I've been seeing Olathe (KU) Health doctors, since my wife & I moved here 2 years ago. I have a family doc, a urologist & a couple of cardiologists who've given me great service. I have afib, & my cardiologist referred me to an electrophysiologist (who deals with the heart's electrical system), who recommended I have an ablation procedure. He got covid, so the other electrophysiologist took over. It went well, & I went home in the afternoon. Over the next several days, I had scotomas (aka, silent migraines) that would come & go over 20 minutes. One of those days involved an overnight stay in the hospital. They performed at CT scan of my head & an MRI, & generally monitored me very, very closely. The MRI showed I'd had a mini-stroke sometime in the past, but I never had any symptoms of it. The short story is that I really, really appreciate the kindness of everyone who works for Olathe Health!! I feel that they took fantastic care of me!! I'd recommend this institution to anyone! read more

This is a review of the Emergency Room. I ended up in here last weekend. I drove myself to this ER because it's near my house and because my doctor works out of this location. I walked in on a Friday morning and received care right away. There were only a handful of people in the waiting room, not sure if they were actually patients or waiting on someone. A nurse did a quick overview to get my basic info and confirm my situation. Then I was sent back to one of the rooms. My husband had to meet me there and they guided him right to my room. The whole visit took about 3 hours, but it wasn't because service was slow. I just needed several tests and treatments. I was actually treated by a PA and several nurses. They were friendly and informative. I hate needles. They were sensitive and as gentle as possible. The check out process was easy, just walked to the office on our way out and paid our copay. I'm sure there will be other bills to come. Overall we were satisfied with the level of care. read more

I recently had a baby at the Birthplace of Olathe Medical Center and found the experience to be overall wonderful. The nurses were great and the doctors provided excellent care for both myself and my baby and I felt completely at ease with the plan of care. The rooms were very nice and comfortable to be in. My only complaint was with registration and discharge processes. When I was checked in and when I was discharged they wanted me to use an electronica signature pad to sign consent forms and discharge forms but neither time the signature pad was working. Both times they made me stand there and wait for over 20 minutes as they were trying to figure it out with multiple people. I heard them say many times to each other to just use paper signatures, and there would be one or two people who would disagree with that and try to get them working. It was very annoying to stand there when I went in in labor and have to wait for them to figure out the electronic signature pad. read more

my dad was admitted with a large DVT in the leg at 9pm. the very next day at 5pm he tells me he is hungry and has not eaten yet. I asked the nurse and they said either they forgot to order food or the order was misplaced. he is 90 years old suffering from cancer and now a DVT he is 90 LBS wet and no food for an extended time made him week. this hospital should be ashamed of themselves. read more

Went there with a prolapse uterus and and constipation. They suggested a buy an over the counter med for it, didn't check my prolapse at all. Had no people in the waiting room but still made me wait at least 2 hours before I was checked. Never again just an incompetent hospital. read more

They said my labs came back but no results on the paperwork. Nobody listened. I was complaining of pain and stuck in the bathroom. But only given one bag of fluids. I did ask for a drink and was told no and not given any more fluids of any sort. I was not given a diagnosis but was told not to eat anything until the next day? Not sure what thats about. Not sure whats wrong. Would not recommend. The first IV was in a muscle not a vein. read more

Thursday nite before work,resting, my heart was weird, I had taken first aid so I knew something was wrong, drove to the er, where I met some super nice staff, my blood pressure was 214, Robert super guy, was concerned about my girls, because he dog person, too, nothing we could tonight, He took me to the 4th floor, were my nurse Joan, was waiting for me, I had her for two nights, Joan is awesome lady to take care of u, I call my vet to pickup my girl take care of them, but I couldn't talk I was very emotional and couldn't talk, when nurse Eddie walked in the room, he took my phone and talk to my vet front office about picking up my girls, during the weekend I had nurse Holly, Holly is like Angel that came into my life, she is tough but caring lady, I went into surgery, got out and had to be on my back for four hours, it stink, hard to breathe, she took care of that, my arm vein was good, but my other vein, did good, but when I sat up it started to bleed again, so Holly put me on my back and try to stop the bleeding, she was there for awhile, I was on my back for Almost 20 hours, that part of the stay suck big time, Nurse Carrie, was my nite nurse, I liked her, she tried everything and made sure if I needed anything got it, we tried different ways for me to lay on my back, it was bothering me, even put a belt that squeeze the vein closer, it did the trick, did u know when u cough or laugh u need to push down on the spot so u don't have a blood clot, it was a good tip from Nurse Carrie, Nurse Holly was my nurse the next day, I was glad when she kick me out of bed, I had to put pressure on my spot so it wouldn't leak again, we walk to the nurse station and back, read more

