When it's impossible to find an associate for help you have a problem. When you finally locate what you need on your own and get to the register to find no employees to ring you up then you have a bigger problem. When it takes five minutes for someone to show up from the back room to check out customers then you have a huge problem. With such bad service here I can only assume that shrinkage (theft) is a huge problem. Not a good business model and not a good place to shop. read more

step in to get help, employee was on her phone, by the register, no employee at the copy center, when I interrupted her texting, to ask for help, she had the manager step in as other employee was absent, or running late. manager apologized indicating he had no idea how to run a business (the copy center), indicting employee was on her way. After waiting 30mins, employee came, and attended someone else, even after manager stepped in to indicate I was here, first. Decided to take her, and design a whole business card for her. I stepped in, and instead of reasoning with me, or at least turn the machine on, she tells me it's going to be sometime before she can assist me, as the machines were still off. Manager couldn't even handle a simple task of turning all machines on, not even the employee at the register could step in and turn them on, instead just on her phone waiting To be interrupted by someone like me. As she takes 30mins to actually attend me, 1hr later, its. As if this is her first day on the job, training is horrible starting with the manager, everyone should know how to step in. Then she ruins my order, instead of finding another solution, she just tells me what would be a better solution, it took her another hour to complete 3 prints, I was there for 2 hours with continuous mistakes. She saw me cry with frustration, still trying to assist other clients, in between, why can't they wait an hour like I did?! They have to find a better solution, sign in sheet, more employees, better training, manager should be fired. read more

This is the worst place to get good quality service. The Lianna person who attended me today at 11am in the morning. She calls me at 12:48 am to tell me she couldn't get the happy Birthday banner. She had me waiting at 45 mins. She was able to take my order and than pushes me to the side to take care of another customer and I waited again! She had some man with her and was able to attend his order but wasn't able to do the same with me. Very poor customer service! read more

I need to make monthly trips for office supplies. I stock up for a while. I always head over to this location. Even when I move away from this location, I will still frequent this location. The staff here are very friendly and helpful fot it being a big box store. Several of them even know my name and they always greet me and go out of their way for me. They always seem to have what I ma looking for and I have never encountered something I needed being out of stock. It is a very rare occassion that I ever find the shelves messy. I am also a member of their Max Perks program for businesses and they are constantly sending me coupons and discounts. read more

It's the first day of high school in our area = the day kids hear from their teachers regarding what they really need. We walk in to Office Max and why oh why do they only have 3 cashiers working while several additional employees are walking around tidying up??? Tidy up after the store closes, people! Look at this line, this is the worst customer service I have ever seen and the worst management decision I have ever seen. I love shopping for office supplies (yes, I am easily amused) and this is where I go to procure the majority of them. They have everything I need and then some. This particular store is always clean, almost to the point where one could eat off the floor. The only drawback is that the staff is not exactly the fastest. The last two times I went there, a price check was needed, and it took them about 15 minutes to get it done. But I will also say their copy and binding service is outstanding. read more

I ordered something to be printed online. Went to the store and apparently there was a "copyright issue" because it had a star wars character on it. Which has never been an issue before. The payment was processed, but they refused to print it, and didn't even bother to call to let me know before getting to the store that they wouldn't release it. Then the manager says "well, you would have known if you had read the terms and conditions." Horrible service. Go to a different location. read more

I wish I could give this place half a star. I waited at the technology customer care desk for 15 minutes to be helped. It's not that no one was around its that the group of workers parallel to where I was waiting having a conversation about who worked last week. Absolutely ridiculous. They looked over to me multiple times but still continued conversation. That being said I walked over to the printing desk and asked for a manager, the girl working the desk called him on the radio and he came right away. By that time I was so shocked that the workers just stood there and had a conversation when all they had to do was radio in the manager or anyone to help. I am never going back here especially after I have this place a second and third chance. Save yourself sometime and frustration by going somewhere else. read more

I feel pretty terrible leaving this review. The staff is so nice and helpful, really really friendly! But, they are not very knowledgeable about what is going on. I definitely think training could be much better! I went in to make a custom stamp and I'm telling you it was the weirdest experience by far. Not a single person had a clue on how to proceed or what to do or even if the stamp came with ink. It was a pretty bad experience. It eventually worked out, but mostly because I was non stop googling the answers while they just sort of starred at each other wondering how they would answer next. Again, they are very polite and the store has a lot of options but I'd recommend the training gets a lot tighter. read more

We called a head to have an item put on hold. When we arrived the item was waiting for us and the cashier gave us an in-store coupon on an item that was already on sale. Earlier in the day we'd purchased the same item at a different Office Max and the cashier made no mention of a coupon. I'm not a bargain hunter, but I appreciate employees who extend discounts when they're available. As a former retail worker, I know the game is usually not to mention a discount unless the customer mentions it. IMHO, that's not the way to create return customers. read more

I went in for a printing item. When I arrived at the store printing section one gentleman was checking out and another woman was being helped. The woman was taken care of quickly and I was being assisted. My items were printed and I had asked for them to be cut. There was a team member leaving and the MOD was assisting an older couple that came in after me. I was in the store for 45 mins. During this time the staff in printing ended up also having to be cashier. He took about 6-7 customers while leaving me standing there with my 2 year old who was getting impatient. The MOD Nancy walks over to a register to take the older couple she just helped and some other customers. I walk over to explain why I am frustrated and asked her how much longer I would have to wait? Her response was "we are doing YOU a favor!" WRONG! I am a paying customer and you are doing your job! You do not dare tell a customer you are doing them a favor! I did them a favor allowing them to cash out all those customers while I waited 45 mins or longer with a crying 2 year old and all I needed was 4 sheets cut! She was rude, yelling at me in front of other customers. So I had to yell back with my child there. It is not the customers fault you are understaffed! You also do not stop helping one person and leave them their for that long while taking many others. Never again! I'll take my printing needs somewhere else! Nancy obviously needs to go back to manager in training classes! read more

My family and I went to the Office Max in Hodgkins, IL today to try and exchange my Uncle's computer who purchased the computer on November 1st and suddenly passed away on November 4th. We cannot access the computer because it is password protected. When we tried to exchange it, the woman we spoke to at the store, Carol, was very rude. When we told her the reason for the exchange she said that was not a good enough reason for a return and said, "I can't take back a dead man's computer. I can't resell it," even though we are within the 14 day return period and my uncle had purchased a 2-year warranty. My family and I were very outraged by her lack of compassion, rude comment, and all around rude attitude. She walked away from us several times while we were speaking to her and continued to roll her eyes at us when we asked for her name and store number. She further refused (by again walking away) to take care of our other business of returning unopened, unused speakers. We would like to give the computer to my uncle's son who is starting college because this is what my uncle would have wanted. And to say right on the receipt that "OfficeMax has been named one of 2012s World's Most Ethical Companies." I can certainly say my family will no longer be doing business with "the worlds most ethical company." Furthermore, the company headquarters said they needed to speak with the store manager first. They are the head office! After further complaint they said WE could call HP for a restore disk! If we were less ethical and lied by saying the computer was simply broken, they would have taken it back with no question. Instead we have to deal with an unresponsive corporate office and rude employees amidst our grief. Bottom line - don't buy from Office Max! They are very rude and we are not satisfied with the customer service! read more
