Our pet Gus appears very relaxed and comfortable with each and every staff which is such a blessing especially when he needs his vaccines. He walks out after his vaccine series and physical exam like nothing happened. It really means a lot to us finding an excellent clinic that do take their clinic name in a literal sense "Ohana"... My dog was initially brought in after we noticed a small lump on his belly. During that visit, the vet expressed concern and performed a needle biopsy that indicated it was a mast cell tumor. She explained that it needed to be surgically removed and sent out for further testing to determine whether it had spread. This immediately made the situation feel urgent and stressful. We proceeded with the recommended bloodwork and scheduled the surgery. On the day of surgery, I had an important question about whether my dog may have eaten something prior to drop-off, which could affect the procedure. I called the clinic multiple times that morning but received no answer. Given the urgency, I drove to the clinic in person to get guidance. When I arrived, the entire clinical staff(excluding the vet)were gathered at the front desk laughing. I explained that I was disappointed that no one had been answering the phone, especially since the vet instructed me to drop off my dog in the morning for surgery. I was told they were in a "team huddle," but no one apologized. Instead, I felt dismissed, which added to an already stressful situation. Because I couldn't get clear guidance, I decided to reschedule the surgery. I later called and requested that the veterinarian contact me to discuss next steps, but I never received a response. After following up again, I was told that my account had been deactivated without any prior communication or explanation. Unfortunately, this was not the first time I've had difficulty getting in contact with the clinic. In addition, each appointment has taken over three hours, which has been challenging to manage. I've been taking my dog to this clinic for a while now and the lack of communication and level of service we received was especially disappointing. Overall, I found the experience to be unprofessional and lacking in communication and empathy. When dealing with a potentially serious health issue, timely responses, clear guidance, and basic courtesy are essential. Unfortunately, that was not my experience here. Dr. Shin is the BEST vet I've met so far. She is so compassionate and thoughtful. I felt very heard as a first-time pet owner and she addressed my concerns for my dog. The rest of the staff is very supportive as well. I called for follow up information and they were detailed and patient. I felt validated and respected as an owner!!! Parking lot and facility is small. They have you wait your car and you are called in when a room is available. Everything moved smoothly. Fees were reasonable and they don't feel money hungry. Other vets will try to get me to do a f/u as I leave. I asked about this and they said they would call to check in and if anything was alarming, they would recommend a follow up. We finally got frustrated with the lack of empathy at our previous vet that we had take care of our pets for 19 years. After my Junior High School classmate who was the original owner vet. He retired and we kept going to the same location, and the service just isn't like it used to be. Our dogs used to look forward to going to the vet when my friend ran the clinic. Now all three of our dogs don't enjoy going to their vet visit. Our dogs sensed something. Ohana Vet Clinic was such a joy to engage with. Everytime the receptionist answered the phone , she made us feel so welcomed. We took our Xoloitzcuintli to her annual exam, and we were allowed to be in the exam room with her throughout her exam and Cytopoint injection. We have been going to Ohana since the business opened. And we've remained loyal to Dr. Uchima to care for our pets even after moving to O.C. Unfortunately, Brenda, the new office manager has ruined our well established relationship. Brenda lacks compassion and kindness; money is her only priority. We were 30 minutes late one time for our dogs annual exam appointment, called to inform them of unforeseen traffic, and Brenda didnt care. She told us we can reschedule, although we were on our way, or come and wait until there was an "opening". Mind you in the last few years, we arrive early to our appointments and most of the time wait 30 minutes or more after our appointment time to be called in. At arrival, 2 other customers were waiting so they weren't swamped. We were charged the walk-in fee on top of other fees and got attitude from Brenda. We're sad to leave Dr. Uchima since she's taken care of all our puppies throughout their entire lifespans, but we can't overlook Brenda's business approach. We'll be going elsewhere. read more

