After 10+ years of patronage and tens of thousands of dollars of investments with this Vet clinic, I wanted to share my recent experiences here! First, I would NOT recommend that anyone take their pets to this location or patronized any of their subsidiaries or specialists' referrals. I will say that the ladies in the front desk area are lovely, sweet people and over the years, I would often bring or purchase them with holiday gifts for their service, however the recent change in Management is horrendous! I've learned that Manny is the "new" Practice Manager and in my opinion is doing a horrible job! I've learned that several clients, including myself, have recently left this location due to lack of accurate information, gaslighting patient for clinical errors and the poor service/response rate from management. I recently called out errors on one of my pet's vaccinations chart and had to provide my own receipts to Manny and team for them to even acknowledge the inaccuracy. He insisted that he was correct until I presented the receipt showing otherwise. This is poor leadership; I never got an apologize for that! I recently had to endure a terrible conversation with Manny today where he was just determined to be RIGHT, rather than engage in active listening, again, terrible leadership qualities, zero accountabilit! If he is in charge over there, I would advise pet owners to steer clear! I have never written anything negative about this clinic until today! That means something. I decided to follow Dr. Sanchez at Animal Hospital of South Bay in Palos Verdes, CA. She is a compassionate leader who deeply cares about the patient and owner. I will only work with providers, referrals or clinics who put their patients FIRST! I had an awful experience at western Vet and the dental group that they referred me to recently. I honestly don't have enough words to describe how thankful I am for Dr. Susan Sanchez. She is truly a miracle worker and a godsend. After consulting with multiple veterinarians--including oncology specialists--every single one refused to operate on my 15-year-old dog, Coco. They either suggested palliative care or told me it was time to prepare for hospice. I was devastated, but I wasn't ready to give up. Then I found Dr. Sanchez. From our very first meeting, she was honest, transparent, and incredibly kind. She explained the risks clearly, especially since Coco has heart failure and couldn't safely undergo anesthesia. Yet, unlike everyone else, she didn't turn us away--she was willing to take a chance. Dr. Sanchez performed the surgery under local anesthesia and successfully removed a large, ulcerated tumor that others said was "untreatable." I prepared myself for a long, difficult recovery--but to my absolute joy, by day three, Coco was running around like a puppy again. Seeing him happy and pain-free brought me to tears. Dr. Sanchez's compassion, patience, and skill are beyond words. She gave my baby his life back when no one else would even try. I will be forever grateful to her for her care, her honesty, and her courage to help when everyone else said no. Thank you so much, Dr. Sanchez, for giving us more precious time with Coco. Western Vet is a decent vet practice, I have used them for many years for the routine stuff- ear infections, vaccines,etc. I noticed that the dr comes in and you talk about what's needed, and you may say you don't want to do something they mention, but when the tech comes in with the treatment plan, everything will be on there and you have to tell them what you want taken off. This has happened repeatedly and tries my patience. What I do really appreciate is that they are efficient and the techs are really nice, the place is well organized. They are also good about getting my dog into a room immediately because he is reactive. read more

Just wanted to give a shout out to western Veterinary group for consistently doing well with my husky Laika . I have been taking her here for over 9 years and she always gets excited to visit. This past Friday I took her for vaccines , annual doctor check up and grooming. Summer heat can be intense for a husky so I really appreciated the doctor checking my senior dog for any potential issues. Also shout out to the staff groomer she did a really good job . I normally wash Laika but shedding season is difficult to control . She did such an amazing job, I could tell Laika was really grateful and happy to brush off her old coat. Lastly the office staff have been really patient and attentive . I was happy they were able to schedule Laika being that I'm terrible with returning calls to confirm. I took my pet here after a fall and just felt like they were taking advantage of my vulnerable state. They wanted $700+ for x-rays when another clinic charged me not even $300. The front desk was unsympathetic to me and made me wait 10+ min after my appointment time. The vet tech was kind but the doctor seemed pushy about hospital stays and blood panel. She said it could cost thousands of dollars. This was when I left to research another clinic. They made me sign a waiver saying I am going against medical advice, which made me feel extremely guilty. I'm sure everyone here is extremely capable and they are trying their best, but unless you are willing and able to shell out thousands on a whim, you're better off looking somewhere else. Thankfully my pet has made a full recovery and is doing fine now. Don't think I will be returning here. read more

