On one of our many day tripping adventures, Noel, Tony and I enjoyed going to this lovely park. It is absolutely GORGEOUS and FREE to enjoy. There are picnic tables available for your use and some playground equipment for the little ones in your group to enjoy. The Old Mulkey Meetinghouse came about from the religious movement led by Phillip and Ann Mulkey in the late 1790s. They had chosen to guide a small band of Baptist Pilgrims from the Carolinas to Kentucky. In 1804 work began on the large but crudely made lot structure. It was built in the unique shape of a cross with 12 corners and 3 doors. The corners represent the 12 apostles of Jesus or the 12 tribes of Israel. The 3 doors represent the Holy Trinity. Church was abandoned in 1910. Became a park in 1931. Daniel Boone's sister, Hannah is buried here. read more

The Old Mulkey Meetinghouse is the oldest freestanding church meeting house in the commonwealth of Kentucky. The area where it's located has been turned into a state historic site. As you walk into the meetinghouse, the lights will come on and the audio will start to play, telling about the history of the place. Looking around at the smooth old pews and high ceilings, you can just picture families there worshiping the Lord back in the old days. The cemetery just outside the meeting house is a moving and interesting stroll as many of the graves are those of fallen soldiers from the Revolutionary War. There is a short trail that leads off from the back of the cemetery into the woods but we didn't go on it. We did see a deer standing hidden in the trees who looked at us calmly as she was eating. It's a pretty small landmark so we didn't stay long, but it was a very worthwhile stop. Oh also, there is a very nice little gift shop and welcome center right before you get to the meetinghouse. Highly recommend a stop there as the couple running it are very personable and knowledgeable about the site. read more

Awesome place to hang out with friends. There's a church, and a picnic area, great place to sit and enjoy nature. Quiet and tranquil. Nice place to write a book or take pics with family. read more
