Quite busy this morning, the gentleman wearing glasses who took my order was extremely pleasant and upbeat. I ordered a chai tea latte which I do not recommend. It was really bad and I had to unfortunately throw it out. The syrup tasted like chemicals and was undrinkable. I would order coffee next time as that has always been good in the past. When I went to pay, before inserting my card, I confirmed with the cashier with a mustache that they take Amex. There was no clear signage at their register detailing acceptable payment methods, so I asked. He stared at me for a second before saying "......I don't think that's a thing anymore" and walking off. He did not come back to give me a receipt or confirm my transaction went through. It was unpleasant to say the least. I can confirm that at many retailers, not accepting Amex is indeed still "a thing", and that's why I asked before inserting my card. A simple yes or no would have been fine. read more

Giving two stars because the sandwiches we had were not bad, but the coffee is awful and the service is worse. If you love coffee that isn't burnt swill, go to Conjure I was told by multiple locals after moving here that Old Crown was the place to go, but my experience both times I've gone has left me with a bad taste in my mouth...pun intended. The employees look and act like they either don't get paid enough or they don't care enough. Be forewarned, it takes them about 30 mins to make two sandwiches. Don't try to go here on your way to anything else because you'll be waiting around wondering why the employees are ignoring you and doing anything else than making your food in a timely matter. First time coming here. Came in around 2pm on a Sunday. Great flow of local business. Ordered the smoothie, bbq chicken sandwich, and Italian vinaigrette wrap. Smoothie had perfect consistency and was delicious. The wrap was solid along with the chicken sandwich. Nothing out of this world but a good meal. The hot sandwich was a nice touch. Waiting about 10-15 minutes for food while enjoying the cozy atmosphere. Great staff and location here read more

Update: the owner has reached out and handled everything very professionally, even offering to refund our order. I'm thankful for the swift reply and handling of the situation. Never in my life have I heard such a bullying experience from customer service. While taking care of my infant child in the car, I had my younger sister go inside and order multiple drinks for our family. The man assisting her told her she needed to wait for his to him to serve in-house cafe guests first. Then after she waited, he whined about her order and literally walked away in the her in the middle of her ordering because he didn't want to hear her anymore to go ask for the next person's order behind her. Then when a nicer barista went to help her, the man told her she was in the way and kept telling her--while in the middle of her order with ANOTHER BARISTA NOW--to go to the back of line. Multiple times. He continued to shame her in front of the cafe to the point where she was in tears when she came back to the car. I have no idea what his problem is, but this is shameful that someone like this has a customer facing role in society. It's upsetting that management would hire someone like this to tend to customers. Such disrespect. This is the best restaurant in Fort Wayne. Fight me. Seriously, the hand crafted menu they serve every weekend keeps my husband and I on the edge of our seats. We love checking the Facebook page to see what divine creations they will be serving up next. The sumptuous homemade bread and butter they present before your meal is outstanding. It's light, fluffy and has just a twang of that sourdough flavor. And the butter is always airy and delightful which makes it perfect to spread onto the aforementioned bread. I'm not writing this review to tell you to "get this when you come", simply because they rarely have the same item twice. I've been coming here for 2+ years and every meal has been a winner. Old crown coffee roasters is a small one story building with a blue and yellow awning near Belmont Beverage and the Jamison Meats store. They sell a small selection craft beer by the bottle and on tap- yes at a coffee house. They also sell food and T shirts. Chris and Mike are the beer guys. The beer in the bottle in hidden in cold cases behind the counter and there is also a couple taps. They were pretty busy when I came in- I guess with that selection you really have something for everyone. The building is hard to find since there is not a clear sign- I had to call to make sure I was at the right place. Plenty of parking and nice service. read more

