I came to Kentucky action park so one of my kids could get a horse back ride. I don't remember the last time they smiled so hard. We did a 1 hour tour, which goes through the woods and circles back to the stable. My youngest was even permitted to take a horse herself (6yo). The staff in the stable were so kind to my wife and infant who stayed behind, even bringing out toys and entertaining them with the horses there. My daughters and wife loved the alpine slide. My go cart throttle broke down on my first lap, but they gave me another with some extra laps. I wish they had yellow horse tee shirts in my size. Those ones were the coolest. read more

This was our 2nd stop of the day on our family trip from Nashville. After leaving KY down under we went here. My wife rode the Alpine slide. It was a quick stop for us. For only $5 she got to ride the ski lift to top of the mountain and then ride the alpine slide down. She really enjoyed both parts. Really good deal for only $5. She was nervous to ride but when she finished she could not stop smiling. The staff were friendly but seemed occupied with each other more than the guest. Loads of fun, lots to do! We loved the alpine slide. It's a great bargain! 5 bucks for a "sky ride" up the mountain and a fun winding slide down the mountain side. Many of the other attractions are a little pricier. The go kart track is pretty small and underwhelming... everything is a tad run down for the pricing. It would be nice to have some shades waiting spots. The summer Kentucky sun is relentless. The zipline is one of the longest and fastest in the area. In all fairness we didn't go horseback riding or utilize the bumper boats/track etc. We stuck to the slide and zip lines. It's a fun little family run spot worth a visit in the area! read more

Totally worth the stop! We did the chairlift and alpine slide and had a blast. The people there were all friendly (well, except for one who apparently got up on the wrong side of the bed that morning). It's no Disneyland, but they aren't charging Disneyland prices either. It's just good, clean (well - really, mildly sketchy...) fun in the majestic hills of Kentucky. Also, I read the quest book in the pizza place and it was filled with kids handwriting about how much fun they had. So that was cute. Made me wish we'd tried the horse riding. That seems to be a big hit there. read more

Arrive early to enjoy the day! My family and I enjoyed the chair lift and Alpine Slide. Nice views from the chair lift and relaxing. The Alpine Slide was fun although I have to admit as your sitting there waiting to take off your a bit hesitant. Once you get going, it's a blast! My only complaint was the lady selling the pictures for the slide. The lady told us we could purchase pics if we liked them at the top. This is not true, we got to the top and we're told the pics were in the office down below between the top and Alpine Slide entrance. So just be sure if your interested in getting pics ask where to look at them and purchase. There were other activities such as zip lining, etc but we did not participate so I am not sure how those are. Stop in and check this place out! read more

We came here for an hour trail ride. It was just okay. I loved the horse I rode (Kermit) but the trail itself was poorly maintained. The mud was a good six inches deep in some areas and I was afraid my horse might twist his ankle. I also didn't like the way the handler spoke to the horses. He would threaten that he was going to beat them if they didn't behave. I wasn't sure if he was serious or not, but either way it gave me a sour tummy. There seem to be better places to ride in the area, but this was the only one we could get last minute reservations at. Now I know why. read more

Sssssooooo we took a 3 hour drive down to mammoth cave and they were sold out of all their tours!!! We did the short self tour and it lasted 40 minutes. We thought the trip was a lose but I had been their 20 years ago when I was 8 years old I remembered Kentucky Action Park. This place was even better than I remembered!!! I was with the girlfriends family and they had a blast doing the all day pass from the slides, bumper cars(fastest ones I have ever done), go carts, mini golf. Overall this place is the best thing in the area! If you need something to save your trip this is the place!!! I will say it could use some touchups to help it look a little better. I think nothing changed in the 20 years haha but overall LOVE IT!!! read more