I've left a message days ago asking for them to call me back with information on first round of vaccinations for kittens. I've called back yesterday again to see if they can give me information. Again, I left a message. Called again today and they put me on hold for 10 minutes and hung up on me. Called again got put on hold for 5 minutes and hung up on me again. When I called again asking them not to put me on hold, the person was rude and told me to find another business. I guess this is what it is ladies and gentlemen. IT IS NOT A VETERINARY, IT IS A BUSINESS. They said it was ok for them to hang up on me but not ok for me to call back. Please fire the person at the front desk who is working right now 10/1/24 at 11:00 am. They are rude and don't need to be there. BETTER YET, BRING BACK THE WHOLE JANSEN STAFF. I've been patient for DAYS. I don't care how amazing the veterinarian is. Your staff is a reflection of your practice. TLDR Vetnarian is good, management is greedy. Story time Mainly chose this vet because it was close to home. Haven't had any issues with anything just the usual up selling but they are not too pushy about it so that is fine. But recently my dog was having peeing accidents at night which turned out to be diabetes. Arriving at the vet they told me they would do a urine test then the blood test if it didn't work. Doctor came out and was told he had high levels of of sugar in his urine and that was that. They went though the procedure and offered to show how to inject insulin for $50. At the time I wasn't thinking clearly, since I was concerned with my dog's health, so I agreed but honestly it was something I wouldn't pay that much when I can see it for free online... So that was annoying but nothing big. Got the bill and paid for it but didn't go though it. After seeing the charge on my card I saw I was charged for the puppy wellness (blood test) which I thought was a mistake called and asked and they said yeah they did give that test. Which was a lie. Later on they probably copied another dog that had diabetes and said that was the report because during email conversations with the vet to determine the correct amount of insulin. They kept referring to my dog by the wrong name. In the end it was my fault not checking the bill before agreeing to charges but them taking advantage of the situation when my dog is sick just feels disgusting. I leave a star just because the vet is nice and does her best to diagnose problems but I rather find another vet after this experience. read more

This clinic gave my small breed a vaccination I specifically requested not to be given to him. This was discussed with the Vet/Dr. extensively & was noted in his chart. The breeder advised against it & we agreed. The technician that gave him the shot apologized while the front desk person told us we should have said something when they came to take him from the car. I was apologizing to my 3 months pet for failing him & was in distress. Luckily, he didn't have a severe reaction. If anything had happened to my puppy, they would have regretted the day they met our family. But now he is thriving and almost one year old; I still feel the need to warn against this place & feel obligated to leave this review so your fur babies are adequately cared for. They operate with poor business ethics and no care or concern for their customer's time or feelings. But I never submitted it because I hate to talk negatively about anyone, especially someone's business. BUT, after multiple chances and screw ups, I can't hold it in any longer. After taking our dog here for years, we are leaving to find a new reliable office with better business ethics. The lack of follow through by their office reflects their carelessness for our baby. There have been many issues, but below are just 2. 2022: I repeatedly had to ask for them to send the confirmation for our baby's heart medication. I realize they don't care if we are not purchasing the medication directly from them with their marked up prices. Unfortunately, their concern for their profits is impacting our dog's health. And their poor business ethics is what has pushed us to move on from this place. Issue in 2020: So disappointed, we have been going here for quite a while, even before they were Ohana, but our recent experience has us 2nd guessing continuing. "Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. " That is the quote in their waiting room. In my recent experience, I did not get that sense of family. I went in to purchase flea medication, they only sell Bravecto for $82 a pill. Yes, they were doing me a favor by selling it to me since my dog is actually due for his check-up (Mar 31), but with COVID-19, wellness exams/annual exams/and vaccines were obviously put on hold. As other reviewers have mentioned, you can get it online much cheaper (~$57 base price). I've ordered it online in the past and the online company would contact Ohana to verify the RX (no problem). This time around Ohana directed the online company to contact me and ask that I mail in the RX instead of authorizing directly with the company (they gave me a print out of the RX). The online company said only the vet can fax, scan or phone it in - if it is from me it can only be mailed in. Was it because I wouldn't buy it from them at a higher price? Or because they gave me a printout (which clearly states it expires 5/30/20 if they were afraid I was going to abuse the RX)? It feels frivolous and un-Ohana like to cause a delay over this (this process alone took about 3 days). I obviously don't mind mailing it in, but now that is added time; not to mention the added delays with COVID-19. In addition, now we have to take an extra trip out during a stay at home order which just allows another point of contact. Considering they were just closed due to having a staff member in their hospital exposed to a positive case of COVID-19, you would think they would be proactive in mitigating contact. read more