Stopped into Old Crown for a post dinner beer. I loved the laid back atmosphere! The staff was super friendly and helpful. There was a mix of crowd, some young and old. As soon as you walk in you smell the coffee. They have a long bar rail and a few tables for 2-4 people each. I could definitely see myself posting up here to work or grab a drink with friends. We ordered a couple of beers and were surprised by the options they had available in bottle and draft. They also had quite the list of house cocktails! They also have a pinball area in the back which appeared to be pretty popular. Service and atmosphere are great. Five (5) stars alone for Old Crown's 9th Degree of Darkness whole beans, my favorite coffee ever! It's one of the darkest roasts you can find, with an advertised zero acidity and wonderfully pungent smell. 9th Degree always occupies the top slot on my birthday and X-mas wish-lists, as I depend on the generosity of family and friends to replenish my stock when I am unable to visit the Fort. I love the vacuum-packed packaging option, to help maintain freshness when shipping beans to faraway friends. As a former IPFW student, I used to kill time at Old Crown's prior location across the street and frequently ordered the delicious veggie wrap (which I believe is still on the menu). The new location isn't particularly cozy, but still has a nice atmosphere overall. My only sore point is Old Crown's discontinuation of its fizzy ginger drink they offered a few years back. Otherwise, best coffee roaster and shop in town. read more

Came for the pinball. As of today they have The Creature from the Black Lagoon, World Cup Soccer, The Walking Dead (Pro), Fish Tales, Firepower, Congo, and South Park. South Park arrived while we where there. All the games played great. They were well maintained, clean, and all in working order. There was a decent amount of traffic in pinball room, and it had a good vibe. Had a few beers, they were good, too! Will be back! South Park has been replaced by The Simpson's and Super Mario Bros. read more

Place be off the ringer in quality coffee offerings. I love that dark coffee they got up in here. I forget the name, but it goes damn good in a cafe mocha. Real fine coffee and such. I never tried the food only the cafe mocha. Food looks pretty good though. Just tried the coffee and it's so good stuff. Real good coffee up in here. Other places serve up Old Crown coffee in town, but me don't remember who? I guess just go to Old Crown. They got good coffee makers up in here for sure. read more

This place has excellent coffee. However, the staff is not friendly and VERY snobby. They think that they are doing you a great service by making you a coffee. I am paying them to make the coffee and I even tipped 20%? I feel as though that is fair. The guy practically threw my coffee to me and did not make any conversation. While i found the atmosphere here quaint and cute, I found the service lackluster and borderline rude. Since this was my first visit I inquired about tea and the like. My barista explained what the had, albeit in a manner befitting the creature from the Lord of Rings Trilogy. My tea was ok, it went down like sandpaper seeing as how I was in my feels about the service. Old Crown has strengths. It's convenient for college students. It has a neat ambiance. They try hard with the menu. Overall, it's okay. But there are some serious problems too. My last visit featured a few: 1) long wait time, 2) poor service, 3) iffy quality. I arrived on a weekend, mid-morning. It wasn't busy: one person ahead of me in line, three tables already seated. At the counter, I ordered an iced tea and a veggie/hummus appetizer plate. Since the veggie/hummus plate includes crackers and I'm on a low-salt diet, I asked if vegetables could be swapped for the crackers... and I was told no, the crackers always come with it (even if you pay more for extra veggies, which costs extra) you can't swap the crackers out. Umm... okay. Sorry to pressure you, annoyed person behind the counter. I'll take your crackers and just not eat them. Nevermind. So I paid and sat down to wait. Ten minutes pass. Twenty. My iced tea is down to the ice. At thirty minutes, I started watching people behind the counter, trying to catch anybody's eye. Nobody looked my way. Finally, at 40 minutes past ordering and paying for a cold, uncooked veggie app, at last someone made eye contact. He called out across the restaurant, "Are you still waiting?" Five minutes later, the appetizer arrived. I've provided photos. Quality issues. ONE: the knife was covered with smears and fingerprint smudges. TWO: the celery sticks were bruised and dirty looking. (Note: this is not hard to fix! gently swipe over the pockmarked bits with a peeler, and celery becomes fresh-looking and fine... why would someone not think to do this? why would you send out veggie sticks that look bruised and dirty instead?!) Finally, THREE: there were a few whole chickpeas in my tiny cup of hummus. I mean, one is okay, if a place is blending it fresh. But unless you market your hummus as "chunky," it's supposed to be smooth. After waiting 40 minutes, I expected better. And nobody ever said a word about my wait, besides the server who brought the plate saying, "sorry, yours went to the wrong table." I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. read more

