We decided to do the guided house and garden tour for $20 per person. It was well worth it. Our docent professor Craig was the absolute best! He knew every detail about the history of the Barker family, their beautiful home and lavishly furnished home, as well as the history of the family business. One thing that impressed me most was that the heirs of the original Barker family have made it their life's mission to spend an unlimited amount to restore the ancestral family home back to its former glory! This is a Michigan City treasure and I highly recommend visiting- especially in the summer when the garden is in full bloom!!

It's a pretty significant walk from the parking area (lightly enforced during offseason) and I went all the way out to the lighthouse and then climbed around to the other side of it. My experience at the Washington Park Zoo today far surpassed any visit I've had at Cincy. We arrived as soon as it opened, during off season. I had more up close encounters here with animals than I've had at any visit at any other zoo. All of the animals were active. The zoo was clean and well cared for. The employees were friendly and the animals were obviously well cared for. To top it off we went to the observation tower and had fantastic views of the lake. I loved our visit here and wouldn't hesitate to return.

I'm a native…read moreChicagoan, now living on the West Coast, and I love classic movies, so it's fun to find out new facts about the hometown or suburban locations appearing in popular films. Based on Kelli's tour about Marshall Field's and its role in the movie industry, I recently watched "Mahogany" for the first time. And her tour which focused on the LaGrange locations in "While You Were Sleeping" led me to finally check out this movie, as well. Keep up the good work, Kelli, and I hope to take one of your tours in person on my next visit back to the Midwest.
