry. No "business center" (wanted to print my ferry tickets). No beach access - unless you count the sandy area across the street with drainage pipes from the other hotel parking lots. Staff aren't friendly or helpful. This place should be shut down. I can't believe it's passing whatever health inspections take place. read more

One of the worst hotels I ever stayed in. Yes they have cabins, yes they look new(er) but we, ended up in the Econolodge behind them. Awful room, sticky stains on the nightstand, bed sheets two sizes too small, no mattress protector on our bed, bathroom toilet roll holder was missing, broken door handle, TP in the cubby, shower curtain so long it blocked the drain & caused my 11 year old son to stand on it by accident and fall in the tub. We even found a previous resident's retainer behind the nightstand!!!! The wifi was non existent, they advertised three SSIDs, Cabins, EconoLodge and Crowne (which I assume they were associated with) none of them worked for more than about 10 minutes, and when they did, it was like trying to run up the dunes at Sleeping Bear, with 40lb weight around your ankles. When we complained, they seemed disinterested, it took 4 complaints on the wifi to get it resolved, next day it worked for about 10 minutes before going off line again. The only positive thing to say about this place, is the location, but that is essentially the same that can be said for any hotel on the strip there. It is essentially an Econolodge (which they don't tell you). At best it's a Crowne, and I guess if you pay through the nose you might get a cabin! They had the cheek to call me in the afternoon to make sure I was showing up, and it hadn't even gone checkin time yet. Horrible experience, don't ever stay there. I'm not sure if we were given a sub-par room because we were traveling with a dog, but I was very disappointed with the room... we arrived late after an 8 hour drive so we were just happy to rest. From the outside, the place looks like a charming rustic group of log cottages... however, the interiors need a face-lift. We were not in a cottage, so I have no knowledge of the room quality there. The bathroom door locks you in, which would be incredibly frightening for someone traveling alone!!! The showe head is about a foot shorter than it should be, so unless you are under 5 feet tall, you'll need to squat to wash your hair . And the shower clearly floods the floor since there is grime and mold along the shower and toilet bases. The furniture, rugs, and wall paper are outdated. The nightly charge is high considering the above and certainly could be better options in the area for a similar cost.. unless you're traveling with a dog, then this is one of your only options. "Private beach" is misleading. Beach is owned by two other hotels by walking or driving across busy street and parking lot. Even this is limited to short crowded areas by rising water level between ferry piers. Pick another hotel. We stayed in the back, more traditional vs the good looking cabins you see from the road. Rooms are very basic. Water doesn't turn off in sink. The bathroom floor had tiles missing, the tub looked like the prototype for the 1st ever jet bathtub. There was black mold (visible) in the corners of the bathroom. The bathroom tub leaks and has some pretty bad cracks around the drain. Found a beer cap in the water knob on the jacuzzi tub. The furniture is wobbly. I set my cooler on the table and i thought the thing was going to fall over. There is no fitted sheets on the bed. And the bathroom window will not close all the way. For starters, the tv did not work in our room. We called the front desk and asked if it was supposed to and he said yes and he would have someone come try to fix it for us. Nobody ever came to check it out. Then, I was going to use the jet tub in the bathroom which was a mistake. I filled the tub then turned on the jets to make sure they worked, this made a bunch of dirt and nasty grime come out of the pumps which made my bath water look terrible (as seen in the picture) and completely not want to use even the shower in my room. After deciding to drain the bath water, I realized how clogged the drain was in the tub. It took an hour and a half for the tub to drain and by then I just wanted to go to sleep. I laid in the bed and realized the sheets felt sticky. I do not recommend this place to anyone. The rooms are cheaper here for a reason I guess! read more

This probably is the worst place We have ever stayed. I booked through hotels.com and paid after tax and fees $422.00 for a family chalet. The pictures online depicted tidy, cute cabins/chalets which were a far cry from the dilapidated, dated, and dirty chalet we stayed. Before we opened the door, the lack of housekeeping was apparent with tables and chairs strewn all over the grass. There was garbage everywhere littering the lawn. Our chalet (and all the others) had rotten shutters, roof tiles falling off, paint peeling, and front steps that looked hazardous. It was musty, the carpet appears to be 30 years old, and appears to not get vacuumed that often. The water park was freezing and the pool was dirty; murky water and hair everywhere. When we told management our concerns and frustrations that our chalet had been misrepresented, there was "nothing he could do". Don't stay here! read more