I like Crown Royal. I actually dated a boy by that name...like real government name... OK, back to the review ;-) Came here because I saw the light "Crown" in the window. A true Yelper Elite can't pass something like that when exploring. I was hungry, need a drink and a patio, and Crown fit the bill. First, went inside to a cute coffee shop/bar. It's like a bar and coffee shop had a baby. The waitress came over and made sure I got food. The kitchen closed in 15 minutes upon my arrival, but the waitress ensured I was fed. I also got an Old Fashion, as I need something to do the job right. The waitress was willing to take my food and drink outside, then left me alone, which I needed. Inside, I saw cute artwork on the walls for sale and the bartender having a class at the bar. Everyone and everything was on chill. Most of the customers knew each other and said goodbye with names. This is what I needed in this moment. A true chill spot. Now outside, enjoying my food and drink, life is bliss. While the place sits off the street, the traffic was not too much. I had the Italian Grinder with the potatoes. Sooooo good. I thought I was not in the mood for a sandwich, but once I had the first bit, I was in love. All the food was fresh - bread, cheese, meats, greens - and you could tell. Sometimes you need to get away to a chill spot and just "be". Crown is my new hideout in Da Fort when I'm in town. Yelp Review: Old Crown 2015-10-09 On Friday, October 9 2015 I checked in on Yelp at Old Crown on North Anthony. It is safe for me to say that I have crossed a culinary threshold or gone through what one may call an epicurean epiphany: my mind is blown. Old Crown is one of the best kept secrets of Fort Wayne Indiana. Located on North Anthony Boulevard near the Belmont Beverage, Firefly Cafe, and the natural foods store, Old Crown has the triumvirate of taste delights that one must simply come and enjoy to truly appreciate: 1) best coffee in Fort Wayne (I will be writing a separate review for this) 2) excellent food at prices that are incredibly reasonable--"incroyable!" as the French would exclaim. 3) easily the best bar drinks and THE BEST bartending skills I have ever witnessed. My review will focus on the bar first and then the food. The Power of Passion: the Bar When I was dining at Old Crown, I sat at the bar. There are two things I enjoy doing as a diner: I like to watch the bartender work; additionally, I like to watch the kitchen staff work--if there is an opportunity to watch the chefs work, I do it (it makes me nostalgic about my time cooking in a kitchen a long, long time ago). On this particular night, I watched Chris (I hope I am spelling his name correctly) do his bartending. Before I begin my critique of Old Crown, I would like to expound on my frustrations with bartending. Unfortunately, idiotic movies such Coyote Ugly or so-called "bartender championships" have reduced bartending to the form of flailing and flipping of bottles rather than the art that it truly is. Similarly, too many bartenders nowadays are simply are waiters who have moved themselves up behind the bar to make more money by mixing drinks and getting "tipped out" or by simply gaining customers' tips by over pouring drinks with the intention (and the encouragement of the patron) to send their customers to a happy state of inebriation at the sacrifice of the refinements and flavors of a truly mixed drink. In complete and utter contrast, Chris at Old Crown is a craftsman in all aspects of what he does. The drinks that are served there are pretty much originals and they are good: we were listening to the names of the drinks being made and reading the specialty drink menu and then trying to reference them to some of the bartending recipe websites and found--not to our surprise--these are unique and original to Old Crown. That said, Chris' meticulous attention to detail was impressive to me. Drinks were made correctly: things were measured out; the correct tools were utilized; the precise amount of "shakes" of the handmade and craft-made bitters were employed accordingly; the chilling of the correct glasses was done precisely; the cutting and preparation of the garnishes, zest, and fruits were done on a cutting board and shaped; tools--like the twisted spoon--and the all-important shaker were employed. I have not seen anyone bar tend with this level of precision, consistency, and care for the product as was the case here. My recommendation is that anyone who reads this review and enjoys the subtleties of crafted mixed drinks should go to Old Crown and enjoy what this bar and this bartender have to