Dr. Silverman has always been friendly. He has given me good eye exams and good service. His staff is another story. Most of his staff are rude and short with people. Many of them seem very unhappy doing their jobs. I will be looking for a new optometrist's office. read more

Dr. Silverman and Dr. Camburn both get five stars. A credit to their respective field. However, I can't let "Mike" slide through unscathed. My son was treated at the clinic in January. The visit concluded at the front desk where I discussed the copay ($20) with staff. I want to be very clear, I offered to pay the copay and it was declined. Rather, staff said that they would bill insurance. Today, I called to resolve the bill and spoke with "Mike." This was in response to a voicemail that Mike left earlier. I offered to resolve the copay and and was instead asked to pay $35. I was less than pleased with a 75% late fee, especially when I offered to pay the bill outright, at the time of service! Mike only wanted to know if I received their monthly letters and then he laughed and said that I was only calling to avoid collections. He also said that they sent me monthly statements, which is absolutely not true! The clinic chose to refuse my payment at the time of service!!! I don't feel it's fair to request special effort from the patient, especially when the clinic made the choice to refuse my payment at the time of service. The last straw- I told Mike that any late fee at all was unfair. His reply, "we don't want you as a patient if your not going to pay your bill." I repeat- I did offer to pay the bill at the time of service! And I was prepared to pay it today, too! More laughter from Mike and I'd had enough; call ended. read more

I have been a patient at Okemos Optometry for these past couple of years, and unfortunately my last interaction was quite unpleasant and uncomfortable. After my eye exam, I ordered glasses through their facility and staff. When I caught their mistake in ordering my glasses, they did admit to that mistake. However, when I started inquiring about compensation for that mistake, I was met with aggression, defensiveness, and in my opinion, very unprofessional behavior and customer service. Never have I ever been afraid to go retrieve a pair of glasses I already paid for from a facility. It is safe to say I will not be returning after this last interaction. I hope they can evaluate how they speak to their patients going forward. read more

I no longer live in MI but when I did I was lucky enough to go here for my yearly eye exams. Dr. Camburn is professional, warm and a top notch optometrist. She remembers things about you and does everything to make sure your visit and experience are exemplary. The rest of the staff are great too! Dr. Silverman was extremely helpful, he explained what was going on with my eyes so I would clearly understand even though it ended up not being serious. But he did do several different tests to be positive on what it was and helped me understand the pictures and scans of my eyes. Very helpful and knowledgeable! Dr. Silverman and staff are excellent, polite, and take time to explain. I've been several times, the environment is moderately paced, relaxed, and everybody is very helpful. I haven't seen Dr. Camburn for an examination, but she stopped by once to help teach me about contact removal, even when she didn't have to. Dr. Silverman is down to earth and has a good, dry wit. I have been going to Okemos Optometry for about 5 years now. I have seen both Dr. Silverman and Dr. Camburn, and I am always impressed by how kind, knowledgeable, and personable they both are. The office is very clean and comfortable, they have a great selection of eyewear, and try very hard to make sure you are getting the lenses that will work best for you. The office staff are also extremely friendly and helpful, and seem to be very understanding of insurance policies, which is super helpful. We come from quite a distance (+45 miles) to come to the office. Have always had great service and Dr. Camburn rocks! Excellent service and they always have answers for any vision insurance questions. It is really easy to make an appointment online and you can usually get appointments in the same week, if not the same day. I have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes to be seen. Every person, from the check in/out desk to the doctor, are kind, educated, and friendly. They are all willing to spend as much time with you as you need and I have never felt rushed. I was a little surprised I needed my health insurance card too because no one had mentioned that when we were talking abt getting them my vision insurance but since I also had the dr. checking the health of my eyes, totally worked for me. Fantastic service! The staff and Doctor were exceptionally friendly and knowledgable, and the high-tech diagnostic equipment was impressive and showed that we were being well cared for. Dr. Silverman has been helping me with my eyes for 4 years now. My eyes are complicated, he and the staff deal well with them. I started seeing him as a PhD student while at MSU, and now I drive from Detroit. It is by appointment, but they've always worked me in quick when I've needed to see the doctor. read more

The eye exam seemed standard and I have no reason to suspect trouble. Dr. Silverman was nice with no issues. So no problems there. But in terms of the office performance on getting a pair of glasses made (at very high expense moreover), the experience has been awful. I wanted a certain type of glasses and I chose this business to use since they said they could easily accommodate the request. It took them several weeks to get a pair to check when I was told it would be "quick." I was also using 15 year old glasses due to breakage and in a rush too. I paid extra for "optimized" placement measurements after a reasonable sounding explanation this would improve performance. The order was placed and the glasses came in after a week and a half which seemed a little slow. Worse still, the optimized measurement made was so far off that the glasses were not possible to use (was not even close). So they were sent out *without* optimization using the old fashioned way (simply look and mark) and it took another week and a half to get the corrected pair after stressing the delay has been quite long. I requested they remove their optimization fee. It appears to be $79 on the bill and they refunded $20. A partial rebate in this situation makes no sense. This is awful service. In spite of being in a rush and paying top dollar, a pair of not so special glasses took over a month and a half to receive. I cannot recommend. read more

I no longer recommend this business. I had been a happy customer for many years. I have vision insurance and just wanted to get my glasses. When I went in for the appointment I was told by the kid at reception I would not be permitted to see Dr. Silverman without proof of health insurance. I explained I have vision insurance and simply wanted glasses. The employee said proof of health insurance was required so they could bill them. Very long story short, I was turned away from my appointment. I needed glasses not surgery. I had been a happy customer for many years but requiring unnecessary information caused them to turn me away. Guess they don't need my money. Just wanted to get glasses through my vision insurance. Nothing else. Mike, at the front, desk would not allow me to keep my appointment without a copy of my health insurance card. My health insurance is not related to my vision insurance. Just wanted glasses. If I needed something medical done, certainly this requirement would make sense. Mike was surprisingly rude in saying I couldn't be treated without health insurance even though I wouldn't be using health insurance. I just wanted glasses through my VISION insurance. After 15+ years with Dr. Silverman, I am sad that I am now forced to go elsewhere. read more
