This is a well layed out book store. Biggest kid section i have ever seen. A whole room. Thru one wall is the used section , all divided by type. Another big room. i found two for me for 7.00. Can't go wrong in the used section. Two free book marks as a thank you. And they take books in trade for credit. That Could be useful. read more

Odyssey Bookshop is the quintessential small town book store filked with books and charm. Every time i walk by, they have some thoughtful saying or relevant story on a small blackboard at entrance. The store has new and minimally worn used books, along with magazines, games, and gifts. The book stacks are great for those hunter gathers who enjoy a little bit of searching and enjoy finding hidden gems. The staff has always been warm and inviting during my visits. My first time visiting today. Yes, as other people have noted, the store is crowded and seemingly cluttered. However, once I walked around I found it is actually very organized. Everything is in it's proper genre. And then when you find your subject, the books are alphabetized by author. I was looking for a few books by certain authors and this made it so much easier to look in only certain areas, rather than look at every single book. Even the used book section is alphabetical. I only had interactions with any staff when I was buying a few books, and found her nice, so I have no complaints as far as staff. I think anyone who loves books would love this store. I don't believe the five star reviews. I have tried this shop a few times and find the cashiers rude. There's always unpacked boxes packed in the aisles blocking merchandise, you can't move around without knocking something over. There are no prices on anything, and when you do pay, without a receipt, the costs are very high. I want to support local businesses, but I can go on Amazon and buy things more cheaply, and don't have to put up with rudeness and extreme clutter. read more

Too crowded and disorganized to shop! This place appears to maybe have some cool finds - IF you're a person who has hours to spend digging, and you don't have any issues with small crowded spaces. I walked in, looked around, it was so crowded with stuff I felt very anxious. Aisles are blocked with boxes and inventory so you continue to get blocked just walking through. Odyssey Bookshop, the first bookstore I every went to more than 40 years ago, is quite special to me and to Port Angeles. Whenever I visit Port Angeles I always stop by. It is relatively small and full, which adds so much to its ambiance ... it is a quintessential small town book store that has survived more than 40 years. Impressive! It is well worth a visit if you are in town, and well worth your patronage if you live in the area. Keep up the good work! read more

This was my second time in this store. They have a terrific selection of books and novelty items here. I especially liked their selection of spiritual books, great choices. The used section is solid-- not as cheap as I'm used to seeing at many used book stores but the terrific selection makes this a must see store in my opinion. I visited today because there was a downtown promotion with many stores offering a free gift or a discount. The store is cluttered with lots of blocked aisles and shelves. I bought a small item, it didn't qualify for the promotion, I was just trying to support the business. I heard the clerk offer every person but me if they wanted to enter a raffle. Several people said they didn't want to participate. She didn't even tell me about the promotion. I also went to Port Book & News in First Street and had a much more positive experience. They have a wide variety of little dust catchers that are oddly interesting and that change quite frequently. They have gifts for people of any age. The atmosphere is cozy and the staff leave you alone unless you need help. Newer books are around the price you would expect but the used books are always modestly priced and trade ins welcome. Great value for something tangible you can enjoy over and over. If they don't have what you're looking for they'll order it for you without charge. read more

I was really happy to find a couple of used+new bookstores in PA. Well, they didn't have in stock the oddball classic that I was looking for, there's only two book shops in town where I'd expect to even have the possibility of finding it. This is just such a wonderful book store. It's rather small compared to the ones I usually look for but i give the owner so much credit. It's a small but well crafted selection of books. I found so many gems which is my favorite thing to do in a bookstore. It's a tad disorganized in places but the great lover of books loves seeing so many books that all you can do is make piles. Normally I HATE bookstores and try to avoid them at all costs. However, today I felt particularly adventurous and wandered in here with my family in search of candles, but found some pretty cool stuff instead. They had a book on Liege, a small town in Belgium, where my mother studied abroad when she was in high school!! They also had an assortment of cards, trinkets, new and used books, a play area just for kids and little goodies-we picked up some buttons and funny cards for upcoming birthdays. They also had the coolest thing--an outdoor shower in the shape of a flower! Unfortunately, I live all the way in Florida, but that was such a cute idea and I will definitely be attempting to find one online! The staff were very helpful and even took out the CD that was playing so my mom could buy one because the reggae was that good! read more

