Amazing! Such a neat store! This was my first time going to a local owned bookstore and it did not disappoint! I'm a fan of Corvids (crows, ravens, jays, etc.) and always have trouble finding things with them. As soon as I walked in, I saw them. The most amazing crow bookends I'd ever seen. I also got some tiny crow figurines! Will definitely be back for more cool stuff!! read more

Dream Girl and I made another trek to Oxford to enjoy the atmosphere, good meals on the square, and our favorite bookstore, Square Books. This time we went down the street to Off Square Books, too. It's a great used bookstore with a wide range of tomes; there was something for everyone. They have a good selection of used Southern material with some quite valuable, I suppose, as it's locked up, but it can be seen if you want. There are also many books priced right and we bought a couple. I am cautious about bookstores these days as I trying to de-accession my collection, not buy more. Of course, I always succumb and this time was no exception. There are chairs around where you can spend time browsing. I recommend this place for any book collector. Just drop down when you are at the mother ship; you won't regret it. read more

This bookstore is a must-visit in Oxford. Was there for a reading my wife conducted there and automatically fell in love with this shop. A community staple, with 3 locations including a children's bookstore, new and used items if various likes, qualities, and of course genres are well represented; I got three books myself, including 2 scifi books. Its also ideal for readings, with a small stage that is sized and modeled prefectly for that space, primed for subjects to present their works and perspectives to audiences. read more

I love all the Square Books, but joy filled my southern ole heart while perusing these stacks! I found Marrs' bio on Eudora Welty for 8 bucks! Plus, I found a little game called Banagrams. Within the cloth banana peel ($15) are tiles like scrabble pieces that you flip upside down and take 21 pieces. When ready one hollars "Split" and everyone flips over their tiles and begins to create crosswords! It doesn't matter how many times you take from the "bunch" everyone finishes at the same time, and it is a matter of who places the last piece into place that wins! Hollaring out a big ole "Bananas"! Sensational bargains (classic novels and other offerings that are nothing but inspired), a great staff (Al is all knowing and wonderful), great kids stuff...great used books ET al. Spent a happy hour with this well curated collection of "lifestyle books". Good gardening and excellent cookbook section; my husband disappeared into the history section and emerged with something he hadn't read - that doesn't happen often! Very quaint, very clean, and extremely organized. Great shop for trinkets too! If you are there, take the time to check out their hilarious socks! Al is a huge help with an excellent personality/customer service demeanor. She was a huge help and even stayed open a few minutes later than usual the second night we dropped in. Great series of free public readings by authors, superb art books and niche publications. This is a really special bookshop and definitely worth a visit. read more
