Would rate these guys 6 stars if i could. Our group was large with 15 people (7 young kids) and we were so well taken care of throughout the 2 hour class. The teachers were excellent - extremely patient, helpful and encouraging. They took photos using drones, long range camera on shore and some other fancy camera in the ocean with us. Honestly I can't rate this place any higher. I have never surfed before but the teacher was amazingly patient and gave great direction. I was very tense and this was messing me up. The teacher spent several moments teaching me to relax and showing me how to correct my surfing. The group meets right in front of where they teach you. After a short on land basics tutorial they get you right in. If you follow what they teach you you'll do fine. The crew also takes videos and pictures which are available for purchase afterwards. I did the two pictures/videos for $20 which I felt was totally worth it. Both picture and video made me look more awesome than I really was :) If they can get me actually up on a surf board I think they can get anyone to surf! Thanks guys! read more

I had my 3 kids for individual lessons and all the instructors were amazing, patient, and had great attitudes. My kids are 17, 13, and 9. They didn't learn how to surf after 1 lesson, but the experience and memories are priceless. Don't do the 1 hour lesson because that's just not enough time. Great experience! The staff is very friendly and competent. The park they start from is very convenient with restroom and restaurant facilities. Also, a lot of shade and seating. This was my third time trying to surf in Hawaii but this was the only time that I felt like I learned what to do. We signed up for a private instructor for 4 adults, but there really was a whole team of guides; at least 5 plus a photographer snapping both stills and video. The 5 min. video intro was easy to understand and they followed the outlined protocol exactly as presented. This made the flow of each person's "turn to catch a wave" very smooth and interactive without being too strenuous or too lagging. I highly recommend Ohana Surf Project. There are other surfing schools that I also inquired about but ultimately I'm glad I went with them. I'm ready to try it on my own thanks to Ohana, but I might come back for a touch up lesson anyway. WORTH EVERY PENNY! We purchased surfing lessons for our family of four (ages 50, 43, 11, and 8). No one in our family had ever surfed before. Our instructor, Kevin, made sure we knew the basics before taking us out into the water. We followed his instructions and we ALL were able to stand up. Purchase the unlimited photo package! Chelsea was there on the water to help guide us and take pictures. I'm not sure how many people from their crew were taking pictures (at least two), but we received 163 photos and videos! read more

The whole Ohana Project staff made you feel just like you were part of their ohana. They all had super chill vibes and were great at their jobs. We signed up for our first ever 2-hour SUP (stand up paddleboard) lesson and it was awesome! We had Chealsea as our instructor and she was super rad. She was very patient with us when we were struggling, and taught us the SUP ropes for us beginners. Chealsea made sure to also capture all of our great moments from our lesson on her go pro. We were able to view both pictures and videos after our lesson and had the option of purchasing them which we could not pass up. My parents had their first visit to Hawaii, and I booked a lesson for them (67 & 68!!) with Chelsea at OSP. It was their first time surfing, and they could not say enough great things about Chelsea! And she worked super hard, even towing them out every time so they wouldn't tire themselves out paddling. Had an amazing time! I am now a surfer! Cole taught my husband and son how to surf in just 2 hours. Started with a safety video in their van followed by stretches and dry land surf skills. Then off to the water to catch some waves. Chelsea took great videos and pics as well as the crew on land. After we were able to view all the photos back on the big screen in the van for purchase. The surfing coaches were very good at teaching, I was able to stand up on the board on my very first wave! There are many people out in the ocean and other suffered from OSP would follow you around to take videos and photos. The videos are photos are very good quality. However, they are a bit pricey. I would recommend getting the entire album instead of picking out only a few because the whole album is the better deal, especially when you have a family of multiple people read more

Born and raise surfing on Oahu this company is I feel one of the best around with respect to professionalism and the overall experience especially for first time surfers. Surfing Instructors were very focused on our technique so we were all able to catch waves. There were 6 or 7 instructors out with small groups and all helped us at some point on how to stand up, paddle, understand the waves, and understanding of the ocean. Kevin got my family of four on at least 40 to 50 waves in our 2 hour lesson. Also, Queens beach is a perfect place to learn. Shoes and rash guards are provided to keep you protected in the water and from the sun and it's 15 minutes from the majority of Waikiki hotels. They use go pros to capture photos and videos so you don't have to worry about trying to do it yourself (small additional cost was worth it). We did a lesson at the beginning of the week and one as the capstone for the trip which I highly recommend since the second session your body and mind will be ready to take it to the next level. If you have kids under 12 or 13 they can go out with an adult and they keep a good eye on them but should be good swimmers. Aloha! read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to Elle and Evan who were our instructors for 5 of us, both personable and lovely instructors who gave out cues after every attempt to ride a wave, Elle who for a while did some one on one work when she saw my little sister struggling which eventually allowed her to ride her first wave! Evan was also extremely helpful giving off a great energy and both seeming like they wanted to be there which overall improved the experience. Always finding things to converse about as we waited for the right wave. This guy who referred to himself as 'Chino' wasn't our instructor, but was extremely funny also giving off those aloha vibes. My daughters and I wanted to try surfing, and we went back to the beach where we took our first surf lesson. We saw the yellow bus and gave a call. They were able to schedule us for a 2-hr lesson next day, and we had a blast with Matt and the other instructors. Patient and positive teaching, even when my out-of-shape/new-to-surfing arms had a hard time paddling. They documented the whole thing with GoPros and we got the photo package.
