I joined two dear friends at Ola Restaurant for dinner on a Friday night and was quite impressed with the food, ambiance, and service. We made 8:00pm reservations half an hour prior to arrival, while shopping nearby. We arrived and were seated promptly in a cozy section of the restaurant. I was very satisfied with the restaurant overall. The service was prompt and sufficiently attentive. I ordered the Campo (chicken), while my friends ordered the Tierra (skirt steak) and the daily special of snapper over a vegetarian enchilada. My chicken was prepared excellently - it was moist and flavourful. My friends were also very pleased with their entrees. 5 stars for taste, 3 for service and portions of apps. It was 630 on a sunday night. They sat us next to another table of 2, and might have well been sitting with them we were so close. And there were many other tables free. Very similar menu to Crave in ansonia which is my favorite restaurant. You get a hot roll with like a tomato tampende which all was delicious. Took quite a while for our drinks (wine and margarita). Clams app was amazing tasting but you only get 7 clams. Ordered 2 more drinks that again took a while to come. I got the branzino entree which is a seabass with a goat cheese salad in between, amazing!! Boyfriend got the churasco which comes with sauteed onions and a mashed potato. Meat was so tender and cooked perfectly. Overall we really enjoyed all the flavors but service and small appetizer that was $14 knocked it down a star. My cousin brought me here for my birthday and it was my first time. I can't believe I never noticed this hidden gem in CT before. She ordered empanadas as her appetizer and we split the Paella for our meal. We were served guacamole & chips as we waited for our food. I wish the guacamole was more fresh but we were there in the evening and I'm sure it was made earlier in the day. The Paella was soooo hot and yummy. It was a struggle trying to finish the serving and mind you it was the "one person" serving not the two. The staff were soooo nice. They gave me a birthday shot and they sang for me. We were the only ones in the restaurant so we got the chance to chat with the bartender and the other servers. I had such a great time. I recommend Ola to anyone looking for a quiet place to eat but also have a great eat. read more

I have been to this restaurant two times. The first time was two years ago, and we had a great experience; the second time was tonight, and despite the COVID-19 pandemic, we had a terrific experience. Tonight, we ordered a pitcher of red sangria and a variety of small plates. We had guacamole (made fresh at our table side), arepas de cerdo (my favorite dish), empanadas de carne, empanadas de pollo y mango, tacos de bacalao (my husband's favorite dish), and tostadas de pollo. Everything was delicious and served at appropriate intervals. There was outside seating, and the tables were well spaced apart. They had signs with QR codes in order to access the menu, instead of sharing paper menus. The service was great, and although we ordered too much to consume in one sitting, we were able to take home the extra food AND sangria. We will definitely be back a third time! read more

The food was great! We had the guacamole freshly made at the table. The Lobster quesadilla almost tasted like a grilled cheese with lobster. So flavorful; Delicious. The fish tacos, although good, just had to cut it up for the tortillas. Big chunk of fish. The Tierra was amazing. Steak cooked perfect. The rice was so good. The only reason I give it four stars is because the service was soooo slow. The were only a few small parties there on an off day. And we continued to lose our waitress. I am normally a HUGE fan of Ola and come here fairly often. I haven't been here in a few months but decided to come back and enjoy a great meal and drinks. Drinks, as usual were great. You can't beat their numerous, flavorful mojitos; some of the best around (though pricey at $9.50 for a small glass). Me and a friend ordered a bunch of apps; the mussels, lobster quesadilla, chorizo and peppers, yucca fries, and oysters; really disappointed overall. Mussels were presented nice, but tasted of the ocean and not appealing. The lobster quesadilla was again well presented but didn't taste of lobster; instead had a fishy flavor as though they are adding some lobster but filling with miscellaneous fish of some sort. Chorizo and peppers honestly just looked and tasted like sliced up kielbasa and was not anything to write home about. Yucca fries which are usually light and fluffy, with a great crisp, were dense, heavy, chalky, and not appetizing at all. Lastly, the fresh oysters were decent and can't complain; garnish was also tasty. Overall, really not impressed and feel like they are getting lazy in their quality. **Update: stopped in tonight for drinks only as we ate somewhere else. The place was decently busy but not packed and plenty of seats at the bar. Was served our first drink quickly; tropical mojito. Was very good. After my first drink waited over 20 minutes to even be acknowledged on needing another drink and almost everyone else's drinks were empty at the bar too. Owner/Manager sat at the bar watching soccer and didn't seem to be paying attention to the lack of service at all. My female co workers chose this place as it was a Wednesday night and Wednesdays are ladies nights where some apps are $9.99, selected main courses are $21, and drinks (cocktails, wines, and sangrias) are $7 each. We ordered many appetizers, no main courses, and a lot of margaritas. Well, I was sick and thus the designated driver but they had many margaritas. I had dessert instead. Some stand out appetizers which I liked more than the rest included their guacamole, which has an option to be prepared spicy, and the Quesadilla De Langosta, which was a nice blend of minced lobster-avocado-cheddar cheese and chipotle crema fresca. My dessert, the Coconut Tres Leches, with caramelized bananas was less memorable. The whole thing just didn't align to my expectations. The flavors did not come across as caramelized bananas, or Leches. Instead it tasted like a angel cake bathed in heavy cream on a bed of figs. Which, put another way, came across as a different dessert entirely than what I ordered. In any case, as I was sick and could not drink, and as I did not have any main courses, it is difficult to give this location more than three stars on my first visit. If my co workers want to go back again next ladies night when I am not mainlining nyquil and can drink and order a entree, I will re-visit this review. A little annoyed with false advertising on Facebook a certain special then you go down to have it and they said it was a mistake and removed it from Facebook after verifying it on my phone. I thought that was odd, what about other customers? Keep your damn special for the night at-least? Service just okay, so we used to frequent but now haven't been back. We love this place. The owners are very dedicated, the staff is very attentive and friendly and the food is delicious. Tonight was our 4th time there and the food was hot, tasty and the drinks were top notch. We decided on drinks and Tapas tonight and we were not disappointed. We had the empanadas, lobster quesadilla and skirt steak. We could not make up our mind on which we loved best. The flan with fig was a perfect end. Although they do not have Cafe con Leche on the menu, my wife asked and they were more than happy to make us a cup each and it was perfect. We will be back. Living in Hebron it's hard to make it to restaurants in this part of the state. We were visiting a friend who lives in Milford and decided to come here for dinner. Our friend Mark has been coming here for a LONG time and I have no idea why he's been keeping his place to himself! For the drive to the restaurant he raved about the Tierra dish. This is a grilled steak dish that he was sure my picky eater husband would enjoy. I couldn't have 3 of the same dish at the table so I browsed the menu and chose Costilla Al Fuego Lento and while both dishes were completely delicious, if this had been a competition - I WON! (LOL). The Cabernet Sauvignon and beer reduction on the short ribs was delightful and the saffron mashed potatoes were a first for me and absolutely yummy! The mojito's were delicious, our waiter was super and the overall atmosphere and service made is one of my favorite most recent nights out. Highly recommended and I wish I lived closer so I could go back more often. read more

