I've chaperoned a couple fields trips here and we've attended a couple birthday parties as well. The latest was for a five year old's birthday party and the weather in February was perfect (I could see it being a bit hot in the summer since the sitting/eating area is open door. They do have an air conditioned room you can rent though, we've attended a birthday party in there as well.) The invite said three hours and I thought is this really going to last three hours? It did, it was a jam packed three hours. We saw all types of animals, had a hay ride, picked up chickens, kids rode ponies, and milked a cow. It was fast paced enough that it kept everyone's attention. The farm may not seem big, but they do a fantastic job organizing the group to move from section to section. There was even an outdoor obstacle course that I didn't see before that the kids loved. If you're looking for a fun, organized activity, this is a great option. I was there to attend an event in the barn. That was all very nice. I walked around the grounds and found most of the animals were fine for a petting zoo. However, I was deeply disturbed by a poor cow that was tethered and shackled in a milking stand for four hours. She was shifting her weight from hoof to hoof and standing in her feces for at least two hours (that I observed). I was told by staff that she was perfectly fine and was used to doing this. What I feel the farm was teaching children is that's its OK to cause an animal discomfort if its for their pleasure and the facility's profit. read more

What a gem of a farm for children's birthdays ! I had my daughter's birthday party at old mcmickeys and it was so much fun ! I had 17 years experience of planning birthday parties for my teenager, but by far this was the most fun outdoor party . I'm not understanding all the bad reviews. Everything went as planned and smoothly. We toured the farm before so knew what to expect. Krystal was very prompt in her responses each time we had a question. It clearly says on the website if one is able to read that Birthday Party for up to 20 guests (all guests 2 and up including adults are counted) includes guided farm tour, pizza, a bag of chips and one beverage for each guest. All guests over the age of 2 are counted. There is a charge for each additional guest, but it is very reasonable . The immediate family of birthday child is not counted, including the parents and one sibling . The venue also provides white plates, napkins and utensils. Outside food and drink are permitted with the acceptation of alcohol. Outside decorations are also permitted with the acceptation of confetti and piñatas. All parties are held from 10am-1pm. There is a private party space for $100 extra based on availability, but we preferred the open barn party space with Lakeview. On this particular day, they were booked so there were 3 other parties taking place. It can get loud but that's expected of kids. The party space is sectioned pretty well so there should be no confusion for the kids to stay in their space. The tour starts promptly around 10:20 to 10:30 AM. A lot of our guests actually showed up late so they were able to join in on the tour. This includes petting goats, bunnies , baby chickens , a hay ride , chasing chickens , pony rides and educational information about other animals. The pony ride went smoothly as can be. Yes there were some crying children, but they had two horses running and overall the kids had a great time. The tour itself was about 1.5 hours. By noon is when lunch was served. We did bring extra drinks as one per person was not enough For a hot day. The kids were especially thirsty during the tour so I would advise bringing a water bottle as the food's and drinks are not served until after the tour .There is one pizza box per 5 guest so about 2 slices each, but we brought extra food from Publix and that worked out well . I would advise to bring your own napkins as there were not enough provided . You get a private tour guide who stays with you the entire time and helps with whatever you need, including set up and clean up. Mrs Xee did an incredible job keeping the children engaged. Parents are advised to stay with their children as well. This is not a babysitting service . She deserved more than the 13% tip added onto the bill so it's always nice to tip them extra as they only work on weekends. All adults and children had a wonderful time and the top off. We received four free tickets for our next visit.! read more