My wife was admitted for unknown infections. The infection was not adequately identified I'd they gave her a spectrum of Ibn a spectrum of IVNA biotics and sent her home on pill form.. 2 weeks later she's back in the hospital with Partial bowel obstructions and low kidney functions and it was determined she had continued infection That was identified as MRSA in her bloodstream. 2 days later they say it wasn't MRSA that it was staff in her blood and wanted to discharge her.. They refused simple blood cultures that would determine if she actually had staff in her blood or not And discharged her and sent her home. We are seeking help elsewhere. Doctors were not helpful the whole process seemed like a big guessing game with my wife's health on the line. This is not the first encounter with Olathe Medical Center. But hopefully our last. My mom had a scheduled MRI, to be totally sedated because she has severe closterphobia. My husband took off work to take her because I can't see to drive. When we got there we were told the appointment had been cancelled because they don't do total sedation. It's a hospital! What do they do? No one has contacted us to let us know. I was in their hospital last year with covid. The care I received was poor. I waited hours before seeing anyone. Even when I pressed the call button. They never cleaned my room. One of he nurses spilled urine on the floor and used a towel to wipe it up. The next nurse that came in about fell. Then, they sent me home when I was still very sick. Who does that? Oh, Olathe Medical Center does that. I would NOT recommend them to anyone. And now they're adding on to their building. They're taking our money to better themselves not the patients. read more

OMC saved my wife's life. We live five hours away in Western Kansas. We were in town due to work. The night before we were supposed to leave, she began getting sick. By the next morning she could barely walk and was incoherent. I was thinking stroke or heart attack and called 911. The EMS were great and took her promptly to OMC. She was seen promptly by a friendly and efficient ER staff. Within an hour they had a diagnosis, which was that she had sepsis do to a UTI and kidney infection do to a large stone blocking the kidney from draining. She was scheduled for surgery to put in a stint around the stone. The urologist stated that removing the stone at that time would not be advisable because the infection could spread even worse. During the procedure, her blood pressure dropped dramatically and they put her in the ICU after the surgery. The ICU staff were amazing and thoroughly explained want was going on and what the goals were. A couple of days later, her blood pressure stabilized and was transferred to a regular room. They are semi-private rooms and there was an elderly patient next door who was screaming, probably because of dementia. When the ICU nurse who escorted my wife saw the situation, she immediately arranged for a different room. Even though it is a semi-private room, too, she was alone the entire stay. I am so grateful to the staff at OMC. If she had not been diagnosed properly, we probably would have continued home to rural Kansas where access to health care can be far away. I know there are a number of 1 star ratings for this hospital. All I can say is that was not our experience. read more

Very disappointed in the long haul of the hospital. I came here on an emergent basis. The trip through the ER was a breeze. My surgeon was sublime and saved my life. However he went on a well deserved vacation. Since themx the care went down hill. The hospitalist was rude and condensing, had allergic reactions to common medications which they did not treat, saying it "would go away with time". Horrified. I checked into the er yesterday needing blood and fluids which was prearranged by my dr. I was here 6 hours before I was moved to a room and another 3 hours went by before I was given blood. I let them know I'm on several meds and I've been given none. I'm going on 15 hours and they finally gave me Tylenol with hydrocodone which isn't the medication I take! Told the nurse that he took an oath to treat patients and he's left me laying here to suffer in pain! I hate olathe medical center!!! They don't treat patients right and get there meds all messed up! Guess they don't make real doctors anymore. Pain in my lower abdomen so was sent in for a scan with contrast. Here we are over $4000.00 later and still don't have one single answer after 3 months. No one there seems to know how to read a scan. Got several answers for things like in my chest. No answers at all for anything below my belly button but plenty of high bills. Think the people reading the scans need to go back to school and learn what LOWER abdomen is. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. I went in pregnant and dehydreted to the point I couldn't keep water down. I didn't have to wait long, the nurses were nice, but they certainly made sure I was in and out as quick as possible. Then I get a court summons that says they are sueing me for money I owe them, even though I NEVER got a bill from them. Then, even though I am making the payments that I signed off that I would make, they are trying to garnish my wages. This is just a terrible experience for sure, and certainly not worth it. I would have rather driven the extra 20 minutes to get to a hospital that actually would have put effort into taking care of me and then tried to work with me on a payment plan. read more

Went to the ER for severe fatigue and weakness. Let them know I suffer from a mental illness. They said my results were all fine and it's just depression. Went to the doctor got those results back and I do indeed have PHYSICAL things wrong with me and not suffering from depression. Please seek medical attention elsewhere. read more