Was looking for a new vet and decided to give this clinic a try. Dr Uchima is great, she takes her time with your kids and to answer all your questions both in person and over the phone. The staff at the front and the technicians have all been great, polite and helpful. Only reason why I give it 3 starts is the prices, they are in my opinion on the high end for some of their services and medications. If you go and need to buy food, medicine, flea medication I would check Chewey/Petsmart first as you cannot return it if you find it way less expensive somewhere else. Services as well, really look at your estimate and decide if you need to pay for it or can watch a you tube video for free and get the same result for non emergency stuff. The second reason, their message when your on hold says you can text them and ask questions but I did find the communication on that end inconsistent specially on important questions, so if you don't get an answer within a reasonable time frame I would call and not wait. read more

The doctors are ok. The only problem I have with them is they give conflicting opinions, such as, your dog cannot have anethesia (because he is too old) and absolutely, he can. Because I never saw them type anything into a medical record that they can refer to, much less give to me. The big problem is the way the office is run. It is April 2025. They still have Covid rules. You check in and sit in your car, while waiting. Clients must get results at their car window. As if it's a drive through! We have waited out there an hour only to find out they forgot we were there. There is no shade out there. No one answers the phone, no one answers texts. I tried leaving messages. To add insult to injury, an automatic text is sent back when you call, asking you to leave a text! Which they don't respond to. Our dog has heart disease. He needs meds daily. When I needed a refill, I never got a response. I had made the request a little early, so I let a week go by. By the second week he was running out. We called, left messages, we begged, we were polite but finally we had to drive over there and spoke to the office manager, Brenda. She was apologetic. We got the meds. A month later, we were forgotten in the parking lot. Again! I worked as support staff in the front office in the medical field for 15 years. I totally understand what it's like when you're short staffed, people out sick, etc. This is not the case here. The support staff are the go-between you and your pet's doctor. If the office is poorly run, you and your pet suffer. read more

I've taken my pets to this clinic for years (over 20 years) and I recently got a new kitten and attempted several calls to make an appointment for them to look at him because he seemed a little off with energy and his eating. So I was placed on hold and waited for over 15 mins each time with no one getting back to me. I then used their suggested service which is the pet desk app and for an entire week they did not bother updating or even look at the request (see screen shot). So I guess it's their way of saying they don't need or want the business and could careless about customer service and peoples pets. Everyone was so nice! Every single staff made me feel welcomed. They took care of my 7 month old Aussie Beagle mix. We came in for some skin conditions and flea medicine, the dr and assist went over all the concerns I had. The visit was fast and Prices were fair. I would def come back for some check ups. My puppy has been on flea medication for months and it hasn't been working and he got a new flea medication this Friday and its working! They took my kitten left me in the car and I want to know what they did to him but mandu got some viral infection from the vets office and this morning mandu passed away at their clinic. We want justice and encourage to everyone to not take their pets to the vet. I am Going to report them as well to better business bureau so they can launch their own investigation for killing our pet. They need to be shut down immediately. Terrible. My original experience with this vet seemed fine however my puppy was diagnosed with giardia and given medicine to help. We were told to bring him back a week after finishing the meds off to be rechecked for the giardia. We did as we were told and brought our puppy back to get checked, this time seeing a different vet. The vet said that our visit was unnecessary, the information we received at our last visit regarding bringing our puppy back in to get rechecked was incorrect. Despite our unnecessary visit being their fault, they still charged us for the check up. It was a waste of time and money. Candidly, a poor vet clinic front office. Doctors are great but unfortunately it's an incredibly rigid and confusing organization to secure appointments around. Here's what happened: My dog, Oliver, has a horrible rash and needed to be seen ASAP. I am an existing patient. 2 weeks out is the first available. They said they'd call me with an app if they had a cancellation. They never called, but thought I'd give them a call to see what cancelled or new availabilities. When I called, they gave me an appointment ahead of schedule! It was great. But... I never got a follow up confirmation or otherwise. Morning of app - called them 3 times to confirm my appointment. Finally got through to confirm the app. Confirmed but... They had a different time than they told me for my appointment. Not a big deal, but annoying. When driving over, there was a massive accident. I suppose this is on me. I was going to be 20 minutes late. Called immediately. They said that was outside of the grace period. Also, I sent medical records twice and they never received them so I wouldn't have to be billed for a full exam and vaxes. They still have not confirmed receipt. A little patience and understanding would be great. At times, things are out of certain folks control. And, it just sucks working with them. Doctors are wonderful. Get organized. I really want to feel like Ohana, but I feel like someone they kinda just met who they don't really like. Guess I'll have to go somewhere else. read more