This farm is off the beaten path. Located at the end of Crescent rd off Gunn Hey in Odessa. Open to the public on weekends, they cater to school children during the week. We come here on a regular basis. I drive a charter school bus for Recreation Express. This farm is a multi purpose experience! This is a tough one...I want to rate them better but not sure exactly how to. We went there this weekend (2 adults, an 11 yr old, and a 7 yr old). We did get $4 off for being healthcare workers, but it was still $56 total for all of us. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and our guide Emma was very sweet and knowledgeable. Unfortunately when we went we were not able to milk the cow (cookie) as she apparently wasn't wanting to that day. So what did we do? Well, we learned about some of Florida's native animals at the education station, went to the back and were able to see cookie and the new calf with her, watch the 7yr old get on a mini horse/pony and ride around for a couple of minutes, see donkeys, catch chickens, pet goats, see turkeys, pigs, a rabbit, and there was a slide for the kids to go down (only the 7 yr old went). Afterwards we decided it was basically an educational petting zoo. The rest of our group had smaller children with them, so there was some smaller kid crying and whining a bit...but neither you nor the farm can help that. The ponies were not big enough for the 11 yr old and they said they sometimes bring out the larger horses...not sure when though. The slide is also only for the kids. For the price, not really a good deal. Maybe if the cow was available and they had horses that everyone could ride, maybe? As I said though, the grounds are beautiful and it would be a nice place for a picnic. This is a cute place for take the family to get out of the city and see some farm life. When you arrive, you are directed to join a tour. The tour goes to each area and spends 15-20 minutes there. All in all, it's a 1.5-2 hour experience for the price of admission. My almost-3 year old son enjoyed petting the chickens and rabbits, and he loved the farm maze, pony ride and tractor ride. The staff was friendly and willing to let my 1 year old daughter ride on a very short pony, so we got some cute pictures of that too. There's not a ton of walking, so I would advise against bringing a stroller as most areas are not paved, and you can't bring the stroller into the animal enclosures. I had my stroller but kept my daughter strapped to me instead. The distances were easy for the 2.75 year old to walk. The overall area is very pretty. It is on a lake, and there are picturesque trees by the lake. I could see this being a romantic place if you want a country style wedding. read more

We went with a group. There were two couples ahead of us (with our group), in line to pay. We waited 20 minutes to get to the desk to pay. Upon telling the woman we were there with our specific group, she proceeded to pick up a phone call on her cell phone & not acknowledge I was ready to pay. I stood there for another 4-5 minutes before my husband said "what is actually happening!" And we, along with other families, left. They are not a business prepared to handle large groups or process payment. An utter disaster in my opinion. And I know things move slower in the south, but a 10am arrival and scheduled tour time should be honored. At 10:22, no tickets, no tour and no acknowledgement of disorganization. read more

This is an old farm that has been opened for years. Every person that visits the farm gets a tour guide and they take you around the farm and give you information about each station that you go to with the animals. There were about 8 stations. Jason was very patient and great with the kids. The students were able to pet a donkey, pig, rabbit, goat, they learned how to catch a chicken, milk a cow, and rode a horse, they were able to ride on a tractor through the "oldest" camp in Florida where they saw cabins from the 1940's. They give you hand sanitizer before you leave each station. We didn't eat lunch there, but there is a covered pavilion to eat your lunch if you chose to bring it. The students received great educational information and had a great authentic experience learning about animals. read more

