We were in town for school and decided to check out the Off Broadway Theatre. The show was sold out but there is a row in the back that is not used and we were able to snag two seats there since the young woman at the entrance was lovely. We saw Dracula vs. the Hunchback and it was fantastic! It was funny and interactive; they had great parodies for well-known songs and the actors were super entertaining. If we lived in town, we would be frequent patrons. When we return for graduation, we will be sure to come by if there is a show playing. What a completely unexpected and delightful night we were able to enjoy! I would strongly recommend it and am very grateful we had the opportunity to see the show in the rather comfortable fold up chairs. Next time we will buy tickets earlier and sit in the super comfy seats! read more

This is a great community theater to visit. We went as a family of 7, with a variety of age groups. The performance had something to appeal to all ages. The humor was family appropriate. The snacks were inexpensive and typical movie theater fare. Think popcorn, candy and sodas. They were quick to get your snacks and were on time with the performance. Afterwards the cast will meet guests outside the theater which is a very nice addition. The ticket pricing was similar to seeing a movie. So, for something different and cost effective a great family night out! read more

Came here for a random date night and we saw Robyn Hood. I'd say it was the silliest date we've ever been on (in a good way!). You can tell the cast was very comfortable with improv and super funny, so I'm planning on returning for the improv night and some more plays in the future. Fun place for inexpensive and mediocre entertainment. I don't want to hate on them, but a little TLC could go a long way to make this place more lively. The lobby area is outdated with old and uncomfortable furniture. The decor doubles as storage, which at times is spilling out for the public to see. Staff seems disinterested at best-reminds me of teenagers that are working because their parents make them rather than because they want to. The show we saw was Jurassic Park City. It was mildly funny, more cheesy than I prefer, but my family liked it. We will probably continue to visit because it's very inexpensive and has a nostalgic ambiance. But I'd love to see someone do a makeover-there is a lot of potential here! read more

The Off Broadway Theatre has been downtown for as long as I can remember but I never had had the pleasure of actually checking it out until very recently. One day I hopped on trax and sat agog waiting for the show to begin. The theatre was a bit rundown regarding the seats, carpet, and walls. The props, lights, and music, however, was not thankfully. Now, as far as the acting is concerned, it was, to put it bluntly, campy. This is by all means not an insult but just an observation. Albeit the play was intended as a comedy yet the humor contained few moments of hilarity. I genuinely enjoyed seeing a live action play that didn't break my bank account. I will certainly go back to support the local actors all the while enjoying myself inexpensively. read more

Yes, 5 stars. Why? Because dammit, this place is fun. The calibre of acting that you will see a block away at the Capitol doesn't reside here, but that doesn't matter. Not every play is as funny as "that one that time," but that also doesn't matter. The theatre is old, but the plumbing is older. The seats welcome you with open arms and sink you toward the floor, perhaps requiring you to ask a friend to help you escape, but that's okay too. The OBT doesn't take itself seriously, and you shouldn't either, but that doesn't mean you should stay home. If you go to have fun, Eric and his crew of misfits will make sure you do. So pack your happy-go-lucky vibe, laugh at the funny - yet sometimes corny - jokes about everything, including the Mormons (after all, they're their favourites), and enjoy the OBT's special blend of fractured Utah tales. read more

A little run down and the theater is freezing. A little more TLC would do this place good. But the staff was super helpful finding me a folding chair to use for my back problem. Some skits were really funny. Others were just okay. But overall I think I'd come back. The price was right and it was a good place to come for our anniversary date night. read more

So I took my kids to their muffet Christmas Carol being ready to have a fantastic time as according to them is a kid show. Their jokes are nothing but stupid stand up comedy shows talking trash about politics and religion. I couldn't sit there and watch and in 20 minutes I took my entire family and got out of that shit show. The theater is ran down, dirty filthy chairs and carpet and the show was nothing but a match to this place. If you want a Christmas show at this theater be ready for an offending show. Stopped in on a Monday night for a performance of "Pirates of the Caribbeaner." I didn't know quite what to expect having read the website. I am pleased to say that I was pleasantly suprised at the performance. It was comedy improv and it was done very well. Very family-friendly, with humor for all ages. These guys apparently perform a rehearsed-show three times a week and then on the weekends they hold "Laughingstock" which I take it is straight-up improv. The Monday night show is a steal at $8.00, which is 50% off the regular price. I'll stop by when I'm back in town again! read more

We went and saw Sort of the Rings last night! The open-minded comedy made the show! Tree guy, legolass, Sam, and Golem rocked! This is a parody/improv theatre so you have to go into it with that mindset. read more