Seated immediately with no reservation. That is a plus. Unfortunately, that is the only plus. We were given a large, comfortable table. The restaurant was loud and very active, very much to be expected for a Saturday night. Menus were brought with water. -------------------------------------- Black Bean Soup with Plantain Vegetarian Salad Salmon rare on Spinach with Quinoa Device de Camarones "Paella" Sangria Lemonade $110.80 $125.80 total with tip -------------------------------------- My wife had soup, salad and an entre. I asked the server for a recommendation, and with her advice, selected paella and ceviche. The menus were exchanged for stale bread and a plate of oily marinara. My wife ordered a drink, a sangria. It was pricey at $10.00, but she liked it. Next, her soup came out. She ordered black bean and plantain soup. The serving size is frugal, but the soup tastes great. Who would think that plantains go so well in a soup. It is served with stale multi-colored tortilla chips. While she was having her soup, I had the shrimp ceviche. For the price, I would have expected a fish ceviche as an option, but it was good nonetheless. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from here. Her salmon came out. Rare salmon on spinach with quinoa. It was excellent. However, she was eating and drinking alone. The meal was large, so she split it with me, otherwise, I would have been sitting there watching her eat dinner. I was still waiting for a beverage, a lemonade, over thirty minutes. I did ask a few times. It was busy, but management needs to handle the needs of their patrons. There should not be expectations for customers to accept mediocre service because it is busy. The table was cleared, then my beverage was delivered. My wife and I were confused. The waitress had our plates, but told her that these were cancelled. My wife managed to get the food delivered to the table despite the confusion. The "paella" is not that. It is very good. It is a rich seafood stew over rice. The rice does not smell of saffron. Saffron is a very expensive part of paella. If half of the saffron is removed from the recipe, it is technically paella, just not as expensive to produce. We asked them to wrap the paella and the salad to go. The bill was $110. Next time my wife and I go for paella and a nice weekend meal, Barcelona without hesitation. This was disappointing. I've eaten at Ola's twice, mostly recently this week to utilize a living social deal purchased by a friend. I had similar experiences during both visits: pricey menu, lukewarm service and average food. I've only had tapas, so I cannot speak to the entrees, all of which cost between $20-$30. It's obvious you are paying for the preparation and quality versus quantity. I had the ceviche, guacamole, lobster quesadillas, and oysters with mofongo (my favorite of them all) during this visit. My friend and I were not that impressed with the ceviche, as I also remembered it not being that great during my first visit. A couple of shrimp sitting in a mostly watery tomato based salsa type mixture. Our waitress never gave us the specials, almost forgot my friends soda order and barely refilled our water. She was much more attentive and perky with an adjacent table, so not sure what that was all about. The atmosphere is the one highlight here. Bar area was packed on a weekday night, surprisingly. This place seems to cater to a middle aged crowd. I doubt I'd be back unless it was on an invite for a date or something of that nature. Cultural decorations, elegant/ divine meals, and friendly staff make for a wonderful experience. This is definitely a special place to go to! Writing about Ola Restaurant is very simple, as this restaurant is simply great! Beginning with the drinks... The cocktail menu is fantastic, especially as these tasty cocktails are made with fresh fruit. And, along with the live music, will get you to say Olé at Ola! My favorite is the jalapeño pineapple margarita. Also, try the Motini, a mojito-inspired martini, made with citrus vodka, fresh, and lime juice After you start with your cocktails, dive right into the menu. There is no way to go wrong with this variety of Latin-fusion dishes. One of my favorite ways to dine is tapas style, and the tapas menu here is delicioso! Here are some of my other favorites on the menu: Ceviche De Camaron -- shrimp in citrus, tomato, cilantro, lime, and onion. Just say "Ola" and order this! It is a perfect pairing of flavors. The well seasoned flavor and festive presentation are well matched. Ostras Con Mofongo -- White cornmeal coated crispy blue point oysters, sweet plantain purée-pancetta, and saffron aioli. This is one of the most popular Tapas on the menu. Cana -- Sugar-cane dark-rum carmelized salmon, served on quinoa, baby spinach, Shiitake mushroom, sweet plantain, warm salad, with pepper escabeche ginger lemongrass salsa. This dish is one of my favorites in the list of entrees. And, the way it is presented is very festive. The sprigs of lemongrass are great to nibble on while eating the salmon. These are some of my top suggestions. The atmosphere at the restaurant and bar is fun and festive, and the owners and staff are wonderfully kind and friendly. I've been to a different location of same restaurant before and this was my first time at the Orange location this evening. 3 out of 4 ordered from their prix fixe menu for the restaurant week. This restaurant does not disappoint no matter what location. The apps we ordered of pulled pork arepas and chorizo ala parilla. I was already full from the apps and my main entree sugar cane-dark rum caramelized salmon ( with quinoa- baby spinach-shitake mushroom sweet plantain warm salad- pepper escabeche ginger lemongrass salsa) look so delish, can't help myself. The other entrees of the group of skirt steak ( I had a bit of that was super tender & oh so good). I could only eat half and took the other half home. I can only eat half of my dessert of coconut très leches with caramelized bananas coz I was about to bust. Such a treat to be able to eat out and have some sort of normalcy during this pandemic. My friend who frequents this place says they definitely got rid of some tables to be able to socially distance. Our cocktails were a bit on the strong side. They have indoor and outdoor seating. When we came into the restaurant we let the waiter know that it was a party of four and we were not expecting any one else. Also, after being told by your manager that the desserts would all be "taken care of" we were charged for two of the four. Also, after a very lackluster service, the waitress took her time to finalize our ticket and kept asking about the change. After that experience I am very skeptical about returning. read more