My cousin from Los Angeles who is originally from Miami chose to have her wedding here with her fiance who is from the Gainesville area. This place wasn't exactly neutral but after searching far and wide and considering they could have had their wedding anywhere between Florida and California she ended up choosing this place, McMicky's farm in a place none of us have been before really. I've been to Florida more times that I can remember but I've never really gone often to the west side so as far as Odessa or north Tampa goes it was new. Plugging the address into the GPS made this place not hard to find and considering some of eastern Florida was dealing with Hurricane Matthew this place showed no sign of bad weather or wear of any kind. Lucky for us considering the wedding was the Saturday following when Matthew hit the area between Daytona and Jacksonville. Arriving close to 5pm (when the wedding was actually set to start) the area is so quiet and serene. The sunlight reflects off the almost still water while green surrounds the peripheral vision. The stirring of a few quiet farm animals can be heard and while it's a farm that has a few animals on site it doesn't smell overwhelmingly like there are many animals present. The lake is beautiful and the slope leading to the water is ever so gradual. The skies and sun that afternoon were perfect. I could see why my cousin selected this place to host her most special day with her closest friends and family that traveled from Miami-Dade, friends from LA and us, from Toronto. This venue is the two of them to a tee, genuine, down to earth wholesome goodness. There was nothing over the top here and it didn't have to be but rather a really good place to host an outdoor ceremony by a clear still lake landscape. We had our daughters 5th birthday here today and booked it 3 months ago. Long story short, their ad advertises a birthday package for a certain price for up to 20 people. Silly me thought it meant 20 kids. I have NEVER booked a place for my children's parties that charges extra for adults to attend with their little ones. I had been corresponding back and forth over 3 months asking questions as well as reiterating that I would like to also order enough food for the adults, etc... and being aware that there would be an extra charge. Not once during these conversations did anyone mention that we would have to also pay for the adults attending with their children and that they would be fed as well. One would think when I mentioned purchasing extra food they would have spoken up. Fast forward 3 days prior to the event I receive an email from them and they want to know a headcount. I explained that we would be having 20-22 kids and that I would of course pay extra for the two extra kids we invited no problem. This was when they asked me how many adults were coming and I said I wasn't sure because some kids come with one parent and some with both. I was then told parents must pay too and accounted for in the 20 person count. When I mentioned I had no clue about this they wrote back and said it was in our contract. I went back and read our contract and it does state that you must include everyone. Ok, I messed up there for not reading every little thing but again their verbiage was not very clear to begin and I interpreted it differently. Again, I feel they should have mentioned something when I was corresponding with them those few months. The day of the party we arrived and not only were we having a party, but 4-5 other parties were going on at the same time in the same barn. We were unaware of this as well. We were assigned a " helper" which was included in the package and she was good with the kids on the little tour but then completely disappeared leaving us hanging after she dropped off our pizzas. With the other 4-5 parties eating at the same time it was really chaotic. When we finished up and had our cupcakes we wondered when the kids would go on their pony ride so I asked another girl who was helping with one of the other parties where we could find our helper. We had not seen her at all during the meal. When we finally located her and asked about the pony rides she said "there wasn't enough time". We also never got to go on the hay ride, either. We followed every thing SHE instructed for our child's party so not doing either was a let down when it was supposed to be part of the package we were paying for. She tried to say that our tour "ran behind". She had mentioned upon our arrival at 9:45 am that she liked to start the tour by 10:15 -10:20. I told her that was fine and that I reiterated to our guests to please arrive by 10am and all but one were ready at that time to start the tour. In the end, our daughter and those attending were really bummed that we were not given the option for pony rides or a hay ride as advertised and it was a loud chaotic nightmare with all the other parties going on. I spoke to others hosting the other parties and asked if they were able to ride the ponies and Dona hay ride and they said that they did. I also have to mention that the people working there aren't friendly either. I made sure we were well prepared for this party and have 16 emails to prove that. When I asked about the parents having to be included in the head count I tried to contact them only to receive an email back stating "it's in the contract" and nothing else which to me was very rude. They had to know that I had no idea all this time or I would have definitely re-examined my guest list. Their verbiage was interpreted completely different. Their contract was also written the same way however, the receipt we received after paying our deposit back in October stated this more clearly at the bottom, but who actually reads the receipt? After sending over the deposit we just filed the invoice. This place was nothing like their website depicts and for the small fortune we spent we would definitely would not recommend them for a child's party. I hope this review helps so that others are aware of what we experienced from this business and when we calmly addressed the situation we were told that they were sorry. read more

Located in the Odessa/keystone area, Old McMickey's farm is perfect for children under the age of 8. We had a groupon and took my 3 year old nephew. We all really enjoyed it. Groups leave every 15 minutes, and you must be with the group at all times. At first I was a little annoyed we couldn't go off on our own, but now I know why. It would be too chaotic and too unsafe for the animals to have a bunch of kids running around. You stay at each station about 15 minutes. The highlights for my nephew were the chicken coop (they allow you to pick up the chickens), the pony ride loop and the slide. We also visited with potbelly pigs, mini donkeys, milked a cow and played with Pygmy goats. With our groupon it was $10 for 1 adult and 1 child. We paid $12 for the extra adult. My son and I went on the tour today. Its educational & organized. Very structured which is nice however I prefer a walk about location. The people are very nice but strict. The guy tried his best with the kids which I appreciated his temperament. It's a nice place if you're into structure. I guess I expected more from the hayride but my son has a blast eventhough he's 2 as an adult I was bored after first 10 min. The pony ride is once around circle, of 2 people are paying they should have at least twice.i go to another farm which is cheaper in oldsmar. It's not as structured nor clean but it give the farm vibe as a normal farm. The only reason why I gave it a 4 star is the only room one lap on the pony ride for $27 1 adult 1 2yrold is pricey in my opinion however my son is happy & everyone was civilized in was success. read more

An awesome family fun spot! My two year old is currently obsessed with animals, Old McDonald, and tractors. As soon as the weather was nice enough, we decided to venture to Old McMicky's. It was a great time! Tours run $13 for adults at $12 for kids 2 and up. You get a 2 hour guided tour that includes petting animals, milking a cow, a pony ride, a slide, and a hayride. The tour guides were super nice and passionate about the animals. The grounds are absolutely gorgeous, too. I was intrigued by the fact that you can host private events on the farm. It looked like a great place for a kid's birthday party or an adult gathering. I almost felt as if I was in a different state, but I was only 30 minutes from home. Beautiful property, but not suitable for most toddler aged kids. We brought our son who is almost two and the tour was not age appropriate at all. In fact, it seemed to be more geared towards the parents. Our toddler lost patience after 15 minutes and wanted to explore and run, but it is against the rules and we ended up leaving after seeing 3 animals. At one point we were looking at the turkey. (Literally just standing there and looking) and one worker shouted "leave the turkey alone!!" Some of the staff came off a bit rude. They have no patience for younger kids. So unless your child can stand 15 minutes per station (in total about 1 1/2) and be quiet, don't bother going. It will just lead to a stressful time for everyone. I feel it would work out better if they had one worker manning each station and people could go through the tour at their own pace. read more