We've been coming here for over 10 years now so we've seen a lot of the changes w/ staff & had lots of treatments done including the times we had to get procedures/exams/surgeries & eventually put down our senior dog & to get the first vaccines for our new puppy. We never asked to see a specific vet, so we saw whoever was available, but most of the time it was hard to make an appt if you needed something since they're usually booked up. It was a very discouraging experience w/ Dr. Sanchez when our senior dog was having health issues in her last days & we weren't getting any answers or real help addressing her health issues. We know you were busy but it's your job to be present in the little time we had w/ you. BUT sending off our senior dog w/ Dr. Welton really brought back our loyalty to this place. She was so warm & professional in the short interaction we had w/ her, so we decided to stay for our new pup. However, we had a bad experience w/ the front staff member recently when making an appt for our puppy's health issue. This was the last straw. The receptionist said we never made an appt & instead gave me alternative times w/o any possible explanation or apology for the mishap. "Sorry, we may have accidentally forgot to put it in our records or we don't know exactly what happened but we're sorry for this inconvenience" would've been more than enough to shake this off, let it go, & reschedule, but all I got were blank stares into computers w/ no further explanation or interest. There were about 4 people but everyone was just looking at their computer & didn't look happy to be there. I get it I hate working too & it was the morning, but you're in customer service, so you should be careful about the energy you're putting off. For some time now, no one looks up or greets you when you walk into the door. Occasionally, there's someone nice (Morgan?), but most of the time they are reserved & don't speak until you speak to them. Maybe other people have different experiences, but mine has been that way for a long time every time I came in. I wouldn't just walk in thinking I had an appt, I wrote down the schedule details on all my calendars as I was talking to the receptionist. Please retrain your front desk to have more compassion & professionalism when dealing w/ distressed & concerned pet parents. You are the first ones we interact w/ more than the vet. You make the most lasting impression when we're calling for help. Sad that the front desk is what can make or break your desire to stay w/ the vet. All we need to know is that you care & are trying your best to help, but we don't feel that here anymore. No one looks happy working there. One of the staff: I believe her name is Morgan, is nice but everyone else there seems like you're annoying/inconveniencing them whenever you talk to them or ask something. I've been coming here for 7 years and the last 2 have been declining in overall experience, and today was probably the final straw. They canceled my 2 dogs appointments and said I canceled them. After showing them the confirmation emails for today and the only cancelation being for 3/14 there was still no urgency to make it right. Mynwife and I pass at least 3 other vets to go out of our way to continue going here, but it looks like we'll be trying 1 of those out in the near future. read more

