Two days ago, August 13, 2026, my wife stopped by Odell's because our brakes were making a grinding noise. Without mentioning what was wrong, my wife asked when she could bring the car in to have it looked at. Dave said the next appointment would be the third week in September, and put us on his calendar. He then asked my wife, what the problem was, and when she told him brakes, he immediately took a look, and said, "Can you bring it in tomorrow?" My wife said, "Is that good for you?" Dave said he didn't want us driving the car with the brakes in this condition, so he would "make it work." What a great guy! I live on the island - Brought my car in - he kept it for a day diagnosed it - told me he couldn't fix it because his bay isn't big enough to do what needed to be done. Then he suggested two other shops that he'd recommend do the work and gave me my keys. I asked what I owed him for his time and work - he said he practiced good neighbor work and wouldn't accept anything. Told me if I had other issues to think of him. We were on LBI recently and had a minor issue with my SUV whenever I made a left turn. It sounded like the front tire was brushing against something. Got a recommendation to go see Dave at Odells. He is by far one of the most polite and honest auto mechanic I have come across. Dave was able to resolve the problem while we were at Scojos for breakfast and his charges were very nominal. If you are on LBI and have car issues, you have two options: Odell's or Undertoe. Make sure you choose Odell's, it is far and away the superior option. I had two nails in my tire and called Dave (Odell); he was so kind and accommodating. I brought my tire in the same day and he had it plugged and fixed within 20 minutes. If you go to Undertoe, you will be treated rudely and will leave unsatisfied (likely without your car fixed as well.) Thank you, Dave! read more

There was a mechanical sounding rattle when I turned on my car and the engine started. I told them it sounded like a bracket had come loose. They kept the car 6 hours and changed the spark plugs and points and charged me 470 dollars. Never fixed the rattling and almost 500 for spark plugs and points? read more

Safe to say we have a trusted mechanic in the area for every year when my family and I vacation here in the summer. Was leaving to travel back to Maine after a week long vacation when we ran into car troubles. Called odells, they said they were pretty busy, but to swing in and they would see what they could do. I dropped the car off at noon, and they had my car diagnosed, fixed and ready to roll by 5, and charged a very reasonable rate! I did not expect this, as it was easy to see they were busy and I dropped by without an appointment, it wouldn't have surprised me if they told me it would be a couple days. It's easy to see that these guys do business the old school way, and aren't out to rip you off. Being out of state and far away from home, they really could have turned the screws on me. But instead, they treated me as if I had been a loyal customer for years. If more businesses were like this, the world would be a better place. We feel so lucky to have found this auto repair shop. There was a problem with my daughter's brakes. he fixed them within 3 hours and even needed to have apart brought in to do it. The price was very fair. The jib they didvwas quality. They were very accommodating. We will be giving them more of our business in the near future. Thought for sure that a repair shop on the island would charge excessive prices. That was just not the case at all for Odell's. read more

O'Dells always comes thru. I had a broken brake line. They had me up and running in a few hours.

We recently made the long trip from Northern Vermont to Long Beach Island, and while driving on the island a ton of lights started going off on my dash. After looking up the problem, people said it was most likely the alternator going and if it died while driving, so would the car. Great. Found Odells as the nearest mechanic, and brought it in at 4:45pm on a Friday to have them take a look. Jeff (owner) was as nice as could be, and helped me run through a number of alternate fixes that would cost less than the alternator, including a new battery (which he offered to take back out when it didn't fix the problem). In the end the alternator was ordered for the next day, and he quoted me a reasonable price for install at a couple of hours. On Saturday I picked up the car, and he had done the work in 1 hour so it cost even less than he said. Problem solved. I seriously thought that I would be ripped off being a tourist from so far away, stuck on an expensive island, and having a repair needing to be done before the long trip back. Jeff and his nephew tried everything they could to save me from having to do the repair, were helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable. They helped me after closing hours on a friday, and did the repair on a saturday. They did the repair in half the quoted time (but could have easily lied about it). And in the end, the repair cost me less than if my mechanic at home had done it (I checked). They made such an impression on me that im considering stopping back in on our next visit just to say hi. Don't hesitate to take your car here, they will treat you fairly. read more

An honest opinion at a fair price. What else can you ask for?

On August 22 we drove from our home in NE to LBI for a 1-week summer vacation. Around 2pm just before reaching the island we experienced significant problems with our rear suspension. Of course we urgently needed assistance but we managed to slowly and carefully cross the Causeway (hazard lights blinking) to reach the island. Once there though we didn't know anyone, so stopped at a restaurant and got Odell's contact from a kind restaurant employee. Despite being a busy Saturday late afternoon, owner Jeffrey honored our plea and agreed to look at our car. Once on the lift the reason for our problem quickly became apparent: both our newly installed rear shocks were missing their lower nuts and weren't attacked to the car frame. Our trusted mechanic back home must have only "finger tightened" the nuts when I had last visited 2 weeks prior to replace our old rear shocks. The nuts must have loosened during the stress of the ride and the added weight of a car carrying three people and their luggage and misc. items. After a look over, two new nuts and a half hour charge for labor we were good to go. Owner Jeffrey and his assistant were friendly, professional and very honest. They not only fixed our problem efficiently for a very reasonable price but they saved our vacation and helped us get back home safely. We fully support Odell's Service Center and will make sure to stop by to say "hi" when we hopefully once again return to LBI. We are a MOST THANKFUL CUSTOMER! read more

I took my car in to be checked out for some strange noises, they couldn't find anything wrong with it. However when I got my car back they had broken my hood release cable and failed to mention this to me or fix it, so two days later I had to have my car towed into a shop just to get a jump start. When I called to complain they told me "they werent liable" and refused to fix it. They were rude, and tried to tell me that I probably broke it. Needless to say I would not go back. My car went in with apparently no issues and came out with one, repair shop my a$$. read more