offer. I think what set this apart to me too was that the restaurant was exceedingly busy on the night I was in there and yet--to my utter surprise--the bartender (as well as the chefs--because I watched them too) never once cut a corner. Drinks during "the rush" were just as measured out and specifically refined as they were when things were not as frantic. In the restaurant industry, this is an admirable aberration and it makes Old Crown worthy as the best bar in Fort Wayne. We had a "Bourbon Sprawl" (pictured below) which was excellent. I also tried a "St. Elmo's Vesper" as well which was refreshing and delicious. They also make a limoncello in house (pictured below as well). The Bourbon Spraw Limoncello I was also very impressed with the liquor selections. I had two drinks served "neat" (basically served straight and meant for direct sipping). The first was a "Hibiki," a Japanese whiskey that was so smooth and delicious. The second was Lock, Stock, and Barrel whiskey which became smoother and smoother as I reached the bottom of my glass. Any liquor (of any sort) connoisseur should come to Old Crown and explore the "spiritual" experience offered there. The Constant State (and opportunity) of Change: the Food Disclaimer: if you are the type of diner that goes to a place over and over again because they always have the same things--they always have "old reliable" dishes that you can fall back upon just in case you are not sure, Old Crown is NOT the place for you. On the other hand, if you are the type of person who appreciates diversity, experimental freshness, and a focus on creating great food with what is on hand, then Old Crown is EXACTLY the place for you. Old Crown catches you off guard. Is it a coffee shop or a bar? Well it is both! (YAY!) I greatly enjoy their brews and usually stick to the house brew or whatever brew of the day they have going. Staff is very knowledgeable about the coffee and they offer beans to sell. Looks like they have a stellar selection. As far as the menu goes, I have not ventured out past the wraps. They have a wide variety. I always feel healthy when ordering lunch or a snack here. The wraps do not come with a side- i wish they did- even just a pickle would be awesome! Free wifi and you won't be the only person lap toppin' away for a few hours if that's what you are looking for. I would post up a lot in between classes at IPFW, usually accompanied by a strong coffee and tears from 30 page papers. Okay maybe not visible tears but they were there. Great coffee shop for the student or professor to break away from campus. I have heard Old Crown is a super cool spot for a Sunday Funday. I had originally gone to firefly next door (which looks like a junk yard, just saying) and was rudely greeted by someone handing me a mask (makes a lot of sense to hand me a mask with your bare hands) and I politely refused. I frequent Crown often and have never been disappointed. Their coffee is strong and flavorful. Never burnt. When they roast their beans you can smell it for blocks and I LOVE it. Oh yeah! Score another one for yelp! Came up to Fort Wayne for our daughter graduation. We are having family in from a far. And having a couple of hours to kill decided to check out YELP.. We were needing a place close to the coliseum. My wife and I arrived in town early to check some place out. We selected Old Crown. Tried it for dinner and it was awesome. Food was great had the NY strip YUM YUM! My wife desired the bread pudding, so we had to have it. After 33 years of marriage. What can I say and yes the bread pudding was awesome! It is kind of a hole I the wall, that said the ambiance is unique and quant. The aroma that filled the room when someone poured the coffee beans into a hopper was erotically divine, you have to love coffee to appreciate! Defiantly worth the stop! read more

Every time I visit Fort Wayne and I need a chill hangout place, I go here. They have it all-a chill, it fun environment. Coffee beverages, delicious adult beverages with a wide variety of whiskey, and not to mention good clean food. The pinball room is fun, and the sitting room is quiet and great for chatting. If you like beer...you're in luck. Many types of beer that filled an entire sheet of paper. Coffee too.:.they have you covered. My husband got a caramel macchiato and we said we were dining in and they gave him a paper cup. They have nice mugs that would've been better to drink out of verses a paper cup. Almond milk was an extra .75 cents. We had each a sandwich. I got a Ruben and he got a rosemary sun-dried tomato ham and Swiss (grilled). They were each under $7.