My little rescue chihuahua that I had for a little over 3 months had what I thought was an upper respiratory infection. They got us right in, but they decided very quickly that she had congestive heart failure. They took her in the back and I was allowed to follow. All the vet techs & vets were trying their best to spitball how best to bring our girl out of her spiral. They had her on O2 but I could tell that she was struggling far beyond what was reasonable. Dr. Veit , who is always honest and caring, said what I was thinking. We had to let her go. But before they could get a line in, my girl took her last breath. I was devastated & sobbing. What struck me was all the vets and vet techs were crying too. Dr. Hoffman & Dr. Strauss both assured me that there was nothing I could have done differently that would have changed the outcome. WVG was started by one of the most caring person I've ever known, Dr. Mike Zareski. The vets there now serve their patients with the same love & compassion that Dr. Mike brought to his job everyday. We've been with them for over 10 plus years since they have been at their other location. They are here in Lomita now and closer to us and thankful for that. Their service and staff here are great, very friendly and the place is very clean and they have treats for the doggies. We've taken our dogs here for checkups and although it can rack up $$ they give the best care for sure. One time we had a problem with the flea medicine/pill our dog had for allergy and feel it didn't help at all and the problem kept getting worse so they gave us credit for a free dosage. The company reached out and apologized for the inconvenience and they were nice about it, we appreciate that cause we had already spent a big amount to figure out what was going on.. but it's close to home and we love it here. Our Mookie although hates it but always does well with their staff when it's time for check up. Love how they are respectful when a pet is put down with the candle. we had to put our fur dog down a few years ago and it was hard but it lets others know that someone is going thru the process and to be respectful. I do recommend you make an appointment for earlier in the day, as with all medical / appointment businesses, things get pushed as the day progresses. Still, way better than the incompetent front office staff I had to deal with at my last vet, who couldn't even pronounce "Boo-Boo" (my dog's name) correctly. (Boba. S. M. F. I don't think I can ever say enough good things about the people here at Western Vet Group. We have been taking our cats here since the offices were on PCH in Lomita. What moves me to write this review is the caring, thoughtful way they treated us and our poor old sick Starfox just a week and a half ago. When we brought him in we found he was much sicker than we had guessed. X-rays and bloodwork showed there was only one way to help him; just one way to relieve his suffering. The compassion showed to Starfie and to us on this sad day was amazing. From the front office staff to the doctor everyone was so nice. Never rushing the decision, never rushing anything in fact. Dr. Welton was my vet and I made an appointment with her to check on my cat who has hyperthyroidism and high blood pressure. He is on medication for both. Dr. Welton ordered a full blood panel. When she called me to let me know the results, she only mentioned the hyperthyroidism. When I asked about his blood pressure results, she said "Oh, I forgot to check, we will next time he is here." She FORGOT to check???? It was clearly on my cat's chart that is has high blood pressure and he is on medication for it. Had to pay for the blood panel and now have to pay for another one for the blood pressure medication results. The kicker here is that Dr. Welton was leaving the practice THE NEXT DAY and she didn't say one word to me. I was astounded at the whole situation. And did I fail to mention that I was charged $400 for an exam and bloodwork... Unbelievable! I never write reviews, but I just had to share this to show the incompetence and rudeness of this veterinary clinic. read more

I called to double check my appointment time which I made one month in advance. They LOST my appointment for my kitten to be spayed. I told them in the beginning that I wanted her to get spayed before her heating cycle and the soonest appointment they had was near the start of her heating cycle. Now they said they can't do it. Very unorganized and now my kitten has to suffer because of it. The worst part was I could have found someone else within the one month time span to find another vet who could spray on time. We took our dogs in for their annual check up with Dr. Lee. Dr. Lee was very careful with our dogs as she examined each one of them. Sadly, she said 2 of our dogs were a bit chubby and need to lose a couple pounds. Our 3rd dog was his ideal weight. Dr. Lee provided suggestions on how to get our food motivated dogs to eat more healthy with steamed carrots and broccoli. Plus, she recommended brushing our dogs teeth. Her suggestion of not being concerned about a full brushing, but partial brushing a couple times a week is better than nothing. Super super grateful for this vet group. I am a first time dog mom and my friend recommended this group when I brought my Oliver home. Oliver has had a few issues ranging from allergies, upper respiratory infections, and most recently paraphimosis which was very uncomfortable for my baby. Each time an urgent issue has come up, this group has been very accommodating and they even call a day or two later to check up on Oliver. The vets and techs always answer my questions and they even got him quickly scheduled for his neutering when his paraphimosis continued to get worse. Each time I bring Oliver here, he is always excited to see the techs. Nothing puts me as a dog mom at ease more than knowing my baby is receiving the best of care. read more

