This is one of the first places you'll come across in Montana if traveling East in I-90 (or one of the last Montana places you'll see if traveling West). I've stopped by here a few times in recent years, and am usually happy with my meal. I highly recommend the Montana Bar over the next closest option (the overpriced silver coins tourist trap). The pricing at the Montana Bar is fair, and the only times I've been disappointed are when they are understaffed and unable to offer their full menu. My favorites are their steak and seafood offerings, so it is unfortunate when these items are not available. The staff is always friendly and attentive to customer needs and requests. On one visit, the kitchen staff prepared the wrong side item. As the server brought me my meal, they apologized for the error and told me that they are already preparing the side that I ordered. They served me two side dishes with my meal this trip. read more

We stopped in tonight on our way home from Idaho, and we are happy we did, the waitress were friendly the restaurant was clean and welcoming.. We were greeted and sat down quickly, I ordered the French dip which came with grilled mushrooms and onion, and I got the side salad. my husband got the fish and chips with coleslaw !! My salad came out quickly, it was fresh simple and delicious !! About 5 or so minutes after eating my salad our food came !! The auju was perfect, hot and flavorful and best of all NOT salty at all !! My sandwich was piled HIGH with roast beef, and perfectly grilled and juicy fresh mushrooms and onions !! It was a great sandwich !! My husband loved his fish n chips, the fish was 3 nice big chunks of perfectly battered cod, great fries and I'm picky about coleslaw and it was also perfect !! We had leftovers !! Everything was delicious, the restaurant was clean and relaxing, the staff were prompt and friendly !! We live in Superior about 35 mins away and we will go there when we want to have a nice meal and not drive to Missoula :) !! Saw this business advertised on a billboard along 90 and knew I didn't have time to make it to Couer d'Alene before restaurants closing so I stopped here. Glad I did. I can't remember having a better steak. The ribeye was fantastic! Salad cold and crisp and the loaded baked potato decadent. Even the veggies were on point with the broccoli, cauliflower and baby carrots al dente and tasty. I was surprised to be honest to find this quality food not far off the beaten path. Easy off and on to 90. The atmosphere is friendly and the service good. It was truly a Montana steakhouse experience and quite frankly one of the highpoints of a Montana vacation. I eat steaks frequently in the Seattle area. The ribeye was comparable to what I have had at the Capital Grille and Daniel's Broiler. Sorry I didn't take a photo. I was hungry. This was the meal I had circled for our Montana getaway. Yet it wound up being totally not what my preconceived notions were--judging by the previous reviews/pictures/etc. It's kind of a run down place. But that wasn't disappointing, because I do love me some dive bar action. Food was a very weak offering compared to their menu descriptions. They're really trying to emulate midwestern supper clubs, with an emphasis on quality steaks, and upscale seafood options. Nothing wrong with that, but our meals were just not the quality they perceive themselves to be. My daughter's Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo was plated well, but the overall flavor was something you might get at a hospital cafeteria. The NY Strip I treated myself to was tough, certainly not 'prime' aged, and darned well not worth the $34 I dropped for it. What could I do? Complain? Ask for a different one that would have been of similar quality? I guess the best I can do is recommend people stick to the pub food basics here. I hate to be harsh because all the folks in there were great, and they pour a heckuva double shot, but my wallet's a little sore after the experience, and I just hate it when expensive dining out meals are on par with my own amateurish attempts at cooking... read more