Don't come here expecting a Broadway production; hence the name, Off Broadway Theater. Do expect to have some kicks and giggles at knock offs of movies, TV shows, Utah and pop culture. If you don't take this place seriously, you'll be entertained like I always am. OBT offers corny parodies and cheap laughs in a small yet comfortable theater. Their costumes and special effects won't match those of a Transformers movie but if Michael Bay is your thing...OBT probably isn't. read more

We just went to see The Revengers.. awesome show! The cast is absolutely wonderful about improvising with mis-cues and prop malfunctions... they had us rolling on the floor. I have yet to walk out with any kind of complaints. This is definitely not high brow entertainment but you are guaranteed to have a good time. Not what we were hoping for. We went to see Star Ward. The costumes, sets, and props were extremely low budget. There were a few funny lines but overall, this "comedy" didn't do it for us. Came to SLC one weekend for a fun trip and while looking for some things to do while there, we came across one of the shows here, the Jurassic Park City show. I have never been to a live show of any sort so I don't have much to compare it to, but this place exceeded my expectations. We had so much fun at the show. The actors were great and I loved how they got the audience involved and improvised at times. They were super funny and the show was cute and family friendly. The tickets were affordable which was a bonus. I will definitely be returning my next trip to SLC. read more

I saw Dracula versus the Addams family. I really did not appreciate a lot of the humor in this play. I thought the company was not as sensitive to their audience. They were little kids in the Audience and the play was full of sexual innuendos which I did not find appropriate. The company also poked fun at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. These jokes showed no class and no respect for the church or its members. I will not be returning. They also made fun of other groups in Salt Lake which I did not appreciate to get there. It is too bad because they are very talented and the rest of the show was funny, but those jokes completely ruined the play for me. read more

Attended the earlier improv show on Saturday. Go with an open mind and you're in for a great time! Quick wit and think-on-your feet comedy. Laughing Stock - Ad. was a great show I laughed so hard. If you want something different to do that does not cost to much money this is great. It is a family place. A night of good fun. Family friendly comedy. Ihave been to 6 plays and never disappointed.

The play was great and funny, for the amount of time we stayed, we loved the performance and there was hardly a crowd. Then we found out why there was hardly a crowd. There's a man with large black hair and dark rimmed glass, a bit older maybe 50y/o, who was so fake when we walked in. I called later and asked for his name, Jonathan King. He said he has worked there every week for years. I don't know why they would hire him or if he has some kind of mental illness. He was trying to tell my young beautiful daughter funny stories and jokes in an obviously flirtatious way which is super weird for someone his age to be doing to a young girl. This happened right in front of me at the concession stand and she felt very sacred by him. Her intuition told her something was not right with that guy and so did mine, we both felt it. Maybe he's a child predator or a sociopath who hides it well from his coworkers idk. He thought he was so clever. Then something even weirder happened. He came in during the performance and sat right behind us. He leaned forward and asked if we were liking the show. My daughter felt scared and walked downstairs to a restroom. She said he followed her into the lobby, but not downstairs. When she came back up from the restroom he tried to overly compliment her. She came in and told me what happened. We left immediately and she was shaky. We didn't get to finish the show. It was an awful experience for my 14 year old daughter to experience with this creeper. She looks 12, she doesn't look like an older looking 14 year old. I would not recommend this place to anyone with attractive daughters. Do not go on Mondays no matter how much less it is. It's not worth the dealing with that employee. If you're a woman you'll most likely understand this kind of creeping some men think is acceptable. A friend of mine I told this story to said I should have called the police straight away, but I didn't. If this happens to you, I hope you'll take better care than I did. read more

I went to their "Laughingstock" improv comedy show, and it was great! Clean humor for (almost) the whole family. A couple of times they did edge towards some borderline innuendo, but they got it right back "on track." It's only about $8 or so per person and there are student discounts. My wife and I laughed and laughed at the satire "Ivanhoe: Knight Fever" at Off Broadway Theatre. My wife and I are impressed with how Off Broadway Theatre manages to be very funny and very clean at the same time. When trying to be funny, one can be sorely tempted to be crude, but Off Broadway has NOT yielded to this temptation. Lesa and I have seen many plays at Off Broadway, and have enjoyed everyone of them - laughing and laughing at their satires. And Off Broadway has created great humor and fun without being crude or dirty. read more

I love this place! I make sure I get on the front row because the actors interact with the audience. My kids (ages 10-13) always have a blast at this place too. Great actors/actresess!