We came and just did the chair lift and alpine slide once. It is a good deal for 5 bucks. I was terrified of the chair lift, but that has more to do with my fear of heights than the facility. the alpine slide is a lot of fun, and I can see why people would want to do it many times. The people were very helpful and friendly. There is a lot more to do here, and if you want to ride the slide many times or do a bunch of things here, the day pass for 30 bucks is a decent price. It is a little older. I am very glad we stopped. Riding the alpine slide and being brave enough to do the chair lift were some of the highlights of our trip, and it was cheap. :) the place is close to a lot of other cheesy touristy things, if that is your thing. We spent a fantastic Easter afternoon here! Everyone was so kind, laid back and fun! They make sure you know the rules and that you are safe, but everyone wants you and your family to enjoy themselves. On our drive to Mammoth Cave from breakfast at the Cracker Barrel, we passed through a sad stretch of road full of shattered small business dreams. We counted five closed mini-golf courses with themes ranging from the 50s to Hillbilly Holiday. We saw shuttered bumper boat pools and defunct gift shops. In the middle of all of this, we stopped at the Mammoth Cave Wax Museum. While we debated spending $11 a person to go through an attraction that only had one other car in the parking lot, we decided against it. We filled the morning stopping to look at the other surrounding busineses, closed or not. This romantic weekend was turning into a complete bust. Then, we happened upon Kentucky Action Park! As teens, Alexa and I LOVED going down the Alpine Slide at Ski World in Brown County, Indiana together. LOVED IT! Now, we had a chance to ride it again. It didn't matter if we missed our time to pick up tickets for the Historic Tour of Mammoth Cave (We didn't) or that we thought they had all been torn down for being incredibly unsafe. There was no choice. This was our romantic weekend where we needed to reconnect as life partners, not just business partners. Had I known there was an Alpine Slide, we would have just gone to the area to ride it and relive one of the things we enjoyed together as kids. While it was quite reasonable to ride at $5 (including going up the ski lift), we would have paid far more than that each to experience the joy of riding without safety equipment down a steep incline on roller skate wheels. After a leisurely, enjoyable ascent up the picturesque hill, we arrived at the Alpine Slide start. After a few instructions, ZOOM! We raced down the hill at full throttle with wind whipping through our hair as we tried to bank the turns. We were both laughing and full of smiles, the memory of the evening's hotel stay debacle fading into the background as we had fun. NOTE: I am laughing out loud as a I type, because it was soooooooooooo much fun. Do it. We should have ridden it again. As we had to hurry along to make sure that we didn't miss our tour of Mammoth Cave, we weren't able to experience any other activities at Kentucky Action Park. It was a busy place, though. The zipline, bumper boats, and riding stables were teeming with families enjoying the long weekend. The bathrooms were clean. While many might think that the ski lift could use a coat of paint, we thought seeing the colors of years past added to the experience. Riding up the ski lift was the turning point to our weekend--taking it from something we were soldering through to a great weekend of love and fun. read more

We did the horseback riding, zip lining, chair lift and alpine slide. We came on a Saturday and it was very hot (about 100 degrees). Ricky was the first person we talked to there and he was very welcoming and friendly. He explained where to buy which tickets and answered all of our questions. The activities were fun and we did enjoy ourselves but the trip was ruined by some of the other unfriendly staff members. The employees at the top of the chair lift and the alpine slide were so rude! They would not take time to explain what we needed to do, made sure that we knew they were annoyed with us and they even made fun of my friend because she got off on the wrong side of the lift (because we couldn't hear them talking to us.) I dreaded going back up there after the alpine slide for the zip line and I almost just didn't do it even though I had already paid. Another issue we had was with the horses at the horse riding stable. They looked dirty and tired; I felt so bad for them! The heat was 100+ that day and they had the horses tied up in direct sunlight with no water. They were already sweating and tired before we even got to ride them. I have been to other horse riding stables that take much better care of their horses and I would recommend going somewhere else for this activity. Overall, they do have fun activities for families here but the park is a bit run down, and so are the attitudes of many of the staff. This is supposed to be a family friendly fun park and it should be a requirement for the staff to be friendly and patient with people who have never been there before. The rudeness of those staff members will cause us to never go back or recommend this park to others. read more

Only got to ride the horses for half and hour. It was fun and the guides were nice and kept you entertained. They also played the cowboy part well. Word to he wise, the park closes at 6 everyday, even during the summer. We did not have enough time to do anything else so we were alittle let down. read more

The park itself was fantastic. We REALLY enjoyed all the different rides and activities and cave tour. The horseback riding is what we had issues with. It was my husband and I, my 16 year old son and my 6 year old daughter. We all had our own horse and asked for horses for beginners/novices. My husbands horse kept trying to turn around and not follow the path but the scariest moment was when my daughters horse bucked and took off running full speed and she was holding on for dear life to the reins and hanging off the side of the horse. I was screaming thinking the worst but thank goodness she was fine. Then later we saw another horse buck a little girl not much older than my daughter off and she flipped and landed on her head and the ambulance had to be called. I don't think we'll EVER go back to that again. read more