I went to the ER yesterday with food poisoning symptoms. My body was going numb and I was having trouble breathing. - The intake lady was very rude, and acted like she couldn't care less about my pain and discomfort. - Although the nurses weren't rude, their customer service left a lot to be desired. My mother asked a nurse for another blanket to keep me warm. Instead of getting the blanket for my mother, the nurse told my mom where the blankets were and made her go and get it. - the ER was very unorganized. The ER wasn't busy at all and yet I was there for 5 hours. - The ER doctor was not very attentive and had made up his mind that I was merely dehydrated. He didn't address the other symptoms I mentioned regarding food poisoning. I was given two liters of fluid and was discharged ( that took 5 hours). Needless to say, I woke up the next morning with a temperature of 102, all of which could've been addressed in the ER. - I had been told never to go to the ER at Olathe Medical Center, and now I know why. I had no choice because it was the closest ER I could get to in my condition. Next time I will go the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, which is a much better hospital, in all aspects. read more

Heed the federal governments rating of Olathe Medical Center with a 1 rating!!! Heed the rehospitalization rate of Olathe Medical Center-it is one of the highest in the area. If you are looking for caring, quality healthcare for yourself or a loved one, this is not the hospital you are looking for. Patients are discharged before they should be and end right back in the hospital. My family has thought back over the years of people we know that has used OMC and can not recall one good experience. This area has quality health care. However, OMC would not qualify as quality to me or anyone I know. read more

I was a patient at Olathe Medical center during a late night emergency visit after having a bad reaction to medication. The staff was friendly and efficient and soon had me resting and feeling somewhat better in a room. What left an impression on me was the kitchen calling and reminding me I should eat something and encouraging me to order. I have visited many friends and family in hospitals and have almost always have tried the food as most would never finish or complained of the taste . Being the curious type I almost always tried it as it was going to be thrown away. I was definitely not eating food that they were going to eat but agreed it wasn't very tasty. The food I had at Olathe Medical center was definitely the best I have ever had in a hospital. Some days of being depressed I did not feel like eating but the kitchen staff would call me and encourage me to order something to eat which definitely helps the body get better and I cleaned my plate most of the time . The nurses were all very friendly along with the rest of the staff . Another thing that impressed me was I don't think I ever waited more than a few minutes for help after buzzing for a nurse. Have seen others in hospitals wait what seemed forever with staff that seemed more concerned about their paychecks than their patients. As I have been having trouble standing and walking and trying to feed myself, being in the hospital felt like being in a resort to me. I was not receiving strong pain meds that made me feel that way, rather it was the friendly staff and nurses who genuinely seemed to care and the kitchen calling me encouraging me to eat when I was down and did not feel like eating. They even called me once about 10 minutes before they were closing to remind to order something before they closed. Amazing to me that they would call a patient that would result in more work for them rather than simply not call. After feeling better with new medication that allowed me to sit in a wheelchair without pain, I was allowed to the rooftop my last night of stay and went home the next day. A snafu with my insurance caused me to leave the hospital with a prescription for the new medication I could not fill. Finally a friendly social worker worked with me to get it straightened out but that is a different story. Another surprise was that I was visited by a nurse Donna and a physical therapist Russell the very next morning at home. Unfortunately I was not nice at all with her as I was upset at being woken up after my first night of uninterrupted slIts eep in about a week. Donna M I apologize, I am not a friendly morning person especially after leaving a hospital which is not an excuse and you were only doing your job. Russel was friendly and seemed very knowledgeable and asked a lot of questions about my condition and discussing therapy at home. I still have more visits to make to specialists but left the hospital feeling better which is what one hopes for . I still have been unable to drive for over 6 weeks but am hopeful that I am getting better. I still am at home and am having trouble feeding myself but I feel Olathe Medical Center has been very helpful on my hopeful road to recovery . read more

Dr. John Moore and the staff at the Outpatient Surgery Center at Olathe Medical Center have been nothing less than superb for my mom's surgery today. They took the time to ask questions of her and get answers to questions for which she wasn't certain. They treated me with kindness as well when I asked additional questions. The facility was very clean and the staff all had a very professional manner. The prep room and recovery rooms were nice as well. I would completely recommend this doctor and this facility for others' care. read more

I was in shock by the lack of compassion for patients who were in severe medical conditions waiting for hours in the waiting room. when my artery was cut open a lady offered me a tissue and told me to sit down. I was in the Olathe Med for 3 days. I was very impressed on the care given there. Emergency Room was very prompt and attended to my needs speedily. The only thing is after the evaluation and me being prepared for a room it took about 5 hrs to get delivered to my room. I was put on the fourth floor (4 east). I have never had such good care in a hospital in my life as I received by these people. They worked so well together and took care of my medical needs extremely well. read more
