We don't have a lot of kite stores in Sacramento. Old City Kites is one of them, and they are in a very convenient location at Old Sacramento. The store is easy to find, and street parking is available in front of the store. Parking garages are just a couple of blocks away. The store has so many kites and other wind-related items and decorations. Some other souvenirs are also available, but not as many as the other souvenir stores in the area. The kites and other items in Old City Kites are expensive, but please remember they're in the tourist area! Unless you need the owner's help to get something higher up, the store is self-service. You find what you need. Please bring it to the cash register. Pay for it. Simple and easy! read more

* I do not know why my profile shows I am in SF. I am not in SF. Excellent service! I drove up from SoCal to visit family in Tuolumne. Took the drive to Old Sac. Miss it after living in Sac for school. Anyway wanted to go to the train museum, but I was too late. Remembering the kite shop, I stopped five minutes before closing time. Before I stepped inside, I said to the man working (owner?), "Oh, you are closing right now." And he said, "No, no, come inside, I will stay for you." Like who does that? I had a kite in my vehicle that I keep there for my desert trips- lots of wind and open space. I needed a piece that was missing on my $1 kite, in good condition, which I purchased at a yard sale. I told him about it and tried to describe the piece. He told me to go get the kite. I told him it would take me 15 minutes to go get my car in the parking garage and get back here. He waited. In the meantime, more people walked in but left empty-handed. But- they enjoyed the selection of what he had in the store. This nice man not only gave me advice, but a piece to fix my kite, free. How generous! So I purchased something that caught my eye. LOOK-UP and all around when you check out this shop. As I was walking out the door, thanked him profusely, and I made another purchase of a good find. Hard to walk out of the store without finding something cool. Selection is there, and kites are expensive no matter where you go, but adults as well as kids, will find something fun here. read more

Windy day! Bored? Need something to do? Come get a kite! They have big, small, characters, animals and themes. Pinwheels, chimes and anything you think will do amazing in wind. The store itself is interesting so much to chose from and everything is out for you to see.for some it may seem overwhelming. We knew we just needed one kite and it took a while due to all the options. We ended up getting a cool shark kite and the man that helped up made sure to tell us how to put it together and fly it. He also let us know good areas to go. He did advise not to allow children to hold alone and make sure we had a good grip or we will be seeing thin again! Welp guess what! Walked in here randomly because one of my family members was looking to buy a kite, I guess? Anywho, we looked around at their selection of kites and Carissa thought a dragonfly kite would be cool. So I ambled over to the older lady running the counter and inquired if they had any dragonfly kites to purchase. I might as well have asked her for her first born, because the look of disgust and disdain on her face was appalling. "There are currently *NO* dragonfly kites on the market," she spewed in revulsion. "There are DRAGON kites―but ***NOOOO**** Dragonfly kites." It took me a second to reply, as her mannerisms floored me, and I'm not easily flummoxed. "Oh..o..k...," I managed to eek out. Well the whole thing stuck with me so the next day, with my wits back in place, we finally thought to search the website thar rhymes with glAmazon and―guess what?!―there IS a dragonfly kite on the market!! Hallelujah! Praise Jesus! Who'da thunk it?! I wish I had thought to do it in the store, as I would've purchased it right in front of her smug face. So, in summation: dark and dingy store located in the middle of Old Sac that looks like the place hopes and dreams go to die, instead of a place one purchases children's novelty items. This place is dingy and dirty. The women working there was rude and incredibly lazy. She was on her computer and couldn't be bothered to assist us. After about 5 minutes or waiting to pay she gets on her phone and starts yelling at someone to come help me. I pay for the you my daughter wanted and the guy asks for me ID not once but twice because he says I don't look like my picture and that he doesn't like my credit card signature on the receipt. He said it has to match exactly or the bank won't pay him. He literally made me sign it multiple times. I definitely won't be coming back to this store. Plenty of other good ones. read more

If you are into kites this is your store. They had a large inventory of all kinds of kites. They had a bunch of stunt kites which I was told by the clerk was not for beginners and he pointed towards the wall with what he called single string kites which are easier to navigate. Norman was very helpful when I visited this shop on Saturday 8/19/17. There were maybe two or three more families shopping at the time but he made sure to introduce himself and discern what I was looking for. This is a kite store, so naturally I was looking for a kite. I haven't flown one in years so a kite that was easy to use was ideal. But of most importance was small form factor and low price point. While I did show interest in some of the more advance kites, Norman casually determined these specific requirements and point me toward an appropriate item (he did not attempt to over-sell me at all). When I need another kite, possibly a larger or more advanced one, I'll be sure to come back. They also sell toys, wind ornaments, and trendy items such as fidget spinners. read more

