While I live closer to other farmer's markets (which I love and frequent!), there is something about the Ogden Farmer's Market that feels special. In comparison to the next largest, Salt Lake City's located at Pioneer Park, Ogden has SO MUCH (FREE) PARKING. You will never struggle to find a space (the bane of every visit to the former market). The market itself is at least as large, too, maybe larger, and while I think SLC might have marginally more produce, Ogden definitely has more crafty, artisan sellers. The set up reminds me a bit of Park City's Park Silly, as it runs down Historic 25th Street, so not only do you have the farmers market itself, but there are all the fun surrounding small businesses as well. You really could spend a good 4 or 5 hours here, if in the mood to do that much shopping! On my most recent visit, I parked at the DMV, which placed me right in the middle of the market. Ogden locals suggest parking near the amphitheater. I was happy with my spot though, and I started near the park where they do yoga at 9am each Saturday! It did not appear too crowded (plus, there is loads of grassy space), and in the future I'd certainly take part. I met my mom and sisters here, and we each found things to get excited about, plus loads of samples! I loved seeing so many cut flower sellers and picked up mushrooms, dried cherries, and high quality locally raised beef. My mom bought all the baked goods (which I then got to eat, yassss!), fresh veggies, and lovely whipped honey. My sisters got snow cones for their kids, we met an alpaca, and everyone had a great time. Many of the sellers at SLC are also found here: Intermountain Mushrooms, Volker's Bakery, Tagges, Paizlee's Grass Fed Beef, and Beehive Cheese, to name a few. So many people bring dogs, and both customers and vendors here truly seem a little extra friendly. There is no shade (except at the park, which would be a lovely spot to take a break, or enjoy a meal), so make sure to plan accordingly as, even in September, I got a bit warm, slightly sunburnt, and definitely would have appreciated some water after two hours of walking around. This visit coincided with the last weekend of the summer season (Saturdays from June to September), but there is both a fall (smaller, located at the amphitheater in October) and winter (indoor at Union station from Jan-Feb) market as well. I have yet to check out either, but see their website for more details and give 'em a shot. I love that there is sufficient demand in Ogden for these additional dates!

This is a great farmers market that's about 5 blocks long down the middle of the historic district. There is everything from fresh farm produce, baked goods, street food vendors, and craftsmen selling everything from jewelry to furniture.

However, much of the products that our local grocers stock may also carry implications of poor farming practices. So, we try to shop local, both to ensure peak freshness and the highest ethical standard we can. Better Food Farm is a local, Ogden-based family farm using organic practices. We were lucky to try a large haul of a variety of their leafy greens (including herbs, spinach, red leaf lettuce, salad spring mix, spring onions, bok choy, and the most vibrant gorgeous radishes you've ever seen) this past week. If you think you won't be able to taste the difference between their spring mix and the kind in the plastic clamshells you get at the store, you'll be in for a serious surprise. Everything was incredibly flavorful. Also, there's something about fresh radishes that "conventionally" grown radishes can never live up to (I put conventional in quotes because, well, according to history, modern growing practices are anything but conventional). I swear you can taste all the passion and care this family puts into their produce. In speaking with the family behind this little farm, they're going to be at the Salt Lake City Farmers Market so I recommend that you look for them there.

I'm currently obsessed with these turnips. They are juicy... sweet... buttery? Yup. Buttery. Careful, you might have a hard time going to the grocery produce section after this.

This one was almost all produce, with a few other things mixed in. We visited yesterday for the first time. There was an information booth giving away free masks if you didn't have one and they were playing music. I love music-it always adds to the mood. It would have been even cooler if it were live music. I'm sure there are some musicians in the community that would love to be showcased. The vendors themselves were pretty far apart from each other. I think that was due to social distancing-which I appreciate. However it does make it feel a little disjointed. But we do what we can with this 'new normal' stuff. Overall, the vibe here was a little weird. I'm not sure if that was due to the lack of people, the space between everyone or what. I think adding a few more vendors with a titch of variety (please, no MLMS) but maybe some handmade soaps or jewelry might add some more character. But if I'm looking for pure locally grown produce, this is a great place to get it!

The South Jordan Farmers Market is relatively new, but judging by this morning's crowd it's definitely a success. Lots of folks walking around checking out the fresh produce, prepared foods, and other local offerings. Vendors line the little "main street" area of the South Jordan Towne Center which is closed off to vehicles for the market. There are only a couple dozen booths--mostly produce with a few prepared food and plant sellers--so don't expect a huge variety. You can also duck into any of the shops there in the market; it's kind of a unique retail/farmers market partnership. Parking is a little tricky. There's plenty of it, but the layout of the shopping center gets things jammed up when you're close to the action. Better to just park across the lot and hoof it a couple hundred feet. I got there just after noon today and a lot of the growers had already sold the bulk of their harvest. I managed to get some good looking nectarines from a grower in Genola and took a chance on some early pears. I will say that prices here were a little lower than I've seen at a couple of the other local markets. The SoJo FM is open from late July to the end of October from 8am to 2pm each Saturday.