Always enjoyed this place to take the family until today...called the day before and was offered a birthday party option for Saturday (today) declined Wiley based on the cost and only 2 slices of pizza provided. Was told I was more than welcome to come and do an individual tour. Drove an hour to the wine to only be told that were "closed for a private event"?! They were offering free passes for the inconvenience? Apparently there was a miscommunication with whom worked in the office the DAY before and they wanted to know who it was who told me they were open, with no resolution to my 3 year old expecting to go to the farm for her birthday. A golf cart full of employees come out to "unfortunately" inform me that they can't let us in, they don't know who I talked to and wanted to know as they always ensure they gather an individual's name when they call for general questions. We were here for a wedding. The wedding itself was fabulous. The converted barn was perfect for the reception. The grounds had a lot to be desired though. We had to walk through dirt (wet from rain) to get from pathway to pathway. To get to the restrooms we had to walk to another building through the dirt in some places. Our tour guide Kayla (sp?) was so kind and accommodating, toughing it out in the rain for part of the tour while bringing the animals indoors for the remainder of the tour. I think the idea is fun but the experience for us was horrible! We pulled into the drop off to ask where to park and an employee steps in front of the car and then tells us she was standing there so we didn't "plow into" a group of guests. Yay! Great way to start. Then you have to go from station to station with the group, which takes so long! The last station is pony riding. It takes a while, which is fine...but at this point kids are hungry and cranky. No snacks are allowed, understandable, but perhaps a controlled snack station with water available midway would be a good idea. While all these 4 year olds are waiting, the same woman, who later identified herself as a "middle school teacher" starts screaming about "all this crinkling (people sneaking snacks to keep the kids from melting down) and running around and talking" we're upsetting a horse. This horse was rearing up. It was not ready to be around 4 year olds. A few minutes later the same woman follows us out of the area and we told her the way she just screamed at a group of 4 year olds was inappropriate. She, again yelling, tells us we "must not be Christian women, that's right GOD." Mind you this is a party and a location with lots of parties of children. Many of different faiths and beliefs. I went with a group for a birthday party, it was neat riding the little horses, then we got to the chickens where they let 10-20 4 year olds run around chasing the chickens in a caged in area, some of the chickens enjoyed the petting while others stacked together in a corner hoping to make it out untouched, while others were on constant run away mode. I noticed there were chickens walking around freely, maybe switch the chickens in and out and only put the ones who seem to enjoy the interaction in the cage, but hours on end every day for those poor chickens, not cool. Then I saw the poor cow :( if youve been there you know what Im talking about. That poor cow chained at her feet, wood on both side of her head so she cant move, desperate to be milked sitting there as a piece of farm revenue as children sit there milking her one at a time hours at end, when we showed up the guide had to scrape a bunch of poo from where the cow had been sanding.. indicating shed been there longer than she should be. I just hope its not the same cow every day, I just hope it really isnt hours on end. TAKE THAT ATTRACTION OUT OF YOUR FARM, that poor animal deserves better than that. But the employees were sweet, they seemed tired, and our guide seemed to have consideration for how the animals felt, maybe she just didnt feel she had control over the cows situation. I wont ever be going there again, I want to hear that the poor cows days of sitting there being milked by children are over. But otherwise the party was fun, kids had fun read more

Overall great idea, but they need to work on how they communicate with Kids aspect- the staff showed how tired they were. -The older manager lady was moving the cow, screaming at it saying how she hates her, the cow deserves to be penned and is a bad animal. To boot, she came over to us at the pony party to tell the staff how awful the cow was, that she tries to kill her and how kids shouldn't even like her. - though I understand safety is key, scaring the children into sitting still at the pony party because they will "run off with you if you make a noise" is excessive. I have ponies and horses, if they can't be around children, they shouldn't be doing that role. - we were trying to take a group photo at the end and the staff kept telling us our time was up and time to leave. - great concept, but I'll reconsider before having a party here unless I know their staff has improved. read more

