The Good: *Admission is $16 ($14 seniors and vets) for the museum and tour or $8 for just the museum. *Some nice displays in the museum of historic rail antiquities. *Friendly staff *Touring the rail cars is always fascinating, and they've done a great job refurbishing and keeping them in good shape. The Meh: *Smallish souvenir shop to pick up a few gifts and/or souvenirs for train lovers. The Ugly: *Touring the rail car in the summer is just a downright awful experience. I mean, they try their best to cool off the trains with AC, but it's like spitting into the wind. I was schvitzing more than a turkey in November. TLDR: Not the best train museum I've ever visited--and I've visited a LOT--but it was a good way to kill a few hours and didn't break the bank.

I'll never stay here again. And seriously, what is with all the artificial perfume in the lobby and hallways? If you're trying to cover up smells, try cleaning! Try baking soda! Try airing it out! You can't just spray five cans of air freshener at it every day! I shudder to think what it's doing to the staff's endocrine systems...

Candlewood and Holiday Inn Express are both parts of the IHG Hotel group which means they share the same loyalty program. We were looking for a hotel in the Bowling Green, KY area and were hoping to use reward points. That's when we found the Candlewood Suites. Being an extended stay hotel means that all of the rooms had a fully equipped small kitchenette with a small cooktop, a full-size refrigerator, microwave pots, pans, dishes, utensils, etc. In addition, there are other small appliances (blenders, slow cookers, etc.) available for loan in the lobby. Also available for loan are a variety of DVRs and board games. There is also a free laundry available for guest use. A small convenience store in the lobby offers a iimited selection of frozen and other microwavable meals plus snacks and beverages. The room was spacious and very comfortable with a large desk/table and a very comfy lounge chair. The hotel was very clean, very quiet and the staff was very friendly. Don't let the idea of "extended stay" make you avoid certain hotels. This was a very nice place for a 1-night stay.

There's no air getting to the bathroom so best to take a cold shower to heat from overheating. One of the reviews from 2024 mentioned the price differences, and this is still true in 2026. The prices on the website and in real life are a bit more expensive than the menus, so if you want the true cost of your meal, pay attention to the online menu. The zoo isn't large, but it's big enough to spend a morning or afternoon there as a family. If you have mobility issues, golf carts are available for rent, but if you're in good health and wear the right shoes, you can easily walk and cover the whole zoo. The zoo has a few hills (it is Kentucky) so do wear comfortable shoes and prepare to walk unless you rent a golf cart. My favorite parts were petting the kangaroos and also seeing the sheep dog demonstration. Do pay attention to the times for demonstrations and animal shows; they are worth seeing and the times are a bit limited. You can also feed the goats and interact with the animals, which I enjoyed. We also toured the underground cave, which was a lot of fun but involved a lot of steps. Some of the steps were wet and steep, so be aware of that if you have mobility issues. If you're a parent of young kids or a person who enjoys animals and nature, Kentucky Down Under Adventure Zoo is a great attraction and worth a visit. It's not too far of a drive from Bowling Green, and a lot of schools and summer day camps visit on field trips.

We did the cave tour - you can tip the guide at the end, we didn't know and didn't have any cash on us. We enjoyed the feeding the Kangaroos and Emus. Some things were closed because of rain but it didn't stop us from having a good time.
