Let me preface this review that I was stuck on a boat with a Clemson fan for 4 hrs. and being a Bulldog fan brought its own challenges. Lol. However, I wouldn't want to fish with anyone else after today. OTHC was punctual at the dock awaiting our arrival this morning and my boys were very skeptical before loading up to go fishing this morning. Primarily due to prior experiences which equated to really expensive boat rides. As we push off from the dock we head to what I will now call "The Honey Hole" I realized very quickly that Capt. Ben was going be a lot of fun today. In the world of fishing there are signs from the fishing gods that will tell you it is going to be an EPIC day. When a beautiful spinner shark crested the surface 100 ft. In front of the boat it was going to be EPIC. Before 8:30 We were anchored up and lines wet. Things get a little cloudy after that as we were to busy catching fish to have time to remember anything after that, except which pole was going to produce the next "screama"... I have been fishing with different charters throughout the HH area for the last 7 yrs. and I am deeply regretful that OTHC wasn't my first call. But I can assure you it will be my last and only call moving forward. I think parents will understand this best, when your kids can't stop talking about how many fish they caught and how much fun they had the entire rest of the day it was an EPIC SUCCESS!! Captain Brian took us out a few days before Christmas, and from the beginning of the trip, we knew that it would be amazing. He was at the dock way before us, his boat is meticulously clean, and Brian has a great personality and demeanor. We set out to catch the big redfish offshore, and the ride out was wonderful with Jack Johnson playing through his stereo as dolphins jumped all around us. We found the birds and dolphins offshore, and found the big redfish due to Brian's experience, knowledge and clear passion for the fish. As a female angler, I truly appreciate how Brian treated me like my husband and dad out on the boat. He was super helpful if I asked for anything and would instruct me if necessary, but also really let me enjoy the experience to the fullest. We caught Redfish both on fly and with heavy spinning rods. Brian is extremely knowledgeable about both types of fishing. I totally understand that a fishing charter is not a guarantee for catching fish, yet we were extremely lucky on this day. Stars were aligned for this PERFECT day! It started with a PERFECT sunrise and glass river ahead. Twenty minutes later Capt. Brian picked his spot, maneuvered the boat into position. With out a ripple on the glass water glaring at us from the low rising sun. Bam!! He hooked the first fish while I was working the kinks out of a 5-year hiatus from a fly rod in my hand. He kindly passed me the rod to boat my first Red ever. It had the shaking of a Big Blue Fish and a pull of a 25 pound Striped Bass. PERFECT!! An hour later on a second spot we had tailing Reds on the edge of a slack tide just changing. Again Capt. Brian put us in PERFECT position on the edge with the tide and fish working towards us and waited. Bam!! This time it was me and the fly, who duped my Red into striking. First on a fly! We booked another trip with Off the Hook Fishing Charters because every time we have gone out for a trip, we had success. I am not sure how Captain Brian pulls it off year after year, but he has a great on the water network and pinpoints where fish are located. This year was no exception. We started with catching some fresh bait and then anchored in the sound for some reds with the incoming tide. To our surprise we caught everything but reds! In two hours we landed a Sting Ray, Hammerhead Shark, 2 Reef Sharks and a Bull Shark. It was amazing! Shortly after that we pulled anchor after Captain received word from one of his guys they were on some reds. After a quick 5 minute ride, we anchored and within 30 minutes we boated 3 reds totaling 70-75 pounds. The largest was just over 30 pounds and it was the biggest one his boat had landed year to date. It was a great experience as always and I would recommend Captain Brian and his crew for any group that is looking for some good fishing. read more

I booked a morning with Off the Hook Fishing Charters for my 10 year old son and I to kick off our week on Hilton Head Island. Communication with Capt. Brian was timely and he was waiting and ready to go when we met him at the dock. We did a quick run to an inland stream and just as Capt. Brian was explaining the habitat and nuances of the tide, we saw a number of redfish head right towards us. We spent most of the morning working our way up the stream and landed a number of redfish, a couple of serious size! In addition to knowing right where the fish were, Brian was extremely knowledgable about the island and gave us tips for fishing in an around Hilton Head during the rest of our stay. He also provided us with awsome pictures of our fish. We had a great trip with Capt. Brian and I will certainly be ringing him up on our next trip to Hilton Head Island. read more

"A Fishing Trip to Remember" Went out with Capt. Brian for a morning fishing adventure on 8-09-2017. This is the second time we have gone out with Capt Brian and once again in was unforgettable. We went out looking to catch some nice fish and ones we haven't caught before. Capt Brain set out to find us some Tarpons to catch/release. We got to see Tarpon surfacing very close to the boat and in natural habitat. After catching a few sharks and a sting ray which we released we were able to hook up and huge Tarpon. This is the biggest fish I have every caught and was amazing to get it to the side of the boat, snap a few pics and release it. Such an amazing time. Will definitely come back to Off The Hook Fishing Charters in the future. Highly recommend if your in Hilton Head booking a trip with them! read more

I have been out with dozen of guides throughout my life on both fresh and saltwater and none have the level of skill, likability, and downright awesomeness of Captain Brian. I've fished with him 3 times and have enjoyed every moment. My wife came along on my guided trip this year and had a great time. It's a blast chasing so many species of fish and it's convenient fishing inland since you get on fish within minutes instead of long hauls to deep water (which cuts into your fishing time). Another trophy fish in the books! Every year I fish with Captain Brian with Off The Hook Charters, we target a different species. And each year, it exceeds my expectations. The hard fighting Jack Crevalle has been on my list of species to catch for quite a while. It was an awesome treat to land one of these magnificent creatures on a top water popper. Had such a great trip! Spent the last day of our Hilton Head honeymoon on the water with Capt Brian Vaughn. Had a great morning watching the sunrise and enjoying all that nature has to offer! Thanks to Capt Vaughn fishing expertise caught 2 large bull red fish pretty close to the start of the trip! Also caught a few bonnethead sharks and a few other friends! This was the best fishing charter I have ever taken! It was by far the best day of our vacation. Captain Brian was awesome from the day I booked until we got off the boat. Charter was a blast. Caught lots of bonnet shark which we took a few back with us. Captain Ben was very knowledgeable and accommodating. We had taken our 89 year old father in law ( who caught the biggest!!). Note..he gets around like a strong 75, so don't this try this unless you have the stamina to fight and land large gamefish. We did a five-hour trip with this charter today, and it was a great time. We visited four different fishing spots, saw a bunch of dolphins, and caught s bunch of fish (lots of sharks and a few other types).