Save your coins, you're gonna need them!!! Everything on the menu sounds appetizin! I wanted to have a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but my stomach can only hold so much. To start, we had the Arepas. The combination of the pulled pork and the mango salsa was delectable, making a great first impression. For the entrees we'd ordered the caña, which was cooked to perfection and the paella de mariscos. The presentation of the paella was amazing and the dish was seasoned very well except for the Talapia and the scallop. Both components lacked salt/seasoning and actually made me question the freshness of the scallop. But it could have been done intentionally to balance out the richness of the dish. With such amazing dishes, I feel that it was smart to keep the dessert menu simple. The dulce de leche cheesecake was a little heavy for me after such a great meal but the chocolate mousse cake was the perfect ending! Also tried two drinks. My 1st one was good, but not memorable. I don't even remember what it was. On the other hand, the white sangria is a must! Just amazing! !!! The service was okay... not bad, not good, just okay. I felt a little rushed in ordering and We did get a strange look when we asked to leave a drink menu on the table. And no one checked on us during our meal, so we had to wave someone down just to get a second drink. But overall it was a great experience with great fresh food and I plan on returning because I want to try everything on their menu!!!! Love this place! The Salsa music compliments its food sooooo well. I love the bright colors on the wall and the lively ambiance of the restaurant. It really reminds me of the time when I was Puerto Rico. For appetizer, we ordered oyster mofongo which was absolutely delicious. I normally hate oysters but loved it here. It's crispy on the outside but the inside was so tender and rightly seasoned. For entree I had CAÑA which is caramelized salmon along with spinach and mushrooms. It was so heavenly that I took the little bit that was left home. The salmon wasn't fishy and with the sauce underneath it really took the dish to the next level of tastiness. Only disappointment was their drink Ola Colada. Since it had its restaurant's name in it I thought it would be very novel and exciting to try but ended up just tasting like a mango or some fruity sorbet. read more

From the outside shall i I say different but once you walk in its beautiful. it's not overly huge like some of those chain restaurants everyone is so attentive and so nice. Happy hour is wonderful from 4 to 6 with half Price drinks half Price appetizers you can never go wrong but also there dinners and specials are wonderful.