I took my sick cat in on a Tuesday because he wasn't eating. Did blood work. All came back well enough for a 14 year old cat. The doctor was baffled and said I could take my cat to an animal hospital but I don't have that kind of money. Two days later my cat started moaning and In 15 minutes he was dead. Why didn't the doctor recommend me putting my cat down on that Tuesday? I'm heartbroken. I don't usually share my negative thoughts & this is my first time to give a business bad review on Yelp, but I'm writing this for other pet owners who are looking for trustworthy veterinarian. My dog underwent surgery & I couldn't even meet the surgeon beforehand. That never happens if a human had surgery, right? The surgeon's name was Dr. Gilman, but another doctor did a pre-surgery consultation. Dr. Gilman was in the back office, but she didn't even come out to greet us. So I specifically told them I wanted to meet her on the surgery day, but that never happened either. I was very nervous at that point, but I dropped my baby off to the surgery anyway. As a result, Dr. Gilman didn't remove the second mass I told them to remove. ("Them" means their receptionists/nurses/technicians... Basically everybody I could speak to directly.) Once we realized we made an appointment to address that to her & when we showed up, they still said "Dr. Gilman is busy. So can we relay your comment to her?". At this point, I'm tired of *relaying* as if it's a game of broken telephone. They need to change how they operate their business. I am going to look for another veterinarian office where I can discuss my concerns to the doctor directly, where I can have transparency, where they understand that my pet is my family member. read more

My husband and I love this place. The staff is always kind, patient, and invested in the health and well-being of our senior dog, Sammy. They have bent over backwards to fit him in for emergent appointments, and genuinely treat him like he is their own dog. The facility is clean and well organized. They truly attempt to make the vet visit a cozy place-- fromkid-friendly movies on, to coloring books, to coffee/tea hot chocolate to sip while you wait on your fur-kid(s). Dr Veit is our primary doc and we couldn't be happier with her professionalism outranks any other vet we have had, and we trust her implicitly with Sammy-- and US! I can truly tell she cares about our feelings for Sammy. Her empathy shines through, truly. Everyone else is amazing too, we love our techs and the front office staff. To put it in perspective, my husband and I moved to Covina in 2020, a good hour or two depending on time of day, and we still bring Sammy to Western. read more

I can't even begin to explain what a godsend the entire Western Vet team is! We have been coming here for 7+ years. Everyone is an absolute loving, accommodating and caring dream to work with. The front desk, vet techs and practitioners! We really like Dr Norman but we have seen multiple Drs there and have never been disappointed! Dr Norman has Boxers himself so it's nice to have someone to level with on the breed of your dog. He is always so kind and understanding. Offers a LOT of solutions to our concerns and his delivery on recommendations and prognosis is always delivered with such kindness and genuine care for your dog. This entire group wants all of your furry friends happy and healthy! They quote treatment plan and pricing long before you get to checkout and treat your animals so you know exactly what to expect and if anything changes during treatments they give real time updates of anything needing to be added or taken off a treatment plan and how that changes pricing. The front office is always so accommodating and kind when scheduling and I LOOOOVEEE hanging out with them while my puppies are getting the best care possible in the back. My dogs don't exactly love the Drs office but the tail wags and kisses speak for themselves! From the bottom of our hearts, thank you to every single person at Western Vet. Over the past 24 years that I have lived in the South bay I have taken my various animals to several different veterinary clinics. Western Veterinary is by far the best I've ever taken my dogs to. The front staff is super friendly and engaging when you first enter. They are super efficient and informative and quite frankly, very calming. My tiny chihuahua had to have oral surgery and I was very nervous about putting her under anesthesia. The doctor went over what would be done step by step. I was called immediately after the procedure and completely put at ease. The staff treated my fur baby as if she was theirs. This is the second time we have boarded our elderly cat, Fanny, at WVG. This time we asked to have her ear examined because she was scratching at it for 2 days. During our trip, Dr. Veit kept us informed of her treatment plan, which included checking her ears for infection, cleaning her right ear, and ordering ear drops. She also followed up on Fanny's renal disease and arthritis. Labs were drawn, and she was given an injection to help with her arthritic pain. When we picked Fanny up, Ryan (boarding tech), updated us on how she did and went over all her meds. When we boarded Fanny at another place a few years ago, she came home angry and terribly upset. These two times with WVG, she came home and acted as if nothing happened. She went right into her normal routine. The girls at the front desk are always so welcoming and helpful.