First of all, they told us the check in time was 4pm. We got there around 4:30 and the rooms were not even close to ready. They also false advertise their cabins. The first couple cabins that you see look like fun! As soon as you turn the corner all the cabins are small, smell like weed, are dirty,and look like they are about to fall over. We paid over $1,000 dollars for 2 CABINS.We got a hotel room and a small cabin that you couldn't even walk in. The service was horrible. The people at the front desk are rude. Everything here is way overpriced and not even worth the amount of money we paid. The advertising is a bit misleading for the cabins. What they show you online is not what you get. You're expecting the 2 story cabin that looks like a little house/cabin. When you arrive, you are given keys and you drive behind the cool cabins where the small cabins are. They are very small and in not so good condition. The equivalent of being in a motel. We asked to upgrade to the nicer cabins. This is the reason why I'm giving 3 stars. It was four adults and we were quite comfortable in the larger cabin. Big living area, big tub/shower, etc. We had our own front porch with a plastic patio set. The other thing that was a shock was that breakfast, pool, wifi are at a different hotel they partner with. There are a list of restaurants that you can eat at and get a 10% discount if you show them your room card and the free breakfast is great but its across the street in another hotel. Booked my room via Priceline in order to save a few bucks. For two nights it still cost me over $200. Everything in the room was unplugged when I arrived. At least one of the lamps did not work. Notified the front desk, but no one ever came by to check it out. There was a small heater/air conditioner in the wall but there was a large gap between the wall and the unit. This gap allowed bugs to constantly stream into my room. I kept waking up from bugs landing on me. Two miserable nights there. I informed the front desk of the big problem and the reply that I received was "there are a lot of bugs in Mackinaw City", to which I replied yeah but they shouldn't be inside! Continental breakfast that was advertised was nonexistent. I was instead given a brown bag consisting of 1 apple, 1 trial size granola bar and 1 bottle of water... VERY underwhelming. Tiles in the bathroom were broken, holes in the shower curtain, carpeted outdoor walkway to the room, absolutely covered in moss, and or throw up. Absolutely do not recommend! Spend a few more bucks and get a room somewhere else. read more