This is a great little fun side stop. We had done Mammouth Cave, eaten and were joking about stoping here until we googled it. We went back for theAlpine Slide and had a blast! It was the best $5 per person we have ever spent. They actually have good deals for a whole day or also family passes. Lots to do here too. I'm kind of scratching my head at all the good reviews of this place. Kentucky Action Park is a tiny, shabby carnival that basically sits on a hot parking lot with only a few things for the kids to do. And for my granddaughter, even less than a few things due to her small size. I planned a stop here because we were arriving in the late afternoon for a visit to Mammoth Cave planned for the next day so Kentucky Action Park was just to pass some time. Their website makes it look better than it really is. All day bracelets are 25.00 but after doing the same rides a few times my grandchildren got pretty bored with it. They did enjoy the rock wall. The smallest one got to do that as well. They loved the zip line and it did look pretty awesome. But the zip line is extra and at 45.00 a pop they only got to do it once. My granddaughter wanted to go horseback riding. But the temp was appx 97 degrees. I wouldn't have ridden my own horse in that kind of heat and so I wouldn't let her put their horses through that misery either. Other than Mammoth Cave, there isn't a lot to do in the area except for the tourist traps that line the highway so it was better than nothing. read more

Good stop for kids!! For $25 you can stay all day and ride all kinds of things. It's not comparable to a big theme park, but it def kept us all entertained. The Alpine slide was crazy fun!! After taking a cave tour, and a great BBQ meal, we weren't sure we wanted to rise an Alpine Slide (or do anything but sleep). Even though it's a little rough around the edges, we had a great time for a very reasonable price (the slide was $5 per person). We also did the Go Karts, which was also fun, even with only 2 of us on the track. I don't know if I'd plan to spend the day, but it's a good way to kill an hour or two. read more

It is outdated, dirty, and very run down. It looks nothing like the pictures here online. The cabins for have blankets from the 70s in it. The cabin do not hold 6 people. It is a full size bed lumpy & old, a twin bunk bed set & a twin futon. Very dusty, very run down. It has abandoned trails & abandoned house by the cabins. It's really rough. The park looks really rough & not safe. I was very disappointed. read more

This place was so much fun. My family of 5 enjoyed the zipline and the alpine slide. We did the slide at least a half a dozen times each. We enjoyed the bumper boats, bumper cars, rock wall, and go carts. The guys that led the zipline, were awesome. They were very patient with the smaller kids. My husband got a free admission for being active duty military and the man sincerely thanked him for his service. We would have stayed all day, if we didn't have to move on to our next destination. read more

