Awesome outdoor wedding yard
Greg H.

Old Lystra Inn is the most beautiful wedding venue, set in rural Chapel Hill. The house is so pristine and amazing, with an incredible backyard setting for an outdoor wedding. There is an historic log cabin on premise that adds to the incredible charm of the location. Right next to the cabin is a gravel pathway with an awesome bonfire location. The hosts, Beth and Tony, are absolutely incredible. So knowledgeable, kind, and dedicated to providing the best guest experience possible. They knock it out of the park every time. There is plenty of room for parking and also a huge luxury event tent that will accommodate large events. Close to all areas in the Triangle, and all of the guests will be completely charmed. Absolutely recommend!

I came here as a guest for a wedding and must say this venue is absolutely gorgeous. The ceremony…read morewas held next to their pond and it was gorgeous. They even had a alpaca in a top hat - hard to beat that! However, the thing that stood out most was the genuinely caring staff. I'm embarrassed to say I had a little to much to drink that evening but without going into too much graphic detail I will just say that the staff went above and beyond to make sure I got back to my hotel safely. They even drove me back in their own vehicles and made a point to text my fiance in order to check up on me the next day. I would highly recommend this venue for all your event needs, you and your guests will definitely be in great hands.

Even the rain on the rooftop added to the atmosphere. You are such a talented, sweet, genuine person and it was my pleasure meeting you! You are the best at putting people at ease. The "Wedding and Reception" were like a fairytale, more beautiful than words can describe. The lightning made it look magical! I highly recommend Chapel Hill Carriage House. My family thought it was one of the most beautiful weddings they had ever been to and we have had many beautiful weddings at our family home on the Pamilico River! Best regards, Fran

Kills me to write this because I so wanted to love it. My daughter and I were celebrating my…read morebirthday with afternoon tea -- a tradition we've enjoyed at places across the country -- and this one fell flat for the price. The good: beautiful space, excellent Harney & Sons tea, and outstanding scones. Unfortunately, that's where the highlights end. The milk bread used for all the sandwiches was dense, dry, and hard to swallow, which wiped out an entire tier of the service. No one came to check on us, so we had no chance to raise our concerns. A booked baby shower in the same room completely killed the ambiance, and despite noting a special birthday at reservation, it went entirely unacknowledged. Beautiful bones, but the execution made my birthday memorable for all the wrong reasons.

Finally made it here! The Fearrington House has been on our list for years, so I made a 2026…read morereservation as my husband's Christmas gift. It was an incredible dining experience. The service and presentation of each plate was outstanding. We had the 3 course Prix Fixe menu, and we got something different so we could try 6 things. Overall, the food was good but did not quite rise to the same level as the presentation and service. Rating by plate: - Pumpkin Squash (2 stars): It was very hard and not very warm. Do not recommend. - Pork Osso Bucco (5 stars): Best thing we had. Wish we both ordered this one so we didn't have to share. - Beef Tenderloin (4 stars): We enjoyed it, but have definitely had better for less money. - Seared Chicken Breast (3 stars): It was a rectangular piece of meat, which was unexpected. I would compare it to chicken at a wedding, but I've had better at a wedding. - NC Cheese Trio (4 stars): Large portion of cheeses with a nice variety. I wish the crackers had more variety (not all seedy). - Chocolate Soufflé (5 stars): This is their signature item and a must get! The name on the menu is more complicated than the word chocolate, lol.

There were so many yummy adorable looking restaurants to choose from in Chapel HIll, but Yelp and…read morefriends recommended the Lantern so I made a reservation several weeks before our trip there for my daughter and I. It was a short walk from our lovely hotel (the Carolina Inn), but started raining when we first walked out the door so we called an uber which was a very short ride. We were seated right after arriving and I had a nice glass of wine and my daughter a diet coke a few minutes later. The menu looked like a sharing type of meal so we opted for: - pork & chive dumplings: yum - spring rolls: tasty, but my stomach (as always) regretted the fried food the next day - bento box: the hit of the meal - shaking beef: i thought pretty good, but my daughter wasn't a huge fan The service was good and the food was brought out at the perfect pace. While I'm sure their dessert is yummy we opted to walk down Franklin street and enjoy some Ben & Jerry's after dinner since the weather had cleared up.

On a recent visit, our family started off with an delicious order of Pork & Chive Dumplings, while I enjoyed a perfectly prepared Old Fashioned from the bar. For our entrees, we shared plates of tender Shaking Beef tasty Sticky Rice and succulent Pork Ribs, all paired with a fabulous Pinot from the restaurant's impressive selection. Service was outstanding throughout our visit, and Lantern's softly lit, intimate setting makes it the perfect spot for a date night or just to escape the Carolina heat. Everything about our visit was wonderful, and the prices were more than reasonable for a meal of this caliber. An amazing find in Chapel Hill!