I would give this vet zero stars if I could. Today was the last straw. We've been going here for the past six years with our Simon, who has a heart murmur and over the past few years I've noticed how hard it has been to get an appointment, to get a call back for questions or refills, and in general just get good care. Now, seeing reviews it appears that they have now have new management. And that management has impacted the level of care the community expects. I noticed it - it's to the point where we've gone back-and-forth between here and another vet nearby because we often don't hear back from them Today we finally had an appointment that we scheduled on Friday. I'm sure they told me was 1045. I show up at 10:47 and there were no cars and they said we won't see you your appointment was 1030 and we have a 10 minute grace. OK I apologized profusely for the confusion, but knowing my dog needs x-rays you would think that they would try to understand but no they said you're going to have to reschedule and we charge a $60 rescheduling fee. I tried to plead my case and the emotionless person talked to didn't even care showed no concern or bedside manner at all. And you know what? Having a senior dog means I need to be comfortable seeing a place more, and with care and concern this is not the kind of place that you want to be when it's just apparent that there is a lack of care here, and a lack of concern, so Ohana, you've lost my business for good. One of the worst vets I've ever visited. Made 3 of my dog's nail bleed during a nail trim, to the point I had to stop it. Obviously untrained staff, worried about selling and profit, instead of the actual animal. Then the front lady tried to explain to me it's "normal" for the dogs nail to bleed during a nail trim.... I've been a loyal customer with this vet for over 11 years. This vet used to be amazing, they would answer calls, schedule an appointment within 3 days from the day i called. Until recently, they are always booked, they answer your call and place you on "brief hold" which eventually ends up being over 15 minutes and suddenly the call will hang up. This recent time I've called over 6 times to see if they can change a bandaid for my dog since she got hurt, over these past calls they've been putting me on hold!! You'd think that with a name Ohana, this clinic would make you feel like you're visiting with family. They'll schedule you an appointment, give you pre-op instructions, only to forget to pencil you down. When you show up, they'll gaslight you into thinking that the appointment was never scheduled. Brenda (office manager) doesn't care about your pet's well-being and only sees each pet as a paycheck. My dog had major dental work at ohana, and a follow-up up appointment was scheduled. When I arrived on time, the clinic was overbooked due to Brenda's poor management of the operations. The level of incompetence is comical. She's probably working there as a favor as a family friend of one of the Doctors because I've never witnessed such a poor example of management skills in my life. We left our dog for 5 hours and they did not complete the post-op follow up and brought him out to us saying, "We didn't complete the post-op but he does have an ear infection. You're not welcome to bring him back. Good luck finding another vet." They should change their name to DTO, Dysfunctional, Toxic Ohana. read more

I've read most of the reviews as either side of the spectrum and am glad and comforted to say after our new rescue's first annual visit, I'm pretty confident in this clinic. Yes, it is old and they're still doing mostly curbside evaluations until it is time for the Vet to meet with your pet. I am okay with this protocol to maintain safety with their staff and its patrons. The cost is really affordable. For the pets who do not have ongoing issues which require insurance, paying the upfront $60 isn't so bad once a year. They did recommend flea medication as prevention ahead of flea season but did not push for us to purchase meds directly through them and even provided some local markets (Costco, Chewy.com) as alt options. Dr. Shin was great with our little rescue and it is awesome they're so close by (walking distance). read more

