Disclaimer - This review is ONLY for the "Lumpiang Prito" (Vegetable Eggroll). My family and I have been ordering Offie's lumpia for years and a necessity at all of our family parties. They're crispy and stay crisp, never get soggy. Even when they're not warm anymore, just throw them in the oven (NOT microwave) and it'll taste the same as the first batch. These suckers are huge - about an inch in diameter, 3.5-4 inches long and 1.5 inches thick; definitely not your average Filipino lumpia. They sell at $0.60 a piece and worth every penny. They are a party in my mouth, lip-smacking, heaven on earth pieces of delight. It's the only food that has vegetables that I'll willingly eat. My mom would always order extra to set aside for me and I could easily eat 5 of those in one sitting. According to my mom, you have to call in advance to order them and they get super busy so you need to follow up the day before you're suppose to pick them up. You can also order them frozen, but I personally like them already deep fried. There's something about how they cook them that I love so much and cannot compare when deep frying it yourself. I was throwing a surprise 75th birthday party for my mom and since my mom is usually the one who does the cooking, we had to find a caterer. The caterer had to be able to cook some good Filipino food that my mom wouldn't be able to say was cheap tasting (but since my pockets ain't deep, had to be cheap!) I called multiple spots around the area and decided to take a chance on Offie since her yelp had the best reviews and prices the most reasonable. I thought I was paying a little bit more for the quality but turns out, the portions were huge! Large sized trays of pancit bihon was $60 and were the 20x12" sized trays and they were deep! We also ordered a large tray of ginataang and chop suey and they were a hit!! Next time, I'm going to order all the food from Offie! She is a busy person so it was a bit hard to get a hold of her at first and I felt bad asking her so many questions (although she was never rude about it.) She has two numbers- I think one is a business phone and the other an after hours cell phone? I was a little upset with the whole thing. First, let's start with the good stuff. The communication (through text) was pretty smooth for the most part, I paid for the order a couple days after talking to whomever (this was about a month in advance). The lumpia was so good, the pansit was good. Don't know how the sisig was but it definitely didn't go as fast as the one I had during my baby shower (was from MJ's Pinoy Fiesta). Now that leads to the bad.. The Sisig was supposed to be presented in the belly part of the Lechon (or so I thought it would be) because I asked for her to use the belly of the whole Lechon to make the sisig because having a whole one plus the sisig would've been too much pork at the party. The sisig came in a tray and the Lechon looked like it had been wearing a corset because the waist was so small. It looked weird. And the delivery guy even commented saying how it was a bad decision but the person placing the order wanted it that way, so they said whatever and did it and how ugly it was. Thanks, I made the order, don't need your comment uncle. But also, if they had issues or concerns, WHY NOT CALL ME?!?! So that made me mad. The valenciana (paella) was bad. It had the consistency of mochi. The rice was so sticky. I was super disappointed in it. And the kicker was THEY WERE LATE AN HOUR AND 15MINS!! NO ONE reached out to me. I even texted "Offie" and no response. Oh! But they were so quick to text me at 6am and ask me to pay for the $25 delivery fee. I was amazed that they did that. We paid about $680 for the food and then there was STILL a $25 delivery fee. I thought they had already added the fee because it was written on the receipt. Guess not. We had our baby shower a few weeks ago and I wanted to have Filipino food for the party. Rather than ask my family to slave away and help cook for around 150 guests, I searched for a caterer which seemed more practical. I found Tita Offie's business and the reviews looked promising. I brought my parents with me to her location to help me order because although I know and eat Filipino food, I don't always know what they are all called. Tita Offie was great. She talked to my parents forever as if they've been friends for years. Already, I can see that she has been in this business because she truly cares for her customers. The food was delivered to our party on time (which is always a plus). As we set out the trays, not only did they look good, but they smelled good. The buffet line formed right away. As hostess, I didn't get to eat until later, but my guests were really happy and complimented all the dishes. When I finally had the chance to eat, it really tasted homemade. I don't know how else to describe it. The flavors were on point on everything (pancit, lumpiang shanghai, chop suey, bbq chicken, grilled pork belly, pork and chicken adobo, and all the other food I forgot the names of). I think it's because Tita Offie does not have a self-standing restaurant, that she can focus on the rich flavors of these catered dishes. Had Aling Offie cater our daughter's baptism reception last weekend. We could not have found a better caterer, the guest were raving about the food and asking who cooked all of them. She is perfect for all occasions not just Filipino gatherings. Her roast beef was moist and tender and very well seasoned. About a month before my son's baptism, I contacted Offie about catering our party. The grandparents were very particular about having a lechon at the party. I was informed upon my inquiry that they are able to accommodate my order. When I first placed my order, I gave ALL the information regarding where to deliver the food and who to contact. I also informed her that I needed the food to be at the venue by a specific time. I assumed all was in order. I decided to contact Offie the day before the party just to make sure everything was all set. I was surprised when she asked me for the address of the venue. She also did not have the contact information for the person helping me at the party. I gave all this when I placed my order. I was even more shocked when she told me that she didn't realize that they were delivering the food AND that there will be an additional charge on top everything she's charging me. (I had assume what she quoted me when I placed my order included the delivery charge.) However, I was ok with all these discrepancies. After our conversation, I was under the impression that everything was all taken care of. After the baptism, my family and I drove to the venue to enjoy the party. Everyone was very excited about the lechon, especially the grandparents. When I got there, I was told the food arrived on time BUT there was no lechon. I immediately called Offie. Offie informed me that I never placed the order. She said that I inquired about the lechon but I never actually placed the order. I was immediately floored by this ridiculous comment. I have witnesses who heard me actually place the order with her for the lechon. She told me that she did not charge me for the lechon, therefore I shouldn't be upset. She basically made it sound like it was all my fault. I was dumbfounded by this unprofessional demeanor. I would expect a catering service company to be more customer service savvy. However, despite the lechon screw up, the food was very tasty. Contrary to the one Yelp comment, the food did arrive on time. I just wished they took my order down correctly. They said they called me that morning to confirm if I will in fact pick it up and since I didnt answer they didnt make my eggrolls. First of all, when someone is ordering food for catering, its expected that they will be too busy that morning prepping for the event to answer the phone. Secondly, they didn't call me with the business number. The used a personal number so I didnt recognize it. I was on a strict timetable and they completely messed it up. Filipino food is common in L.A. but Tita Ofie's Catering is way above average. The food is exquisite. Everybody in the party is happy with the taste and amount of food. Aling Ofie is easy to talk to although i was a bit disappointed with one of my orders - Chinese Broccoli with Beef, the one that was delivered was only Chinese Broccoli, but then again it was delicious.