This is a store located in ye olde sacramento what specializes in-just like the name says-kites and all things kite related. Parking is street only, this usually means that you can get a spot, if not right in front, then close by around the corner. Oh sure there'll be times when it'll fill up-lunch is popular in old town- and when that happens there are parking garages a block or three away. This store is fairly sizable and in addition to every kite related thing known to mankind has a small home garden section-wind socks and things that go all twirly in the breeze-and the requisite refrigerator magnets/ticky tacky. However the focus here is on kites. The fully assembled demo models run the whole length of the ceiling and down the walls thus allowing you to visually size up exactly what you are getting into. Kites range from children's ten dollar starter kites up to gigantic ones priced at hundreds of dollars which conceivably allow one to get said small child airborne. Assuming your previous kite experience, like me, is limited to a cheapo wal mart special that broke while we were trying to get it out of the package, the owner-typically the person behind the counter-knows everything there is to know about kites which is helpful. Yes, including the Weifang World Kite Museum, so don't be cute and bring it up. You'll get lectured. What this means assuming you are smart enough to not bring up the world kite museum thingy is that you can great kite advice. If you are a professional kite flyer (Yes there is such a thing. No I don't why. Go see the Weifang World Kite Museum.) they carry pro rigs and can supply both parts and repair. In short if you have any interest in kite flying at all, this is a must do for emotionally immature adults and children of all budget levels. read more

Don't let the name fool you, it's so much more than kites!! Tons of neat-o toys! Devices that shoot a myriad of objects, jump ropes, puzzles, educational toys, musical instruments, Yo-Yo's!!! Those "fun" flags that old people hang outside of their houses on holidays, wind chimes. I always find a new treasure every time I go! This gets 4 stars instead of 5 for being in sucky Old Sacramento, where there are too many people and not enough parking spots. read more

I live in Vacaville and found out that this place had a great selection of Yo-Yos so I decided to make a trip to see for myself. When I first walked in I was impressed with all the selection of toys they had. Was greeted right away with the owner of the store. Very pleasant and really cared about helping me find what I was looking for. This store had everything I needed and more! When I was paying I got to meet his wife(at least I think that was her). Had a small conversion and they ended up giving me a free string. Even tho it was just one string it showed me that they really appreciated that I drove 40 minutes just to check out their store. They didn't have to do that at all. It was a great gesture that I truly appreciate. I will be coming back here every chance I get. I recommend people here if they are planning on getting a gift for kids or anybody who still feels like one! read more

Old City Kites has a plethora of different kites: from dozens of easy-to-fly kites to a healthy selection of stunt kites for the more advanced. The employees here were kind enough to lend me a small pamphlet on how to fly stunt kites. The place is real cute, it's hard to miss all the flags and windchimes outside the door. The ceiling is lined with price-tagged stunt kites of hella different colors. They've also got board games, random puzzles, flags, windchimes, and alot of simple toys. Make sure to drop by here if you're visiting boring Old Sac. I'm giving this place a 4 cause it's hard to find a good old kite shop nowadays. This place is a treasure. read more

They have a large selection of kites and toys however the store is messy and crowded, they do not do returns, refunds, or Exchanges with opened products like almost all other stores. My friend and I went to go buy a yoyo and after trying it we decided we wanted to spend a $100 one instead of the $25 one we bought however the woman that works there refused to work with us. (Seems like a poor business decision) also the blond woman that works there has NO customer service skills what so ever. For a mom n pop shop they don't offer anything that makes me want to drive there versus stay at home and order online. read more

I saw a you tube about the air swimmers for this company. Thought it was super kool, so I ordered the Shark. I received the clown fish, my reciept said Shark but had been scratched through and handwritten in clown fish. When I addressed this with this company, They said Amazon had made a mistake on their ad (right because Amazon wrote their ad, NOT) I was told I could send it back and order a shark. I didn' t feel I should have to pay shipping to return the item. I asked them to send a shipping label to return the item and send me the shark I had actually ordered. They refused and told me to send the clown fish back for a refund. I will be keeping the clown fish, as I don't think I would ever see my 63.00 again . Very difficult company to deal with, unwilling to make the situation right. read more

We came here a couple of years ago on a whim after a trip to reno. They sell kites yoyos and some old toys, but what caught my wife's eye were some metallic garden sculptures. We ended up buying a couple and they still look great after a couple of years. Fast forward to today and we came to find out that they now have a store next door completely dedicated to garden decorations. We were helped by a young man named Norman who was very helpful, courteous, knowledgeable and patient. In fact everyone who works there is very helpful. We highly recommend this place. read more

Stopped off to buy some kite string and ended up buying a slip and slide and kite string for our daughter. Our daughter is 3 years old. I explained how our daughter lost the kite string and how it ended up in the power lines. The very overbearing heavy set woman working the counter tells me how we can be charged for removing the string from the lines and our daughter or I should do a better job in securing the kite.... Okay. So I am choosing the string and a gentleman is helping me. Every time I said something she would butt in and have some strange remark or something negative to say towards either me or the gentleman. Very negative person. Bad for business.
