Our group really enjoyed the charter with Capt. Richard. I have been on over a dozen private fishing charters and I must say that this ranked up at the top. His laid back attitude combined with a high degree of professionalism and customer service was a great match for us. The season we went out was best for sharks so we decided try that out for the first time. My wife and 2 brother in-laws were out for a 4hr trip and each caught 2 sharks, one of which was a large 200+lb nurse shark. Just before our time was up, Richard noted that we were hitting a good time of day so he agreed to get one more on the line before went in. It was clear that he genuinely wanted everyone on the boat to have a memorable experience. 15min later, we got a bite that turned into a 2.5hr fight which we had to rotate across 3 grown men. It also dragged the boat for nearly 3miles. I was the unlucky one who had the real as it finally neared the boat and broke the line. We got a glimpse of its just before it must have wrapped itself in the line under the boat... We were beat for the day but it was most certainly worthwhile as Richard was great company and kept us on the shark for a surprisingly long time. We will never know exactly what it was but he suspected it was a Tiger shark well north of 700-800lbs. When I make it back down to Hilton Head, I will most certainly contact Tallboy again. Rich is an all around awesome guy. We were in Hilton Head for a wedding/mini vacation. Myself and 5 other guys in the wedding party decided we wanted to do some saltwater fishing. After some breif online research we decided to call Tallboy Charters. Not only did we want to catch some fish, we really wanted to drink a few tallboys at sea. We called Captain Rich with about 12 hours notice and booked a trip. He asked what we wanted to catch and how much action we wanted to see. We basically decided that we wanted as much variety as possible in a 6 hour trip. Rich provided us with just that. We started our morning by catching 3-4 small sharks and 2 HUGE cow nose rays. The rays took us a good 30 minutes a piece to get in, talk about a work out. Then Rich put us on some big red fish drums. All 6 of us got to reel in 2-3 30+lb red fish. All of the red fish were well above the slot limit. We then decided to try our hand with trolling in attempt to take home some fish for the grill. We ended up taking home about 30 blue fish and spanish mackerell. All the while we had plenty of time to throw back a few tallboys and swap storys with Rich. Not only did Rich put us on a ton of fish, he also showed us a great time. The next time I make it to Hilton Head I have no doubt in my mind that I will be booking a trip with Captain Rich. My wife and I went out for a five hr trip with Captain Richard (Rico) and first mate Adam on 9/28/2017 and I came back to the dock totally wore out. Can't ask for more than that. Even though we were hoping for some Bull Redfish and not really trying for larger sharks first fish was 125-150 lb Nurse shark. 45 minute battle for this old man. I was ready for a little rest but a big red hit on another line and then a smaller shark than the first and another Bull Redfish. Then line started stripping line off the reel like a rocket. By the time we started to give chase the spool was really low on line. I regained line until I let a little slack in the line and it snapped right away. Captain said it was probably 350 to 500 lb Tiger Shark. He correctly called every fish by the way it took the boat and fought long before it was brought to the boat. I was content troll for about five lb Blue Fish at this point and caught about ten. I sure could have used my grandsons to help bring in some of the fish. We probably would've caught more 3 Fishing trips out of HHI. This was my first on Tallboy as will be my next. When a fisherman's hands cramp for a couple hrs afterwards you've had a great fishing trip. read more

My father and I had such a great time out on the water with Tallboy Fishing Charters that we decided to come back for a second day and I am so glad we did. We've gone on many fishing charters all around the US and this was by far the best we've ever experienced. Captain Rico and Adam were extremely friendly, fun and laid back. They knew exactly where to go and how to make it a successful and pleasant few days day. We caught 30+ bull reds within four hours alone. We were getting so many bites that we had to pull in a couple of the poles. We also caught many sharks and whiting, which we used for bait and dinner. We took them directly to Hudson's seafood house, that's right at the dock, and they cooked it up for us. An absolutely delicious, fresh dinner! From initial response time, q&a, directions and planning, Tallboy Fishing Charters was a good as it gets. Great all the way around. I do 2-3 charters per year and working with Captain Rich falls into the top rate category for sure. We had a party of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids). Everyone caught fish. Captain Rich and his mate helped our least experienced and offered pointers for our more experienced fishers. We had planned for a 4 hour trip out to the reef. Captain had great spots and we caught Sheepshead on the first couple of attempts and it kept going. I told Captain Rich I wanted a memorable experience for the kids and he absolutely delivered. Great experience. Booked a 3-hour charter with my daughters. Richard asked, based on their ages and the level of waves, where we would like to spend our time. Stayed in Port Royal Sound and were catching sharks within minutes of casting. My girls caught about 6 "hot dog" sharks each. I landed a whiting fish, small reef shark, large reef shark (50 lbs.), and a good sized blacktip shark. Richard is very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. He was very engaging and taught us a lot too. The bait was ready when we showed up in the morning. As the day of our trip neared, he kept in contact and was upfront and honest about the fishing/weather conditions, allowing us to cancel or reschedule if we wished. Capt. Richard and Adam gave us the best experience in the world. We went out 30 miles and had a great time. We brought in fish after fish. There was six of us and we all caught fish. This is our 2nd trip with Richard over the last 5 months. I wouldn't go fishing with anywhere else on Hilton Head. The boat is clean and well kept. Richard makes sure that you have a good time and catch the maximum possible. We caught about 40 fish including 5 red drum fish (which are huge) this last time. He is professional and very friendly.
