Seriously? I'm not a usual winging customer and moreover I usually don't leave the reviews, but this time I thought I take time and leave a review. I've just paid $40 for literally dry (!!!) haircut which is not even straight! For background, I am blond European-looking girl with thin long hair. And it is first time in my life I got a dry haircut!!! I've asked a woman (who doesn't speak proper English) if she'd like to wash my hair, she said no need and then I asked her if she at least wants to spray them, she said there is no need as well (the alarm should be flashing here now, but I decided to proceed). She explained that she cuts the hair dry first and then Irons it to check if anything needs to be fixed. I've asked why just not make it wet and cut straight (especially assuming she wanted to iron my hair without any protection and my hair is already damaged due to multiple times it has been died). Anyway, paid $40 for no blow dry, no wash...just very ugly unprofessional cut. This place might suit for asians, but not for caucasians. They saw how much I was disappointed with the cut but kept on smiling and got my money. WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN.

The décor is a little old, but that doesn't really bother me. It's located on Rundle Mall, and so a very easy stop if time is on the essence and you want to make yourself look pretty. For shampoo though, I found this place to have lower prices and a more extensive range of brands. As soon as you walk in, the staff will come out from behind the counter to greet you and ask if they can assist you in any way. This always happens without fail, no matter who is in charge on that day, so I find the service really good. I also got my ears pierced here once upon a time before Hairhouse Warehouse opened, and they were really good about because I'm such a sook. Apparently, the hair cuts here are good but a little expensive, especially for mens cuts - $32 - when you can get them for around $20 and just as good elsewhere. Although I have never had my hair cut here myself, most of the times I've been in there were mostly suits and older people getting their haircut, so I imagine perhaps Cross Cut has a straight, professional style in their cutting. Anyway, they are located across from David Jones in the mall, so they're really easy to find. The range of shampoo and conditioner here has to be my favourite thing about this store.

In terms of service, they are quite friendly and helpful considering their Rundle St location and high-end style. The prices are not that bad either. Walking in, you are greeted with a smile and directed to the waiting area with comfy sofas and a selection of magazines to flick through. Then, the hairdresser that is going to cut your hair will approach you and sit down to discuss what you want done. This can be a slight shock to first-timers as it can feel a little in your face and like a job interview. Your belongings are then safely stored in a locker, while you get your hair washed and head massaged. There is also a widescreen television so you can watch MTV (although who would want to watch TV while getting a massage?) My hair has always come out looking good (if I do say so myself) and I've never had any disastrous experiences here. They did have student discounts, but, like most other hairdressers they can get a bit carried away by their own creative flair and end up styling your hair the way they think it should look, not the way you asked for it. Overall though, it's a pretty good salon.

I ended up changing my mind from my original plan and going for an ombre colour change which I'm super happy with. Obviously what sets Miss Coiffure apart is the open bar aspect - we enjoyed spirits and delicious Bird in Hand sparkling rose during our appointment which was a fabulous way to start our evening, although I'd worry about people doing a Felicity after a few tequila shots! After the colour and cut, our hair was finished off with a proper style rather than just a blow-dry so we were ready to hit the town. We enjoyed our experience thoroughly and can see the potential for an excellent hens activity or girls night out in future.

My first time here was great, my colour was perfect as was my cut, but my second experience left me leaving disappointed and I felt like I'd been tricked into paying for more services than I thought I was agreeing to. Turns out I had the head stylist on my second visit and she is very pushy. While she does a great job at my colour, she always offers her opinions in a way that makes you feel inferior. Plus she is very good at sneaking in extra charges. I went in with a booking for a whole head of foils, I get 2 blonde to 1 dark brown. As I was telling her this, she jumps in saying who about instead of the dark brown, we go with a caramel? This sounded good and I agreed to it. When I got to the register the total was well over $230! The whole head plus cut and blow dry is only $185. It turns out she did a whole head of foils blonde and coloured the rest of my hair caramel. Two different treatments! After this experience I was hesitant to go back, but I did and this time I made sure I was very specific with what I wanted and it worked. I managed to tune out her advice (thinly veiled comments about hair damage to get you to buy products) and I got what wanted. They have good prices and a good service, just be prepared to be very specific if you want to stick to a budget.

The salon itself is quite large but not intimidatingly so, with a modern fixtures, lots of fresh flowers and lots of people (both customers and stylists). This is one busy place! I had the usual small talk with the stylist as she trimmed my hair - and while she did an OK job, there wasn't a huge difference as I left the salon. I do have reallllly long hair which hairdressers can often be afraid to cut, so I wasn't super surprised. It wasn't cheap - paid around $80 for a wash, trim, blowdry, and my hair looked good when I left but as mentioned it wasn't a huge difference from when I walked in. I also asked about colouring when I was in there, but was put off by a quote of $200+ so never followed it up. They had to go and make the layers too short, the fringe too short (for my liking anyway), resulting in my hair looking limp and thin. Even after they blow-dried the hell out of it. I was suprised and disappointed, considering they are a big, busy salon with many locals. Maybe it was just my bad luck, and I happened to get a newbie or something. I don't know. They were really expensive too. I usually go to Gritti Palace which people say is expensive, but they do a really good job so you get your money's worth. And even then, they're still cheaper than Orbe. After my experience at Orbe, all I can say is... Lucky my hair grows quickly.