Reasons: Bathroom- water clogged and filled bathtub during my 1st shower; Showerhead is also old; there was no hand towel for me to wash my body with on 1st day (they supplied it on 2nd day); Two sinks, nice, but odd that the mirror is not placed over the sink but instead over a tall dresser few feet away; Floor & armchair- not vacuumed too well; Television- not flat screen as shown in their advertisement, it is very old so screen is not crisp clear, we had trouble trying to make it clear; Breakfast- poor quality! Everything except waffle taste like they're from cans or $1 store; Waterpark- actually more for small kids, we didn't bother using waterpark bracelets; Services- night female staff (long hair, thin) is terribly rude, the day staff are friendlier. Horrific breakfast (located off property at another hotel, food not fit for human consumption). The cabin was very clean and beautifully decorated. The staff is rude and they billed us for excursions my family never authorized or took. The amenities for this hotel are the WORST I've ever experienced. Usually I just go with the flow and deal with it, but not this!!!! They advertise free breakfast. You get a free breakfast in a filthy breakfast area. Limited staff to man the area. So the cereal dispenser area had cereal all over the place. We where crunching cereal under our feet and milk was spilled on the counters. The hot breakfast area was worse. Eggs, sausage gravy, potatoes where all over the counters. Hardening to the surface. People we serving themselves by hand because the thongs were filthy. Graving sausage with their hands. They ran out of breakfast items by 9am. Breakfast starts at 8am. The beverage area was also covered in sticky spilled beverage. My shoes stuck to the floor. YUK!!! We decided to go out to breakfast for the remainder of our stay. WHICH DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF A HITEL WITH FREE BREAKFAST. Btw- the breakfast area is above the indoor pool so it SMELLS horrible. The guests had to open every window to get the smell out. We felt very deceived. When you book on cabinsofmackinac site they ONLY show rooms as cabins and two story. When I booked it still gave the description of cabin. The site does not show a hotel style room at all. This is what we got. Not what we wanted. We came for the water park and the day we arrived they said it was now closed even though I called days prior to double check this so we could cancel. I was also told my the woman that things were up and going around the town and island. 90 percent of things are NOT going right now. We wasted our money and time but we planned to at least do the water park for our 2 year old and it's closed. Update your site to be more clear on your rooms. We rented one of the cabins. It had a lot of room; table/chairs, sofa, microwave/refrigerator. Unfortunately the refrigerator didn't work and leftovers spoiled. No fitted sheets for bed. We were extremely disappointed staying in "The Cabins". The Cabin was dirty and disgusting. There was no table inside the cabin to eat our meal and the table on the porch was filthy. It was so dated and had an old school a/c that ran constantly and smelled terrible. There was no internet service. When we complained to the person at the desk - I was told that I could check out but would receive NO REFUND. I told him that I would be making a complaint on Social Media and he stated - "Go ahead, you won't be the first". It was a nightmare. We never took a shower or even brushed our teeth. We checked out at 7:00 am in the morning completely exhausted from no rest and not feeling refreshed. Oh and I asked to speak to the Manager but was told that he wasn't there and so I asked for him to call me which of course, he never returned any of my phone calls. We got "upgraded" and thank God for that because we were upgraded to the nice cabins for some of us. eserved two rooms with three people staying in each room. In one room, neither of the beds were made. I tried to call the front desk, but the phone was not connected (no dial tone), so I had to go back to the reception desk to ask about this. We were issued two new rooms. In room one, there was only one set of towels -- even though there were three occupants. In the other room, there was no information about a password for the Internet (WiFi). I tried to call the front desk, but the phone was not connected (no dial tone) in this room either, so I had to go back to the reception desk to ask for more towels in one of our rooms and for the Internet password. At the front desk, the receptionist called "Facilities" on the phone and asked them to bring more towels to the room in question. Then she told me the Internet password and said that the WiFi doesn't work well and that I might not be able to connect. I returned to the room, and the WiFi password that the receptionist gave me did not work. Also, I noticed that there was only an empty cardboard tube on the toilet paper dispenser instead of a roll of toilet paper. Also, the remote control for the TV did not work (dead batteries or broken controller). Also, the doors on the TV cabinet were broken, so it was impossible to a) get the left cabinet door to stay all the way open and b) close the right cabinet door all the way. And there were four hand towels but no bath towels or wash clothes. In the other room, we discovered that there was hair in the bathtub drain, and the window in the bathroom was open. We closed the window, but there is no lock on it. There was also no lock on the bathroom window in the other room. Ironically, there is a picture on the wall in room that says, "Cast your troubles away". Nothing but trouble at this hotel! read more

I liked the log cabin atmosphere of the hotel room. The beds were comfortable and the room seemed to be clean. The sink in the bathroom had a leak and dripped all night. We stayed on the bottom floor and were woke up super early by the people above us stomping loudly. We would probably stay again. It was an average hotel stay. read more

We selected this location due to the water parks, and the Wi-Fi. The water parks are not on the premises, and there is no Wi-fi as far as I can see since July, over a month ago. Per the front desk they have three routers and one of them is causing an issue but they cannot figure out which one. This is not rocket science, replacing all three should fix the problem for everybody involved. There is no vending machines on premises nor is there breakfast on the premises, all are At other hotels. There is also no indoor pool on premises, a beach would be unlikely since it is on the other side of the road with a hotel between here and the water. I am guessing the fitness room is also located at a different hotel. I have not seen a fitness room anywhere. We found a water bottle half drank underneath a bed. The light in the bathroom is very dim, even with both lights on. When contacted about wifi, I was led to believe it was us that was having the issue. After waiting 8 hours and calling again, I was told the router was reset and they were having issues. This morning after some investigation I verify they have had intermittent at Best Wifi. In other words, NO WIFI There is not enough of a barrier between rooms in the chalets. read more

First of all the bathrooms had mold in them due to the poor choice of wallpaper in a bathroom. The air conditioner unit has NEVER been cleaned and had mounds of disgusting dust and dirt stuck in it. I came up to stay in one of the log cabins up here for a day of spring break and I had a great experience! The cabin itself was beautiful and we did not experience any problems. The Waterpark next door was wonderful as well. It had a huge hot tub, pool, sauna, and playscape for kids to play on. It was supervised by a staff member. We experienced no problems here either. We met very few of the employees, but the two that we did meet were very kind. I enjoyed being able to wake up in the upstairs loft and watching the sunrise over the lake as well. Beautiful cabins and I would recommend staying here. Disclaimer: I read previous reviews of this place and understand that some people didn't have a pleasant experience with the employees, and I can't exactly speak on that subject given that I didn't really see any, but I wouldn't let that deter you from coming to stay here.