This review is for the Alpine Slide only. This was by far the coolest alpine slide I've been on! $5 for a very cool ride on a ski lift to the top, and an even cooler ride on the slide down. Then you get back on the lift and it takes you the rest of the way back. We did this on our way out of town and I wish we got the unlimited pass to do the slide more than once! Alrighty, I'll do a little "review sandwich" here - I'll start with the good, then get to the bad. For the good, a $35 family pass was more then enough to entertain our family of five, and this was a completely magical birthday day for my seven-year-old. My 7 and 9 year old were in absolute heave and we all had a blast. But...let's put it this way - back in the 70s this place was probably top notch. And, it is probably still functioning on all of the original equipment. Think incredibly worn out carny ride type of atmosphere. The people working there didn't hesitate to tell us how broken and worn out things were, and to show us their scars (yes, serious scars) from injuries down the alpine slide (it's made of fiberglass - don't put yer hands out or it'll bern ya!) More than the faulty worn out rides, however, the biggest drawback here is for the life of me I can't figure out why in the world they are still in business with their customer service being what it is. I guess because so many were able to have fun despite it all. The woman running the desk was one of the must unhappy people I've ever met, and made it very clear what an inconvenience we were to be coming in and (gasp) giving her money. She got royally pissed off because I upgraded our horseback ride from a half hour to an hour - and she had to use white-out on her notepad to mark off what she had written. We tried to let a little sunshine in, but 90% of the workers there were just downright sour people, chain-smoking and pissed at the world. The other 10% wouldn't talk to you. Our horseback ride was not only like pulling weeds to have a conversation with our guide, but the horses were NOT gentle ones for beginners. My husband put down that he was a novice rider, and was informed on his ride in "yeah, we weren't sure what your horse would do - he's new, so you were the guinea pig." Another one of the horses was clearly sick, sneezing and farting the whole ride, and pretty skittish (that's the one they chose to put my father-in-law and my 7-yr-old on) - they couldn't lead because we were informed the horse would run off and not stop if he was in the lead. So - I would NOT suggest horseback riding unless you are an experienced rider who likes asshole horses. I would also not suggest really doing it because it's not much for view or fun. I also wouldn't suggest going if sour people will keep you from having fun, because apparently this is the place to hang for negative attitudes. Lastly, I was told that the campground had only one spot left for full hook-ups - like I needed to book right away. We arrived, and there was literally ONE camper there. Yep, there are only two full hookups, no bathhouse, and a portapotty in a field. They keep all the broken down junk bumper cars and boats in sheds around the property there. Now, all of that being said, it was nice having an empty campground, a big open field to play in, and cheap rides to enjoy. The time there was fabulous with our girls - our youngest learned to ride a 2-wheel bike on the flat field in the campground, the other campers there were super nice, and we had a blast doing the go-carts, bumper cars, and the alpine slide and chairlift, which we did over and over. As far as good for kids - older ones, yes as long as you're okay with a little danger. Young children, not much to do. My 4-year-old did the go-karts with an adult and rode the chair lift - everything else was too big and dangerous for her (height limits for everything anyway, so even my 9-yr-old was too short but they made exceptions). I don't think it's something we'd push to go back to again, and I'd rather support places that are appreciative and exhibit excellent customer service - we work hard to show our own gratitude and be excellent patrons - I know there are people who don't, but since I work in the customer service industry as well, I know that assuming everyone is going to destroy/take advantage/etc is not the way to serve well - I'd rather go on the assumption that this is a win-win situation for everyone - the patron and the business. First of all, this is the ONLY establishment I've been to in Kentucky that 100% supports the military. Not a "10%" discount, they legit are 100% free for military. I wish I would have known about this hidden gem during my time here, I am more than happy to spread the good word about these amazing people. The place seems outdated on the outside, that has a lot to do with their love for people and families and less than surface level stuff. The old school bumper cars and go carts were nostalgic for me, and it was just damn good old fashion fun! The horseback trails had a 2 hour option I would have paid a couple hundred for. You ride adventurously throughout the Ky countryside, and it was beautiful and peaceful. The handlers here are very loving with their horses and overall, EVERYONE was genuinely all smiles. I gladly tipped my guide $40 and bought the awesome photo packages. We also went on the zip line which was BOSS!!!! Additionally, we went down the alpine slide four times and each time felt more edgy. If I could, I would spend all day there ;) The staff are happy locals with families, they are fun, damn good people and I am so grateful for their support of the military. Knowing there is a wonderful place to blow off steam makes the trenches worth digging. read more

I'm shocked that this place is still open. When I entered the main store, I felt like I was in a creepy ghost town movie. No one spoke to us. When I got to the counter, a man was eating a salad and never looked up. He kept eating and said "Can I help you?", still never looking up from his food. When I told him we were there for horseback riding, he got our consent papers together and dropped some of his food on one of the sheets and didn't even bother to brush it off or get another paper. YUCK! The horse ride was okay, but the trail could have been better maintained. Our guide was great! When we finished we decided to play mini-golf. When I got to the counter, the same man was sitting there and was asleep. I said hello to wake him, paid for the game and he immediately laid his upper body/head down on the counter. The people who worked there were very friendly, it was just a little too expensive for the limited amount of stuff they had. We bought wrist bands for everyone, which was $150 for the whole family. We (myself, my wife and 6yo) stopped on the way back from mammoth cave and wanted to go horseback riding. We got our tickets and fitted our helmets (provided) and waited until our ride. Fun place. Ricky and his people made sure we were comfortable, safe and had a great time. Very pleasant gentleman, Ricky told us stories, takes about his riding championships and showed us the lovely trails and land. We had a marvelous time and will be back when in the area again. It's really not a place for shorter children. Mine are under five and they seriously could hardly do anything. We went horse back riding and our guide had an accident where he was thrown from his horse and knocked unconscious. Blood was gushing from his head and then he tried to lie about it when he came to. He didn't even want to go to the hospital. So my kids had to witness this nasty accident AND they were a little crappy about our refund when we were too uncomfortable to finish the trail. If you ride, where a helmet. Even this experienced dude had an accident that could have been minor had he been wearing a helmet to save him from the tree he hit with his head. Most of the staff are teenagers. Rude ones at that. The staff have no issues with smoking around anyone, even little kids. I give it three stars because the rest of the place looked as if it would have been fun had we gotten to try it. My husband did zip line down the mountain and had a blast. But we won't be going back.