We arrived late on a Sunday night after a long family road trip. All I wanted was a good steak and a glass of red wine to go with it. Tiny little town off the highway, but don't let that put you off. Fun Montana bar vibe, big front porch, and very warm, friendly service. Out of some things, but steak was on the menu and it was a very generous portion grilled exactly to my liking, with loaded potato and salad. We tried the NY and the Wagyu - so good! Way more than we could eat. The Hawaiian pizza looked freshly made and my kiddo said it was delicious. Limited beverages, but had a Barefoot cab and IPA that did just fine with the meal and server even found hot tea and lemon for my little one with a sore throat. Our bill for three excellent steak dinners, a whole pizza and salads, sides, drinks for a family of five? $139. Definitely will return and highly recommend. Also, clean enough restrooms, darts and a few casino games to keep everyone busy while I relaxed and finished my wine. Turned a potentially crabby late night into a happy mom with a well-fed family. We attended a Chamber of Commerce meeting in the new dining pavilion. Our server was Desiree'. Everything was wonderful. We ordered the halibut, a loaded baked potato and the chicken piccatta. It was all delicious. The dessert menu is mouthwatering, every choice is the right choice. read more

This is truly a destination restaraunt! We went there on a Friday night with many seafood and steak specials on the menu. The oysters, lobster, crab legs and steaks were outstanding! We even got to try a plate of bacon wrapped scallops the owner and staff created and added to the nights menu. They were awesome! We tried this out tonight as it was recommended, however we were disappointed. The service was some of the worst we've had. I ordered a steak and king crab. The entire meal was cold, even the baked potato the butter and cheese didn't melt. The steak was cold when it arrived. The crab was one tiny leg. The Bloody Mary was good though. There was someone in my work tonight who had grown up in western Montana. Talking with him about Montana made me remember a great vacation my wife and I took probably 10 years ago, where flew into Spokane we drove from Spokane to Glacier NP. Around dinner time we pulled off I-90 and found Old Montana Bar and Grill. As a testament to it's quality I still remember it fondly 10 years later. The decor inside is great with lots of stuffed animals, wood and old time atmosphere. We had a great steak dinner with potatoes at a fair price. The help staff was nice, we had a nice conversation with the bartender. This place could be the inspiration for a song Hank Williams Jr did "Montana Cafe". Everything about it screams Montana, old west, comfort and familiarity. The best thing about the place was Griz. He was a gentle black lab who had the run of the place. Sweetest dog ever. We were so lucky to find this place, we made a point of stopping and eating here again on our drive back to Spokane. I plan on retiring back east in couple years, just remembering this place makes me want to see Montana and the great wild west one more time before I escape the He** that is California. read more

While traveling through Northwest Montana along Hwy 90, I came across a nice Lil Bar and Grill. The town of Saltese is only 15 people, but The "Old Montana Bar and Grill" is great. The decor are many different animal mounts hunted by the owner. Along one wall are several gaming machines (Poker&Keno). I ordered Montana Burger. Wow!, no doubt the best burger I've had. It came with fries. It was delicious. The Bartender /Waitress/girl friday, Cindy was delightful to chat with. She knew a lot about the Bar and Grill. She told us all about the mounts and a little about the owner. Being an outdoorsman I just salivated going into The Montana Bar and Grill. It's just a wide spot in the road and you could miss it. Great place to grab a bite and have a drink! Ed's broasted chicken is amazing! (I recommend the Jo's) If your in the mood for pizza they have the best pizza in the west end! Many different toppings! The house made special margaritas are a little slice of Mexico in Montana! Did I forget to mention the soft serve ice cream? Don't pass it up or you'll be sorry! I will simply begin my stating, "this is a very neat Bar!" As is the norm with me, at least in places like this, I visit them during the NON-TOURIST seasons. Such experiences are simply better (and more fun) that way. The "atmosphere" is wonderful, with the staff (and even surrounding patrons) very pleasant. The beer selection is precisely what one could expect in the middle of a small town, and in a serious mountain pass. In fact, they surpassed my expectations with a fine selection of domestic brews. The food is very honest, and true to the surroundings. I chose the "Montana Burger," which lived-up to its name. The service was outstanding. In fact, I can even state that I was almost treated like a celebrity! Actually, on second thought, this crowd would not have treated a "celebrity" as well as I was treated. This crowd is basically "real people," and they will treat you as such! I was IMPRESSED! On a side note, the Bar's interior is almost literally covered with various artifacts from the Town's very rich history. In fact, it was much like a museum.
