A month later, I found myself making the hour-long drive from Cary to Haw River Tap & Table--and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. As a farmhouse ale and saison enthusiast, this place felt like my happy place. We kicked things off with a flight featuring Beneath the Feet of Orion, We're All Quite Happy Right Here, Thank You (seriously... who comes up with these wonderfully ridiculous names? ), The Seven Faces of Pepe Grano, and Mille Fleur. Every beer was thoughtfully crafted and distinct, but We're All Quite Happy Right Here, Thank You completely stole the show. A bee pollen saison sounds unconventional, yet it was beautifully balanced, floral, refreshing, and unlike anything I've had before. The food easily kept pace with the beer. The Southern Cheese Slaw & Crackers disappeared embarrassingly fast, and the Carolina Egg Rolls were huge, crispy, and packed with flavor--perfect companions to the farmhouse ales. Of course, one flight wasn't enough. Round two included Crimson Velvet, Carolina Tapestry, Toasted Coconut Scribbler's Son, and Cultural Divide: Muscadine Rosemary. Each pour showcased the brewery's creativity without feeling gimmicky. Whether it was the rich toasted coconut lager, the juniper-forward sahti, or the tart muscadine rosemary sour, there was something memorable in every glass. If you appreciate breweries that aren't chasing the latest hazy IPA trend and instead focus on expertly crafted saisons, farmhouse ales, and unique traditional styles, Haw River Tap & Table is absolutely worth the trip. The quality, creativity, welcoming atmosphere, and excellent food made for an outstanding afternoon. I came because of one bottle from Whole Foods. I left already planning my next visit. Cheers!

It was a very casual set up, you order at the counter, take a plaque with a number, and they bring your food out when ready. Still riding the high from May's National Burger month, I decided to give their smash burger a try. Their smash burgers by default are only 3oz, but for +$4 you can get a second, and I'm assuming a third or fourth if you keep paying the additional fee. I also got a side of potato wedges, and the Shortstraw IPA (brewed with fresh pine needles!!!). They had a good variety of beers, so it was hard to pick. The Shortstraw IPA was an awesome starter. I wasn't sure at first, but the cashier gave me a taste, and it was really flavorful and unique. The food didn't take too long to come out, and everything tasted great. The burger was cooked perfected with some tasty seasonings on it, the fries were also cooked to perfection with a slight crunch on the outside, and soft on the inside. This was a great visit, and somewhere I'll certainly return to next time I'm in the area for a show. Friendly service, tasty food, and unique/delicious beer!

We personally have gay friends but we believe their behavior is a sin. I am a sinner and I believe we should love the sinner and hate the sin. The current law allows gay couples to marry. I think gay couples should respect the beliefs of others just as they want to be respected. " Clearly, they don't want to come right out and say we are not welcome, but they made it clear. Nowhere in my initial email was I disrespectful to them, so I'm not sure whey they felt the need to point out that we needed to respect their beliefs. A simple, "We can not accommodate your request at this time," would have been fine. We were not asking them to officiate our wedding. We were asking them if they would do their jobs as business owners, take our money, host our event, and keep their personal opinions to themselves. How their religious beliefs impact their business I don't really understand. It is really too bad, because as I mentioned, this venue looks absolutely gorgeous. However after the rude and frankly condescending email back, I will be taking my business elsewhere. I suggest those who support marriage equality do not support this highly unprofessional business.

We visited Still Life's new location in Chapel Hill a couple weekends ago. I was impressed. I…read moredidn't know Chapel Hill had an "upscale" dance/nightclub with a sexy, big city vibe to it. We hung out at "The Loft" bar and lounge on the 3rd floor which I believe is 25-and-up only. The Loft is like a covered rooftop patio with outside views on three sides, none of which face Franklin St directly, unfortunately. But still, it's a cool, sleek spot with a nice-looking bar, white couches, and high-tops. We stayed up in The Loft and never went downstairs where, presumably, the main club and dance floor are located. As we drove down Franklin St to get here, after 11pm on a Saturday night, we saw a line of what looked like undergrad-aged kids waiting to get in. So, I'm not sure what the atmosphere was like downstairs, but things were very "mature," chill, and relaxed upstairs. I didn't feel like I was on Franklin Street in downtown Chapel Hill. We parked for free in the James Wallace Parking Deck, accessible behind Still Life via E Rosemary St. The deck is next to "Amber Alley," which connects the back side of the buildings to Franklin St. On the deck side of the alley, our big group (who had a connection and called ahead) literally got red carpet treatment. Our IDs were checked and we were given wristbands to access The Loft. We took the glass elevator up and down and there were stairs too. Parking in the Wallace Deck was free because we parked outside the hours of operation: 8am-8pm, Monday-Saturday except holidays. According to Still Life Chapel Hill's Instagram page, their rooftop-only soft opening was July 8 and their entire-venue grand opening is two weeks from today on Friday, August 19th: https://www.instagram.com/stilllifeunc/.