After visits, they always follow up with a phone call a few days later to see how my dogs are doing. When I lost one of my babies about 2 1/2 months ago, they were very empathetic. Parking lot is a tad bit small and with a awesome team at Ohana Vet, everyone is taken care of in a timely and respectful manner that you don't have to worry about not having anywhere to park. It's convenient for us because we live not even ten minutes away and it's within the neighborhood, Staff and Doctor is very knowledgeable and they make sure to let you know ALL your options and answer any questions you have. What a disappointment! I been taking my dog Foxy who is 16 years old to Ohana Veterinary Clinic for a long time. I called to get a flea pill, which I get on a regular basis for her, and they would not give it to me until Foxy gets a physical. The first available appointment is in 2 weeks, so I asked if I could get the flea pill before because Foxy is itching very bad, pulling her hair, and not sleeping. They did NOT CARE...they indicated NO...NOT UNTIL HER PHYSICAL! I reminded them it's not a new med as I been picking it up on a regular basis for her and the answer was still NO! I would understand if I was asking for a new medication but a flea pill....really! They did not care that my dog would be miserable for 2 long weeks. Covid-19 really has made many companies adjust their policies and procedures, Ohana unfortunately has not made the transition very easy on pets and owners. I had scheduled my dog Nirvana for an annual exam last month. Scheduling was per normal process, no notification of covid procedure changes were advised. This morning I proceed to clinic and arrived at 10:40 for an 11am appt, however no parking was available, so I made three attempts as I had a few minutes to spare. Unfortunately no parking ever opened up so I parked maybe a 5 min walk away and proceeded to the clinic on foot. On arrival, i noticed the door had a notice advising we must remain in our vehicles and phone in. I phoned in, advised the staff I was unable to remain in vehicle as I had to walk up do to no parking and was standing outside in the 87 degree sun (no shaded area nor outdoor seating availavle) i waited 10 minutes for a staff member to come and meet me outside and informed me I would not be able to enter with my dog, however I could wait inside at about a 20 foot distance from the front desk. I kept my hands to myself never took a seat and kept my mask on. Once my dog was out of sight another staff member advised I would not be able to wait inside due covid, I told them I understood however no seating nor shaded area was available. They suggested I park in an unofficial parking spot which required me to drive over the sidewalk, I said I couldn't as I have a very low car. They suggested I block other vehicles, which would require me to back out and in to allow other vehicles to exit. They continued with I could not wait inside. At this point I became frustrated with the obsurd solutions, and simply took my dog and left the establishment. It was a simple situation made difficult, many establishments have adjusted to outdoor shading and seating. Maybe even a phone call 30 min prior to arrival advising of the business schedule and possibly rescheduling prior to causing clients and pets inconveniences. My visit was not an emergency, and would have understood why they needed to reschedule. Simple solutions, before a problem arises would have been great. Expecting clients to wait outside in the blistering sun, offroad on the sidewalk and risk vehicle damage and block in cars. That's just unrealistic, please send all clients a notice of challenges and inconveniences prior to arrival it will allow us all to better prepare and make necessary arrangements. I generally don't leave bad reviews but this one had it coming. I really like Dr. Uchima, don't get me wrong. She's very kind and took care of my dog really well for the last three years since she was 8 weeks old. The main thing is the system in the clinic. For every single time my dog has an acute issue, they would always say they don't have availability until 3-4 weeks later. I understand that appointments are needed but as a clinic, they need to be more aware that dogs can get acutely sick and may need to see them sooner than their 3 weeks. I mean even human clinics would have urgent visit slots for the day. When my dog was profusely vomiting, all they said was they did not have availability and to look for an animal hospital. I took her to the clinic next door and was brought in immediately as a walk in. When my dog had hot spots, they said to just cone her in the meantime because they don't have appointments available until the week after. I called a nearby vet who took her in same day and when we got there, they had to shave her off because it was so bad. And now my dog is pregnant. I called them three weeks before and they finally gave me today's schedule because again... no earlier availability. I was one minute late outside their 10-minute grace period (because friday freeway traffic sucks) and they did not see her because apparently they are strict with the rules. I told them I work 9-5and had to ask my manager to leave early today. And that it's only a freaking minute. They said it's been 5 minutes and I was like, yeah because you pit me on hold for so long. They still said no. I'm like... REALLY So yes, I like the vet but definitely not the clinic. I used to really like this place for my dog. But recently they made me feel multiple times that my pet's care doesn't really matter to them. They are highly unaccessible and unreliable whenever I needed them outside my dog's routine care. I mean, my pet could be really sick and they would probably just say, " sorry no appointments available til next month. It is what it is" I mean, really, some things are just so inconsiderate.