Nostalgia blast. My elementary school went here, and I went to the summer camp that used to be there. I had an excellent guide, can't remember his name, but he was a little overweight if that helps. Ask for him! Got to hold a chicken and a baby goat and take some silly pictures on an old tractor and whatnot Learned about horses, goats, pigs, and donkeys, rabbits, etc. Nice lake view. The farm is tucked behind homes and an alpaca farm off Tarpon Springs highway. Upon arrival, you are matched with a guide who loves animals and sharing their knowledge with visitors. The farm is overlooking a beautiful lake and the animals are respected and loved. We brought our two year old who loves animals and enjoyed the opportunity to interact with every animal. Prestan was a great guide and clearly loved the animals. He never forced any animal into his arms, instead respecting their needs and temperament. He was full of knowledge and loved answering questions. Overall the experience is great but two things were frustrating. The first thing was the pony ride. My two year old loves horses and wanted to ride a second time. Prestan, our guide, was okay with it but said we need to make sure it is okay. There were no other groups waiting so I figured it would be okay. The girl tending the ponies told us we would have to pay three dollars for a second ride. When I heard that I was irritated because we paid a lot of money to be there. I could understand if there were other tour groups waiting but one more ride would not have been a big deal. Charging extra is ridiculous. My second complaint is that it felt like were on a factory line. The kids are expected to be contained with the group which is difficult with toddlers. I would recommend this place but be aware of that you are thrown into groups already touring and time with animals is limited. read more

This was my letter of resignation after working only 4 days at this place. I looked in the procedure book, and did not find any contact emails for management, so I am contacting you via website. I will not be coming back to work at the farm. The farm is such a negative, hateful, harrassing, hostile work environment, it's no wonder that hardly anyone stays over a month there. I have never encountered such poor management and people skills in my life. In only 4 days of working there, I've witnessed Sandy cussing out employees and treating everyone with less respect than a dog. This is illegal behavior, and the company needs to get rid of her so they can keep some people out there. With the extra low pay, people's sense of self worth is already at an all time low. Not to mention, the horse walkers work for 4 or more hours out in the heat, and nobody ever comes to give them a bathroom or water break! The owner either doesn't know what's going on out there, or doesn't care. It's not only Sandy - Michelle is very disrepectful also. When I was introduced at my interview, she didn't even LOOK at me when I said hello, just mumbled hello, then sat with her back to me during the interview. Very rude and unprofessional. She yelled , "Are you deaf?" at an employee who politely asked her to repeat a question yesterday. Again, this is harrassment, and illegal in the workplace. The only employee in management there that is considerate and kind is Elizabeth. She is helpful, and I had nothing but positivity from her. The goat you call "Mikey" is living in inhumane, cruel conditions. He is isolated from the rest of the animals in a tiny little dog pen! His shelter is a dog house that is too small for him to get into! I was told, "He's just a breeder goat." He still deserves better treatment than that! I will be contacting the SPCA about his living conditions, so you might want to rectify it pretty quickly. There are some pretty hefty fines for animal abuse, especially at an animal farm. The other goat pen is also way too small for all of those animals. I feel sorry for the poor young lady, Ally, who got her ass reemed yesterday by Sandy for getting the tractor stuck. She'd only driven a tractor once before, it wasn't her fault. Things like this do happen, and there's no need to drive her morale all the way into the ground with Sandy's bullying behavior. Took my 1.5 year old. He really liked it but it's a long tour so if you have little ones take a stroller! Take lots of anti bacterial wipes. The farm is nice and well kept but my only concern/complaint is for the poor cow that gets "milked" 1000 times a day. Her poor utters were raw and she would flinch every time someone touched her. I refused to "milk" her. I voiced my opinion and even our tour guide said they need to get another cow to give her a break and that her utters have been in worse condition. read more

A great family activity. Visited old McMickey's farm with my two year old and wife on a whim family day and had a blast! You get to go around to pet chickens, cows, rice a pony, and bunnies. If the tour guides hadn't been so kind and knowledgable, the review would have a lot less stars. The farm itself was a lot of fun for our kids, but don't expect decent customer service, or even to be treated like a human being, by the woman who works the front desk. She didn't even greet us when we got to the window, as she was on the phone about a birthday party. She would greatly benefit from some customer service training, although I doubt she would humble herself enough to take it. She didn't even acknowledge our presence for at least ten minutes and then was rude to us the entire transaction. She needs to be trained or replaced for the success of this business--she's the face of the company. read more