*EDIT* The actual owner (the woman I spoke of was neither the owner nor the manager) got in contact with me and made the situation right. She offered to refund my money but I chose a store credit and purchased more items because, as I said, it's a very fun unique store with a lot to offer. The majority of the people who work there are very pleasant and accommodating, the four stars (instead of five) simply reflect my caution due to the unfortunate situation I experienced with one of the employees. Let me preface by saying I really want to give this store 5 stars. It has fun unique items and I would love to support it, even with their prices being significantly higher than what you can find online. They are a small business and I like to keep my money in the community. That being said they should treat their costumers better if they expect people to pay above average prices to support them. I have gone in three times in the last week and spent roughly $400. Every single time I have gone in, the lady who wears the apron (I believe she is the owner or manager) has been completely rude and unaccomadating. The second time I went in I brought in a couple returns that I decided I no longer needed/wanted. It was within a week and both items were in their packaging so the young lady helping me was very kind and happy to help. I then turned around and spent all the money I got back from returning the items, and more. This was yesterday and I bought a nightmare before Christmas game of Operation, that was $29.99. We were very excited for it when I brought it home, opened it up and put batteries in it, and got ready to have some fun. Only it didn't work. Yes some of the "operation sites" caused Oogie boogie to blast out his obnoxious lines, but quite a few didn't really work at all, with you having to click around a couple times to make the "functioning" ones work. Alright no big deal, they were cool about the other returns that I didn't even use or have a real reason to return (other than I changed my mind), so they should most definitely be cool about reimbursing me for buying something that only half works at best, right? Wrong. I brought the game in the day after I bought it (today) and was greeted with a monotone welcome of "you're back". I very kindly and agreeably tried to explain the issue and show what was wrong, and though the first few sites she tried were more responsive than the night before, there were still sites not really working at all, and if they did you had to put in some serious effort to make them "buzz". I was told "well now you can cheat" and "yeah it's in functioning condition". I brought it back home and considered just throwing it away and forgetting the whole thing, but I thought other people should know that there's a solid chance that even if you do spend good money, you will be treated like an annoyance and will not have issues resolved in a professional manner. Don't waste your time or money here, go a couple blocks up the street to Port Book and News if you want to support a local book store. read more

Been going to this bookstore since 1993, loved it. Have since moved from the area but return every time I am in town. This visit was a disappointment, to say the least. The piles of stuff behind the once semi cluttered desk was awful. Aisles either blocked by boxes of stuff or to narrow to navigate. If I hadn't been coming to this bookstore for years I would have thought it was a indoor jumble sale. Really really sad. It use to be full of neat stuff, but now it is so stuffed that you can't find, see or navigate to find anything anymore. Appeared to still have a great selection of children's book but didn't want to chance getting trapped in by a collapse, to enter into the small area. Really sad this once beloved place has fallen so far. Not sure if it will be a "must go to" next time I am in town. read more

I love bookstores, but this place has left me wanting. Inconsistent customer service, piles of books and papers behind the counter, more piles of unpacked boxes and crowded floor space often make it difficult to maneuver around. My first trip since moving back to the area, the woman at the counter had been busy looking at her cellphone when I first stood in front of her. She looked up, and I asked if they had a couple of books in stock. She looked them up on the computer, and said no. I asked her if there was an education section, thinking even if I couldn't find the exact book on teaching that I was looking for, maybe I could find something else. She told me the books were mixed into the parenting section, so I went back to look. Lo and behold, I found one of the books I was looking for that the clerk had told me they didn't have. It was used, but only $5, so I was glad to have found it. I went up the counter with the book, and told her they did have one of the books. She was a little snide, and said the computer only lists new books, not used. I felt like saying to her that it would've been nice to have known that, instead of thinking it might be a waste of time to head back to the section. The following day, I started thinking that maybe the other book was in the kids' section, so I called to ask. I called twice in the morning when they were open, no answer. I left a message on my second attempt at around 10 AM, and someone finally called me back around 6:30. By that time, I had already called Port Book and News who answered their phone right away and a clerk found the book I was looking for, no hassles or poor customer service. Anyway, I told the clerk I had been there the previous day, and started thinking the book I was looking for might be in the kids' section, maybe as a used book. She asked me what the book was, and immediately said no. I thought it was puzzling that she could answer the question without even looking whereas the clerk the previous day said the used books aren't in the database, but maybe this clerk knows all the used kids' books without even looking. read more

I've been going here since I was a kid, and still regularly stop by to pick up a book. They have a large and varied kid's section with books and educational toys, classics, best sellers, cookbooks, etc. They have a huge used book section as well that is well-organized. It's easy to spend an hour perusing the shelves, and the best part is that the staff doesn't ask, 'can I help you find anything?' every five minutes - just a great, relaxed atmosphere. read more
