Do not bring a loved one to this facility without personally viewing it. I posted a rather scathing…read morereview a couple of weeks ago after my Mother was placed here for rehab, but I removed it after I was advised that I should not have done so without viewing this place myself ( I have now seen the place, as my Mother was removed to go to Watermark in Southbury. When she was moved, her asthma inhaler was lost, so I went to look for it later in the day, after she was moved. Never did find the inhaler. There was no one at the nurse's station when we arrived on the 3rd floor, and no one was there when we left about 10 minutes later. This place is depressing. The color are dark, it suffers from deferred maintenance, the food was disgusting to even look at (see the blob of Mac n cheese, with broccoli that clearly has no nutrition left in it after being over boiled for, oh maybe a half hour, or more???), and, quite frankly, the people who work here are not friendly. I did receive a response to my original YELP review from an administrator, and he also spoke with my brother, as I provided enough information for him to figure out who my Mother was, as referenced in that review. His response was a mix of agreeing that the facility could do better, as well as some defensive remarks. The place is not terribly clean, as I observed what appeared to be food stains on some of the walls, damage to some floors, and some peeling paint. I do not expect this type of facility to be spotless; however, I do expect it to be properly cleaned - which it was not. Some fresh paint (in cheery colors: think yellow, light blue and green?), colorful and uplifting artwork, better food, an overall more uplifting ambiance, and administrative changes are desperately needed. This place reeks of an attitude of "profit, profit and profit," the patients be damned. My Mother and our whole family are very happy that she has now been moved to a facility that, at least gives the appearance, of caring. US News and World Reports gave this facility a rating of average minus. It is well past time for improvements to be made. FYI, my Mother is on Medicare, with a UNHC Medigap supplemental insurance policy, which is accepted by Newton Rehab, as well as her new facility, which is much better.

This facility is absolutely awful. Don't let your family members go here. My family member was here…read morefor Rehab.I visited him daily. My Family member was ignored multiple times on multiple occasions when using the nurse call button for help to use the bathroom. On more than one occasion after waiting 15 minutes for a response I went to the nurses station to let them know it's an emergency. Still no reaction or help. This resulted in a bathroom accident. Another time in the morning my family member called for the nurse for help to use the bathroom. A nurse/ aide did respond to the call only to tell my family member he had to wait to use the bathroom until breakfast was finished being served. This resulted in a bathroom accident. When nurse/aide finally came to help they yelled at my family member for being incontinent and said this is why you need to wear a diaper. My family member was not incontinent. This is unacceptable behavior. The aide also didn't pull the curtain so my family member had privacy in the bathroom from his roommate. We also witnessed an elderly man fall out of his wheelchair. The staff was slow to react and help the man. The people in rehab or assisted living depend on the employees for decency and care. These are just a few of the observations we saw while visiting daily.

Terrible experience having our elderly loved one here after hospitalization. Apathetic "care" and…read moreat times more like basic warehousing. Uncaring, robotic nursing staff, under-responsive supervisors & administrators. It was a nightmare watching our family member languish there while no amount of polite advocating seemed to make any difference. They appeared to be understaffed at most times, and the staff who were on duty were not always trained in the use of the medical equipment needed by our loved one, so we usually had to wait for the nurse supervisor on duty assist, or sometimes other professional therapists who weren't round the clock coverage like respiratory therapists, when we'd have to wait much longer for help. They always had an excuse as to why the persons on duty weren't trained on that equipment ... learned early on that here, like at some other facilities but not all, nurses on duty assigned to direct patient care are all LPNs or PCAs so that is why - some equipment requires RNs or RTs who are fully trained. So sometimes the shift supervisor on the floor who was the RN would have to do the hands on, and they were always so busy so it would have to wait, etc. Too many cost saving measures being employed that poorly affected the patients; more than obvious. Would never recommend. Such terrible memories here for our family.

The staff was wonderful, attentive, kind, and really nice people. This includes all staff I encountered--nurses, CNAs and nursing techs, physical therapists, housekeeping, kitchen and nutrition staff, maintenance, and administrative and medical personnel. The facility is extremely well maintained and clean. Food was very good and ample portions, and special requests were accommodated. Physical therapy was very effective--staff was very encouraging and respectful of my limitations, working toward progress and not over stressing. Nurses and techs were great. Personable and professional. I would go there again.
